The Dungeon at Ashford Castle
Dramatic and Atmospheric. As its name would suggest, the unique setting located on the lower ground floor of the castle invites diners to enjoy a range of satisfying dishes from the bistro-style menu with a focus on traditional Irish cuisine beneath the historic curved stone ceiling. Together with a relaxed ambience, it makes for a wonderful and memorable dining experience. The Dungeon’s menu provides a true taste of the unique and exclusive West of Ireland experience.
Very fine food , service very very good .All perfect
Superb food and excellent service. Booked for a special occasion and was not disappointed!
I was very disappointed with the food the steak was cold, it cost a lot of money and it was a poor show. The Dungeon was cold, the waiter gave us a small cheap heater but it did not help..This was a reunion of 3 nurses myself and my friend came over to Ireland to meet the third nurse, we had trained together 40ys ago so, we wanted it to be special but for 300 eur it was pretty awful
Great decor, medieval castle feel. Steak was cooked perfectly and great service. Wine was lovely however expensive for what it was but that is too be expected in a hotel like this. Great staff, super friendly.
Food really nice. Personally found it even nicer than in main restaurant last time. Service v good. Atmosphere nice
The menu was really, really unimaginative and bland. It was just disappointing because everything else in the castle had been fabulous. We would definitely stay in the castle again but we wouldn't use the Dungeon restaurant. It was the only negative to our whole experience. They also only play traditional Irish music in the Dungeon which was a little grating.
Excellent, as you would expect.
The food at The Dungeon was beautiful and a great place to spend a meal.
First class and very tasty indeed.
Thanks to all the guys for a great experience
The staff were very friendly and very attentive.
The decor not so good. It appears like a "knights tale" / castle themed diner. Also there was no fireplace lit and it's was chilly in temp. Candles would improve.
The food was ok. I've had better steaks elsewhere for much less. There was also very few vegatarian or dairy free / gluten free options.
The desert was ordered but took an age to arrive. I was not charged for it so again the service, excellent.
Sorry but I want overly impressed by ambiance, food or value.
Loved the experience and staff......food..... felt that burger could have been more as indeed the chips otherwise great
Excellent in all areas. Efficiently orchestrated by Sean O’Malley. Would return often if lived close.
Such a fun dining experience at The Dungeon! Delicious food and great atmosphere with excellent service.
We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Ashford Castle. Gerald greeted us at the entrance, invited us to enjoy the gardens before escorting us to the restaurant. On the way he pointed out highlights of the castle and offered to take our photo. Shane in the restaurant was friendly, courteous and attentive.
Impeccable seamless service from staff with a genuine interest in our welfare despite the fact we were not staying overnight. A highlight of our month long trip in Ireland. Priceless experience! Thank you!
Been to Ashford Castle a few times stayed at lodge twice love it
Book dungeon for meal amazing food drinks service staff brilliant
Cannot wait to go back
The food and service was excellent! And it was beautifully decorated. I was a little dissapointed that it didnt look anything like a dungeon. More like a high end restaurant.
Service not to par with other dining establishments on property. Waited well over 30 mins before being informed or meat selection was not being sold due to freshness, which I totally appreciate. But as we were not first dinner service not sure why they didn’t remove from menu already. The replacement was fair but too rare and slightly tough. The rest of the food was ok nothing to talk about. It took way too long for check out, I went to my room and left my hubby to wait. Food &service must always surpass the cheesy decor of any themed restaurant, hopefully just an off night as everyone was still kind and friendly.
amazing dinner experiences，great services，Kindly、gently！it is worth to order it.very good.
Celebrating our anniversary at the castle. Dinner was excellent
We had high expectations but overall nothing about the meal really stood out as spectacular. Then again nothing was really poor either. We just expected more. Are you
It was my daughter Birthday! The staff was great food was excellent.
Excellent all round. Our waiter Stephen was a total gentleman ..10/10
Make sure to make a reservation early, this place gets booked up fast. The oysters were incredibly fresh and their steak was MOUTH WATERING. Highly recommend if you are staying at Ashford.
The tables were very close and the room is too small. I thought it would have had a more "dungeon" look. Our order was incorrect - didn't receive everything we ordered. Food was okay, nothing spectacular as I would have expected at Ashford Castle.
Casual themed dining with a good menu, efficient staff, and tremendous deserts. It is a small location so if you plan on dining there be sure to make a reservation days before.
Nice ending to a wonderful vacation
Our dinner at The Dungeon at Ashford Castle was lovely and delicious. The ambiance was very clubby, in a good way. The service was unobtrusive yet attentive, and always friendly and kind. The oysters were amazing, as was my filet and accompaniments. My husband's fish was outstanding. A lovely evening with a walk outside on the lovely grounds of the castle. Highly recommended!
Service was very attentive and excellent. We both ordered filet mignon and both were outstanding and prepared exactly as we had requested. The atmosphere is dark, with candlelight, which we loved. We also liked the casual attire (no jacket required) since we were traveling and had not packed 'formal' clothes for the other dining room at the castle.
The Irish Wagyu ribeye steak was very poor. Tesco finest ribeye steak is a far superior product.
The creamed spinach was bitter and stalky and the chips were a poor quality oven chip.
Really not a good meal. Very very Dissatisfied and disappointed.
Amazing! Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone
A very nice and unique setting for a meal. Ashford Castle is an amazing place.
Service is second to none
Ashford Castle is an experience and lives up to even the loftiest expectations. We went horse back riding followed by dinner but we had a 2 hour gap between the 2. They allowed us to lounge at the bar (a separate room with its own fireplace and leather club chairs) while dinner time rolled around. Allow is the appropriate word. This is an exclusive hotel, very protective of its guests privacy and comfort. Although you can enjoy all the activities offered on the property of the castle (at a cost), access to the hotel and its immediate grounds is only if you are a registered guest or have an advance reservation at one of its restaurants. Your name is checked against reservations before you are allowed over the threshold. Even with all that and knowing the scrutiny, I am happy to abide by the rules to experience something so steeped in tradition and history. And to top it all off, the food was excellent, the offerings varied and tasty. The service was on par with any of the best restaurants in NYC without a snooty attitude anywhere. This is there more casual restaurant but I don't think I could have enjoyed the formal one more. It's my second time at the castle, my first time dining but it is not my last time visiting. I am already planning my trip for next year. A new family tradition :)
Best restaurant in the castle
Excellent service in this small restaurant... food was very good.
lovely setting, relaxed despite the grandeur of the hotel, fantastic food and service, would definitely eat here again were the opportunity to arise
Great Atmosphere! Everything at Ashford Castle is top notch! Everyone is so friendly and accommodating! Food is delicious!
Pretty expensive for a basic menu.
Thought main course (Cod) was rather cold.
The matcha gimlet cocktail was excellent. Service was attentive and quick. Food was well-prepared, hot, and tasty.
The Dungeon at Ashford Castle is as nice as it gets! Actually, every little detail at Ashford Castle and the Dungeon is looked after. I had the filet mignon and it was fabulous, my wife had the salmon and again it was over the moon excellent. The service here is as good as it gets, the ambience outstanding and this is a top notch restaurant. Don't miss the if you're in for a treat!
