I felt that the menu was limited with choice the meal that i picked was not available and overall a bit pricey
would defiantly recommend to a friend!
had a lovely time, food was perfect. the dancing and music was a good touch and the service was grand
really nice atmosphere for sat night, loved the music. more food diversity would be a suggestion
We were 5 of us with a baby (2 months old), I made the reservation online and I got it confirmed that the table is available.
Around 19:45 , i got a call from the restaurant that they are over booked but promised us a table in the coffee area.
The coffee area had couches , not a comfortable place to have a meal but we had no other choice.
We arrived and the music was too loud, we dont wanna disturb our sleeping baby and I requested the Manager to reduce the volume, surprisingly he was concerned and turned off the speaker on our side, such a relief.
My battery ran out when I was waiting for the family, the staff even let me use the phone.
Quality : Superb
Quantity : Good Portions
Staff : Friendly and helpful
Ambience : Nice
price : Could have been little bit cheaper but worth for the money
A good place for Tapas...
I recommend Cuban.
Thanks to the staff
Arrived at 7.45 and ordered wine. Ordered our food at 8 pm. Wine arrived just after 8pm. Starters received at 8.45 pm. Had to ask for the dips that were due to come with them. Mains arrived at 9.30 pm. Meals were lukewarm. Sent back and we asked for the bill.
Manageress to be fair was very nice, apologised and did refund us our starters so just paid for the wine. However was not the evening that was envisaged!
On arriving for our reservation it was quite but a nice restaurant. At least we will get excellent service. We did not need to wait too long for our tappers as we were all hungry. Then the first of our disappointment hit us. The food was very bland as a person that lived in Spain for 5 years. The second was that within 2 min of eating the food was very cold. I will try them again as i believe it may just be because it was Christmas eve.
The Cuban is a very good looking restaurant, with beautiful dining areas within a big, open room. The choice available on the menu is impressive, and each dish is beautifully presented on distinctive tableware. The food itself, in addition to looking good, was also delicious, with care and attention put into combining mouthwatering flavours into every dish. Unfortunately, the quality of the food was let down by inattentive, slightly lax service. It was very difficult to catch the eye of our server, he attempted to walk away after presenting our mains without asking if we wanted anything else (we wanted sauces) and after presenting the bill, he spent a good 10-15 minutes walking around the restaurant, seemingly without purpose, before we could catch his attention to pay. The server was on his own, however, so this could have partially been a staffing issue.
I'd never been to a Cuban restaurant before this visit and I really enjoyed the food. The decor was really well done but it was very quiet, even for a weekday so ambiance/atmosphere was a little flat. The staff where great and so was the wine. I'd definitely recommend someone to give it a go.
I just want to say Thankyou to the staff that served us with beautiful service and great food.
It was my children 1st visit. My son who is 20yrs and daughter is 18yrs old. They both loved the food, the service and the atmosphere in there.
I think my son might be going there again this weekend with his friends for pre-drinks and food before the club.
Many many thanks. You were all great ambassadors for the restaurant.
Amazing food with extremely generous portion sizes. Cocktails are gorgeous. Dancing and people and fab. Fantastic atmosphere. X
Great atmosphere like your on a Cuban holiday - food we had was very good (steak) starters very nice and staff were friendly enough. Loved the. Music and dancers - will return
The food was hot and presented very well by a very helpful waitress
When compared to my first visit, yhe second time around was worth the money paid af all. As usual the food was nice, however the service was terrible and our seat was outside of the main area where we were ignored. Went on a Friday night as that was when I went last time and had a hreat time because of the dancing at 10pm. However, we kept waiting for this to happen again and in the end just gave up and left, the whole reason we went later to eat was to watch the dancing. Not impressed. Overpriced for what I thought would be a romantic time which in fact was not. Will try again but not for a while, and not on a Friday.
The food and service were great, drinks were a little pricey, usually they clear some tables have salsa dancing, unfortunately this wasn't on during our visit :(. A great evening nonetheless.
had a lovely evening and smashing food dancing was great fun cant wait to go again
We had an amazing time at the Cuban, food was excellent, service very good. Can't fault it at all
My 1st time at this venue and really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I must say the 6 of us we're a bit dissapoonted with the booth as it was a tight squeeze for all us to get in and eat comfortably.
I enjoyed the food but my experience was let down by poor service. Our waitress seemed more interested in flirting with any men in the restaurant and constantly ignored our table. It was the worst service I have had in a long time, so much so that we decided it wouldn't even necessitate a tip. However to add insult to injury there was a 10% service charge already included in the bill! I think this is inappropriate for a table of 2 people. I understand this policy for larger groups, but it seems quite cheeky for a small group especially since it wasn't mentioned on the menu. I feel ripped off after this visit, which was my first and probably only time in this restaurant.
A good night out at the Cuban for my birthday. A table for 4 at a booth near the stage was great. The service was quick and the staff were very efficient and friendly. The food was good, the Music was loud and the Dancers were Fabulous. Some of the tables were cleared later in the evening to make a dance floor and it was full immediately with couples dancing their Cuban and Salsa mixes. Loved it!
We came to The Cuban after a recommendation but sadly were left disappointed. The food was average but the price higher than expected for average food. We were not offered another drink whilst eating our main meal nor were was asked if everything was ok, my chicken wasn't very hot to be honest and would have mentioned this if asked. We wanted to order a bottle of wine but couldn't seem to get anyones attention even when they looked in our direction which made me feel awkward trying to get their attention. We were looking forward to nice food and to sample some rums after but we decided to go else where after paying our bill and being really thirsty!
They also added a service charge which was unexpected for a table of two so we asked for it to be removed which the waitress kindly did after explain it was optional - the bill hadn't stated this.
Its fair to say we wont be back after a disappointing visit.
We took two 11 year olds on a Friday evening, for a special night out . The tapas was great and so were the desserts. We all had a memorable night with fun entertainment. The the staff were very attentive,, helpful and made a fuss of the young ones, particularly a lovely Italian waitress. Couldn't be faulted in anyway.
Visited recently with my wife who is Coeliac. We chose The Cuban because the menu has quite a varied choice. So we ordered 2 Tapas starters, both marked G (Gluten free). Our waiter told us that one of the choices was prepared in a fryer that was used for wheat products and recommended an alternative that was in fact Gluten Free even though the menus did not list it as so !! Very glad our waiter was knowledgeable, but I wonder if they all are ? Why do restaurants not recognise the real dangers of not respecting the needs of Coeliacs?
Well worth a visit if you enjoy South American food, music, and cocktails.
The service was excellent, and our waiter was on hand to help whenever we needed him.
Altogether a great experience, and one we'll be repeating soon.
The service was awful. Slow Too busy & not enough staff , how many times do we experience this. 45 minutes it took since arrival to get a drink , even when I complained the response was nonchalant.
The food was mediocre , the rice & beans dry & reheated, beans shrivelled.
Not a good experience. Wouldn't go again & wouldnt recommend.
Living in Bristol, having seen the restaurant, both me and my partner were really looking forward to our night at The Cuban. However, I was extremely disappointed with my meal; the starter, calamari, was so chewy I could not finish the course, the same goes for the steak I had. I was extremely disappointed with this and would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
We had never been to The Cuban is Bristol before but found a large underground car park in the Harbourside development litteraly two minutes walk from the restaurant itself. The area was full of eating places and had a relaxed aura quite condusive to eating out.
On entering The Cuban the response was quick and they took my voucher (Amazon local) without any quibble and showed us to a cubicle as requested. The person that served us brought us our Mojitos promptly and courteously.
Having deliberated on the menu i had to explain our selection twice and then double check it as the piped music seemed to dull our conversation with the server.
The starter appear promptly and was quite tasty (Nachos and spicy chicken strips) and disapeared as quickly being consumed very rapidly.
The meal and well cooked although i ended up with chips rather than the jacket potato i ordered. The chips were quite acceptable and nicely seasoned. with the BBQ ribs well cooked and smothered with a tasty sauce although i feel i only got the half rack of ribs rather than the full rack i ordered. My wife's meal was equaly proportioned and as well cooked.
My comment on the whole experience, would be visit on a quiet Tuesday/Wednesday evening, and also don't visit without a discount voucher, as the listed prices on the menu is far too much for the quantity and quality of what foodyou get. Dont get me wrong the food and drink was perfectly acceptable at the voucher price but not at the menu price, which will double what you could pay!
I bought a voucher off groupon for The Cuban for a meal for 2 for £19 worth £70. The voucher was for a 9 tapas meal with either a carafe of sangria or a pint of lager each. There was a variety of food to choose from the tapas menu, however nothing much different from any other english retaurant starter choices/side dishes such as; calamari rings, nachos, minature quesdillas, sweet potatoe fries, mini meatballs etc. I was expecting the food to be more exotic and something I had never tried before, being a cuban restaurant. The food is very overpriced for what it is, it is not worth £70 and I'm glad that I got a voucher for £20.
I would be hesitant to go again, however I didn't really have a look at what the main menu had to offer.
The service was really good.
The food was great, the staff were very attentive (even on the third occasion my boyfriend dropped his fork), the ambience seemed very authentic with latino music (not sure if it was Cuban because I haven't been there but it sounded like it). It's a shame they don't have their entertainment a bit earlier as It would've made us stay longer, having a few more Mojitos :-)
Had 10 tapas dishes and sangria. food lovely however sweet potatoe fries were too oily hence 4 stars. Sangria was lush tasty and refreshing
Bought a Groupon deal where we got two courses and a mojito for two people for £30.
Bearing in mind they knew we were having. Mojito as soon as we walked in, the weak watered down cocktails arrived after we'd eaten our starters. We then ordered another cocktail, which tasted so much better and genuine (after waiting an age and chasing it up again).
Asked for the desert menu twice, asked for our bill twice and then they had the need to add a service charge to it!
Food was nice, but I'll not return .
The ambience and cocktails are great, you get a real cuban feel for the place, but unfortunately the food really does let it down. we had an amazon local voucher so our choices were restricted which i don't mind, however one would expect that they would pick the best of what they have. We chose calamari and patatas bravas as they had ran out of arancini balls, they came with small dipping pots but we were not asked if we would like any other sauces and we were also not asked at any point if we were enjoying our meal. Now normally i wouldn't mind but i ordered flattened plantain and chilli beef but the plantain was practically raw and raw plantain tastes disgusting to the point i couldn't even eat it. I also received the biggest portion of coleslaw known to man, I love my food but this i had to leave. My partner did however enjoy the seafood cassoulet.
Me and 5 friends visited the Cuban for a birthday celebration using a Groupon for tapas and sangria. The staff in the restaurant were all friendly but some of them did not have the best grasp of English meaning we had to repeat requests several times as they did not understand us. Food was very quick and delicious but drinks on the other hand took so long to be made we were left wondering if the barman had gone all the way to Cuba to make them!!!
Despite the slow drinks service I would recommend the Cuban and look forward to my next visit.
as soon as it was established we were a groupon customer, the senior staff were quite off (female). i certainly wouldnt pay £5.99 for a tapas of such a small size e.g 3 meat balls so it really couldnt be argued as good value. the carafe of sangria was fruit juice with out a trace of alcohol. for £20 it was 'ok' but to be honest i didnt like the atmosphere with stressed staff and the same music video on repeat. formukaic and boring.
The food was fantastic, however on both occasions we waited a long time to be served, and had to call the waiters over numerous times for the same thing, not acceptable.
It was our first visit to the Cuban and the experience was amazing. we will definitely go back and try more tapas and cocktails.
Its just a shame that they ran out of food on a saturday...it was only 8.30. we had to wait quite a while for food but it was such good atmosphere we didnt mind too much. We had to remind them for drinks etc. All the staff were lovely...it was very busy but they were still smiling. The dancing girls were fab and very friendly. Definitely want to come again :-)
Arrived for a booked table at 7 table was booked for 7:15 waited 20 mins for the table. ( wasn't an issue because we could see how busy the restaurant was)
Sat down at the table waited 15 mins before any member of staff interacted with us .. Luckily we had purchased a drink from the bar otherwise we would of been very agitated.
Ordered our food and drink .. Tapas x3 steak and burger. The steak and burger arrived to the table fine followed by three of the dishes from the tapas with 6 missing ... 10 minutes later another 3 dishes arrived (I now finally had something to nibble on whilst I waisted for my last two dishes to arrive) I waited another 10 minutes my friends had finished their food I still hadn't had my whole meal arrive. My friend decided to speak to someone to find out where it was and it appeared that my meals had been lost amongst everyone else's!
Not one member of staff came over to apologise and inform me of how long the rest of the food would be. A further 5 minutes I decided to find a manager to cancel my food I had other plans to get to and by that point was no longer hungry. The young gent who was uninterested in my "feedback" never came over to the table to apologise or inform me of what was happening to my bill, I then took it into my own hands and found another manager whom was more sympathetic however nothing could be resolved my evening and my friends evening had been ruined .. I didn't pay for the food that didn't come out and 50% discount was given on the remaining bill however I will never return to this restaurant. I will be informing people of the terrible service and experience we had that evening! The staff either need more training in taking food orders or employ more members and give them a section each so that someone can actually resolve the issue rather than your guest having to search the restaurant for a manager who's interested in dealing with an issue!
Basically it's the Walkabout, but Cuban rather than Australian. Our 9 tapas dishes all seemed to be either deep fried or re heated, certainly not fresh. Lovely bar maids
Very tasty Tapas, but not particularly wonderful value. The remainder of the menu had not much Cuban about it at all. Mostly a mix of Spanish and Tex-Mex and while I'm sure that would b e fine for most diners the lack of specifically Cuban dishes was a bit of a disappointment.
Nothing Cuban about it. More bar than restaurant. Wannabe high street type food chain/menu. Poor quality food. Satisfactory service. Give it a miss.
