Although sat outside, I wasn't impressed that fellow diners were allowed to smoke at their table, there should be a designated area. The food was OK but great effort made to make a nice atmosphere
Really nice fresh food, good size portions. Friendly staff.
A very busy evening for the restaurant, but they coped well. Staff were friendly and helpful. The food arrived quickly after we had ordered and was very good.
Food was lovely, beautiful garden. Staff when we first arrived were attentive and friendly, shift change by the time we left and staff seemed very young and not very bothered with providing a decent service.
Exceptional food and service. Attentive, friendly staff and the atmosphere out on the terrace was great. Good selection of food and drink and we had a lovely evening with our friends. Would highly recommend to all our family and friends.
Lovely Saturday lunch. The staff were great and the food delicious
We stood at the entrance for at least 5 mins before anyone came to seat us. Drinks were ordered and service was good. Then around 8.15pm we were told that they couldn’t take anymore food orders at the moment due to the kitchen not coping. So we eventually ordered about 8.45pm and when the food did arrive about 40 mins later, some of it was lukewarm and then other bits were hot! We then ordered dessert and that came late as they didn’t get our order correct and had to confirm later with us what we’d ordered! I felt sorry for our waitress as I think she spent most of the night apologising to us!
Shame, as I’ve been before and it was fine!
The Cricketers has always had a good name, when we first visited the food and atmosphere lived up to its reputation. But recently the quality of food has fell short, seems to have lost its charm.
The bar staff and waiters was spot on and couldn't be faulted.
Table was booked for 7.15pm we ordered drinks. Then told we couldn't order food for another half hour the kitchen was too busy. Our starter arrived at quarter to 9... it was fairly busy but nothing out of the usual.
A starter of 3 halloumi fries for £7... The food had been sat under lamps and was luke warm, I returned my main as it was inedible.
I will defiantly give it another chance, in hope that its just the service getting back to usual after the affects of Covid. I've enjoyed the food and time there before and hope it can get back to their usual standard and quality.
Table booked for 7 but no service for drinks until 7.15 the waiter kept apologising for the delay of our main course and when it did arrive my wife had ordered the fish cake which was still frozen inside!!!!
She was offered a replacement but when we asked how long this would take as now it was after 8pm they said 5 mins!!! They would take a fish cake from another order! That is awful as it meant another patron was having to wait for their meal!!
The staff were scruffy in appearance and the landlady needed to put a smile on her face as she showed us to our table and didn’t say a word!!
The meal was removed from the bill but I wasn’t going to pay anyway.
So our planned evening out on a summers night was blighted by this!!!
Not great unfortunately. Been here a few times but today must have been an off day for them. Burnt food covered in a sauce and chips salted to a degree which meant you couldn’t eat them. Really quite awful.
6 friends met up here it was a lovely sunny day so sat outside where they have a really nice area with lots of umbrellas. Service was good and food as well as reasonably priced. Would recommend.
we usually love this place, but food was not up to standard overall with steaks too tough to eat.
Eton mess was terrible. They used squirty cream and it was so watery.
Coffee so bitter
Easily to book outside, or inside, chose our table, service excellent, food great
A lovely lunch, with a relaxed atmosphere in the garden. I'm hard to please but this is traditional food cooked very well. Will be going back.
Inexperienced staff, though friendly and young so need time to develop. We wanted a short gap between starters and main course and told staff. Then manager came stating chef was on fire. Should cater for customers needs not the staff. Always enjoyed food here in the past but this was a big let down and they need to improve if they want to keep their previous good reputation.
Great place, great service & great food. Would highly recommend.
Nice location. Good friendly staff. Excellent food. Value for money. Thankyou
Treated the children to lunch
The service was brilliant! Shout out to the new guy who smiled and was super helpful throughout.
Joined some friends for brunch. Though the website doesn’t seem to have the brunch menu, selection was decent and a nice full English. Relatively quiet that time in the morning, so service was prompt and the food lovely.
Fantastic food thou roughly enjoyed it.service excellent
Excellent food, we had the soup of the day which was apple and celeriac and it was so different and delicious, the whole meal was lovely and service great.
Very lovely. Really enjoyed the food. Kids loved it too. Looking forward to my next visit :-)
Delicious food. Lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff.
We have enjoyed The Cricketers for many years but our recent visit was not what we are used to.
We were Seated by the kitchen which is not pleasant (we should’ve asked to move) because it’s a thoroughfare for servers collecting/delivering food and the food prep area is visible when the door keeps swinging open.
There was a swarm of young servers on the day we visited but the service was slow and poorly managed. Took an hour to receive our main courses.
Starter of garlic bread was hot but burnt around the edges.
The servers congregate around the kitchen area which made it feel quite noisy and congested while we were eating.
When we asked for the service charge to be removed from the bill the manager just waved at the server to take it off and didn’t seem to want to know why we were asking for it to come off. Whilst the servers were prompt, the food service wasn’t and the ambience did not match the price we were paying for food. We had to ask for more drinks since we had to wait a while for our food. The servers hadn’t spotted that we had sat for an hour without our first course coming.
Very disappointing visit as it was for a birthday and not up to the normal great experience we usually have. Not sure I would return based on this visit. 😞
Enjoyed our food and the service was great.
Always have a good meal at The Cricketers.
Very attentive care.
Good covid security, as an EHP I was very impressed
We arrived for our table outside as we have a dog to be told we were booked for inside - not on our booking! Waited 25 minutes after being shown to our table - went inside to find 6 members of staff chatting - only one young lady serving. In the garden table after table getting angrier with her as food not arriving, no drinks but no one going to help her. Finally ordered drinks and nachos - came back - run out of nachos? Really crisps? Ok gosh and chips - no run out. Chilli arrived dry and only side microwave rice. BLT - should be renamed lettuce tomatoes and fat as the bacon was streaky but poor quality I.e. no bacon all fat. Gosh finger sandwiches- tasted really bad - didn’t continue as was worried it was off. Only saving grace - the young girl at the start and a young waiter called Emanuel - at least he smiled, apologised and tried his best from a really awful situation. Tried to speak to the manager but she was dealing with another complaint and another waiting. We’ve been regulars for YEARS and always loved it, great when reopened but just shocking yesterday.
Great front if house, cheery courteous and dynamic!
Food is always good!!
We asked for outside seating and instead we were put in a shed that was sponsored by Guinness, so the ambience wasn’t great.
Disappointed. Delayed service where you had to keep asking where your drinks and food were. Booking system also poor as booked outdoors seating and originally got placed in an enclosed area.
After booking a table outside as it was going to be the hottest day of the year, they tried to seat us in a tent which was like a sauna which they tried to tell me was outside! I insisted on a table actually outside! Drinks took about 45 mins after my friend went and complained and asked if our food order could be taken too! My friends Caesar Salad had no anchovies or croutons in it, even though the waitress had confirmed that she DID want the anchovies! Had to ask again for someone to take our order for pudding. I asked for the orange tart pudding but got the salted caramel! I really couldn’t be bothered to complain! It is a nice place to eats me the food is nice and I understand that places are getting back into the swing of being open again but there were plenty of staff and there really wasn’t any excuse for our lunch taking 4 hours! On the plus side though it did mean my friend and I could have a really good catch up in the sun!
We've been eating here for years and this was by far the worst experience and probably won't go back. Service wasn't great, quality of the food was very average considering the prices being charged (something we've never minded in the past as the quality has always been there). Tables were dirty (people near us moved because of this). Lots of shouting coming from the kitchen for some reason. Really disappointing!
Great food, friendly staff. We had a lovely evening.
Poor food quality last night chips cold and burger pink... when asked for well done. Don’t expect a any money off the bill but a goodwill gesture would have been welcomed. Service hit and miss! Shan’t be going back for a while, unfortunately.
Excellent pub, great food, lovely atmosphere and great service.
Pleasant experience and nice to see it busy after all the lockdowns. Well done to all the staff and management. Would definitely recommend
Childrens food expensive considering portion size.
Bar prices very expensive.
Service very slow. 40mins before anyone took our food order.
Food was lovely. Vegetable portions for roasts very small so had to ask for another.
A very nice place but the food was not worth the price.
£24 for a large mixed meat roast and I was given the bottom rubbish part of the chicken so had to have it changed.
Also had a tiny bit of veg which was just a few greens and 2 bits of cauliflower!
And when it came too desert I never revied mine so just cancelled it in the end.
