The Drapers Arms
The Drapers Arms is a lovely 1830s pub in a residential area of Islington
Very much a pub we are as welcoming to one person sitting with a beer and a paper as to a group having a special meal. In an informal and relaxing atmosphere we nonetheless take our food, drink and service seriously.
Our food is all freshly prepared and our menu changes every day and across the seasons. With a focus on being enjoyable, honest and seasonal we are also affordable - our wine list available on our website is among the very best in London.

One of my favourite pubs for eating at in London since 2007. Always high quality cooking and multiple attractive options to choose from. Very rare to be this consistently good over such a sustained period.
The manager is incredibly rude, it wasn’t only our party of people he was rude too. Apparently it was to other tables. Ruined the whole evening and won’t be coming back or recommending it to anyone.
Lovely pub with great decor. Comfortable atmosphere and delicious food. Definitely worth a visit with friends for a relaxing evening out.
Loved it - great food, wine, service and atmosphere - already planning the next trip !!
Excellent food and wines with a knowledgeable waiter who gave us good recommendations. Excellent locally brewed beer from the Caledonean brewery and a quiet atmosphere which enabled the three of us to converse freely.
I have booked for dinner next month.
V good roast. Great service. Nice setting
The food was delicious, from the sunday roast to the dessert, and the service exceptional. Everybody working there was really nice and smiley. Overall great experience. Would highly recommend.
Good service. Good food. Poor acoustics made it too noisy for us to enjoy the meal.
very good food, and roast beef was cooked to perfection.
very expensive, but just about worth it
Top quality food in a relaxed environment, with lovely staff and an amazing wine list.
Great food, lovely service. Had forgotten how noisy it can be, especially with so many hard surfaces. Everybody seemed to be shouting at each other!
We’d booked the garden, but on arrival we were told it had some large kitchen equipment there, rather diminishing the ambience. So we ate inside, and the noise level, especially from an adjacent table of about ten voluble men, was unpleasantly high.
That said, the service was very pleasant, and the food, as usual, was delicious. I particularly liked the sprouting broccoli and pumpkin starter.
I would say the Sunday roast gravy sauce wasn't really tasty , and the condiments like the side is very little.
Nice relaxed pub but better for a lively drink with friends and dog rather than a special meal for two.
Food was absolutely excellent as always. Service was great til we got a bit forgotten about at the end and had to go to the bar to pay the bill. We had a table in the garden which started out feeling a bit chaotic with a big table next to us and lots of kids, but it got a little quieter and more chilled after they left. Garden was kind of noisy ambient, nice atmosphere.
We went to the Drapers Arms with our pup Gypsy for a weekday birthday dinner.
The fact that the venue is so dog friendly was an instant bonus.
But what really stands out here is the food. We started with the mussels in an 'nduja sauce, and while I spilled the sauce all over myself, it was worth it for every single last drop. Could have easily dipped a whole loaf of bread in that sauce and the mussels were cooked perfectly. We also had an order of the shrimp with the garlic aioli which was lovely.
The mains - burned aubergine with whipped feta and duck... Impeccable. Absolutely outstanding.
Overall, from the friendly and accommodating staff to the delicious food, 10/10 would recommend.
A great pub, wonderful garden setting, attentive service and very good food
Food and service has really gone downhill. A shame as used to be a great pub for lunch
Staff were really friendly and helpful. Had a great table by an open window which was great.
Had a lovely time. We were well looked after and the bream was great!
Good roast dinner wish there was better set menu options although and more options for non meat eaters
Has the Sunday roast which was nice, maybe a bit overpriced as the portion was quite small and I’m sure the roast potatoes were frozen!
Staff friendly and professional , choice of food good, interesting changing menu, always good to come here !
Hake and lentils was delicious as was the chicken pie. Well cooked tasty English fare
Good choice on the menu with friendly and attentive service , the food was delicious . We did wait around 45 minutes for our mains to arrive. The pub is delightful, a real Georgian gem but the back dining room was dark and noisy and the toilets need a good clean.
Great food and great venue just off the beaten path in the Angel area
Outstanding as always, food was excellent (particularly the Rib of Beef roast) and service was great as always.
We ordered the forerib of beef which says between 2/3 people. Firstly, on the menu we were given its listed as £72 but online it was £65 which is quite a difference. Then we ordered it medium rare and it came rare so we had to send it back. Also for 3 people there really wasnt enough meat nor veggies. Its really for 2 people not 3 and i wish they told us that as we would have ordered individual roasts instead. Or they could have put more veggies on the plate. Although tasty, we left a little hungry which is not what you expect when you spend £24pp on a roast. We ordered coffee and there was an issue with the machine so they said we had to wait 20 mins, instead we left and went to get some bites and coffee elsewhere.
I was really looking forward to to the roast and was left disappointed. The staff were friendly and professional.
The venue was nice, the servers were very busy but we didn’t have to wait to long. The food was ok but not great thus overpriced. We had a nice time though.
Outstanding food, seasonal and well thought through menu. The difficulty was deciding what to have as it all looked so enticing! Skate and hake were particular stabs outs but all delicious.
Great food and attentive service - we really enjoyed our meal!
We booked for dinner thinking we'd be upstairs as normal. When we arrived it became obvious we were seated downstairs as there was function on upstairs. We hadn't been informed of this when we booked and we wouldn't have come if we'd known as the pub area is usually very noisy and busy. The service was extremely slow (we waited nearly half an hour to be even asked what we wanted to drink and an hour for our main courses to arrive). Two main courses were cold and one guest couldn't eat hers as a result but she couldn't bear to wait any longer for a new plate. So all she had was a few chips and a spoonful of veg. A complaint was met with the attitude of 'we're really busy' and the server was pretty defensive. If they were short staffed due to Covid all they had to do when we sat down was to say things might be a little slow and to bear with them, which would have been understandable. But they didn't say anything even when we complained so I can only assume they had overstretched themselves and Covid had nothing to do with it. If you have a function on don't accept bookings you can't service properly. We were given money off to compensate but we won't be back. Shame, as it could have been handled so well right from the start to set expectations but it wasn't.
The food is good, but pretty overpriced for a pub. The decor of the is in desperate need of some TLC, especially the toilets. When you are being charged restaurant prices for food you would expect restaurant level decor to match it.
Delicious and hearty roast in a buzzy setting. Cracking stuff for a slow Sunday
Food was awful, had to be sent back. They did take off all Food from bill but wouldn’t come back
Good food nice atmosphere, service was a bit slow but then there was a Wedding Reception in the other bar!
Food was tasty and fairly priced, though somewhat unadventurous. Service was pretty mediocre- slow, distracted, we felt ignored for decent periods of time. Good neighbourhood spot.
Service was a bit slow, but they managed this with us proactively and we will definitiely go back. Food great.
It’s a lovely pub and the Sunday lunch menu looked pretty good, but unfortunately two of the dishes are only available for two or more people so if you’re dining with vegetarians as I was, the chicken and beef are off limits. The food was nice and good there were two vegetarian options, but my lamb was a bit fatty and the food wasn’t very warm. Very efficient and friendly service.
bit disappointing, food wasn't great and was quite expensive. Inside didn't seem that clean.
