I booked a table in the garden for my partners 50th birthday lunchtime treat, it lived up to my expectations and more, the garden was lovely and the food was simply delicious, it made for an excellent afternoon in the sunshine. I wouldn't hesitate booking a table again on my return to Bath.

Came for a birthday dinner my only complaint was there was no background music and the restaurant was so quite it had a strange feeling. No buzz and was conscious of everything we were saying as others in room could easily hear.

We were very lucky with the weather, so eating in the garden was a joy. The service was a bit on the slow side, but we weren't in a hurry, so it didn't affect us. The little tasting bits as starters were very tasty and beautifully presented. The mussels were superb. While not cheap, it was excellent value for the money.

Due to COVID-19 the menu was restricted.
The ambience was very quiet, last time we were there, you could hear background music.

Attentive service
Well executed dishes but nothing outstanding to live long in the memory.
Disappointing no wine flight to go with tasting when serving by the glass...?

Sommelier good but should cover nose as well as mouth with face mask!

Great to be back out in a great setting enjoyable night for both

Having waited 8 months to redeem our gift voucher to celebrate a special occasion, we were very disappointed to find that the afternoon tea menu has been stripped back to two options, with the fantastic "savoury" option now gone.

The net result of this was that, after consuming so much sugar, diabetes was only just around the corner!

To make matters worse, there was a party of six in the middle of the room who were going heavy on the champagne and became loud and obnoxious, with little regard for anyone else's comfort and enjoyment.

Obviously this wasn't the fault of the Dower House however, the staff was clearly aware that these guests were causing a bit of a disturbance, yet did nothing about it.

To top it all of, the staff was wearing face masks, but under their noses!

All in all, the food was OK, but nothing more than OK. The sandwiches were bland, and the cakes were nice, but I feel that you could get a better afternoon tea in any of the lovely cafes in town, plus a BOTTLE of champagne, and still come away with change in your pocket.

This was our fourth visit to Dower House, but this time was a big disappointment. Until now, everything had always been perfect, but I'm very sad to say that I would think twice before returning.

The menu was described as ‘all day dining’ which did not have the special feel for an evening dinner. However the dishes were excellent and the service friendly. The room lacked a little atmosphere, perhaps related to the social distancing. Good value thanks to the chancellor.

Food was good but service very disconnected. No-one welcoming on arrival and over 30 mins between arriving and getting any drinks or food whilst other tables arriving after were served. One excellent waitress but seemed to be no communication between staff and most of the other waiters (and there were a lot!)seemed to be wandering and avoiding eye contact whilst doing very little. This led to confusion over our orders and bill - given an apology that our wine wasn't delivered because the bartender was making cocktails yet we never saw a cocktail menu!

Also for a resraurant that has such an extensive wine list it is very odd not to say what the wines by the glass were except the grape, mostly at £10ish for a 125ml glass. The Riesling I had tasted distinctively like one I have bought cheaper by the bottle.

So it's a nice enough place but we left with a feeling of disorder about the place rather than luxury. We were there for around 90 mins, half of which was spent waiting at the start or sorting out the problems with the bill at the end.

Might be good if you physically fit their ideal demographic.

First question on arrival to the restaurant was a condescending “how can I help you?” as though we were lost.

Cold and hostile service, apart from one female server who was friendly and chatty.

Given a different vintage of wine to what was on the menu with no explaination or apology until we asked.

Food was great but difficult to enjoy as service left a bitter taste.

Only two other tables occupied from 20:30 to close and it’s pretty clear why.

Would not recommend.

The chef is very talented, some of the food combinations on the degustation menu were inspired and all worked beautifully. I felt it was one of the more deeply accomplished menu I have ever tasted, and I have ate at some great places. The service was excellent, very discrete and not overly attentive like some top-class restaurants can be, it was a perfect balance of pleasant and professional waiting staff. The sommelier was also excellent, and he chose an excellent wine to pair with the degustation menu, which is a tricky thing to do. It's not a low-cost meal, but it does represent good value as it was a real gastronomic experience. I have no hesitation in recommending The Dower House if you appreciate innovative cuisine.

Good ambience outside in the garden, friendky staff, but food order not fully delivered, vegetarian options did not include risotto and generally food felt a bit ordinary on this occasion. However, I understand they had a busy cream tea afternoon and were still recovering.
Will go back of course.

Lovely setting and food/drinks and while the service staff were lovely and friendly, we were often left waiting half an hour for drinks and things like the tea with the afternoon tea never even arrived. Would certainly visit again, maybe we just hit an off day.

Booked a table indoors and was sat outside in partial sun - 38 degrees. Server came every few minutes after we sat down asking if we hd decided - felt a bit rushed. Thereafter got a bit ignored and had to keep asking for drinks.

We were seated in the beautiful garden but the service was slow and indifferent. Aperitif Drinks didn’t arrive, then when someone came close enough to chase the order they came at the same time as the wine and the food. A significant substitute was made to a sharing dish - a baghi for a kofta, unexplained and I can’t eat them. Then were given cheese cake instead of a cheese plate. The menu was no more than a posh bar meal offer. Kept reduced because of Covid allegedly but that wasn’t the offer in this site. Although we hadn’t gone for the eat out to help out deal (- £20 is irrelevant in this restaurant) the bill was presented without it, we were so fed up by then we asked for it to be deducted as well as the service charge. Which was done but no manager came to enquire why. We felt as though we were an afterthought with a 9pm reservation (only one available) what was supposed to be a holiday highlight was simply disappointing.
I would not return.

The hotel is amazing fantastic service, but was a bit disappointed as we had booked online for afternoon tea at 12.30 only to be told once there that the afternoon tea service starts after 1.30! Saying that we opted for the mussels which were exquisite.

I originally booked for our daughters 30th birthday in March , but it was cancelled due to lockdown . As soon as you re-opened I booked it again .We were so looking forward to our visit last Saturday and had heard nothing but fantastic reviews . I am sad to say and maybe it is due to coronavirus that the sevice was disappointingly poor , so sorry to have to say this :(
