We went there on Saturday, 2-15-20, which was Valentine weekend. The food was outstanding and our server, Adam , was equally as good. Our evening was wonderful and Adam contributed to our very positive and enjoyable dining experience. looking forward to going back!!
We really enjoyed our dinner at The Dorrance. The food was great and the decor was really different. The music they play is also refreshing.
Great place to bring your special someone on any occasion
Excellent meal, delicious from beginning to end. Our server was fantastic, it was like we were the only ones in the room.
Connor was our waiter and very friendly and attentive. We had the calamari as the appetizer and it was outstanding. My wife had the pan seared fish which was cooked perfectly. My scallops were very good too.
Every thing was brought out quickly, service was excellent and the cooks did an outstanding job. We went to The Dorrance last September and the waiter Adam recognized us and chatted with us. He is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the local eateries and he told us about some good breakfast places. He even wrote it down so we wouldn’t forget
Highly recommend this place!
Beautiful building, excellent service, delicious food!
Had an amazing time. Food was fabulous and server Jim was excellent.
We adored our dining experience at the Dorrance. The ambiance was wonderful: gorgeous architecture with high ceilings, white tablecloths, low lighting. The service was impeccable. We had 4 teens in our party and our server asked if they would like a "mocktail" surprise. He brought beautiful drinks and made their evening. The pasta was handmade that very evening--delicious! We felt like royalty. Several times, we received extra treats on the house: potato appetizers, and later chocolate chip cookies. Our waiter was there at just the right moments: not hovering, yet checking in to see if we needed anything. A wonderful experience. We will definitely return!
great place to relax and have a good bottle of wine ( Bordeaux)
A very pleasant waiter.
Visited The Dorrance tonight and enjoyed a 3 course meal as part of Providence Restaurant Week. The food was excellent and well presented. The coq au vin and top sirloin were delicious and a perfect portion size. The service was very good and the pace set for courses by the server was just right. The bread knots and chocolate pastries served at the start and end of the meal compliments of the kitchen were a nice touch. The ambiance and decor were very beautiful with the old bank vault set up as a sitting room, windows with different coat of arms and an intricate ceiling design. Wonderful experience and will definitely dine at The Dorrance again!
Everything was absolutely delicious and the fact that it was restaurant week meant that it was a great value. We loved everything we ordered including a fantastic bottle of Napa Cabernet that was also reasonably priced.
Great experience. Five long-time friends had dinner to celebrate our birthdays. The atmosphere is elegant and is perfect for any special occasion. Our waiter, Conor was outstanding. He immediately made us feel welcome and added to our enjoyment of the evening. He recommended meal selections and was extremely attentive. When our desserts came we were surprised to have birthday candles on each plate. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.
Adam our server was very knowledgeable and even suggested what ended up being delicious dishes on the menu. Great service all the way around. Oysters were fresh, Dorrance burger was a little under cooked for medium well but still tasty enough to consume. All in all, it was a great experience. highly recommended to give this restaurant a try. The ambience in itself is top notch. We will definitely be back! My gf was very pleased on her birthday!-Mike
It was our first visit and our waiter Adam was the only server doing tables. He was superb as he did a fantastic job as he was alone. The Calamari was probably the best we’ve ever had. I had the Lobster pasta which was delicious and my wife had the Char which she enjoyed immensely. The atmosphere and price was great.
Would highly recommend and visit again.
My mother and I dined here on New Year's Eve, at the latest time allowed before you had to buy tickets to the party/entertainment part of the evening. We had never been here before but had kept it in the back of our minds for years and thought that the gorgeous 1920s aesthetic of the restaurant would be perfect to ring in the 2020s, and it was! We chose to sit up on the mezzanine level, which was completely empty! Our waitress Hannah was excellent (and I loved her outfit!). The portions were larger than expected, and the food was absolutely outstanding — I'm still thinking about it! Nearly the whole restaurant oozed a splendid, sophisticated ambiance (the disappointingly plain upstairs bathroom being the one exception).
This is a genuine error on the part of management. Keep the volume level down until 9:45-10:00. You would not lose a single lounge customer but my date and I skipped two 30 dollar large plates because you can’t hear someone one foot away from you. Band is great—-it’s just the timing and volume.
This is my favorite restaurant in providence. We got married here and they remember us every year. The food is always phenomenal.
Go! It’s a great restaurant in a beautiful place - but not at all pretentious. The food was excellent - we had delicious rabbit pasta and perfectly cooked scallops. The server was helpful giving some great suggestions, but did not rush us. They offered us both an amuse guele and a dessert yummy. The wine was delicious and they make a perfect Manhattan!
I love the Dorrance for the atmosphere and dining experience. The food is good and so is the service.
We had a great time at the Dorrance. Although the menu is limited the food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Our waiter Adam, was patient, knowledgeable and entertaining. Highly recommended.
Beautiful building, great atmosphere, food and service
A very enjoyable evening with friends in a beautiful setting. Our server was excellent.
The most outstanding feature of this restaurant is the service. Put it together with great ambience and food, The Dorrance is an experience in itself and a delightful one at that. Very classy place and a great menu. All the menu items are simple. What ends up being on the plate however is quite unique and phenomenal. We LOVED everything we ordered. Special mention to Agnolotti and the cocktail, Mezteca. Also, they gave us a taste of some items we did not order..Roasted Brussels Sprouts and Truffles. Both of these were so so delicious. Overall, a great place and our casual dinner turned out to be very special!
Have dined at The Dorrance several times and each visit has been a pleasure. Loved the scotch cocktail at my latest visit.
I was visiting Providence, and was attracted by the architecture and live music. The Dorrance is in a former banking hall with Art Nouveau windows and stained glass depicting heraldry from famous banks from centuries past. The musicians -- a jazz/funk trio backing a singer -- were first rate.
For cocktails, I ordered (I think) the Mezcal, which was something different and tasted great. Since it was Rhode Island, my appetizer was clams with preserved tomatoes and scallops for the main course, with pineapple sorbet for dessert -- all recommended.
I'll definitely come back the next time I'm in Providence -- The Dorrance is almost worth a special visit.
Our server was fantastic and the food was great. Overall it was a great experience.
The food did not match the beautiful building and wonderful service,
Awesome food! Great service! Music by Joe Davis and the Funky Autocrats!! Fabulous time!
We had one of the best dining experiences of our lives. The atmosphere was delightful. The food was excellent. The service was outstanding due to our server Adam Kelley.
Adam was our waiter and he was excellent! Adam went through the menu to answer any questions. Our appetizers, pumpkin algolinni and calamari were really good. We both pick scallops as our main meal and we’re thrilled. Desserts were really tasty too; the peach desert with ice cream topping was a perfect mix.
Great place to eat!
After somewhat intensive questioning our server we found out their ice machine was broken, therefore our water was lukewarm, the oysters were not on ice and were also warm. Very disappointing experience and we will not be eating there again. Overpriced for the portions and limited menu to have others join us.
Adam was an excellent attentive server and we had a great evening. Scallops were excellent. Beautiful space, great food, lively, will definitely recommend to others.
Came here for anniversary, and it was all-around just bad. The biggest problem was that a wedding party complete with DJ and cheesy wedding music was taking place basically in the same space as the dining room, which was way too loud and annoying. We were not warned about this before going and had we not already ordered, would have walked out. Our steak was fatty, tough, and rare instead of medium rare. Our server was very nice but new and not ready to serve on her own. She couldn't describe cheeses and brought our salads and steak at the same time. Salad was meh instead of what you'd expect at a 'nice' restaurant. Even the valet service was messed up - didn't seem like the fault of the guys working there. The manager did apologize and comp a couple of things, but we still dropped about $75 including tip for a frustrating, negative experience (didn't even order another entree because we just wanted to get out). We couldn't remember a worse dining experience at a place that we expected would be good.
An amazing night. I was nervous when looking at the menu because I had to good most of the ingredients. Even though this was a leap, the food and the service was amazing. What a perfect restaurant for our anniversary.
Our waiter, Elijah was very thorough with explaining the menu items. We loved the ambience of the restaurant as well as the details in maintaining table settings according to every course. The valet attendant was very friendly also. We had a great time!
Service was outstanding- very professional waiter. The rack of lamb, scallops, roast chicken, salmon and homemade pasta were all excellent although we do prefer a spicier Italian style calamari. Finished with fresh berry cobbler and some dairy free ice creams!! Portions were modest but the magnum of French chardonnay was an excellent value and the kitchen surprised us with a few special tastings throughout. All this plus an unusual atmosphere reminiscent of a private club with soaring ceilings and stained glass in the heart of downtown.
The Dorrance is one of our favorite date restaurants in Providence. This was our anniversary night. We were disappointed with the very limited entree selections offered on the base menu. This was supported by the same complaint from the table next to us. Our entrees were the two specials of the night and they were excellently prepared and enjoyable as was our dessert. Our waiter was busy but served us well. A drink at the bar was very enjoyable with fun and attentive bar staff. We will return to hopefully larger entree choices.
Beautiful building with ornate interior finishes. Food was average, menu choices were overall limited and prices were pretty typical for Providence.
This was our second time at The Dorrance- and yet again very impressed! From the moment your greeted to moment you leave the staff here that you like you are part of the family. As for the food every dish is well thought out, prepared and presented. As for the taste - simply marvelous.
Attention to detail does not go unnoticed- one member of our party has a severe nut allergy - our server took note of this and made sure none of the dishes we ordered would be offensive to his needs - not all restaurants give this such thought- so thank you.
We will be back.
