About
The most fantastic location - beautiful views. The food was really lovely, we ate in the garden. We loved the outdoor pizza option, we didn't have it but it looked fantastic. We had the burgers - these were really delicious. This is one of our new fave locations
Superb place lovey veiws, top food, just go....
Lovely Saturday lunch with friends. Great food, excellent staff and fantastic views with the Red Kites of the Chilterns putting on a display throughout
Menu a little limited and the veg on one dish were over cooked. One desert not good, salted caramel. Service and ambience however excellent.
Delicious lunch. Our steaks were cooked to perfection! As others have remarked not that easy to find. Hint: ignore the sat nav and stay on the main road/lane.
Friendly family atmoshere hard to find anything wrong with this
gastro pub if you can find it! The Cornish mussels were wonderful. We will be going back!
Reliably good with local ingredients, imaginative menu, good value wines, delightfully friendly service, and spectacular views.
Lovely atmosphere, really great food and views across the valley.
Stunning location with wonderful views, this quintessential historic English pub restaurant set in the Chilterns countryside is worth a visit lunchtime or evening for just drink in the garden or cosy bar. The restaurant is equally memorable with an excellent menu and high standards of cuisine and service. We had a lovely dinner with friends and all enjoyed a special evening.
A very lovely old gastropub in a stunning country location. Relaxed but attentive. Food was excellent.
Really enjoyable evening. It was impromptu decision for a Saturday date. Lovely food, very welcoming atmosphere. Would recommend it.
Very much enjoyed our lunch. However rather upset that although I had booked on line, the staff had no record of that. Good job we were early so did get a table, but might have been a problem had we arrived later.
If you can find it down a single track lane the Five Horseshoes quite a find. Lovely old pub with fabulous views and good food. Service little too relaxed. Took more than 30 mins to get our first food - a bread basket. Good cooking though although homemade bread not what it was built up to be. Will definitely return though in the summer months
Good food, friendly service, good atmosphere. Will go back.
Love The Five Horseshoes. Just wish we lived nearer. Thank you, Anita.
Beautiful pub/restaurant in the middle of nowhere, with amazing views across the Chilterns. Always extremely busy, so we were pleased to get a last minute booking on the Thursday after Christmas. We weren't very adventurous with our food selection (three fish and chips please!), but the menu looked pretty good, if a little pricey, and the food itself was fine; chips overdone (they discounted our puds in compensation), pretty good fish and peas although you'd hope chef couldn't go far wrong with that. Very good puddings - my wife's chocolate fondant was apparently excellent as was my crumble. Service wasn't bad, prices are somewhat inflated, but I guess if you're always busy, and the place is so beautiful, you can get away with it! Summary? Great pub and location, good, but not exceptional, over priced food.
Food is outstanding, as is the service - always! Highly recommend Sunday roast, but make sure you book if you'd like a table indoors. If sitting outside, arrive early.
Views from the garden are spectacular, so a good venue to take out of town visitors.
Also dog-friendly.
Lovely old country pub with excellent food and "casual" service. Great views of the Chiltern Hills from the dining room.
Good evening but older crowd and food nice but not outstanding by any stretch. Acceptable. Service slow...
We had visited The Five Horseshoes back in the Summer and had enjoyed a drink in their garden, which has stunning views of the Chiltern Hills and vowed to return for a meal & so me & my friends booked a table, we were warmly welcomed and taken to our table without delay and our waiter was very attentive without being over the top, we mentioned that two of our group were on a diet and requested if it was possible to have less of butter & various changes to the requested meals and this was delivered without any hesitation, we were then really over the moon when the waiter returned & said the chef had enquired as to whether we might prefer a lesser calorie laden food instead of what was on the menu and we thought that was so thoughtful of them. The evening was very pleasant indeed and we are looking forward to returning very soon. We thought it was very good value & superbly delicious food with great service.
We had a lovely birthday celebration for my mothe-in-laws 89th birthday! The owners and staff wer very welcoming, the food excellent , and great ambiance with incredible views! They really made her birthday special!
We had to chose from one of many local pub/restaurants to have lunch with 6 old school friends - 3 of which were meeting for only the second time in 50 years - and decided to walk to the 5 Horseshoes and eat on the outside veranda. When it turned cold we were invited inside to a very cosy table next to the bar, and enjoyed an excellent selection from a menu featuring local produce, finishing with a summer pudding and coffee. It was faultless, and at an average of £25 per head good value too. Even our two dogs were offered a small treat, all 8 of us left happy with our choice of venue.
Beautiful views, friendly staff, and excellent food. 35 day aged steaks were a treat, and all the dishes were well presented.
Strongly recommend.
We have never had a disappointing meal at the 5 Horseshoes! The owners are lovely. The fire is on whenever it's chilly. Great after a long walk. Super in the evenings. Great food, delicious venison and great fresh vegetables. Very tender steak. Everything done perfectly. We love it!
We enjoyed the view from the dining room window over unspoilt countryside. The service was very good and friendly. The food was very tasty but the portion control was slightly over zealous compared with similar type of establishments.
We've eaten at The Five Horseshoes regularly for a while now. Great for a meal after early - evening cinema trips. Lovely for a special meal with family or friends - always a warm welcome from a lovely, cosy country pub. There are fantastic walks nearby too!
A nice little pub for a nice meal out.
To be enjoyed with good weather as the views are wonderful.
This place is one of my favourite, set in a great area with fantastic views of the chiltern hillsides. The menu is brilliant, food is so delicious with good sized portions. Great ambience and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.
