The Dairy Bar & Bistro
We went here for Sunday lunch and unfortunately our experience wasn’t great. It was only on arriving that we were told we couldn’t order off the a la carte menu and had to have a three course meal, which ultimately cost everyone over £40. The quality of the food didn’t really seem to warrant that though the bread and butter is always a treat and the desert was lovely. We had quite an abrupt waitress who seemed rushed and a bit annoyed - at one point we asked for another side plate to share one of the starters and she angrily stated she wasn’t sure it would fit on the table even though there was plenty of room. The worst of it was that two separate people in our party found long hairs in their main courses which were well embedded in the food and another waitress seemed to imply it must be from one of our party and barely offered an apology or any kind of compensation. Overall though the restaurant looks lovely, the service really wasn’t good enough and made us uncomfortable and the quality of the food unfortunately wasn’t up to the cost.
Excellent food, buzzy atmosphere and great service, the ingredients for a good night out!
What a fabulous place to dine! The tasting menu was delicious and the service splendid. This is now my favourite place in Clapham! Will be back again soon!
The Dairy’s taster menu is a complete surprise and delight to your taste buds. The service is wonderful and the waiting staff are knowledgeable and passionate about the food they serve. Some of the best food in London without a doubt.
Great meal - as always. Sunday lunch is great value and delicious.
Really tasty food, and reasonably priced for the quality.
Service was impeccable and drinks were good too.
Very nice place with good quality/cost ratio. Need to try lunch menu as brunch one was very average
We had the tasting menu- The food was ok, but for the price Chez Bruce down the road is 10 times better as is the service.
The main meal (beef) was chewy and almost impossible to cut and we sent it back, the chicken came out and was much better, but meant my friend whose birthday it was had finished her food alone by the time ours arrived.
The waitress was rushed and not very attentive.
We were sat next to the toilets which was not ideal.
I had noted it was my friends bday but they didn’t even wish her birthday, yet the table
Next to us were given a little desert with a candle and happy birthday written on the plate.
It was a nice evening but the food and service was very average when paying over £85 per head.
First we should say we did not choose the tasting menu and only bought one bottle of wine so it was incredible value. All the dishes were great (pork scratchings, potato tart, cheese on toast and fish). The only negatives were choosing too much cheese and they need to adapt the potato tart so it has more texture. Three of us chose the salted caramel pudding with the toasted chocolate grains and it was a bit too peculiar for my liking and incredible sweet. But would definitely go again - the waiting staff were really helpful but don't try to have a quiet conversation - bare walls mean there is an echo.
Service was a bit slow. Lovely food
Nice place and ambience but the tasting menu was very underwhelming. I’m not questioning the creativity or thought but there’s a lot to be said for keeping dishes and flavours simple and tasty.
Really wanted to like the Dairy. But service was slow and felt cold and perfunctory. Food was good but not great, especially considering the price.
Stunning food, great service, beautiful setting. Love this place x
This place has gone down hill since it opened. Where once the diner was taken on an imaginative culinarily journey featuring the best of British produce we now are obliged to feast on bread and overly fatty offerings of cheap cuts of meat. The home churned butter is still sublime but the poetry has left the building........along with balance nutritional value and the originality of the concept. In short - don’t bother.
The food was imaginative, beautifully presented and unwaveringly delicious.
A lot of squeals of delight and sharing forkfuls at our table.
Looking forward to a return visit.
Second visit as the first time we ate here we thought it was fabulous. The food this time was very disappointing and the waitress had a can't be bothered attitude. We booked for 3pm and ate whilst the restaurant packed up around us. Wont be returning or recommending again
The restaurant is in a great location on the Common, nice for a drink in the sun.
Our seating was a little dark (down the back) for a Summer Saturday lunch, it would have been nice to be near the window or outside if the weather was good.
The staff we friendly and helpful.
The set course menu was a good option, allowing us to try multiple small plates.
Unfortunately we didn't really enjoy the food. The ingredients and flavours were not quite what we were expecting based on reviews from friends therefore if I were to go again, I would opt for brunch.
Food was mostly good - though main courses were not great. Service was very slow and in some cases incompetent. 2.5 hours to get through the tasting menu - that seems a lot.
Great food and perfect service!
Great place with great value tasting menu!
Overall it was a pleasant visit, unfortunately we were seated at the back of the restaurant with no air con so was rather unpleasantly hot, when we asked for the air-con to be turned on we were told it was rubbish and has never worked properly.
Food was good, had the taster which I had a couple of months back, not much new on the menu which was a little disappointing but the standard was great. Service was friendly and helpful at all times, maybe just consider temperature on the warmer nights.
Would return again, may wait to have the taster for a while until new additions appear.
Great venue and service, staff very friendly. Did the tasting menu - whilst food was pretty good the wine pairing was disappointing.
We visited Sorella several months ago and absolutely loved everything about it! For our 15th wedding anniversary this week we decided to give The Dairy a shot, hoping it would be as amazing as its sister restaurant. And it was! As our server on the evening said (and she was amazing. I don’t know her name but lady from Northern Italy - you were marvellous!) ‘our food focus is different but our service ethic and our passion for food is the same’. And she was as good as her word! Every single dish on the tasting menu was a revelation and the accompanying drinks tasting was thoughtful, interesting and generously poured!! We had a very special night and will go back again!
A lovely weekend lunch at my favourite Clapham restaurant... the set Sunday menu was different but still delicious
Lovely experience at brunch although the service was a bit scant
Notably less impressive food than they used to serve. Disappointed.
Third time we've been here over the last 5 or so years. Consistently great food, always go for the tasting menu. Friendly staff, chef often comes out to chat to customers which is always a nice touch. Highly recommend!
I had dinner there for a special occasion. Nobody came to us to check.. food was nice. Good vibe in the restaurant but service was not excellent.
Food came quickly and was delicious. Such a cute place!
Service was friendly and warm (we liked the nervous new french guy who served us bottled beers with the bottle tops still sealed - we found it amusing/cute)
The food was really really good apart from my girlfriends undercooked, chewy lamb ... the following course (truffled cheese) absolutely 100 percent made up for it ...
The ginger cocktail was absolutely stunning .
As was the atmosphere / ambience .
I work in the industry myself so I’m sometimes a little over observant but I loved my tasting menu (I had the chicken)
And will definitely be returning !
We were only offered a v limited menu - as they had decided to close the kitchen due to the weather. Very indifferent service, and very overpriced with the bill coming to £80 for a few small dishes and a couple of glasses of wine. Shame as it used to be such a good restaurant
Brilliant experience, food was delightful. Only downfall was the air con, it was a warm evening and it was needed.
Took our nephew for Sunday lunch. Loved the feel of the place and loved the set menu and not having to make any choices! Delicious sharing starters, roast lamb etc. Very friendly and efficient waiting staff
Amazing as always. Such a good restaurant!! The bone marrow is so good!!
Wondetful set menu
we have eaten here many times and it is always superb . The tasting menu is great value and the service is exceptional . Lucky to have it as our local !!
Great restaurant with great atmosphere
High top seating is uncomfortable, food was tepid, and not good value for money as the sizes too small. On the other hand, some of the dishes were really delicious, like the caramel chocolate dessert.
We chose The Dairy from The Good Food Guide. It is rated Cooking 6.
(We regularly eat at restaurants from this guide)
Our expectations were high but sadly the food did not measure up.
Our waitress was extremely unfriendly and unhelpful, I think the customer service at the Dairy definitely needs some attention. Otherwise the food was great.
