The City Barge
My and my partners parents met for the first time here. Was the perfect place! Watch out the the high tide...
I had fish and Chips here and it was fabulous. The fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was lovely and crispy. The chips to be honest were probably the best chips i've ever eaten in my life. The waitresses were attentive and friendly. Would definitely eat here again. It was very busy so very noisy
The staff are always welcoming and attentive and the menu really unusual. The food is never a disappointment.
This is the best pub on Strand on the Green. It has a lovely buzz, great river views, lovely food and good, friendly service.
My family and I are regular visitors of the City Barge and it always the first place we take friends/family when they come to see us. We love the river location, the airy and spacious feel, the food is always delicious and the staff friendly and charming. Thank you.
Food was OK the glass noodle starter with lime and coriander was very tasty, but the softshell crab 'burger' was disappointing there are better ways to serve softshell crab (which I love) , in a bun is not one of them. However what really put me off on entering the restaurant was the smell , old deep frying oil smell?
I was dining with a friend from Canada
Always great atmosphere and service - very friendly pub with a fab menu.
Very busy - was a hot Bank Holiday but most people were outside and we had table in. Food took a while to come but otherwise service was attentive, didn't have to wait ages when asked for the bill.
Toilets not particulalry clean, evidence maybe of the number of kids around - not all supervised.
Food was very nice, the menu has a few non standard pub grub dishes - but a bit more of a description on the menu as to what they actually are would help.
Great location and space but food was disappointing. Service was ok
Unique pub by the Thames, nice layout with lots of books and crannies and lovely staff serving us. The food was lovely (roasties a bit dry for me) and fantastic wine list. Definitely recommended for a lazy sunny weekend drink or meal
Slow service. Way too much smoke coming from kitchen they should have open the windows or doors! Sticky toffee pudding sauce was separated and oily and not sticky. Have loved this place before but on this occasion it was just ok.
Wonderful restaurant great staff .
We’re a bit slow getting my bill but overall a great meal & evening
Haddock and chips and the cod chowder good. Smoked trout ok.
The servers should have dedicated sections. No one knew what was going on and we didn’t feel well looked after. It was hectic and our bill had several mistakes on it. We didn’t see the same face twice.
Food was excellent though
Best Sunday Lunch in London
The restaurant was extremely noisy as they were showing the rugby in the bar area. We found the service to be very slow and disjointed throughout. The restaurant also used an app for diners with allergies, so the staff were unable to say what was present in the food. The app did not list our friend’s allergy which is quite common. It also didn’t acknowledge the presence of dairy in cheese.
How do they do it? We've never had a bad meal at the City Barge and it's always a good time. Don't miss the fish and chips
We had a perfect table, excellent service and good atmosphere without being too noisy. However, my lamb was so tough I could only eat a bit of it. Really, really tough to the point of being inedible. Smoked salmon starter was perfect and my guests enjoyed the soup and the pork.
All was excellent until a very noisy drill was used and we couldn’t hear each other speak. I asked them to wait until we were finished. They stopped work immediately.
Just a lovely, warm atmosphere and all the waiters were very helpful and friendly. Good for allegies too.
Lovely riverside pub, serves good quality food and good range of wines and beers - not the cheapest, but good value for the quality of food and service. It also has associations with the Beatles, a scene in HELP was filmed in the immediate vicinity and a bit inside.
Disappointedly the service has gone down. Had to wait for drinks for ages, were served with ice, while asking without, were offered to exchange however remembering it took them so long to bring these two glasses, didn’t want to waste more time. On top of everything, were charged extra cover. Unfortunately, we realised it after we left, while checking the bill and the prices, and didn’t bother coming back. Let’s consider it as a good-will waiver, as we are not going to come back there any more. Very sad, as we have been regulars there for last 3,5 years.
Great Sunday lunch. Highly recommended if you are looking for a riverside friendly neighbourhood.
Very nice environment and food. Slightly disappointed for not finding our booking on their system
Had an excellent evening - served by Daisy who was as knowledgeable about the wines as she was about the food. We all felt the meals we had were excellent. It was a quieter than usual night and that worked well for us too.
Very nice place with great food. Amazing spot near the river
Nice venue. Had the beef roast dinner. Veg was amazing but the beef was dry. Sticky toffee pudding was fab!
We love this place. The food was probably even better this time. I had fish and sag aloo and it was delicious. Staff are lovely. They were very busy with a table of 25, but in our eyes this added to the atmosphere.
One of our favourite places in Chiswick.
Just need to do expresso martinis now!
Very slow service, it took over an hour for the cheque to arrive. The atmosphere is also terrible; there were children crawling on the floor and screaming. The food wasn't special and overpriced for what it. I would never recommend dining here.
Great location, very good food. Cosy, warm and modern atmosphere. My favourite in the neighbourhood.
Was looking forward to my booking here as I've been trying Sunday lunch all over London trying to find the best. The food here is good. The starters nice, the sunday roast was a bit hit on miss on the meat side. My roast beef was lovely, one other roast lamb was lovely and then 2 others had not so nice versions of both where the meat was nearly all fat and was overcooked. The service was decent, the comfort though was very poor. the seats are super low and uncomfortable chairs. and the heat... we were right by the entrance and it was like being in a sauna the heat made it too uncomfortable for us all. I asked about it and the servers said the heat was not on which was strange as you could feel it was definitely on. we kept hoping more people would open and close the door so we could get a small bit of relief from the heat. i would still recommend as i'm sure there are parts of the pub that are more comfortable and the food can be improved. Sunday lunch with drinks for 6 people was £320
Excellent duck. Didn’t care for shrapnel on the fumble.
Fabulous on a sunny day when you can grab one of the tables outside (if you are quick) and wile away the afternoon watching the river and eating great food. This was our first time there in the evening. Service was a bit slow and we were advised there had been a bit of a run on the kitchen (even though the place was not full). The truffle mushroom soup was delicious but was a little tepid when it arrived. The steak and the fish and chips were excellent. Thick cut chips were crispy and fluffy - just how I like them. Desserts all round were scoffed. We will go back.
Nice pub fayre at reasonable prices. Decor a bit tired but wholesome tasty portions a d wide selection on menu.
The food was great drinks service rather slow although they did apologise we may have been overlooked we both had the roast beef which was superb I also had the Japanese salmon again excellent I would reccomend for a lunch or an evening meal would imagine it's a great spot in the summer months
The service was sporadic at best the WINE was the worst bit. Tried loads of different ones before settling on a pretty nasty s African Chardonnay. Everything tasted cheap and nasty. Why doesn’t a pub like that realise it needs to serve decent good value wine. Loads of wine drinkers. It’s Chiswick!!
I booked a last minute lunch on New Year's Day at the City Barge, and although their computer systems were down when we arrived, they quickly organised seating and menus. Service was prompt and staff were friendly and fun. We ordered the lamb and duck roasts and the pan fried cod. The roasts were huge and delicious, the lamb was perfectly cooked and the fresh mint was a lovely touch. There was plenty of roasted veg and gravy and a ginormous yorkshire pudding. The duck was succulent and tasty and the cod was very flavoursome. I would definitely recommend eating here and plan to come again soon. Sadly we had no room for desserts but they certainly looked tempting...
Very good evening dinner before a walk around Kew Gardens
Really pleasantly surprised and impressed: very pleasant experience coupled with great food 🥘
