Completely forgot I placed a booking. Had to sit outside
Long wait for service and food, had to chase drinks order after food arrived. not great for work lunches.
A good place to go for something a bit different - quirky decor, good food and friendly service. Ideal for going to in your lunch hour - the food arrived incredibly quickly so there was no worry about whether we’d be back in time.
I recently made a booking for 9 people at The Fable, and when the group turned up, the staff at the fable claimed the booking was for 5 people and that they did not have any tables available for a larger group. The woman refused to acknowledge the confirmation I had from The Fable clearly showing that it was for 9 people. After we managed to fit 9 chairs at a space made for 6 (with NO help from the staff), we were then ignored for more than 30 minutes without anyone even bothering to take our drink orders. When the food was eventually served, one dish was missing, which then turned up around 30 minutes late. There was barely an apology from the staff for the delayed food. While I have been there before and received excellent service, I can no longer recommend The Fable as a place to go.
Very slow service, small table with little room, and little room between tables
I went there , by myself had a burger and a pint, on a Saturday lunchtime, not very busy and good vibe.
Also with other people in the evening, the service was a little slow, considering some of the staff seemed to have time to talk to each other, just an observation.
Went there having booked via OpenTable a week in advance. I turned up early, only to find the venue closed for a private Xmas event. OpenTable were non the wiser and even sent a booking reminder in advance of my attending.
I booked a table through the App to be told I didn’t have a table reserved. It was only when I walked out that someone came running after me to offer a table once another group had finished.
I have had bad service at The Fable before.
I will not be going back as a result.
Nice venue but unfortunately the food let down our experience. People who ordered burgers were the only ones who were happy with their food.
We came to The Fable for my birthday meal on Saturday and I'm so glad I chose here! The cocktails and food were delicious (especially the steak!) and Connor was an amazing host - funny, friendly and really helpful. I'll definitely be back and would 100% recommend this place to anyone.
Really nice bar, with really nice service. Went there for my 30th bday and they accomodated all my requests (even brought me my fruit GF cake :)
Greeted by your lovely front desk hostess with a smile and positive attitude. This makes a difference.
The food was excellent. The service fast and efficient.
I had a very enjoyable brunch here on Saturday. It is a beautiful quirky restaurant (mind you don’t get lost in the toilets!) serving delicious food by friendly staff. I booked an 11:00 brunch for three friends and myself but when we arrived the kitchens had no gas so they asked if we could return at 12:00. We agreed not realising that everything is closed in the City at the weekend! Nonetheless we managed to hang around and when we returned to the restaurant they were very kind to us and even provided us with complimentary food for the inconvenience. We had a chorizo scotch egg, eggs benedict and royale and chicken burgers all accompanied by a selection of their different fries. All the food we had was delicious and we were all happy and replete by the end of it. The staff did not know, but it was actually my birthday that day and they made it a very lovely occasion. I would definitely recommend The Fable and look forward to visiting again.
Very good for a business breakfast
Great service from the friendly staff
Ordered the Thai Sirloin salad. No sirloin so they used ribeye which was fine by me however, the salad was basically flavourless leaves drenched in oil. Nothing Thai about it whatsoever. Poor.
This is my second time here and it was just as great as the first. Sat upstairs this time, which was perfect for a group of 8 people at 6pm, as it can get very busy and noisy downstairs. Staff were attentive and the food was excellent. Looking forward to going back soon.
large table so had to wait for food, definitely not the usual standard
Lively atmosphere, the burgers were all amazing, and the table with the stacks of books as the backdrop was creative.
Had a very decent meal here; nothing exceptional, but two tasty and generous salads. My fregola was a little cold and seemed like it had possibly just come from the fridge, but it was reasonably generously furnished with chicken. Service (esp for drinks) was a little slow, especially considering it was a quietish Monday, but all were polite and friendly. Would go back if the situation was right, though not rushing out of my way to so.
Good location, good size, good venue for a staff team meal, which is what this booking was. Fun night out.
Really disappointed with our meal here. Our main meal arrived 5 mins after we ordered it so i doubt it was freshly made. it certainly tasted bland and was a very measly portion for the price. The dessert was not as described and burnt! there was a private event upstairs and i'm sure the kitchen was more concerned with catering for this than the clients in the restaurant. It was nice that the staff didn't rush us through the evening but i had to ask for the dessert menu myself eventually because they just didn't give us any notice.
Really enjoyed our lunch here. Virgin cocktails were excellent and we had great service in nice surroundings.
Came here for a book club meeting - how apt! The Fable boasts a beautiful ambience decorated with lots of greenery and literature quotes. The service was amazing, better than your average restaurant in London. The food left a bit to be desired - pass on the pancakes and instead go for a dessert!
The waiter showed my self to one table and the other members of my meeting to another table around the corner ... they were both under my name! It took a while to realise and was 25 minutes into lunch.
The Fable is a great place to meet for breakfast, opens early & does a good selection of breakfast options.
We had a business dinner here. It was not the cheapest place around, but it was open and had space for us after having briefly gone to a pub nearby. The menu choices for the people on our team was very good; we had a vegan diner and they were very accommodating. They even let one diner "take away" the incomplete meal (leftovers); providing a plate, foil and a bag to take it home. Very nice place; great service and a good atmosphere. Only drawback was they wouldn't let us sit in the "fabled" table (a table that was made out of books!
Excellent, delicious overall an amazing place for food, service, vibe!
Lovely as always..
We went to Fable for a pre xmas lunch and as expected it was fairly busy (was almost empty as we left by 2 though). We really enjoyed ourselves and the atmosphere was great, but there were three things that would stop me coming again:
1- As a restaurant in the city serving lunch, they should be better prepared at fast service so that it fits within a 1 hour lunch break (our food got served 50 minutes after we arrived).
2- DO NOT ORDER THE BURGERS! The brioche buns get delivered frozen, and aren't fully defrosted when served. The first burger we got was sent back as it was still frozen solid in the middle, so all the rest were then over grilled (slightly burnt, but still cold). I had the chicken burger and it wasn't very nice as a whole- I would not recommend it at all (even if the bun was properly heated). FYI the fish and chips seemed to go down well (and I can recommend the sweet potato fries).
3- Billing after seemed to be an issue. I appreciate it's a pain to split bills (there were 9 of us), but either state that you don't accept it or don't make a fuss. Our waitress was at first ok with it, but then kept trying to split the remainder to make it easier/faster- which was not appreciated and caused an argument. She was insistent on charging someone £25, despite him only having a no-so-great burger (no booze). It only got resolved when I stood in and said she needed to continue charging us individually, and then it was my responsibility to count up the rest to ensure that everything was paid- instead of her telling me how much remained on the rest of the bill...
Despite being a short walk from my office, I won't be coming back here unless I can help it.
Nice ambience and good service but food wasn't great.
Restaurant had a great table for 22 of us ready at 6:30. The wine service was good. The food was average - the sausages and mash was pretty poor; we pre-ordered 2 weeks in advance and they had still run out of a starter for one of my guests so he had to have something else. Bearing in mind this was a Christmas meal during mid-December, they were blaring out uk chart pop tunes very loudly rather than Christmas tunes, so ambience was rather lacking.
Came here for my birthday meal and they accommodated well for my vegan friends, the staff were fab and the food was delicious. Great value for money and the decor inside is super cosy and welcoming! Defintely give it a go!
The service was great and food was delicious. The portions are very generous, which is refreshing for a restaurant in the city. Prices are quite reasonable given the quality of food, service and ambience.
Beautiful atmosphere and comfort food
Great specials - we both ordered fish from there and both choices were good and decent value. It was busy in there and the service was on the ball
We were a large table of 12. The service was not very attentive and the food service was slow. However another friends joined us late and they quickly served him a main course.
I feel they need more waiters during busy periods.
Food was good and reasonably priced.
Restaurant is done out in a lovely style. Staff and great, warm and attentive. Menu is varied and will give the widest range of people something to eat. However, the food is a little average. It seems like (i can't know this of course) that much is pre-prepared and heated up..or bought in. So i got a sense that i could have bought a heat and eat from a supermarket and been in a similar position food wise.
Excellent service and excellent food.
The Fable is a lovely place for lunch or after work drinks. I've been here quite a few times as it's close to work however the only downside to it is the service can be slow at times. It does get busy in there but there always seems to be a lot of staff around so can't really understand why on several occasions it took so long waiting for the bill (last time I had to ask 3 times for it). Just think they need to keep their staff on the ball. Setting is lovely, perfect balance of not too over the top and casual. Best to make reservations as it does get busy!
