Great food with amazing flavours and the best bread to start with.
Not too much that you felt full but just enough. Love this place for its atmosphere too.
Excellent food, wine & service👍🏻
On arrival I was served the wrong drink at the bar. I had to remind them twice I had a table booked. Once seated the food was excellent although I feel a little overpriced. I think side orders should be with the main meal price and not sold separately. The service was very good, the room was cosy when full, a table needs to be removed to make it more relaxing. I noticed three diners asked the waitress to explain items on the menu to which she had to go and ask. The menu isn’t extensive so maybe staff should be made aware of what is on it..the table by the bar going to the toilets needs putting somewhere else as staff were standing their and you could not get past. All in all the food was great but not sure I would go again...
Excellent, thank you we really enjoyed our first meal here and was well looked after. Food was so delicious and presented really well. Your staff were attentive and kind and surroundings immaculate. We look forward to dining with you again! 10/10
Great restaurant good service and tasty food good choice of wines and drinks
For a country pub setting, this has the ambience of a fine dining. The service has always been good, but on this visit they were on top of their game. Both food and setting were excellent. If my in-laws, who are foodies, raved how good it was. Highly recommend it to everyone!
best restaurant in the area. always bring my swiss relatives who have high standards
My favourite place in the area. I am a regular and keep coming back. The food is always amazing, but new menu seems to have kicked into another gear. Well done!
Very nice building with plenty of parking and lovely decorated inside. Staff were very attentive, sometimes I thought too much, topping up water or wine. It was rather noisy when we arrived and was noisy throughout our meal which was annoying. The food was presented well and tasted wonderful. The price was quite high so I don’t think I will be frequenting the premises again for a while.
Really exceptional evening. Food and wine delicious and service refreshingly efficient and professional. Can’t wait to go back!
Lovely pub with great food
Would definitely go again.
Always a lovely place to go. Great food great staff thank you
We ate from the market menu 3 courses for a very reasonable £22.
The portions of the starter and main were on the small side so we ordered extra greens as a side dish. The starter was very tasty. The main was presented very well but the chicken ballotine was rather dry and luke warm. The meringue dessert was outstanding.
We were shocked that half a carafe came to £18 as that meant each large glass was £9!
The service was extremely good.
All in all with the nice vibe we were happy with our experience.
The only thing that spoiled the meal was having to pay over £9 for two pints of coke. A disgrace of profiteering. Shame. We have been regulars.
From start through to desserts ‘service from the staff was very pleasant and helpful .sunday menu was top quality although there were some large parties in the dining room so this led to a bit of noise.
Very pleasant Sunday lunch experience. Would have been better if the waitress was no so keen at visiting the table so often.
A thoroughly enjoyable meal for our family. Delicious food served in a great environment by friendly staff. I just wish this our local.
We have enjoyed our past dinning hear but the last lunch was quite lack lustre .
I had the chicken dish from the market menu , I found it a tad dry and uninspiring, the ceasar starter was lovely but slightly off putting with the foam...looked like cuckoo spit !
The fish and chips my husband had were very average , the actual food service time was very slow . It took an hot from sitting at table for main course to arrive.
Will choose a different time and check the menu before we go again.
Extremely pleasant. Always lovely to visit. We will definitely be coming again.
Good Gastro Pub with daily menu and a good and comprehensive wine list
Service was good and helpful
This is my fave place to eat out. I had a lovely birthday meal. Everything was outstanding and the staff were friendly, helpful and approachable - thank you
Our party of four had a lovely, relaxed meal where we were able to talk normally and not have to shout at each other. Some places have diners so are packed together that you can't hear each other or even have elbow room. Very enjoyable, as usual, and would highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
We went for Sunday lunch with my daughter and her partner for her birthday. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable about drinks from the bar she impressed us all
We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and they even brought my daughter a little birthday treat despite only finding out when we sat down
Lovely place thank you duncombe arms
Bril. So good we wanted to book for the following evening, but they were full
Really nice pub and helpful staff and enjoyed the Market menu.
Lovely village ‘gastro pub’ with welcoming staff, lovely appearance, and the best Sunday roast I have had in several years! For the fussy eater on the table they were allowed to order from the bar menu even though we were on the main restaurant area. Would definitely recommend.
Great food in quality surroundings. Would have no question in recommending to friends and family.
The food & service was exceptional! The only thing that let it down was some other diners as they had a child sleeping on one of the back benches at the table we were meant to be sitting at. As a result instead of asking the other diners to move we had to sit at a different table. Apart from that (which did spoil the ambience a little) it was fabulous!
Excellent service and very tasty food, although drinks are a bit expensive!
Excellent meal...flavours were excellent and some interesting combinations that worked so well. A lovely relaxed meal. Highly recommend!
Warm welcome, staff are friendly and attentive. Have dined here four times in last couple of months. It has to be the best in the area!
Excellent food, service and atmosphere will definitely be returning.
Very welcoming interior, which is smart and comfy at the same time. The staff are relaxed, well trained and friendly. The food is superb, seasonal menu which is cooked and presented to perfection. The bar is extremely well stocked with good quality drinks. Beautiful country pub serving posh good food in a relaxed cosy place.
Good service, good food and well presented. Would be regarded has reasonably priced anywhere south of Derbyshire, good value for money
Found it expensive, the wine was £10 a glass, the chicken meal which was small did not include any potatoes (£3.50 extra) so over £20. Service was slow but it might because it was busy.
We came to Ashbourne to visit Sudbury Hall and stopped at The Duncombe Arms Pub for lunch. The starters were very good, my husband enjoyed the asparagus with the egg and my son liked his salmon. I'm afraid we were disappointed by the main courses especially the cod. A lovely piece of fish in a very bitter unedible sauce. As a dessert, we had the Tarte Tatin... it was sublime!
I'm afraid a mixed feeling experience, maybe we chose the wrong day?
We had heard from friends that the Duncombe Arms was a great place to eat. They weren’t wrong. We booked for Sunday lunch and from arriving to departing, we couldn’t fault a thing. The staff, the food, the wine, everything was perfect. We highly recommend the Duncombe Arms to anyone. We will definitely be back.
My duck egg and asparagus starter was absolutely superb and we were very impressed with all the dishes. Staff were very efficient and there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
The food was good and we enjoyed our lunch. We felt that the wine was very good but very expensive. Overall a lovely day out.
Have been a few times now and usually a 10/10 however this occasion we felt it took way too long to order and the food wasn’t quite up to its usual best.
Still going back as said above it’s usually a 10/10
