This is an amazing place to dine, have a drink or just sit and have a coffee! Staff are super friendly.
Met up with friends for dinner. Drinks in the bar were served promptly. Lovely ambience to the restaurante and bar. Felt like a real treat. Plenty of room between tables. Felt Covid safe. The food was excellent and well presented. Attentive waiter service. The evening felt very special.
Amazing experience for our first weekend away together
Marvellous experience, good standard of food with staff showing just the right level of attention. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
Food was subpar relative to past experiences, brought out at wrong time and then heat lamped based on the salad being warm to touch. The room had many flies, two of which found their way into my wife's dinner. I had the filet, my wife had pasta and we had a bottle of Dom with it. My filet was cooked perfectly but the cut had several inedible pieces. Her pasta was a bland disappointment. This was my third time at Poets House, and did not reflect my previous two experiences.
Sunday evening meal for 4 people
First impressions excellent - good safety measures in place for COVID lovely ambience/setting.
Food overpriced grossly and poor - ribeye steak tough and no flavour, beurre blanc on hake had absolutely no seasoning or flavour - would be ashamed if I was the Chef!
Bubble and Squeak cold and likely frozen initially as the onions were tough. Panna Cotta- always a good test - served in a drinks tumbler, thicker than a blancmange actually had to suction from the sides if the glass, again absolutely no taste at all and thick sticky texture - not a panna cotta! Cost £8?!
Very inexperienced waiting team - did not know what English mustard was?
Continual mix ups with drinks orders etc
Hoping the poor quality of food and service was due to being a Sunday evening
We had a lovely anniversary meal here. A nice little anniversary message on our desserts too.
There were a few mistakes to what we had ordered but they had a new member of staff who was still in training. They were quickly put right.
The dining room & food was lovely.
Would love to try lunch or afternoon tea in the garden as it looked lovely outside.
Would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Had a fantastic meal. Service was great with little suprise on dessert.
excellent staff, calm but enthusiastic and cheerful.
Staff were very friendly and professional. Menu choice was limited but our selections were well prepared and tasty.
A friendly welcome and excellent service throughout. Food to a high standard well presented a totally enjoyable dining experience. Looking forward to a return visit and would highly recommend.
Very simple menu, easy for lunchtime pickings. Lovely table outside offered to us, great service from a friendly, efficient and kind Romanian girl with a huge, genuine smile. Lovely atmosphere. Not as ‘fine dining’ as we’d thought, but perfect for a day pottering about in the city. Lovely drinks menu and good choice of cocktails and some nice wines too.
We enjoyed the food although menu was quite limited. Wine was reasonably priced and served at just the right temperature.
The service was very good, even with the Covid restrictions in place.
The food and service was very good, as expected. The restaurant is a very well run establishment.
Food, service and staff were amazing. We were sat in a window neuk area where we felt comfortable and safe, covid restrictions were followed throughout our visit. Hope to return soon.
Bar and food service very prompt, Food was excellent, table spacing was spacious, we felt safe throughout
Having visited the venue the evening before, I was greeted with a 'Hello again, didn't expect to see you so soon'.
A welcome like this is lovely and after checking my reservation, the waiter spoke to me by name. Making the experience very personal and lovely.
So pleased we have a venue like this in Ely.
The menu selection was good, so was the wine selection.
A wonderful atmosphere and very helpful and polite staff. The food was excellent and an issue with a lost wallet was resolved quickly and efficiently. A big thank you to everyone.
A very enjoyable evening and tasty food and good attention. It is a little pricey - so only for a treat!
Lovely restaurant with very nice décor and friendly staff. Only downside was the 10pm last orders for drinks which is ridiculous for a hotel
Went early, service was good, loved the cutlery and the food was delicious. We both had the salmon and cheesecake! Staff very polite and friendly
The meal was very pleasant but not exceptional. There was no bread or pre-starters offered which was a little surprising. There was very little choice of starters - only four plus soup I think, two of which were vegetarian. Slightly more choice of main courses but nothing particularly exciting. The prices were as one might expect. Ambiance was ok, but no doubt somewhat reduced by Covid regulations. In summary, perfectly ok but nothing "to write home about".
Overall we were reasonably satisfied with our dining experience. I ordered the fillet steak. The piece of meat was fat free but was overcooked. I requested medium but it came well done. Not a piece of pink meat which spoilt it for me. We also thought the menu was very restricted for the mains selection, for what we thought was a high standard hotel restaurant. The staff were lovely, very polite, although a little forgetful In getting condiments etc When requested. Your next question is irrelevant as we sat in the garden. Would only recommend if they Could afford it. We thought it expensive for what we had.
The staff were very accommodating when we wanted to be seated inside. Good wine list and the food was of a high standard. A little more expensive than most places but worth it if you are celebrating or wanting something special. The restaurant was clean and there are good hygiene standards and social distancing put in place. Would definitely recommend.
We had to wait for 15 minutes for our order to be taken once we had seated. Cocktails for £11 that were probably 150ml in size is outrageous.
We both had burgers for £17.
Nothing special, no twist or refinement.
Buns were over toasted.
Peroni had ran out on tap.
Very poor service. Poor food for the price.
We will not be returning.
Beautiful sitting in the garden on a gorgeous day. Had chicken platter off the sonnet menu, was delicious as were the sides. One thing would have been nicer for the dips not to have been just out of bottles and made in house. Service was very slow for drinks and when the wine arrived it was not cold enough but as service slow stuck with it. Overall all good food and surroundings.
There was nothing available for children. They beat they could suggest was putting an adult meal between two plates. Very average food. Adequate for a seaside cafe. Nothing special whatsoever.
This is now a very well appointed restaurant in Ely
Well organized, social distancing good, food excellent, service friendly,
Excellent food. Great service with wonderful surroundings
We found the menu limited and uninspiring. As a result, we left and ate elsewhere
Lovely restaurant, nice food and extremely good value. First day of the government scheme, no rushing or being uncomfortably over crowding. Highly recommend.
Had the beef it was beautiful and the pudding the poets house mess you've got to have it was soooo good
Lovely anniversary meal and cocktails. Service was warm and attentive as always. Food was delicious and fresh. Cocktails were on par.
Thanks again :-)
Great food, service and very Reassuring COVID measures. Great work
Understandably there was a little confusion about the Corona guidelines but we found the staff to be helpful and very courteous. The menu was limited - again understandably - but it was more pub food than interesting and we were a little disappointed that it wasn't more imaginative and interesting. £17 for haddock and chips (even though it was nicely presented) is expensive. I have to say that given that it was our first time, I expected better.
Treated like a second class citizen as we were not staying at the hotel. Bill came to over £100 didn’t feel value for money.
It was fir my husb
We had a wonderful Sunday lunch. Good food served by attentive staff who were not intrusive. Very enjoyable experience and we will return!
