went for Sunday lunch with friends, first time here on a Sunday - we arrived just about on time but were told we had to wait 10 minutes for our table even though we could see 2 free. Felt like it wasn't a good start, but once we were seated we were very happy with the food and the service.
We had lamb, chicken and pork in our party, and all were very nice. Roasties felt like they were "old" potatoes cooked a few times, but were edible (for most of us) Oh and forgot the apple sauce on the pork; delivered when not much left! We asked for extra gravy but as the pots were SO small we had to ask a few times for more. They place was busy and I can imagine it was hectic for the staff but they coped really well and we felt did a great job! Considering it was quite busy we did not feel rushed at all and were able to relax after our food with coffee and finishing wine before we felt able to move after such a lovely Sunday roast and beautiful dessert! Will definitely come back for Sunday dinner.
City Barge always delivers. Helpful and efficient staff. Food excellent. Another great time out. Thank you!
Fabulous team looked after us, nothing was too much trouble. Sunday roast was excellent, as good as home made. Nice, buzzy atmosphere but relaxed at the same time. Prices reasonable. Good wine list.
A pleasant lunchtime gathering, we were especially pleased with the service. Food was ok but a bit pricey for the quality.
I’ve always enjoyed dinner at the City Barge, the atmosphere, wine and quality of the food are a delight. The setting in summer by the river is wonderful too.
However, I tried the spinach cannelloni this time and it was rather greasy and cheesy with too much spinach. Very unlike the usual standard of food. My meat eating friends all enjoyed their meals though.
Bring back the pumpkin ravioli!
Very good food with great sauces, couldn't fault it in any way
Best chips ever!!
I was very happy with our experience the food was very good and the staff were very helpful and frendley overall we enjoyed our visit.
We have been several times to the City Barge now - great location and ambience - always very good food and sometimes excellent (as this time) - service can be the part that can let them down so an area to focus on and ensure staff trained.
But overall one of our favourites in the area and we will return.
Love this place so nice to have an independent pub with such a wonderful setting and delicious food!
We normally go for a drink to this pub in the summer and they work well with crowds. But we went for dinner on a quiet evening and it so long to order. We ended up going to bar to order drinks, 20 mins later still no drinks. 35 mins later still no drinks and they hadn’t taken our order yet. We ended up leaving and headed to a fullers pub which was 100% better.
We have loved the City Barge in the past. Location is great. On this occasion the food (Sunday roast) was disappointing for the price but the wine was excellent, as was the service. We discussed our issues with the manager on duty who was very helpful and understanding. Everywhere has off days. We will go back and we definitely felt our feedback was listened to.
Great location. intelligent menu. great staff. View of the river. Good base for visiting Kew
What a find, right along the Thames near Kew! The food was fantastic and the ambience was perfect.
A great riverside pub with a surprisingly funky atmosphere that manages to be a good hang out for both younger and not-so-young types. The coolest place in W4.
Excellent food, and a fantastic Riverside location.
Fabulous surrounding, excellent Sunday roast and good value. Excellent Malbec and Robert, the manager runs an excellent, family orientated pub with gorgeous views of the River Thames. The best pub in West London definitely.
Had Sunday roast with family members - the food and beer was very good but as it is family friendly it can get very noisy with so many children around. That ruined it a bit for us as it is a lovely pub on the waterfront so we expected it to be more relaxing. As it is such a spacious pub, a suggestion would be that they could have dedicated quiet areas for those without children.
The food was excellent, as ever, the service very poor. However, when things go wrong it’s about how they’re put right & this was done with considerable aplomb. More than happy to keep visiting.
Service really needs to improve. I have visited three times over summer, always on a Sunday night and consistently found the the staff to be tired and disinterested. I appreciate that they might have had a long day so management really should consider a new team for that shift. Food sits under heat lamps whilst the staff chat or argue with chefs about what’s for their dinner. Mostly they are just MIA when you need them.
Cool place. Great staff, food and beer. Good for large or small groups.
Restaurant was unusually quiet. Four of us enjoyed a variety of meals from the menu - all beautifully cooked and presented. I usually order off piste and I was graciously accommodated.
We did have a small wait for cheese course but it wasn't too much of a problem and the lovely staff were very apologetic and generously comped it.
We have had many good meals here and without a doubt will do so again.
Food was rather disappointing. Steak over cooked and coffee was horrific. Used to be a lot better
Excellent food but no atmosphere in the restaurant. Not a good wine list as it was mostly just French wines. How about more New World red wine? Service was good.
Delicious food, slightly unusual and all very tasty. A good vegetarian selection. Attentive, knowledgeable staff who explained menu carefully. Good size portions and good coffee
Whenever we have friends to stay we take them out for dinner at the City Barge. Australian visitors love the decor and atmosphere. I always enjoy the food but the waiting staff seem a bit stretched at times. However they are friendly and engaging. My only complaint relates to the noise level. For example, when you book a table for dinner you don’t expect to have to shout above a quiz master with a microphone .
Roast Sunday lunches are very good, we all had the roast chicken as this is excellent.
Good Food but had too wait almost and hour for it! This spoiled the experience as we ended up eating far too late.
The food is always of a very good standard and the service always very good and friendly service. It also was lovely and cool inside while it was baking outside
I love the City Barge as a pub. But this restaurant eating experience was very disappointing. The food was ok - nothing to write home about and, given that, expensive. The service was shocking - the waiter was nice enough, but we ordered around 8 pm and didn't get our main course until 10 pm... on a night when there was only a handful of people eating. No one kept us informed about what was going on, nor apologised when the food eventually arrived. I'll still go to the pub I love for a drink, but am unlikely to return again or recommend it to others to eat.
Great food great service, very child friendly, nice views of the Thames
Always good never disappointing.
Happy to have soft shell crab burger back in the menu.
A little loud though, but great place!
Good ambiance but was spoilt by our grumpy waitress and so-so food. Wouldn’t hurry back for a meal but good for a drink by the river.
I suspect my feelings about the place are tainted by the booking experience. I phoned to book a table and asked for an outside table by the river. The girl I spoke to said ‘she would see what she could do’ in a positive tone. However when we arrived we were shown to an inside table and told the outside seats are first come first served. If I had known that I would have eaten elsewhere. The food was good but not outstanding. The service was on the slow side but friendly. I’m not desperate to return. Shame really because it’s almost there.
The setting is fantastic but the continuous smoking around the food outside and the ‘average’ food make it less of a destination and more of just a way to enjoy a sunny afternoon drink!
Food great, location exquisite, free parking and service tip top until all the waiters seemed to go home at 10 leaving me sitting there for 30 minutes trying to pay the bill. Very odd!
I have been visiting City Barge for a few years and whilst the food is consistently good, unfortunately the service has got slower and slower. We sat down at 8.50pm on Friday night. 4 of us ordered mains only - close to 10.30 before we received our food . Very frustrating !
Great location, excellent food and value for money and really warm, friendly staff! Would definitely go back :)
It was wonderful to have delicious brunch food in a riverside view table outside! I recommend!
Had a lovely lunch the food was fantastic and the service was second to none! Friendly efficient waiting staff who could not have been more helpful!
