The Drapers Arms
Very much a pub we are as welcoming to one person sitting with a beer and a paper as to a group having a special meal. In an informal and relaxing atmosphere we nonetheless take our food, drink and service seriously. Well chosen and carefully tended ales (Harveys Sussex and two on rotation) and wines (18 available by the glass) add to a range of authentic lagers, spirits and soft drinks.
Our food is all freshly prepared and our menu changes every day and across the seasons. With a focus on being enjoyable, honest and seasonal we are also affordable - we were very pleased in our first year to receive a 'Bib Gourmand' by Michelin for 'Good food at affordable prices'.
Our upstairs dining room can accommodate weddings, christenings and parties and is among the finest private hire options in London.

What Insiders Are Saying
The Drapers Arms is an isolated pub in Islington with a bar downstairs, a dining room upstairs, and a garden you should take advantage of.
Amazing Sunday roast
Amazing shared fore rib of beef.
Excellent food as always
The roast beef was far too undercooked for such a low quality cut. Tough chewy meat is unacceptable for £22. The desserts were nice and staff were also polite.
I had rather high hopes for this pub having seen it frequently mentioned in area guides and pub lists. But I left feeling a little disappointed. We were a little awkwardly seated at the end of a longer group table (booking was for 2). Service was fine. Main meals took around 45 minutes, which on a busy Sunday is to be expected so happy to wait, but upon arrival were lukewarm at best. Having ordered the pie that put me off which was a real shame as the taste/flavour seemed there. We still enjoyed it, but think it could have been a better experience. Wouldn't rush back, but would try again.
Gorgeous food, service and setting! Will be back for a sirloin roast, lamb was amazing!
Top pub, food and service. One of the reliable spots for dinner and great wines!
Food was excellent and bloody Mary’s perfect- service was good. Just wish the windows in the dining room upstairs would open. It was quite warm upstairs and a small breeze going through the room would have been perfect
Lovely ambience, food, setting — everything about this pub is great. Had a really nice lunch in the garden, plenty of space, relatively quiet and delicious roast chicken. Really recommend it.
We met as a large crowd for a birthday and were chatting away, but when the food came everyone went quiet and was concentrating on eating - a good sign for the food! We had the three kinds of sharing roasts and there was plenty of food. The roast potatoes were brilliant, which I was especially impressed with. The staff were so helpful and courteous.
My ONLY criticism would be that we would have preferred a lot more gravy - there were some gravy hogs at our table!
We usually really enjoy our evenings at the Drapers Arms, however tonight was an exception. The service was terrible, it took over an hour for our food to arrive, and our servers were very grumpy and unhelpful. No smiles, no apologies for the food greening late, no thank you for coming.... It was odd.
Fantastic meal at the Drapers Arms as always and I redeemed my opentable dining cheque (one of the few places that accepts them - and it was seamless too without any fuss). The Lamb shoulder sharing roast was incredible and all of the sides were perfect. Great wine selection too!
Consistently brilliant. Menu & wine list is always on point. Lovely service in a really relaxed, informal environment. Brilliant neighbourhood pub.
Food arrived cold, no one came to check on us during the meal. No staff available to complain to.
Had a long blonde hair in my roast That was also cold.
It’s probably one of the best pubs in Islington! The onglet steak is absolutely fantastic and a must try! The house is beautiful, cosy and the garden amazing! So happy to have such a nice place near home.
Food was kinda puritan: simple, well seasoned but no big flavours. Perfect for the health conscious Islington crowd. Great wine list though and amazing staff. Terrible accoustics sadly: a half-cut table of millennial girls were beyond shrill and a crying baby’s wail bounced around the room a few times before settling in between my eyes. Def worth a visit though.
Although we didn’t book a table outside, the waiter very kindly agreed to move us to an outside table as soon as one became available. Great service.
We went for the Easter Sunday lunch and ordered a roast. It was lovely, and even though it was busy the service was great.
Fantastic gastro pub, good selection of beers and wines. I highly recommend the rib of beef and the chilli greens. Heavenly. Will be back again soon.
Excellent quality food served in a laid back neighborhood setting
Great spices potatoes with the Cod, service good and nice beer.Definatley going back for more.
Excellent Sunday lunch
Very nice dinner, good service and a nice ambiance
A favourite of ours which did not let us down this time either.
Islington neighbourhood pub with lots of character. Nice atmosphere and attentive staff however was disappointed with the quality of the food and the value for money. Would return for a drink and bar snack but there are other neighbourhood pubs in the area with better quality food for the price.
A memorable lunch with close family. The food was fantastic and service was excellent.
Great scotch eggs and sausage roll. Got Sunday roast for 2 and it was good value received. Very tasty and large portion. Bread pudding was comforting
Nice ambience, great service, food was good, although my Yorkshire pudding was burnt, and my only complaint was that it was VERY noisy as it got later in the day...
Great food. But very slow and disorganised service. Expect to be here for a few hours for one course!
A real disappointment this time. We didn't start off well as we were sitting next to a Stag Party of 20 odd young men - who were lovely, there were just a lot of them, having loud fun. We could not be accommodated elsewhere so we stuck it out. The kitchen clearly couldn't cope with the big table and the other orders. Our baked camembert arrived cold and rubbery. Our main courses took an hour to arrive after that... The waitress was snooty - at best. The other waiter tried hard but needed to look after the stag party. The food as a whole was not as good as we have had before. And then the bill arrived with an extra bottle of wine charged to our table. In the end the waitress took off the camembert, the not-our-wine-wine and we told her to take off the service too. So whilst it didn't cost as much as it should have, we would rather have had a more enjoyable evening, better food and better service. Think The Draper's Arms is off the go-to list for a while.
OK but food could have been hotter and more enterprising
This was my first visit and it did not disappoint. The food was terrific - I shared roast chicken with 2 friends. Others had pigeon and lamb. Lamb was lovely but the pigeon was just too rare. Doggy bag to take home and great stock made with the chicken carcass! It was, however, extremely noisy with lots of children running around. I wonder if any consideration could be given to making one of the levels child free? I'm honestly not anti-children but I am anti parents who think that it is acceptable to allow their darlings to run around screaming, spoiling it for others.
We had an excellent Sunday lunch, but the place was a bit of a zoo so don't go if you want a quiet lunch. The service was excellent though despite it being busy - good job to the team! Good beers on cask and tap, great Bloody Mary and good wine slection too - all top notch.
If I booked again I’d definitely request upstairs, but Sunday roast was overpriced and underwhelming. Small portion of lamb, no Yorkshire puds, old potatoes
Delicious food, amazing wine and cocktails and great atmosphere, will be back again soon! Thanks for a lovely evening
Reasonable Gastropub food and ambience. Can get noisy with bare wood everywhere. Very friendly, quick staff.
Lovely food, nice ambience and wonderful staff. It is quite pricey but the quality is excellent. Somewhere to go for special occasions. Cx
Lovely cosy pub. Service very slow. Requested wine out of stock. Roast chicken for 2 at £42 pretty pricey, small chicken, ordinary vegetables. Not particularly hot food. Very average.
Lovely roast. We were unfortunately sat at a small table near the door so constantly flooded with a cold draft. Best to ask for a table further back.
