The Four Seasons at Swinfen Hall Hotel
Was a very nice dinner, in a very nice country house hotel.
Dinner was pricey,- £150 for two people, but was accompanied with prompt and good service, and a great ambiance, despite the small number of people dining.
Would definitely recommend.
Excellent meal and service in lovely hall. Most impressed with the friendliness and expertise of the staff. Lovely grounds too - in which we took the opportunity to walk after the meal.
A very surprising evening. Our normal go-to locally for top end food had let us down on last visit so decided to take a punt. Based on website pics, I worried atmosphere would be a bit stuffy and old fashioned. Pleasantly greeted by terrific staff, food more modern than expected and several great little twists. 7 course tasting menu worth every penny.
The food was lovely the staff were very friendly, and all in all a very pleasurable dining experience.
Perfect in every way. Food first class and staff outstanding.
Fab place to go, me and fiancé enjoyed every moment of it , so beautiful 😇
Excellent as always, new tasting menu delicious. Looking to book again as soon as possible.
Swinfen Hall is secret gem of a place. Driving up the drive we felt like we were stepping back in time. Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious. We ate in a beautiful grand dining room with white table cloths and very attentive staff. My family enjoyed a sumptuous Sunday lunch.
Lovely setting friendly staff and great food what more can you ask for. Very professional. I look forward to going again
Our visit yet again exceeded all expectations, the staff went above and beyond. Food was cooked to perfection. Thankyou for such a lovely relaxing afternoon.
We had a fabulous meal in an outstanding setting with service that was excellent throughout.
We were also very grateful that our special request was honoured. Thank you for a very memorable birthday lunch.
Just simply amazing
This Four Seasons is deliberately high-end dining in an area where cheap eats typically prevail. In spite of this, the hotel is quaintly parochial, witnessed by the fascination with who was this customer who had booked from New York. It must have been a disappointment to find I was a local boy returned home, dining with his mother who had lived in the area for decades, but any let-down was not reflected in the warm, conversational and yet unintrusive service.
We had gin and tonics in the bar, with the opportunity to peruse the menu and wine list, before being shown to the dining room. It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night, but perhaps that was down to the end-February date. The dining room was fairly plain and predictable, albeit well-spaced lending to privacy, which is due to it being a hotel location that is used regularly by guests. Anything flash soon becomes tedious on repeat visits over a stay. The hotel is full of twists and turns and little quirks, such as the hidden entrance to the bathroom, while there is a ballroom to accommodate large groups.
There is a new chef at the restaurant and he was certainly out to impress. The waiters knew every inch of the menu and described each of the multiple ingredients in fine detail. The menu is already changed, and so there is little point making a recommendation, although the pork starter was a solid piece of meat and a consequence slightly dry, despite the attendant apple sauce. On the other hand, the garden-based dishes were both light and delicious, while my mother declared herself delighted with the halibut. We drank a bottle of Nyetimber, and if you have yet to try this excellent English champagne, do treat yourself to a bottle.
Overall it was a most pleasant and superior dining experience to similarly-priced New York restaurants. For the location, however, it is very expensive and thus would need just a little bit more in terms of taste-experience to earn a five-star rating.
We ordered two Bloody Mary’s to start and unfortunately they were well below average for this establishment. Everything else was wonderful.
Excellent as always. Love the tasting menu. Broadens my tsdte budds each time.
Myself and a friend dined here 15.2.19 and we couldn't fault it.
The staff were so friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much trouble for them.
The food was outstanding.
We went a wonder around the beautiful building and its gardens and was so impressed by its History and beauty.
We would definitely visit again, it was so relaxing and not rushed, we had a wonderful afternoon. Thankyou all the staff at Swinfen Hall for making our dining out a wonderful experience.
Another fantastic meal in The Four Seasons restaurant.......worth every penny.
Hi MrsBBV Delighted you enjoyed your recent dinner with us back in December. We look forward to welcoming you back in 2019! Why not come along to one of our events or Gourmet evenings. We have a special evening planned on the 25th January for Burns Night - here's the link to our website - https://swinfenhallhotel.co.uk/event/burns-night-swinfen-style/ Kind Regards Stuart Kennedy Operations Manager
I booked a table at Swinfen Hall for my wife’s 30th birthday and can say without any hesitation that it surpassed my expectations. The house itself is grand, majestic and immaculate. The staff are courteous and go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and welcomed - the lighting of the fire in the main sitting room was a particularly nice touch and greatly appreciated considering the The food was outstanding with a superlative tasting menu and excellent wine pairings with all courses. The selection of digestifs were fantastic. A meal to be experienced, savoured and repeated. My wife enjoyed it thoroughly and the in-laws (who had never visited Swinfen Hall before) were so impressed that they have already begun making plans to revisit in the near future.
49th wedding anniversary.
Great place, food and service excellent, but we picked a quiet day for lunch and unfortunately we were the only people in the restaurant.
Hardly any choice.
The starter and dessert was stone cold it was obvious they were pre made and come straight out of fridge
The house champagne was very good and the staff very professional and friendly
A very relaxing lunch, could not fault anything the service and the food (which was full of flavour) were excellent. The only small negative was that the coffee lacked flavour and did not have a lot of taste.
The lounge and the gardens were very nice to sit in both before and after the meal.
For a Country House Hotel they have got the levels of food and service just right and shows that they are professional and this is what you are paying for when you go to a hotel like this. It is quite expensive, but when you have food and service like this it is worth paying for it.
Very enjoyable meal, efficient and friendly staff, nothing to too much trouble for any of the staff
This was our 2nd visit and although the chef didn't bring the main course to us this time, as had sone previously the service was outstanding. By far THE BEST food and service.
Went for my partners 35th birthday and was really impressed. The staff are friendly and efficient. We were sat on the balcony when we first arrived with beautiful views of the garden, lake and fountain. It was very peaceful and romantic. We were then moved to the main restaurant for our main meal. Food was nice and I would recommend place this to anyone! Had a lovely time!
1st visit, simply superb, fabulous historic grand surroundings. An impressive place to be, incredibly well kept and run as it is family restored and owned .Beautiful surroundings and interior. Staff are professional, considerate and friendly, perfect combination. A pleasurable and memorable afternoon. Wished lived closer , but a definite return nevertheless. Food was freshly prepared and excellent even though they also had a wedding on that day. First class , highly recommended .Very appropriate classical background music. A credit to all concerned thank you.
Lovely old building, great staff , lovely food, nice gardens
We booked via Open table for a romantic lunch. Amazing venue and the staff were superb. We were greeted by name at the door. The food was creative, mouth watering and we enjoyed every mouthful. The restaurants famous homemade bread was delicious. My white pork starter and chicken main both exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to go back there to celebrate our wedding in two months time.
Elegant historic building in good shape, set in well manicured gardens and very suitable for a special occasion. The food was very good and innovative with a well thought out blend of harmonious tastes. Although there was a wedding party nearby, their noise was not intrusive. Service was good most of the time until it came to paying the bill when they had disaapeared, presumably to serve the wedding group.
I simply love this place. This is my fifth visit to Swinfen Hall for various family meals and business meetings. There is something very special about the place - the food is always first class and the welcome and service exemplary
Yes it comes highly recommended!
The restaurant didn't have much atmosphere. It was very quiet.
Good, but not blown away quite as much by menu as previous visit last year. Would definitely go again.
Excellent as always. Will be returning soon for another fabulous evening.
Absolutely fabulous venue and staff we very professional. Could have almost been ruined by a rowdy group whom obviously weren't educated enough to act appropriately in their surroundings. Apart from them, the food was out of this world. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend.
Went there for Easter Sunday lunch having been there before, couldn't believe how much this has gone down in in the quality of the menu and of the food. The choice was at best poor and food the same. such a shame as it used to be a lovely place to go for a meal but now not much better than pub grub but with fine dining prices.
We have enjoyed a number of great meals at this restaurant in the past. However, it seems to have lost its sparkle. This is an expensive place to eat, and to stay, and therefore one books for a special occasion and expects a magical evening. Our cutlery was never correctly matched to the courses, the food varied between really good for some courses and frankly disappointing for others, sometimes there was nearing thirty minutes between courses, sometimes the wine came ten minutes before the course it was meant to complement, sometimes after we had started eating (we ordered the nine course tasting menu). The previously tasteful crockery had been changed for mismatched heavy earthenware, some of which was inappropriately matched to the food so that it was difficult to eat, as well as being aesthetically quite unpleasing. The table arrangement also did us no favours as we ended up sideways on to each other so that it was difficult to talk properly, one of us facing another table and the other staring at the wall. The tables were crammed in more than previously and this was the result. This extended even to the breakfast, where we both ordered the cooked breakfast and had it served on totally different plates, the previously generous pots of tea reduced to trendy glass coffee pot style teapots which provided one decent cup of tea before another half stewed and unpleasant. The cooked breakfast itself was good though. All in all, it was often disappointing and not worth the very high price we paid for what was meant to be a treat for a special occasion.
Very nice staff and very good service. The only thing that could have been better was if the main course was hotter. They were only just warm enough. Other than that very good.
The 5 course tasting menu with wine flight was superb. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable somelier. ..altogether a great experience. ..as always at Swinfen Hall
Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful hotel
food was just amazing - everything was so elegant and tasty. quite expensive but quality of food justifies the price. staff were great - they were very polite and professional yet friendly :-) very sophisticated and super posh but not modern posh - decor is very traditional and unique xxxx we loved it
if you ever go there, try Guiness Bread - you wouldnt believe the quality!
Food was good-had 9 course table meal. Waiting staff seemed a tad inexperienced but enthusiastic-good night out
Food was brilliant. Service excellent. We were there to celebrate my husbands birthday and felt totally relaxed and well looked after.
