Absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The food was fabulous and the wine also. A special mention must be given to Sonia who made the whole evening a delight with her expert knowledge and discreet attentiveness. A definite must for a special occasion, we’ll definitely be back.
Wonderful welcome and great service throughout. Arguably on the pricey side but I guess you pay for the tick in the box?!
Excellent food and service in a lovely setting - and the first time I’ve had the option of a set vegetarian afternoon tea with a range of tasty bites (rather than simply substituting meat-filled sandwiches with the standard meat-free ones). We’ll be back!
A lovely hotel in a great location, the food, the service and the champagne were all of a very high standard. Would definitely wish to come again.
We love the hotel and the Dower House. And especially the garden in summer
Amazing food , we both had tasting menus , my wife’s vegan
Staff were attentive, but , not uncomfortably so . Great for a special occasion , but , a bit pricey
We had a fabulous experience, I requested gluten free options and the choices were wonderful. I highly recommend high tea at the Dower House to everybody!!!!
Beautiful venue for our daughters 21st great food and service
We had a great afternoon tea at the Dower House. Will definitely go again.
Great service, friendly staff, enjoyed the dinner and will be visiting again soon.
What an excellent experience! Service beyond reproach, choice on the menu excellent and the food we ordered was superb!
The service is above acceptional and the food is fantastic. A fantastic venue for a special dinner.
We had a wonderful meal here and the service from maître d' Sonia was impeccable. A truly wonderful evening.
Wine was great. Service good but also with friendliness and humour. Didn't have dessert, as nothing seemed to stand out. Starter portions surprisingly decent portions. Location is obviously outstanding. All in all very lovely meal!
Such attentive staff and lovely atmosphere. We had afternoon tea facing the gardens and it was so pleasant and would recommend to anyone!
The food was very good but service for 5 star hotel was not what I have experince in the past at previous places. No one come to see if you wanted more or tea or water after meal sat there very long time I went up to ask for the bill if the sevice was better it would been great experince.
Lovely experience. Very gracious and warm service
Smart place, knowledgeable staff, good food. Cocktails followed by wine and 3 course meal, more expensive than most places but to be expected.
I went there for afternoon tea and it was really good. As I don't like all this sweets i ordered The Royal Crescent Afternoon Tea.. Also the cozy room with fireplace was all I needed. The place itself is amazing with beautiful garden. The only rain stopped me from discovering a bit more of it.
Good things: Good food and lots of it. Extra pot of tea provided when asked. Doggy bag offered to take home what we couldn't eat.
Not so good: Not met at the entrance to Hotel. Rather casual showing to (booked) table which was in a corner in a rather corporate sort of room.
Overall: This was a special event and unfortunately the hotel failed to produce a "wow factor". A bit more service - we wanted to be treated as special (even if we aren't) - would have gone a long way.
It was just wonderful to be waited on and dined for in this 5* hotel. The service of Sonia was impeccable and nothing was ever too much for her. It was my mum’s 50th present and she loved every minute. Thank you for a pleasant experience
We had afternoon tea .Food wasn't too bad but not much for 2 people. We didn't like the restaurant as it was a Christmas period and there wasn't even a Christmas tree inside, not many pictures on walls, very basic and poor, gloomy walls...didn't feel festive period. The only good thing was that it was clean. Certainly wouldn't recommend to go there at Christmas time..
The food here is amazing. Tasty, beautiful and veggie friendly. The only thing that disappointed was the atmosphere. The hotel had beautiful Christmas decorations and trees but there was nothing in the afternoon tea room. Some low level festive music (not talking shaken Steven's but some carols) and a few decorations would have made a festive treat.
The food was incredible. The staff were tentative and caring. The atmosphere was perfect. The wine selection was on point.
Cant wait to eat there again.
Whilst the whole experience at the Dower house was enjoyable and the staff were lovely, we did not enjoy the taster menu as much as we had hoped to. It was very heavy and in particular the " full English breakfast" was based on a large Ducks egg which was very overpowering. A smaller, less yolky egg would have been much more suitable for the course and less filling. Also, whilst the bartender was very amenable to making whatever cocktail you requested, they need to up their presentation skills for £16 per cocktail! Compared to other establishments which charge substantially less for a cocktail, the presentation was very unimpressive. Guests now expect unusual glasses, dry ice and an "experience" when presented with their cocktail. The Dower house made very little effort in this regards.
The meal was a good 7 out of 10, but we were left feeling disappointed when we left, as we asked for a taxi back to the priory and were told we would have to wait nearly an hour. So we asked if they would ring another taxi, but were told no.
We were then ushered out into the cold. Definitely wouldn’t have had that at the Priory.
We walked in from a Christmas frenzy Bath Saturday afternoon and thought that we had gone deaf! The peaceful difference was stunning, wow. The service and food was fantastic, the ambiance wonderful and the overall experience grand, thank you.
We tried 2 different afternoon teas - the Traditional and Vegetarian with Rose Champagne. Outstanding quality and I’ll definitely be booking again. The staff were helpful and friendly and we had a fabulous relaxing afternoon. Thank you to the team at The Dower House - a very special place !
For special occasion this is an amazing experience. In my opinion far superior to The Ritz in London. The savoury afternoon tea option was such a pleasant option.
A delightful evening, exquisite food and lovely atmosphere. Thank you
"I love the relaxed feel of this place. I definitely would return . The taster menu was amazing. We loved the Lamb dish. Service was well-timed and friendly”
One of the best afternoon teas I have had - particularly liked the choice of a traditional or savoury tea. Excellent welcome and service throughout and a lovely setting. We will be back!
The food was of a very high standard and the setting was lovely. My only negative was that some of the sandwiches were a little dry around the edges - apart from that it was delicious!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea and the nice touch with the ‘Happy Birthday’ written in chocolate on one of the serving plates! The food was lovely as was the champagne and tea! The service was efficient and slick without being intrusive. Our only minor complaint was the rather tacky plastic water container on the table covered in limescale on the neck! No glass water flasks??
Excellent afternoon tea both the vegetarian and non vegetarian savoury teas were utterly delicious. One of the best we have ever had and we have eaten at some really lovely hotels. Highly recommend!
Outstanding service, and they made the sandwiches to my picky taste ! Excellent scones .....and they made my coffee strong as I like it., oh.....and of course the Tattinger Champagne was lovely....... Fabulous... will definitely return.
Fantastic not our first visit and won't be our last
We visited The Dower House Sunday 13th Oct. It was a horrible day outside.
However it all changed on our visit.
We were made to feel very welcome.
I had a lovely cocktail my Husband a beer
followed by our superb lunch .
The staff were courteous and on the ball at all times.
Throughout our meal they checked to make sure we were happy.
On paying the bill they said they hoped that we will return soon!!
All of which often forgets to be said.
They are the things that make a difference to ones experience.
Very disappointed with the service. Brought the wrong selection of food then took 20 minutes to bring the correct selection. By then tea was cold and had to be replaced, more delay. Very little attention given to us so it felt a struggle to ask for more teas or sandwiches. This was supposed to be a birthday treat, very disappointing.
