The Dower House - Royal Crescent Hotel
The Dower House takes an innovative approach to vegetarian dining that embraces its place amongst today’s culinary diversity. We are also able to cater for coeliacs and those with other dietary requirements.
Our famous Afternoon Tea can be served outside in the Hotel’s leafy and secluded gardens accompanied by a selection of exclusive teas from across the world or perhaps a glass of Champagne. There’s something to suit every palette – you can choose from four different Afternoon Teas.
A relaxed dining affair is offered in the social hub of the Hotel at The Montagu Bar & Champagne Lounge, where all day dining is available The Bar’s creative cocktail menu and range of Champagnes offer guests the opportunity to relax and indulge.
We had a lovely afternoon tea for my husband’s birthday. The sandwiches were plentiful and very tasty. I had the vegetarian option. Sometimes sandwiches (esp veggie ones) can be a bit boring but these were lovely. Very attentive staff. Felt very special and ideal for a special treat.
Lovely location, very good food and a very pleasant overall experience.
Hi there I came again to this hotel as I booked 4yrs ago for my sisters hen. I brought my friend with me this time as was so pleased last time. This time I was so disappointed that my friend asked if she could have the chicken, cheese and ham fillings only. Waiter said ok and then standing behind me and my friend said to a colleague that ones a difficult one!!!! I have never experienced anything like this before. I didn’t want to cause a scene there as it was a treat. But I am disgusted. I will be making this all vocal to on social media. You charge a high price for afternoon tea and have the cheek also to put service charge on. This needs to be addressed.
Amazing tasting menu and the service was exceptional
Delicious afternoon tea and excellent service! Amazing choice of teas, gorgeous cakes and savouries. Would definitely come again as a special treat.
It was the experience we were looking for. We discovered new favorite teas. The wait staff were extremely accommodating. We were treated like star guests. The garden was peaceful and beautiful, the perfect place for afternoon tea. They allowed us to split an afternoon tea serving, which was perfect, and that was all we needed.
Perfect setting, perfect service, knowledge staff.
Exactly how you would like a special birthday afternoon tea to be
Excellent afternoon tea with outstanding service. Eating in the garden would be lovely on a sunny day.
Fantastic hotel; Had a Wonderful time; Afternoon tea with a glass of bubbly was a really enjoyable experience in beautiful gardens - Delicious sandwiches and cakes; Chef David was very kind;
Staff were attentive - Highly Recommend the Royal Crescent Hotel - You won't be disappointed.
Everything was outstanding and we has a lovely time.
Although the place is iconic,I was disappointed at the variety of vegetarian options.I thought it was very expensive for what it was.
Birthday treat. Very attentive staff. Delicious food. Cinnamon butter with Bath bun yummy.
Fantastic. A must try.
From the moment we got out of the taxi, we were greeted with warmth. One doorman helped my husband and the other came to my side of the cab to help me out. The service was excellent and exceptional the entire day.
The room where we had tea was quiet elegant. Lovely grays and blues on the walls and chairs. The table was set off with royal blue glassware and white tablecloths. We sat near windows that had a view of the beautiful gardens. The tea was lovely. The small, savory vegetarian choices were delicious and artful.
I highly recommend tea at Hotel Royal Crescent.
Amazing loved it, service was wonderful it was decadence at its best.
Excellent food lovely dining room, bar and lounges, staff were outstanding especially Sonia and Luke. Would highly recommend a visit.
Here's my Trip Advisor review of a delightful high tea at The Royal Crescent Hotel here in my adopted city of Bath:
The highest of high teas
"Treated my old friend Wendy to high tea. It ain't cheap, but by golly you gets what you pays for. It's a beautiful setting, the staff are exquisitely attentive, and the food - the food! - all hand-made on the premises (when the folks at the next table asked for scones, they were advised "They're not quite ready yet"). A lovely range of sandwiches, then a saffron yogurt and a selection of amuse-bouches, then a scone and a Bath bun accompanied by jam, cream and an unusual but lovely cinnamon foam, and finally a deliciously sharp lime curd. Under other circumstances one might feel a bit icky after so much sweet stuff, but not here; the ingredients are too classy for that, with a refreshing absence of additives. If I could afford to, I'd go there weekly and sit there reading a newspaper as if this were the most normal thing in the world, which it isn't. Very highly recommended, and an occasion worth getting dressed up for. Wendy proposes to treat me in about four months' time, and I concur."
Lovely people and also very nice to kids! The garden is beautiful and the ambiance is great!
A lovely experience in beautiful surroundings. The staff were exceptional in making the evening a special experience and were very knowledgeable about the wine and the food. The food however good was lacking in flavour at times which perhaps is why there is no michelin star. We had the tasting menu which was good value for money and was presented beautifully. We were allowed time between courses if we wished and did not feel rushed at all. Overall a very enjoyable evening was spent.
Best gluten and dairy free afternoon tea i have had!!! absolutely delicious from start to finish. service was impeccable, if anything maybe a tad too over attentive. Kids loved every part of it. as did the usually fussy hubby
Came here last minute as a treat. A very warm welcome from staff and it was lovely to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink whilst looking over the menu.
We ordered our food whilst still at the bar, and then were seen by the sommelier to give advice on the wine based on our choices. He suggested very well!
It took a little while from being seated to having any bread bought out, but when it did, it was very tasty. The restaurant was very quiet, a bit too much so, so we felt we had to speak in quite hushed tones. We sat down at 7:20 and by 7:40 there were more diners in so the atmosphere picked up.
Food was very good, we had 2 courses for £50, which with the added amuse bouche and the petit fois, was a very filling meal and reasonable value for the quality.
I would recommend this for a special occasion, and ask for a table with a garden view.
Superb meal, fabulous presentation and very helpful and attentive service from all the team.
Wonderful meal ,excellent service and such a beautiful setting....
This little gem of a place is something very special not found elsewhere - has to be one of the best restaurants I have ever visited
This is one of our favourite venues for afternoon tea. The service is excellent and the food superb. Even though the ambiance may not quite match that of some of the top London hotels, it was worth travelling from London to Bath to experience afternoon tea at the Dower House.
We had the regular and vegetarian Tasting menus. Both were excellent and the staff were quietly attentive. Ambience was just right for us - smart but not overly trendy. A superb experience.
As a treat for Mother's Day I booked myself and my Mum an Afternoon Tea experience at the Hotel.
The best by far I've ever had. Lovely venue. Fantastic food. Outstanding service.
Hopefully I will return again one day.
Really lovely staff. The sandwiches were amazing and you could get unlimited amounts. Really enjoyed the experience :-)
We had afternoon tea at this hotel and had a lovely time. The food was very good and I could not fault the service. It was very much worth the money. You did have a choice of having the regular afternoon tea or a savoury one. Next time Iam in bath I would definitely come back, or I may even stay.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary here. The food, service and ambiance was amazing. We highly recommend this place!
Superb! Will be going again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Dower House. The staff were professional and courteous and made us feel comfortable. They missed out on a few opportunities with us though, we would have loved to have the cheese board as an addition to the taster menu, we would have taken the desert wine option too, but they forgot to follow up with us, despite the interest we had shown at the beginning of our evening. It would also be nice to see an option of a wine flight with the taster menu.
20th Wedding Anniversary
Lovely atmosphere and great service. Would recommend!
Restaurant was nice food was disappointing, the flavours were average not well balanced. The overall experience was average the presentation was okay. It’s a typical hotel restaurant which is really unfortunate given it’s amazing location.
Fabulous food, great presentation and ambience, impeccable service. Beautiful setting too, great Georgian architecture. 5 stars!
The service was incredible, in a beautiful building and the best food I’ve had in a long time. There was a pianist who played beautifully. Can’t commend highly enough
Superb service, wonderful food - a lovely experience.
We stopped in the restaurant earlier in the day to verify that the chef could accommodate my food allergies.
Sadly, the fish I had hoped for was not available that day, but we didn't know until we were seated.
Overall, the service was fabulous...somewhat of a ballet of duties, but what one expects of a Michelin restaurant. My allergies were accommodated and my husband enjoyed his conversations with the sommelier. Our server was delightful.
Overall, despite a wait to be seated, it was a wonderful experience I would recommend to anyone looking for a cultured dining experience.
My husband and I decided to treat ourselves to afternoon tea at The Dower House for my birthday and it certainly didn't disappoint! The choice of both sweet and savoury options were excellent and we decided to have one of each. The food was exceptional, delicious melt in the mouth morsels. There was a large selection of teas to try, with coffee and champagne if preferred. The service was fantastic. Every single staff member was very attentive to our needs at all times and made our experience feel special. The surroundings were beautiful. We would thoroughly recommend The Dower House to others for an indulgent and luxurious afternoon tea experience.
