The Dower House - Royal Crescent Hotel
The Dower House takes an innovative approach to vegetarian dining that embraces its place amongst today’s culinary diversity. We are also able to cater for coeliacs and those with other dietary requirements.
Our famous Afternoon Tea can be served outside in the Hotel’s leafy and secluded gardens accompanied by a selection of exclusive teas from across the world or perhaps a glass of Champagne. There’s something to suit every palette – you can choose from four different Afternoon Teas.
A relaxed dining affair is offered in the social hub of the Hotel at The Montagu Bar & Champagne Lounge, where all day dining is available The Bar’s creative cocktail menu and range of Champagnes offer guests the opportunity to relax and indulge.
It was just wonderful to be waited on and dined for in this 5* hotel. The service of Sonia was impeccable and nothing was ever too much for her. It was my mum’s 50th present and she loved every minute. Thank you for a pleasant experience
The food was incredible. The staff were tentative and caring. The atmosphere was perfect. The wine selection was on point.
Cant wait to eat there again.
Whilst the whole experience at the Dower house was enjoyable and the staff were lovely, we did not enjoy the taster menu as much as we had hoped to. It was very heavy and in particular the " full English breakfast" was based on a large Ducks egg which was very overpowering. A smaller, less yolky egg would have been much more suitable for the course and less filling. Also, whilst the bartender was very amenable to making whatever cocktail you requested, they need to up their presentation skills for £16 per cocktail! Compared to other establishments which charge substantially less for a cocktail, the presentation was very unimpressive. Guests now expect unusual glasses, dry ice and an "experience" when presented with their cocktail. The Dower house made very little effort in this regards.
The meal was a good 7 out of 10, but we were left feeling disappointed when we left, as we asked for a taxi back to the priory and were told we would have to wait nearly an hour. So we asked if they would ring another taxi, but were told no.
We were then ushered out into the cold. Definitely wouldn’t have had that at the Priory.
We walked in from a Christmas frenzy Bath Saturday afternoon and thought that we had gone deaf! The peaceful difference was stunning, wow. The service and food was fantastic, the ambiance wonderful and the overall experience grand, thank you.
We tried 2 different afternoon teas - the Traditional and Vegetarian with Rose Champagne. Outstanding quality and I’ll definitely be booking again. The staff were helpful and friendly and we had a fabulous relaxing afternoon. Thank you to the team at The Dower House - a very special place !
For special occasion this is an amazing experience. In my opinion far superior to The Ritz in London. The savoury afternoon tea option was such a pleasant option.
A delightful evening, exquisite food and lovely atmosphere. Thank you
"I love the relaxed feel of this place. I definitely would return . The taster menu was amazing. We loved the Lamb dish. Service was well-timed and friendly”
One of the best afternoon teas I have had - particularly liked the choice of a traditional or savoury tea. Excellent welcome and service throughout and a lovely setting. We will be back!
The food was of a very high standard and the setting was lovely. My only negative was that some of the sandwiches were a little dry around the edges - apart from that it was delicious!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea and the nice touch with the ‘Happy Birthday’ written in chocolate on one of the serving plates! The food was lovely as was the champagne and tea! The service was efficient and slick without being intrusive. Our only minor complaint was the rather tacky plastic water container on the table covered in limescale on the neck! No glass water flasks??
Excellent afternoon tea both the vegetarian and non vegetarian savoury teas were utterly delicious. One of the best we have ever had and we have eaten at some really lovely hotels. Highly recommend!
Outstanding service, and they made the sandwiches to my picky taste ! Excellent scones .....and they made my coffee strong as I like it., oh.....and of course the Tattinger Champagne was lovely....... Fabulous... will definitely return.
Fantastic not our first visit and won't be our last
We visited The Dower House Sunday 13th Oct. It was a horrible day outside.
However it all changed on our visit.
We were made to feel very welcome.
I had a lovely cocktail my Husband a beer
followed by our superb lunch .
The staff were courteous and on the ball at all times.
Throughout our meal they checked to make sure we were happy.
On paying the bill they said they hoped that we will return soon!!
All of which often forgets to be said.
They are the things that make a difference to ones experience.
Very disappointed with the service. Brought the wrong selection of food then took 20 minutes to bring the correct selection. By then tea was cold and had to be replaced, more delay. Very little attention given to us so it felt a struggle to ask for more teas or sandwiches. This was supposed to be a birthday treat, very disappointing.
A beautiful location and room. Very friendly and helpful staff. Savoury afternoon tea was excellent, you could ask for more if you felt their wasn't enough.
Amazing food, great service, highly recommended. Great sommelier with superb choice of wine matches.
Would be nice to have warmer lighting and not clear other tables before we’d finished eating. Didn’t spoil the experience but would improve it.
Lovely food, and service was attentive and efficient. Lots of choice in tea which we particularly enjoyed. Choice between sweet and savoury which was nice.
I felt it was expensive for what it was, especially when they added the 12.5% service charge which meant we paid almost £45 each
The savoury afternoon tea is amazing. Pricey but worth it. Beautiful venue and lovely staff.
Everything was splendid apart from the Sweet Delicacies. These were indeed extremely sweet and although I only sampled a small bite of each. I had a very upset stomach
The food was mediocre at best (skip the coal mayo on the cucumber—awful!). The room in which it is served felt and looked like a Marriott conference room. It was a disappointment as opposed to a special event. We have tea everywhere we go all over the world. This one ranks at the bottom.
Our forth visit to the restaurant and this was surprisingly the worst
The service was poor with no presentation or welcoming attitude
Instead of the staff being discreet they hung around starring like hawks
Very sorry to have to write such a poor review after past excellent experiences
Great venue in a perfect setting on a fine sunny day
The food was fantastic sadly the service was very poor, average at best and very poor for such a highly rated hotel. Definitely wouldn't rush back because of the service. We had to pour our own wine after the someli left, poured own water all night. No atmosphere at all in the hotel, the bar or restaurant they are too up on their Royal Crescent Tower. Go for the food but don't build your expectations too high. Sadly very disappointing. At the end of the meal everyone was so focused on setting up for breakfast we could have vanished they wouldn't have cared.
Afternoon tea far exceeded our expectations, the food was fabulous and the service was first class. We’ve booked a suite for our son and future daughter in law on their wedding night and I’m sure they’ll be thrilled with everything.
Can I give them 6 stars in service?!
My favorite place to dine in Bath. 5* service, food and atmosphere!
We went to a champagne tea for my husband’s birthday while we were in England. What a perfect way to celebrate!!
Amazing atmosphere, with gorgeous decor. If you are looking for a modern twist on a traditional activity - it’s Jane Austen meets modern woman !
The staff were so pleasant and helpful wish I could remember our serves name as he was lovely, as well as being polite and gracious he had character to engage and entertain.
The location is beautiful and their service was very quick for afternoon tea. Staff were very friendly. However found the room feel quite cold and the sandwich bread dry. The second pot of tea also tasted bitter compared to the first, would of liked staff to check and ask about tea more often only asked once.
Wow! Dinner here was an unexpected pleasure. Dishes are superbly conceived, beautifully balanced and brilliantly
executed, using super fresh ingredients. From the bread and amuse bouche onwards, it’s clear this is going to be something special, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Service is quite formal, and not the fastest ever, but the cooking is truly worthy of a Michelin star. Magic!
A really treat .beautiful grounds and very attentive staff . Afternoon tea was a very special experience . The staff were just lovely
Reluctant to write the review The Dower House deserves as it might encourage too many customers and make it difficult to obtain a booking......
Food was middle of the road, not too flavourful. Service was ok, didn’t see them often
Superb high end dining in a fantastic secluded venue behind the famous Bath Crescent. Excellent and attentive staff, delicious food (tasting menu recommended) and great surroundings. A marvelous treat that should be enjoyed by all!
The flavours of the savoury and sandwiches were quite bland. The service was at times confused as we were not served our tea until we had finished our scones. When we asked for the tea we were asked to wait till we had finished it champagne. We were not offered any further savouries or sandwiches, this is not common when we have had afternoon tea previously in other hotels in London
A lovely hotel and restaurant in Bath, UK.! Beautiful gardens and the interior is exceptionally appointed. Tables are spaced nicely so you can have a quiet conversation. Before dinner we went into the bar and ordered a drink. I ordered a French Martini but the bar tender mixed up some concoction with rum , which we overheard him talking about doing . No vodka was used. However I tasted it and accepted the drink anyway, because I like rum and didn't want to make a fuss and spoil our evening. This was unusual for such a fine hotel. A French martini is not an unusual drink to make. Our dinner was French cuisine and beautifully prepared and served by our very cheerful waitress. . We have stayed here before, but tonight we just came for dinner and enjoyed it .Our anniversary was recognized with a beautifrul assortment of candies and cookies and a "Happy Anniversary" written on the plate in chocolate. A very special touch to the evening.
