Mid week birthday celebration. Nice pub, staff are friendly. The dining room is fairly small with no soft furnishings and once full is quite noisy.
My starter (fish goujons) and main (steak) were lovely, I wasn't over keen on the pepper sauce but it came in a separate dish so that was fine. I found the chunky chips a bit dry, if we go back I would try the skinny fries option.
Unfortunately we ended up leaving rather hurriedly as my husband was badly affected by a strong perfume worn by one of the other diners, so I cannot comment on the desserts.
The food, service and venue were equally amazing. Our rib of beef was cooked to perfection.
The only fault with our booking through this way we did not know Tuesday's were film night
And the restaurant was being used for that.
Quirky pub, looks can be deceptive, very odd style of service, Megan was lovely, fantastic food, not too expensive though
Went to for Sunday lunch and there was a pork and beef option but my friend only eats chicken. The team spoke to the chef who cooked a chicken breast for my friend. Great customer service.
A great seasonal menu always awaits, great selection of wines and ales with the bonus of some interesting cocktails too.
its always difficult to choose from the small but perfectly formed menu.
We were taking some friends that had not been to The Crown before, we are always greeted with a smile and nothing is ever to much trouble.
Scotch egg was fantastic combined with the home made ketchup
pork belly was beautifully prepared and tasted as good as it looked.
Sirloin was perfect....
fantastic chefs and front of house staff fun, attentive but not intrusive. A great balance, keep up the good work.
Booked lunch at the Crown to meet friends as a convenient location approximately midway between where we both live, and we were very pleased at our choice.
The staff were courteous and helpful in all respects. The food was very good, everybody was very pleased with their choices. Service was excellent, and the overall ambience very relaxing.
Definitely one we will keep on our list.
We dine at the Crown quite often as it is within a short walking distance. This means we have tried all the dishes on the menu and have not been disappointed. Being regulars, we know the staff well and always get a warm welcome and notice that other diners receive a similar level of friendliness and attention. They also operate a loyalty card scheme, which is quite generous for us regular diners.
The food was good and nicely presented. However, there was little in the way of vegetarian options. The starter was cheese and the main was cheese souffle - not a great choice, especially given the prices!
Really good food, as ever, with lovely service. Also child friendly.
Cheese and watercress soufflés were excellent, light and tasty. The chessboard makes the most of the outstanding local cheeses including Tunworth, Dorset Blue, and a local cheddar - not to be missed. Very enjoyable family lunch to celebrate a couple of birthdays.
Warm and welcoming evening with wonderful food and first class service. Children made very welcome. A delight.
Delicious food reasonably priced, and very helpful staff who easily helped us to find tasty gluten free and dairy free options
We went for Sunday lunch. The pub looks nice from the outside. It's an old world place in an old world village location. However inside the decor is very disappointing. The dining room has an artex ceiling with unconvincing wooden beams which is a shame as it's a genuinely old building. The bar looks like it dates from the 1970s. The curtains look cheap and none of the furnishings look either chic or old world, so fail on all counts. On top of that the pub appears to be staffed by "kids". It's totally lacking in any ambience. The menu was very restrictive. There was no Sunday roast, although it appears that there usually is. The one bright spot is that the chips were very good. However, in spite of the chips I recommend that you book elsewhere.
Delicious food and had a lovely time. It was the first time we had been there, but we will return.
Nice for a bit of lunch if you're in the area but I wouldn't make a special effort to go there.
This was our second visit to The Crown and it was just as nice as the first time. The staff are friendly and the food was excellent all being made to order, so slight changes to the menu were not a problem. It was a very easy and relaxing evening.
We use the crown for the first time and were not disappointed, the food was excellent and service first class. did not have to wait long for our food, staff were attentive but not intrusive. would reccomend the Crown, all food is cooked from fresh. I would recommend the fish and chips light batter on fish and the chips are triple cooked to perfection. we had a very enjoyable evening.
Very relaxed atmosphere. Lovely village surroundings. The food and service were excellent. I would recommend the crown to everyone
Very good service, met a friend for lunch and ate in the lovely sunny garden, staff very attentive and friendly.
Food was excellent - goats cheese salad was exceptional with the textures of pear and then crunchy walnuts and my friends ploughmans was great with homemade pickles and chutneys - both generous and good value for money with fresh, good quality ingredients.
The puddings were so tempting we managed to squeeze them in even though we were pretty full - again, good quality and generous servings.
Presently surprised with the bill, not expensive at all - we will definitely be back.
This is our local and we love it. Consistently good food, great staff, nice atmosphere
Excellent food. The fish of the day was especially good. Service was very friendly. I would definitely recommend the Crown.
A great place to go for tasty food, compliments to the chef & the waiter service.
We visited on a Saturday night. The restaurant was full, but not overcrowded and had a pleasant ambiance. Food was good and the wines we chose particular so. The only slight downside was that the service was a little keen, I felt a bit rushed to place our order, but this was a minor point and we would be happy to eat there again.
We arrived for my husband's birthday lunch at 2 (the kitchen was about to close) we were welcomed as always and didn't feel rushed. Anita went out of her way to arrange a table where we wanted and sorted out a high chair for our son. The choice of food was fantastic, including the kids menu. We had a great lunch and Anita even put a candle in my husbands pudding! The crown is so child friendly and we can't praise the atmosphere and food enough. Our favourite place to eat and drink locally.
Was spoilt for choice with such an inspired menu. And the menu delivered! The food was superb - Scotch egg / Organic mushroom - starters - fabulous; Cornish haddock / Steak / Cheese Souffle mains - - all outstanding. And other half loved the beer! Can't wait to return.
