We went to the Clove Club for a lazy Saturday lunch. Atmosphere is excellent and food was wonderful. However two issues put us off. First, the service was just only very fair and definitely not up to the standard of a michelin star restaurant: we had to ask twice for almost everything!! No bread given, no serviette provided after the first one was soiled, white wine left outside on the table on a hot day, waitress did not know where the wine was from and told New Zealand instead of USA, etc. Importantly, even the food was excellent, there was a piece of "stone" in the lentils and my friend almost broke a tooth. We told the waitress and, that was it!! Hardly any apologies or anything else. Again, definitely not up to michelin star. I am not sure whether I will go back. Best strawberry tart I ever had for dessert though.
The good here just gets better and better. Recommended.
I like the informal nature and open plan of the restaurant. The service was excellent, the right amount of friendly without overbearing. Food came quickly and the surprising courses were presented with the right amount of drama and importance, whilst still being gorgeous and easy to eat. If you love your food you'll love this place!
Very much lived up to expectations, having been recommended the Clove Club by a couple of my foodie friends. Some really creative and imaginative dishes served in a really buzzy atomosphere. Would definitely recommend!
A place to be followed. Some extraordinary dishes (lamb or ray) others to be clearly improved (the one with the ham, for example). The dining room is too noisy for a long diner and the reception not friendly at all. Wine service to be improved also... But, in my opinion , it has the conditions to become one of the must in London
it was an unplanned night out for us and clove club definitely turned into the highlight of the evening right from the start. Two michelin star standard food that is actually not too fussy. Generally speaking fish dishes were stronger than meat dishes but everything was delicious! Will return many many times
Good food, really expensive and better food can be had for at least £50 a head less.
I rate this restaurant as one of londons best.
Great innovative food in a relaxed environment, friendly and proffesional staff, interesting wine list and good value for money. Fit for any occasion its a must if you haven't been And a must if you have.
We'd read so much about this place and were actually quite disappointed. The food on the whole was good but if they hadn't served bread we would all have left hungry - the portions were tiny and really underwhelming.
I cannot understand the negative reviews -- obviously not from people who love food. Clove Club uses exceptional ingredients, and specializes in imaginative and spot on presentation and combinations, and flawless service. We had, including "pre" and "post" offerings, 16 courses, and without exception, each was spectacular.
Came in at 6:45, left at 9:45. Great food, but expect to wait for it!
We were greeted by friendly and helpful staff and this ethos continued throughout our visit. Because we went for lunch, we chose the three course menu which also came with 3 different 'snacks' to start. Each dish was served with a simple but helpful explanation and the whole meal was very good value indeed. We will go back for dinner to experience the full tasting menu.
Wonderfully creative food. Relaxed atmosphere while remaining always professional. Staff extremely competent and wine list short but interesting. What more would you want from a restaurant?
The cuisine at The Clove Club is delicate, refined and tasteful. The English products are discretely embellished by a Japanese touch. The service is casual and professional. We spent a really pleasant gastronomic time at The Clove Club.
I have had tried a lot of tasting menu around some of the best restaurant around London, and the Clove Club definitely is one of the better one I have tried. Dishes are innovative yet elegant. Must try!
Our fourth visit to the Clove Club and the meal was back up to the high standard we found in our first 2 visits - In fact even better. Really innovative cooking and enthusiastic service. Thoroughly recommended!
My experience at The Clove Club, known as one of the hottest places in London right now, has convinced me that their reputation is more than deserved. Wonderful cuisine and lovely staff.
This was my second visit, and it was even better than the first, exceptional in every way.
another 'casual' tasting menu concept from a younger chef. this means there they have dropped the ball completely on service and the food is quite lazy (or as they would say modern and minimal). the flavors are quite bland at times and the food product is of no great quality. forget about technique here; the sauces are very weak. the best thing i was served was the bread and butter. at 95 quid a head i am not sure what you are paying for. the food is ok at best and although advertised as an extended menu, is certainly not enough food to satisfy even the lightest eater's hunger. there is no value here. the ambiance is also quite annoying; the only background music is the buzzing of kitchen appliances from the open kitchen at the back of the room. overall it is confusing why this place has any accolades. at this price point you have your pick of pretty much any restaurant in london. for instance the carte blanche at hedone is miles ahead of the food here, and costs the same price.
I took my husband here for his birrhday, and now he wants to come back every weekend. The courses were incredibly unique and delicious, the wine was phenomenal, and the service was unparalleled to anywhere else. It was fantastic. Couldn't be happier with our experience and will definitely be coming again and again.
Not the cheapest but the food here is excellent. I will come here again.
I have been to The Clove Club 3 times now. Twice 'pre-michelin star' and once after them winning a star. Brilliant restaurant and one of the best meals I have had in a long time. Tasting menu well worth the money and a well-stocked wine cellar helps wash it all down. Staff very good fun and its a nice touch having some courses delivered by the chefs. Will I be back? yes, definitely.
Service was very good indeed. Never felt rushed, food came at good pace, staff sufficient in number and very attentive.
Venue was pleasant but nothing special about decor.
In terms of the food, flavour combinations and textures were innovative but menu is weak in my opinion. The tasting menus, understandably small portions, had too many cheese dishes and desserts, so not substantial enough. Within the menu, mains were all fish/seafood, no meat.
Interesting tasting menu with a few highlights but overall it lacked the cohesion and wow factor that we have enjoyed with tasting menus elsewhere. Very friendly, professional staff and a lovely place - understated decor, very Shoreditch - so we had a good time but it is a little overpriced and the meal just didn't quite hang together for me. Too many fish dishes maybe and the puddings were a bit unwieldy and lacking in contrast. We had the wine pairing and were looked after by a very competent sommelier which added somewhat to the experience. Unfortunately his time was soon taken up by a large party at the next table and we were quite neglected for the second half of the meal. £55 each for the tasting menu with an additional £12 for the raw scallops and truffles (one of the highlights so glad we ordered it but slightly resented the additional cost!) and £45 each for the wine. They also have about three a la carte choices which looked good.
We had another great meal, this time for the lunch menu. Their ideas are so creative and I will be back again soon.
Clove club is a nice venue with welcoming staff. The food was good but not amazing , the portions are also very small leaving my wife and myself hungry after having the 5 course lunch menue.
Daniel and his team worked tirelessly to deliver the most wonderful and relaxed evening where every dish exceeded our expectations.
Knowledgeable, friendly and attentive staff but not intrusive.
Chose the 9 course tasting menu with highlights being the pork belly, blood orange dessert, scallops with peri gold truffle, chicken feet and mackerel
Waiter and sommelier made good recommendations on what wine without trying to push the expensive wines on the list.
Relaxed ambience - would not recommend for fussy eaters. This is an experiential gastronomy dining. Similar to Viajante with Nuno Mendes which is also very good.
I have been to Clove Club once before (as well as their original pop up above the 10 Bells twice). I have been a big fan in the past, but this time was rather disappointing. The food was good, but not great (certainly not michellin quality). And the service was choppy (exceptionally long stretches between courses and over 30 minutes delayed to be seated). Very disappointing, particularly when bringing friends from out of town. Hope it was a blip.
The best dinner evening on our stay in London this weekend!
Food is brilliant, thoughtful and well presented. There's balance and invention.
Wine list is very clever - some unexpected picks mostly from France.
Service is attentious and erudict.
Isaac is a great cook.
The guys at Clove club managed to create an amazing experience. We had the 9 course menu, which was delicious, well balanced and not too much food.
Every dish was better than the other, showing the flare of genius of the young chefs.
The ability to see the kitchen in operation was an added bonus!
We have been there twice now and they still have that great relaxed atmosphere at the same time as they have very delicious food. It has a "Nordic" touch and some of the dishes remind me a bit of other great Nordic restaurants like Noma or Maaemo. We will be back!
- I had a really nice meal. And one of the tasting menu options (the mackerel) was one of the best things I have eaten.
- Vegetarian was overall very good
- The non-alcoholic drink we tried (fermented lime/grape juice) was truly stunning!
- Wonderful service, very attentive and genuine. They did a wonderful job of trying to cater for food allergies.
- One of the vegetarian mains was quite boring (the parsnip and chestnut) and not very balanced.
- Would have preferred not having two deserts, it was a bit too much. (although both very good!)
- The coffee was the worst coffee I have ever had. Truly horrible (and they charged 4 pounds for it).
Overall the dining experience was great. Unfortunately, ending with the horrible coffee left me a bit dissatisfied, which really is not a fair reflection of the fantastic meal I had.
I took my wife here as a surprise celebration and was not disappointed. The five course menu was amazing while the service was so warm and attentive. Been able to view the chef's in action from your table was excellent. Would definitely recommend.
Great, inventive cuisine served by friendly staff (or friendly chefs). Super wine selection and a knowledgeable and friendly sommelier who is happy to chat about the wines and why he has selected them. Although a meal at this level is (by necessity) expensive, the generosity shown here makes the perceived value outstanding.
This restaurant is best for those who don't have a myriad dislikes / aversions - it functions best when you just let them do their thing.
I'll keep this brief as I don't think I need to write much. At The Clove Club we had quite simply the best degustation menu we have ever had the fortune to eat. The whole menu was very well thought out and perfectly balanced. The courses were well proportioned so that we left the table feeling full, but not bloated. The food itself was spectacular. For me, the raw scallop with truffle and the tarte tatin were stand-outs, although everything on the table was superb. I'd also like to say that the bread - baked in house - was some of the best I've ever had. We also thought that the price was very reasonable.
We had the tasting menu for lunch, and wow, what a menu it was! We have eaten at some serious restaurants this year and The Clove Club is up there with the best. My wife is pregnant and her dietary needs were more than met, changing courses and cooking dishes differently where necessary, but never leaving her experience any less delicious than mine. Nothing was too much trouble. We can't wait to come back!
Another really excellent evening. I love the atmosphere - friendly, clubby, fantastic visually and atmospherically as you pass through the great bar and open kitchen into the small restaurant. Isaac a strong and consistent presence. Extraordinary inventiveness in the cooking in a really well balanced menu. Favourite dish of the ten that evening, was the raw scallops with hazlenut and a truffle concentrate (range of textures, freshness and intensity). In the past French beans with squid and anchovy was highly memorable. Very well chosen wine list. Top notch service. Very cool place. I will keep coming back. Many thanks!
After reading the largely positive reviews we were wary of the odd negative comment in terms of the austere environment and value. On the contrary, both the bar beforehand and the dining space were very much what we love, an incredibly warm environment not least generated from the staff. The food was first class, as was the service - the wine pairing menu in particular was a real hit. It's not cheap, but I would willingly pay when I see the effort, care and attention in front of my eyes.
