Choose between the main restaurant or the oak-beamed library room, both ideal for a quick bite, family lunch or special event.
We serve locally brewed fine ales, a range of single malt whiskys & locally roasted coffee to drink in or take away.
Food very good, but could have been a bit hotter temperature, not spice.
Very enjoyable meal.
Was recommended to visit this restaurant by friends so booked as a mothers day gift.
Hosts were very friendly and made us feel welcome but on being seated we were told that a lot of the items on the menu were unavailable as they had ran out due to being busy
Unfortunately everything we wanted was on that list so we just had burgers which were overcooked and dry and onion rings were dripping in fat and inedible.
The hosts did say they were dead on there feet as it was so busy.
May try again in the future on a quiet day to see if the food is any better
Lovely country pub, friendly welcome, great service and food. We will be back.
Spur of the moment, booked on Saturday via open table for Sunday roast, very nice pub never been before but will certainly return . Great Sunday Carvery followed by nice puddings all for a reasonable price.
Good carvery - plenty of choice. Puddings were forgotten......half an hour wait for a chocolate fudge cake and a crumble while every table around you get their food is really annoying! No apology was really poor. The hundreds of good reviews for The Crown are clearly deserved but maybe they are a victim of their own success as there weren't enough staff who knew what was going on working on a very busy Sunday lunch.
dog & people friendly pub great for family meetings love the sunday carvery!
will be back this weekend
Excellent food and atmosphere - we will definitely be back.
I booked on line but when we arrived there was a large bike party so very crowed !! They had not booking for us but that was no trouble cleaned up a table and explained what was going on in the pub and why it was so busy so we ate Sunday roast which was good . We would return as when paying the bill a lovely member of staff asked if everything had been ok and asked if we had been before she then went and got evening menu so we could take them away to read at our leisure and she hoped that it had not been too crowed . Good attentive service .
Dinner was delicious but we were left with empty plates for 45mins
Finally called them over and ordered dessert but the service was not good at all
Lovely meal in a great surrounding. The owner looked after us and others very well, nothing was too much trouble.
Landlord Tony and his staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The renovations to this old inn have been done very tastefully and the food was excellent. We'll be back to sample quiz night and Comedy night!
Ist time at The Crown but not the last. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Food was fantastic, although we though the desserts are a tad over priced.
Vegetables were slightly cold. Advised waitress of the above. Everything else was fine. Thank you.
Busy so service was a bit slow, but very friendly and we weren't in any rush Food was lovely and very well-presented.
Fabulous meal thoroughly enjoyed it. Will be back !
My husband ordered steak and I had the beef and stilton pie. The steak was rather fatty and the steak in the pie was a bit tough. I am sure if we had had something other than beef we would not have been so disappointed.
I was asked if I wanted gravy with the pie and when we got the bill I was charged £1 for the gravy! The waiting staff were friendly and eager to please but needed a little more training; e.g had to ask for a steak knife instead of bringing one as soon a someone orders steak.
All that said it is a lovely pub and the library room id the best place to sit.
The carvery was good and they were happy to change our table when we requested.
We ate here as we met up with some friends. The menu looked very good, however,my friend and I ordered lamb, which we thought came with chips. When it came we were a bit disappointed as apparently there was 2 different types of lamb on the menu. However they didn't ask which one we wanted when we ordered. In hindsight we should have studied the menu a bit better but when you see something you want, you don't always look at the rest.
Anyway the service was a bit slow, despite there not being very many people in the pub. My friend found a hair in her dessert, pretty grim. I ordered from the 'ice cream selection' thinking that there would be quite a few flavours to choose from. Alas I was disappointed as the ice cream selection consists of: strawberry, vanilla and chocolate, which priced at £7.50 I think is a bit steep!!!
So we probably won't be eating here again, the best thing about our meal here was probably the company we had with our friends.
Good food excellent service very friendly atmosphere.
Service was excellent! My meal of belly pork was very nice but my wife had the halloumi burger and she was not impressed, having sent it back to be cooked longer, she said there was not much halloumi in it at all.
Very pleasant pub. Good carvery. Staff were pleasant but not very attentive as we had to ask to have the table cleared and then again ask for puddings. Saying that it was a very pleasant afternoon.
First time eating here. Sadly meat was very tough - beef. Gravy thin and lacking flavour and roast potatoes tasteless. Sorry.
Pudding however was delicious 😀
A quiet and pleasant evening was had with good food and drinks. The staff were really nice and looked after us well. Background music was kept low which was great and meant you could speak without competing with the sound system.
Will certainly be going back :).
Once again great Sunday lunch, atmosphere and value for money. Have yet to be disappointed. Planning to make regular visits.
I had a very pleasant lunch here with my elderly relatives. The carvery was pretty good, although the vegetables could have been hotter, but the meat was very well cooked. I think £11.50 is a little overpriced for a carvery however. On the plus side the desserts were lovely! In terms of service, we were well looked after by friendly staff but, call me old fashioned, I would prefer not to be called 'my love' and 'girls' by people who don't even know me.
Over all we were quite happy.
Menu bore little resemblance to what was advertised on line, waitress reaction when questioned was to say, "Oh, they haven't updated the website for ages". Our table was next to the door leading to the garden, we had inadvertently chosen 'bikers night' and a constant stream of bikers came and went through the door often leaving it open for us to get up and close it. The triple cooked chips were dark in colour not golden - probably because the fat was too hot.
Great surroundings, great food, great prices, great service and atmosphere
Good and promote service and food great too, I was able to see the food I was to eat before it was cooked(steaks).
We had a wonderful visit to the Crown, loved the pub's beautiful dogs and scenery and had absolutely top class service.
I drove to the Crown because I performed a search for best hamburgers near Swindon. I was lucky it was also an Opentable reservation. A few people at the bar when I walked in and people were coming in as I was eating. Seems to be a typical pub, local and popular.
I ordered the hamburger and it was just okay. I am not comparing it to any other burger just on the merits of that burger. The patty was decent size, cooked well done but had 2 rings of tomato and 2 small rings of onion. There was a small salad and some warm fries. I cut up the onion so I could at least get some onion with eat bite. Honestly, the burger is nothing special and if you want any additions, each one is 1 GBP. According to the menu it is 6 ounces.
I think there are other items on the menu that would be very good.
Visited the Crown to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. The atmosphere was good and the staff friendly. We waited a long time for the food to come only to be disappointed when it did. My husband's lamb shank was nicely cooked and overall satisfactory but my beef stew with mash potato was very disappointing. It was extremely dry and looked like it had been sat under a warming lamp for about an hour. I told the waitress about the stew being so dry and asked if I could have some gravy to moisten it up a little. I was given some promptly but with no apology or further communication from the staff. I will not be eating there again. :(
Food was excellent, the service from the friendly staff was quick & efficient
We booked our table for 1pm, arrived slightly early and were told table was ready for us. Staff were very pleasant.
As it was aSunday it was traditional Sunday roast. We enjoyed the choice of meats and there were plenty of veg to help yourself to.
This was or first visit and certainly wont be our last.
Would definatel recommend to friends and familt.
Very welcoming, log fire in snug and nice decor.
Staff very friendly and helpful. especially when we pointed out there were 2 different menu prints given to us!
We all enjoyed our food, had to wait a little though to pay our bill
All five of our family enjoyed our Sunday Carvery Lunch in friendly surrounding table bookings staggered so no overcrowding or long ques the staff were attentive and polite and we all enjoyed the properly prepared food by chefs it was cooked to perfection and well presented.
Love this restaurant. Been back 8 times since finding this little treasure. Sunday roast is amazing. I love the family homely feeling, no pressure, just a relaxed setting. just how Sunday should be.
3rd visit to the Crown for Sunday Lunch, great choice of meats and help yourself to a wide selection of veg. Friendly welcome from bar staff and waitress for pudding orders, we will be back!
Excellent food, beautifully cooked and presented like a high end restaurant. Attentive, friendly staff, child and dog friendly, highly recommend.
I went on a special steak night. The quality of meat and other food was very good and the service from the landlord and other staff was very friendly.
This was our second visit after moving to the area and it proved t o be every bit as good as the first. With another large table with children we booked an early Sunday lunch with the little ones were able to eat immediately from the carvery. The food was lovely; home cooked fresh veg, lovely choice of three roasts and all the trimmings! After lunch we went out to have coffee in the spacious garden where the children could play safely and admire the fish in the big pond. The staff were friendly, efficient and attentive. We brought friends from further afield and we decided this needed a repeat trip soon!
