The Cumin Restaurant
The Anand family has a long & successful history of catering, originating from the Punjab, North India.
Opened in 2007, the Cumin is situated just a stone’s throw from the Market Square and the castle. The restaurant offers a true taste of North Indian and Punjabi Cuisine.
The Cumin’s attained many awards over the years, Best Newcomer, Best in Midlands by Pat Chapman & the Cobra Guide for 2013 - 2014, shortlisted for the British Curry Awards 2014-2015 and receiving 5 star Metro rating are just a few.
These awards come from amazing cuisine, service & passion for the restaurant. Sunny who looks after front of house ensures all his guests are looked after, while our award winning executive chef Shelley brings the spices, aroma & flavors of North Indian Punjabi cuisine with a twist of his own skills & flare.

Great food delicious lamb chops
Lovely veg ByrianI cooked as it should be. Very tasty
Good service too
The food was delicious. Service was very efficient and friendly, social distancing measures were good. My only negative would be that poppadoms are sold in 3s not singly so for 4 of us we could only have 3 or 6, this seems quite cheeky to me.
Four of us were well looked after. The restaurant has gone to great trouble to ensure everyone’s safety
It was an enjoyable evening with high quality Indian food plus superb service. We will be back.
It is the first time visiting the restaurant wo
food very tasty very quick service. It was a lovely evening.will deffinetly visit again.
Fantastic food. G&T needed much more ice. Cobra spot on. Pretty good service. Manager good guy who checked in on us every now and then. Quite noisy but if you like a lively atmosphere...😊👍 Would go back without a doubt.
Had an overnight stop in Nottingham from Newcastle and based on previous good reviews decided to give the Cumin a try.We were not disappointed only 2mins walk from the old market square in the centre of Nottingham we were immediately greeted and seated in a nice table upstairs, this was a Friday night so pretty busy, menu offered a great selection as well as the usual suspects. The food and service was excellent l had the masala king prawns to start and spiced lamb chops for main, both delicious as was The tandoori salmon which my wife chose.Slightly more expensive than the norm, expect to pay around £60 for starter mains nan and drink for 2 but we’ll worth it.No hesitation in recommending this well run friendly restaurant.
Amazing food, the waiters and staff went all out and were very friendly. Excellent night really enjoyed it we will return again.
We had the onion bhaji and it was the best I've ever had. Also had the okra and a fabulous lamb dish. Excellent service and really good dinner!
Really enjoyed everything about this restaurant .Friendly welcome on arrival , relaxed service delivered in exactly the right way for our party.
Food was very good and presented in a way that some more expensive eateries could learn from.
Sonny, the owner, engaged with us in such a way that we felt very comfortable from when we took our seats until we left . It really was as if we had made friends there and everyone in the group was keen to return.
A great evening and I would recommend this place to everyone who likes a curry but with a more upmarket feel. Thanks to all of the Cumin team.
Great food, amazing service. Flew all the way from India to watch the match and was looking for a good Indian meal and spotted the cumin restaurant. Loved the lamb biryani, the amazing chole bhatura and the chilli chicken reminded me of a meal from India. A must try would surely recommend.
3 of us had a meal hear at 8.30pm on Monday 3rd June. The restaurant was busier than normal due to cricket fans having a meal after the World Cup game - England v Pakistan at Trent Bridge, but by no means full. We ate upstairs and had to wait quite a while for 3 beers and to order our food. Eventually after a long wait our starters arrived. I had the squid for £7.00 which was one of the smallest I have ever seen - five small rings of squid and a chilli type sauce on the side which wasn't very nice + some not very fresh (dry) salad leaves. My colleagues starters looked slightly better but not very exciting. The staff looked harassed and under pressure all night - I have no idea why.....as I said the place wasn't full.
The main course I had was the speciality of the house - biriani; cooked in a salt crust. the chicken was dry - the dish had obviously been over-cooked. I have been here several times before and always thought it was better than the Memsahib restaurant up the road. This was a very bad night at the office!
First time visited on Thursday 23rd, loved it so much went back with family on the Saturday. Fabulous food, the team are so welcoming and friendly which makes your visit. Can't recommend it highly enough. The best.
Delicious food served by lovely people.
Good place for a curry in town.
As ever the service, quality of food and ambience were just what we love!
We had a fabulous meal. Excellent service - friendly and efficient. The menu is small but very authentic. We really enjoyed the food
Alway good food and very friendly staff.servie was brilliant
Great food, on the spicy side but very tasty and enjoyable. Lots of options and able to adapt the menu. Good wine selection and great atmosphere. Will be back!
Very friendly and attentive staff, a little more expensive than I 'm used to but it was in the centre of town.Food was delicious and arrived quickly
Excellent food and service. Could not fault the restaurant as a whole. We had a group of eight for a stag do having dinner and they were very welcoming considering the energy a few of the party bought to the atmosphere. Quick service with outstanding food and friendly staff. Would wholeheartedly recommend.
Went for a meal Monday night and it was great . Great service very friendly . The food was fantastic . Came away very full . An enjoyable evening
We have been going to try the cumin on several occasions whilst staying in Nottingham for weekend, finally made it last Saturday and wish we had been before, the food and service were excellent, it was a little pricey but sometimes you get what you pay for and this was worth every penny.
Very lively restaurant. The food was first class and the service was very good. The staff were very friendly. I would highly recommend the restaurant for those that enjoy high quality Indian food.
Great authentic Indian food. Good quality and value.
My wife & I went for our anniversary, without a doubt the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food was outstanding. Highly recommended
Very good food and fast service but the main course portions were a little too small. We didn't order any starters and the main courses came very quickly despite the restaurant being quite busy because we went on a Saturday night. There were a few large parties which made the room was very noisy but apart from that it was a pleasant experience.
Each dish was delicious
Will definitely be returning
Managed to book in with a party of 15 for a stag do, very good food plenty of beer and good service. Excellent dishes enjoy by all.
Cumin is a great place to eat food always great, staff brilliant so friendly.we will definitely go again
Food was as lovely , staff great
Very nice meal thank you x
Really good Indian food. Really fresh, nicely spiced, perfectly cooked fish starter set the tone, but all the following dishes were pretty much as good. Highly recommend the birianis, with their pastry sealed lids opened at the table; this seems to successfully have the effect of trapping in the moisture and producing a full=of=flavour dish. Service is welcoming, friendly and efficient. There’s a few good Indian restaurants in Nottingham at the moment, but Cumin is one of the best.
It was a great meal with friendly staff. The service was very good went for 2 birthdays and both got a cake. The only negative comment was a little bit chilly so would wear a jumper would not put me off going again
Our favourite Indian restaurant! Food and service always excellent.
Everything is excellent. The food is exquisite and the specials are worth a try.
Amazing food, nice friendly staff, not the poshest date night type place but really enjoyed it, thanks!
Always visit this restaurant when in Nottingham. Excellent food. Friendly family run place.
As per usual great food service and ambience thanks until next time
Absolutely loved my evening at Cumin. Amazing food unlike any other curry place I've ever been, can't wait to go back and explore more of the menu! It is limited but this makes it taste amazing as you know is very fresh. Would recommend for a date night or family dinner
Our table for 2 was a little cramped and very close to other guests either side. Poppadom pickles were very mild and the portions of starter (onion bhaji) and main course (rice and curry) were on the small side, however everything was very tasty and the service excellent - will probably try again.
