Another lovely evening at our local. Great to be in the garden in September. Great staff, a big thank you to charming Sam this evening
Arrived on time and were welcomed nicely and booked in for the pub quiz, our initial order was prompt and starters came out quickly but we waited 1 hour after finishing our starter to get our mains after asking how long it would be twice in the interim and being told 'its' coming right out', then once it arrived my partner's vegan wellington had a yorkshire pudding (which contained eggs) on it and the staff didn't know whether it was vegan or not so it took another five minutes to check. the once we stayed for the pub quiz we were forced to do an extra transaction as we weren't told it was cash payments only, then to be told by the quizmaster that they are actually cash free. after all this i was offered a small glass of coke as recompense. the food was nice once sorted but the service was an absolute shambles.
New change to menu was great and the food was really good but the service was still as slow as pre lockdown unfortunately which I don’t believe is due to additional COVID-19 protocol.
The staff are really friendly and welcoming and the COVID measures are good. The service was extremely slow that night and the staff apologiesed abut that - at the end of the meal. I have to say the food could have been good but wasnt - good ingredients but overcooked and lacking in overall taste. Its a shame because its a great pub, lovely beer garden and great staff.
An airy interior with separate booths and doors open on to a large garden made this a safe-feeling place for lunch. We had classic fish and chips – crispy batter, fluffy chips, but mushy peas with mint (which I think spoils the flavour, but it's a matter of taste). Willing, prompt service by staff wearing visors.
A last minute date .. lovely food and friendly staff.
Lovely pub with a great beer garden and good service
Dear Maria, Thank you so much for such a lovely review and highest score! Can't wait to welcome you back at The Duke! Best, Team Duke
What happened? I have been going to the Duke for 10 years. From great tapas to bland pub food. What a shame. Bring back the old team and food please. I can get overcooked pasta elsewhere.
Hello, Very sorry to hear how disappointed you were with your last visit. We are planning to bring back Spanish food, however in current circumstances decision has been made to run current menu due to supply issues. Hope to see you back at The Duke soon and live up to your expectations. Best, Team Duke

Dear Felix, Thank you so much for your review and score! We all hope to welcome you back at The Duke soon! Best, Team Duke
The kitchen definitely needs to improve, I am local and I’ve been several times in the pub but this was never before like that. 45 minutes for the starters ( one arrived after the main course and was undercooked).
Hello, Really sorry that we didn't live up to your expectations. We are constantly working towards service and offering. Hope to welcome back soon and provide great service! Best, Team Duke
Relaxing atmosphere food ok fish and chips fish a bit crispy lamb rump on the fatty side kids meals good
Dear LouisW, Thank you for your review and score. We are taking all criticism on board and constantly try to improve. Hope next visit will be worth 5 stars! Best, Team Duke
Top Sunday roast. Needed a few more ales on tap. Nice staff.
The food was a little disappointing. Such a shame as ive eaten here many times in the past and the food has been really good. My friend ordered the vegan fish and chips whilst I had the chicken with spinach and fries. Everything lacked seasoning, which was a shame as it looked and smelt fantastic! The ambience was great though and the staff were friendly. There was music playing, which was nice too.
Dear CharleneS, Thank you very much for your review and score. We are constantly working on improving offering & service. Hope next time you visit it'll be 5 stars! Best, Team Duke
Very busy so waited a while for food to be served but staff were friendly and attentive.
Dear PaulT, Thank you for your review and rating. Very sorry you had to wait for such a long time for your food. We are working on improving timings and service constantly. That said - hope to see you back at The Duke soon and provide 5 star service! Best, Team Duke
Very organised, friendly staff, the food was well cooked and a varied menu really enjoyed the meal. Shame they had run out of a couple of options by 7.15. Definitely going back

Dear LivetoEat, Thank you very much for your review! Hope to see you back at Duke soon! Best, Team Duke
Beautiful garden, lovely staff and always a pleasant experience.
Very enjoyable evening, great staff who looked after us very well. Attentive but not overbearing......will be back and recommended to friends.
very tasty food: I had a soft shell crab tempura which was delicious, and a very large sole with samphire. only reservation is the vegetables shouldn't be piled on top of the fish as it need deboning carefully.
Menu looked great but it didn’t live up to it when on the plate.
Friendly staff, should have put more staff on to cope with ‘eat out to help out’
Food took a long time to arrive
Pie was very good, chicken was average/disappointing
First food was so burnt they didn’t even serve me it, just told me it’d take another 20 mins as they had ‘burnt it to a crisp’. The plate that then arrived was insipid.
Very long wait for service
Inside place to be always friendly and cosy missed the chicken pie oh well next time cheers Dan
The Duke of Dussex is a lovely local pub and we dined there duration the Eat Out Help Out promotion. The menu reads really well and we’ve been there often for drinks in the past. However, the food was awful. We ordered croquettes to start which were cold and had to be sent back. I order a burger which was so over cooked it was tough and it came with an almost child sized portion of fries. This dish would normally cost £15! I couldn’t really believe the kitchen sent the dish out the way it was. My husband ordered a prawn linguine which was okay. The servers were working hard and very friendly but overall the service was a bit chaotic, it appeared they were short staffed. If we hadn’t been dining with the promotion which took a significant amount off the bill I definitely would have said something but either way disappointing.
Friendly attentive service.
Good no-nonsense food
Good service and helpfully staff who performed their role safely and with full regards to Covid 19 procedures.
Tasty, good value food, with friendly and helpful staff. In the heat we were upgraded from the bar area to a table in the garden. Great to have such a good-sized garden but to our dismay we were seated and then surrounded by smokers mid-evening.
You appeared understaffed. Staff were friendly, helpful and tried to be attentive but appeared stretched
Food consistently good. Nice outside relaxed space.
Love this pub! Great garden for alfresco (COVID avoidance) dining. Really lovely staff, super friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Delicious starters (THE CRAB) Mains were good too but a little over priced for what we got. Overall it was very nice meal.
Had a really great time.
They've really got their post-lockdown service and procedures properly sorted. Taken together with really great service and top food, it made for a totally relaxed Sunday lunch and drinks experience. Will be coming back as soon as possible.
My husband and I had starters and a main course each and it was delicious! Thoroughly recommend.
Good to see the Duke of Sussex back in action after 4 long months of lockdown. We found it calm, well-ordered, but the food is still good and the service was friendly.
Very disappointing and not just because quite. There was no atmosphere staff not very friendly and no attention not even to ask if everything was ok or do you want dessert and nearly forgot the wine we ordered. I would understand if busy and I do understand it is still a new thing for them, but really even where we sat was like a ghost town that needed a refurbishment. They could have at least re sanded floor and a varnish looked terrible because all tables and chairs taken away in the centre of room. Place flowers perhaps to bring it to life, very very disappointed as used to be a regular customers.
Brilliant service from the friendly staff - thank you!
Such a pleasure to have the Duke back and the staff were as welcoming as ever, helpful and well prepared. Good food and wine in a spacious garden. Wonderful!
Great lunch and will definitely go again
The beer garden is quite large which makes social distancing easy. Very comfortable atmosphere.
