The Dirty Habit is a beautiful 13th Century pub situated in the picturesque Kentish village of Hollingbourne. Set on The Pilgrims Way in a designated area of natural beauty, with many walks and bike rides from the pub, it has been used by pilgrims on their way to Canterbury for centuries. It is reputed that King James II stayed at the inn whilst on his way to France via Canterbury and Dover. We offer a varied selection of freshly prepared food all day every day, both traditional English as well as continental specialties using local suppliers whenever possible to support the local farming community. For those special occasions we can offer a private dining service in a beautiful period room 'The Monks Corner' with oak beams to the apex and an inglenook fireplace to set it all off.

Always enjoy a visit to The Dirty Habit. The staff are attentive and friendly and I love the vegan options on the menu. Often visit for lunch after a long walk, but also for special occasions such as birthdays.

Four of us enjoyed a really good evening. Although very busy, the service was very good, the meals delicious and it had great ambiance. A delightful old English pub! My only criticism was that the chairs and bench seating was uncomfortable.

From the moment we arrived at the dirty habit we were greeted with lovely smiling attitude by staff. We arrived early for our booking and nothing was too much trouble. A very nice atmosphere in an a pub with good character.Food was a bit pricey but this is reflected in the quality of the fodd served . even the olives served on our table were extremely good quality and freshly prepaired . i would recommend to anyone that loves good food /

Food was outstanding. Enjoyed our visit. The young lady that served us could have been friendlier. We tipped her £10... still didn’t manage to get a smile out of her. Felt that we were a “nuisance “

This place was brilliant, the food was lovely, we went for Sunday dinner and wow the food was tasty and portions were healthy! I have given a 3 star for ambience only because we were seated next to a table of around 12 who were there for a birthday for a one of the children and so we're extremely loud. If they had not been there I'm sure the ambience would be great. We also went on the shorter of the walks provided by the pub which was very picturesque and allowed us to build up an appetite which was much needed to fit in the great portions.

A very nice pub, lots of nooks and crannies to choose where to sit, inside or out. Pleasant very hard working staff with lots of customers to look after. Food very good, lots of choice for everyone. Huge quantities of food with the Sunday roasts. The vegetables were cooked to perfection. Go on give it a try, you will enjoy it.

Mostly we had a good time and good food (Sunday roast), unfortunately the chicken souvlaki was chicken thigh meat which I dont eat, wish that had been explained beforehand.

I was disappointed with my visit. My duck was quite tough, the menu was very limited and I thought expensive, and not value for money. We visited some years ago and thought the Dirty
Habit was great. Not this time however.

Not been to the Dirty Habit for a good number of years. What a plesent surprise it turned out to be, good food and beer in a very ye olde pub setting.

The service was very friendly although thinly spread during our lunch.

The food was overall good and flavoursome. The Sea Bass was on the rather small size and the fillet steak a little overcooked on the outside for medium rare.

Amazing food me and my partner couldn’t find a single fault! The portions are very very generous and presented spectacularly, try the chicken skews and you will be impressed. The restaurant is on the exsspensive side but you get what you pay for.

A perfect place for enjoying good food and drink before or after walking on the North Downs Way/Pilgrims Way (or before and after if you prefer!). The menu is a great mix of standards and more unusual fare, all presented in imaginative and enticing ways. The range of beers and ciders is excellent and the ambience, indoors and out, is both characterful and relaxing. Walkers are welcome and there is even a range of suggested circular walks of different lengths and difficulty advertised inside. We had a great Sunday lunch in the restaurant area on a day when things were busy but never overpoweringly so. After a splendid walk out and back along the NDW, we returned for long cool drinks outside before heading home. The perfect Sunday outing made all-the-more memorable by the way it began and ended!

Food was good but I wonder why fish and chips is served in a bowl and ice cream is served on a plate. I still prefer it to be the other way around.

I have recommended The Dirty Habit to friends in the past but I feel now I am unable do so.. I have eaten here many times but the last recent meals have been getting sweeter and sweeter.
And have become too sweet.
I have also noticed the meal sizes have become far smaller than before so valve for money has reduced.

I ordered the Rack of Lamb which consisted of three ribs and three potatoes which was finished in under 10 mins and that was still me monitoring that I would finish way before my partners meal. In fact we end up sharing hers .

So on the whole this venue has gone down hill over the last year.. A real shame because I used to really enjoy eating here.

Really nice pub. Came here for a family get together. The food is always good. Everyone enjoyed their meal. I was disappointed that they have ditched the vegan menu and now only offer a couple of option in the normal menu ☹️

Arrived early for our table and were seated straight away, service was great. We had the jamon and olives, and then Korean Chicken wings to start, which were peng. Burger looked excellent, I had Halibut with Pak Choi and Dashi. It was a party in my mouth like no other. Compliments to the chef.

Picked the pub at random as we were staying overnight en route to Eurotunnel and was very pleased with the choice. Lovely location in Hollingbourne, a pretty Kentish village, good food, reasonably priced.

The menu was disappointing. I think the owners are trying too hard to make The Dirty Habit something that it is not. Having to constantly ask the waitress what is this, can you explain this dish to me, was frustrating. The main courses in particular were confusing and it would have been helpful to have an explanation of the dish and the sauces that accompanied them .... but then, should eating out need to be that much hard work. I must say, I have had better meals there, previously.

We were able to be seated early, despite the restaurant being extremely busy. The staff are friendly and polite but not hugely attentive and we did have a wait between plates being collected, dessert orders taken etc, but it was particularly busy so this is understandable. We ordered a Dirty Board to start which was over-priced for what you got, and it was all a bit dry. The beef roast was delicious and not a huge portion so you weren't over -faced, and the chicken skewer was well presented and tasty, as was dessert.

had to ask more than once for a jug of water on the table, not enough bread on the table for four people, the service was slow and below standard in my opinion, have not checked the recommend boxes as not sure whether i would our not. have been a fair few times before and in my opinion standards have dropped.

Really lovely restaurant, serving really good food. Just the waiter that we were disappointed with - wrong starter - exchanged, another wrong starter from the more expensive menu even though the tapas were pointed out on the menu when ordered. The wrong drink served, even though the empty bottle had been taken and the waiter asked same again? He didn't understand a soft drink ordered and said is that cider? Shame, as it took the shine off a lovely evening.

Enjoyed an early evening meal with a friend, with the bonus of 20% discount. The food was very good (pork chop and lamb chops), as was the service and the ambience (generally speaking). The restaurant space is not large, so the table spacing is quite 'intimate' and the bar area is close, which I imagine could be intrusive when busy. The staff were friendly and attentive. The car park is quite small. This was my first visit and I will certainly return.

A really lovely meal, in a great setting.

Maybe it was a busier Sunday than usual (the sun was shining) but the service was a little choppy. Always friendly and cheerful, but some unusually long waits for things like drinks. However, the food was absolutely outstanding a really good value!

Well worth the trip.
