Great venue in a perfect setting on a fine sunny day
The food was fantastic sadly the service was very poor, average at best and very poor for such a highly rated hotel. Definitely wouldn't rush back because of the service. We had to pour our own wine after the someli left, poured own water all night. No atmosphere at all in the hotel, the bar or restaurant they are too up on their Royal Crescent Tower. Go for the food but don't build your expectations too high. Sadly very disappointing. At the end of the meal everyone was so focused on setting up for breakfast we could have vanished they wouldn't have cared.
Afternoon tea far exceeded our expectations, the food was fabulous and the service was first class. We’ve booked a suite for our son and future daughter in law on their wedding night and I’m sure they’ll be thrilled with everything.
Can I give them 6 stars in service?!
My favorite place to dine in Bath. 5* service, food and atmosphere!
We went to a champagne tea for my husband’s birthday while we were in England. What a perfect way to celebrate!!
Amazing atmosphere, with gorgeous decor. If you are looking for a modern twist on a traditional activity - it’s Jane Austen meets modern woman !
The staff were so pleasant and helpful wish I could remember our serves name as he was lovely, as well as being polite and gracious he had character to engage and entertain.
The location is beautiful and their service was very quick for afternoon tea. Staff were very friendly. However found the room feel quite cold and the sandwich bread dry. The second pot of tea also tasted bitter compared to the first, would of liked staff to check and ask about tea more often only asked once.
Wow! Dinner here was an unexpected pleasure. Dishes are superbly conceived, beautifully balanced and brilliantly
executed, using super fresh ingredients. From the bread and amuse bouche onwards, it’s clear this is going to be something special, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Service is quite formal, and not the fastest ever, but the cooking is truly worthy of a Michelin star. Magic!
A really treat .beautiful grounds and very attentive staff . Afternoon tea was a very special experience . The staff were just lovely
Reluctant to write the review The Dower House deserves as it might encourage too many customers and make it difficult to obtain a booking......
Food was middle of the road, not too flavourful. Service was ok, didn’t see them often
Superb high end dining in a fantastic secluded venue behind the famous Bath Crescent. Excellent and attentive staff, delicious food (tasting menu recommended) and great surroundings. A marvelous treat that should be enjoyed by all!
The flavours of the savoury and sandwiches were quite bland. The service was at times confused as we were not served our tea until we had finished our scones. When we asked for the tea we were asked to wait till we had finished it champagne. We were not offered any further savouries or sandwiches, this is not common when we have had afternoon tea previously in other hotels in London
A lovely hotel and restaurant in Bath, UK.! Beautiful gardens and the interior is exceptionally appointed. Tables are spaced nicely so you can have a quiet conversation. Before dinner we went into the bar and ordered a drink. I ordered a French Martini but the bar tender mixed up some concoction with rum , which we overheard him talking about doing . No vodka was used. However I tasted it and accepted the drink anyway, because I like rum and didn't want to make a fuss and spoil our evening. This was unusual for such a fine hotel. A French martini is not an unusual drink to make. Our dinner was French cuisine and beautifully prepared and served by our very cheerful waitress. . We have stayed here before, but tonight we just came for dinner and enjoyed it .Our anniversary was recognized with a beautifrul assortment of candies and cookies and a "Happy Anniversary" written on the plate in chocolate. A very special touch to the evening.
Mother and daughter treat. Lovely setting, good service and delicious afternoon tea. Really nice
Afternoon tea at The Dower House was wonderful. Great value for money - plenty of food all of which was high quality & unlimited tea & coffee. Service was excellent too. Would definitely recommend & would love to go back.
The setting and decor of the restaurant is beautiful. Would have been even nicer on a sunny evening; would have been perfect. We had the set menu and although the food prices are high end this was probably one of the better restaurants with that standard of food for value for money. Staff were excellent. Will definately go again when we've saved up!
We were looking for somewhere rather special for a family dinner which was also a meeting of us as trustees of a trust fund. So the fund subsidised this and we felt we could splash out. The Dower House is a smart restaurant of the old school - service with excellent attention to detail, a menu based on familiar European food and a good but traditional wine list. They do all this very well. It was hard to choose the food, just because it was a menu where you were tempted by almost everything. Of course the cost reflected all this, but it was what we expected and we all enjoyed a really good evening. So why 4 stars not 5? Well perhaps I look for just a bit more adventure in the menu and in the whole experience but maybe that’s not realistic because that’s not what this style of restaurant is aiming for. I may not go again but I’m very glad that I did and felt that they do what they do extremely well.
Afternoon Tea at the Royal Crescent - what a wonderful experience! From the moment we entered, we had a warm welcome and were delighted with the beautiful and comfortable surroundings. Service could not be faulted and the menu was varied and delicious.
The food and service was amazing. The staff were efficient and very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We will definitely be returning. One of our favourite afternoon teas!
Beautiful setting, comfy chairs, exquisite decor, lovely atmosphere. Every mouthful of food was fabulous!
However when you go to hotels like this the service should also be outstanding.
I let them know it was my husbands birthday when I booked they very kindly served our afternoon tea and decorated the plate in chocolate writing which read”Happy Anniversary”!!!
They very kindly asked if we would like some more sandwiches which we accepted, only we waited 20 minutes and had to remind them to bring us more sandwiches.
We were given the bill and although there was only 2 of us we were charged for a 3rd afternoon tea!
When leaving I went to the toilet only to find there was no toilet paper!
Attention to detail just wasn’t there unfortunately ..
Fabulous location and decor. Staff attention to detail superb. Enjoyed night...its a real treat.
We had a gorgeous afternoon tea at The Dower House. We enjoyed the selection of sandwiches and cakes and you could ask for more, if you could fit it in! The gluten free option was the best we have had. Staff were really helpful and helped to make us feel really special.
Beautiful location with glorious gardens
Spacious dining in a beautiful contemporary design
Superb 5* service with 1st class service
Attention to every detail with nothing too much trouble
Food delicious with seasonal variety
Food was extremely sophisticated but not to our taste. Accommodating to vegans however restaurant didn’t have much of a vibe.
A wonderful afternoon tea with a lovely peaceful atmosphere and very courteous staff. Highly recommended.
Fabulous venue , perfect service and amazing food. Although a bit pricey , the setting makes it worth every penny.
We had Afternoon tea in the garden. Party of 3. The food was excellent (we chose the savoury) and the garden a quite and relaxing environment.
The service we experienced however was not at the level fitting to the location and price. The ‘product’ is the whole package: excellent food, great environment and outstanding service.
We were welcomed friendly and politely. However, the cream and preserve were placed at a corner of the table, we put it in the middle. The lady bringing the tea had no clue what was what tea. We had to reshuffle. We got one small saucer to put the 3 (wet) tea leaves holders on. When we got our 2nd round of tea, we were not given new cups, so had to empty what was left in the empty pots (from the first round). Same for the tea leaves holders of the 2nd round of tea. And nothing was removed from the table so it got a bit messy.
And for all that an additional 12.5% service was added to the bill.
Stunning garden venue, service professional but not stuffy, food fresh and tasteful. Great that a savoury alternative was offered to the sweet option. None of my party wanted all the cakes aside from the scone of course! Would without hesitation recommend
Excellent food with friendly and attentive service. We had the a la carte menu which gave a good choice. The food was well presented and delicious. Extensive wine list with good advice available to help you refine your choice. Highly recommended.
Very attentive and friendly staff. Food was delicious with an endless supply of sandwiches, gluten free food wasn’t an issue at all. The weather was beautiful so we were able to sit in the gardens and it was just picture perfect! Very enjoyable experience.
Everything is excellent, the service, the food, the setting, the little attention to details. Possibly one of the best dinning experiences I’ve been lucky enough to experience. Easily surpasses some Michelin star restaurants that I’ve dinned in.
Expensive, yes maybe for Bath, but not for London, but way of example, but you do get what you pay for.
Wonderful location, charming staff and absolutely excellent food. We had a perfect evening.
We had a lovely afternoon in the beautiful grounds of the Royal Crescent Hotel and really enjoyed the delicious tea. We all chose the Royal Crescent Afternoon Tea, which was the savoury option but which still included a Bath bun and scone, jam and cream, as well as a lovely lime flavoured mousse. The savoury selection was unusual and exceptionally tasty!
We are left wondering why Open Table charged our Revolut card 80 pence, which has not been refunded? I'd be grateful to know why.
This was an amazing afternoon and definitely worth the price. Our server was lovely and really friendly
Beautiful gardens fantastic afternoon tea no rush service was good, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The day before we went up to find the hotel to be invited in and looked around and had drinks again beautiful and staff wonderful
Beautiful location, had afternoon tea in the garden, very pretty. Food was delicious and service top notch 🙂
We were in Bath for our wedding anniversary and picked the Dower House for some afternoon tea. I cannot rave about this place enough. We've been to Fortnum & Mason and thought this was better. My partner had the vegan afternoon tea (as he is lactose intolerant) and the staff was so accommodating. The best part about it was being able to sit outside in the gardens with a beautiful view during our meal.
Had a lovely afternoon tea in the beautiful gardens of this amazing hotel! Spent a leisurely two hours taking in the garden setting and we were given personalized and professional service. This being our first visit, it was so memorable! ...
