The Fox and Grapes
Alongside our Chef's Seasonal Dishes we offer a selection of classic English pub food such as fish and chips and that perennial favourite: the Burger. For a real treat, we recommend you try one of our succulent steaks cooked to perfection in our Josper Oven.
Sunday: 12pm - 8.30pm
Friendly staff, enjoyed the atmosphere. Seafood stew was amazing but the steaks ordered were rather disappointing.
We went to the Fox and Grapes for Saturday lunch. The food was good, it's a large venue with plenty of space and the staff were friendly. The only negative was that there were a lot of families with young children so the atmosphere was very loud.
The food was excellent but it took an hour for the starters to arrive. The waitress who initially took our order was not very helpful but the other staff who served us later made up for this. Overall, the excellent food made up for the slow service.
Food very good and a great place to meet for lunch but parking now difficult particularly 2:30-6:30 with residents only zone.
Great food, wine and service.
Great afternoon for my other halves birthday and one of the best roasts around.
Been here a couple of times and really enjoy going. The food is lovely, great friendly service and a lovely spot for Sunday lunch and evening gatherings with friends.
Great food and a nice little restaurant/pub but unfortunately the service was very slow and understaffed even though the restaurant was not full. We struggled to attract attention from the waiting staff without standing up and heading to the bar ourselves. A waiter was sat on the table next to us folding napkins for an hour and even though he could see we were trying to order wine he didn't help us with the order or find a colleague to help us.
Had a quiet background buzz whilst we were there conducting a quiet conversation about a fairly important matter. All plain downright good place with good food but nothing fancy or noisy. Suited our purpose perfectly
Food very good, chef added tomatoes and mushrooms for me for my steak and chips. The fish and chips could have a few more chips and slightly larger fish.
Very nice. Polite friendly staff, plenty of variety on the menu. Prompt service without feeling rushed.
Amazing quality of food on our Sunday lunch, with excellent first point of contact to seek our table. Waiting service was variable from outstanding to less interested (but that was a single staff member) and it was exceptionally busy.
My favourite Sunday roast!!! You definitely need to book in advance, and it is well worth planning ahead.
This was recommended by a friend. Have been to better places. They took ages to serve our table of 4. Food was ordinary, not bad but not great either.
Very quick service, our roast dinner came 10 minutes after we ordered. Restaurant was very noisy and full of loud children.
The service was unfortunately very poor - when we arrived we asked the head waiter for our table - he then made a phone call (whilst we were waiting in the main thorough fair by the door with a pram), and only when we rechecked with him again he told us where our table was (although the wrong table)... We then ordered 2 breads for the table and when only 1 arrived I asked him if there was another one coming, to which he sarcastically commented 'yes if we ordered it'... needless to say it didnt so we reordered with another waiter.
Usually fab pub good service and great location but the headwaiter let it all down - we just avoided asking him any questions for the rest of the meal - also it was fairly busy in the restaurant and the staff were clearly doing their best but he didn't assist them, just overlooking the restaurant - so seemingly a bit of a waste or space!
Would go back in any case.
Nice pub, let down by slow service in the kitchen and disappointing burger.
Been many times in the past and was always great, but something has changed. Our waiter forgot to greet us after we were seated and we had to flag down another waiter to bring us menus. When we ordered it turned out that they had run out of the burger my husband wanted and the red wine we were going to order. Apparently the waiter that should have greeted us should also have told us that when we arrived. We had the fish and chips instead which was fine, not outstanding. The “mushy peas” were mashed up normal peas so had a very dry, crumbly consistency which was strange. Half way through the meal, at around 6:40 pm on Sunday the place emptied out and we ended up feeling quite exposed like the few remaining tables could hear every word we said.
Initially seated at a table for two that was in a busy thoroughfare. Was moved as soon as I pulled a face (all good humoured). Beef was very rare and rather tough. Good selection of veg and Yorkie was good size. Gravy a bit thin but gave us extra jug. Didn’t stay for desert. Not sure will rush back . Felt Impersonable.
Sunday lunch was disappointing.
There was no finesse . My mushroom soup was spilt on the way to my table and was far too creamy . 3 of us had roast beef . My wife sent hers back as it was far too fatty despite her requesting no fat . The meat and veg were amateurishly thrown onto our plates finished off with an enormous , but cold Yorkshire pudding . No imagination here .
Puddings lacked much of a choice but were the best part of a disappointing meal .
Come on Fox and Grapes we ‘ve had good food with you in the past . Rumour says there’s a new owner . If so raise the game as Sunday lunch was not great .
We had a great to chat with Stuart who was behind the bar and really friendly and helpful. We had a lovely evening. It was a monday night so fairly quiet, but that suited us perfectly. I'd like to see specific Gluten Free options on the menu. I had to have my burger without a bun and it looked a bit sad!
Very overpriced roast. Food came very quickly, like it was precooked and just warmed up. Food was almost cold, vegetables were disappointed, potatoes felt frozen and the cabbage was barely cooked. Very disappointing experience all in all.
There was music on when we arrived for a business lunch and then somewhat tragically it seemed to go off, meaning there was one table just literally listening to us prattling on, with no other guests. The food is excellent, but it all felt heinously quiet and exposing.
During the week this is a peaceful place to catch up with friends for a nice meal
Unfortunately we had to ask for the menu after about 10 mins and the food was cold so we sent it back. The beef was one thick cut which seemed odd for a Sunday roast
Great Sunday roast!
My wife and I come here quite regularly. The bavette is excellent as well as being very good value.
I went to the Fox and Grapes for lunch last Friday with some friends one of whom is disabled. We had a pleasant meal although we did have to ask them to turn down the music when we arrived as it was a bit loud. There was an interesting choice of dishes on the menu, something for everyone I would say. The price was fair although we didn't drink wine which would have added somewhat to the price (we did drink beer).
The food was great and the service was attentive. The l8m9n cream dessert was outstanding.
Lovely fish and chips for lunch. The restaurant was comfortable and not too crowded mid week so a perfect time to go. This place has become a firm favourite of mine!
We were sat by the serving hatch which was like an open oven door. The manager did try to open more windows but was still very hot. Starters were okay. Chicken liver parfait was good. Main course roast dinners took 1hr 20 minutes to arrive. The meat was good but that was all. The roast potatoes ware hard and dry and had a funny taste. The Yorkshires were tasteless. The gravy also thin and tasteless. Veg was greens with hard stalks, celeriac which was mediocre. Altogether not an enjoyable experience.
Really nice find. Small menu but everything available. We all ordered different dishes and all were absolutely superb! Lovely atmosphere with the staff offering good recommendations and being professional yet friendly.
Used to work nearby many moons ago and a chance return to the area meant I could try out the Fox and Grapes for an evening meal. Inside it has changed beyond recognition but still retains it's charming ambience. Service and food were excellent and the wine list is especially good. Well worth a visit. As they have guest rooms, I would consider staying the night, next time.
Lovely Sunday lunch, kept simple but with really good quality ingredients.
Had a really nice evening with old friends. Both commented on how nice the food was and had enjoyed the evening. Noise level was good for conversation. I'm a vegetarian and really enjoyed
the vegetarian option
Really friendly chatty staff. Food was of excellent quality and they were more than happy to check my meal was gluten free.
Love the fact that it's dog friendly and I'll definitely be back with my little pooch in tow next time.
four of us ate there, 1 bavette steak, one sea bream and two fish+chips. All were excellent, especially the first two. Service friendly and effiicient as well, and there was a nice selection of beers. Our goto place when in the area.
Lovely traditional pub on the common in Wimbledon. Food was lovely and staff friendly and helpful. Can't ask for more in my opinion! Will definitely be back sooner rather than later.
A very pleasant lunch with nice food plus good, friendly service.
Dog friendly too!
Great venue for Sunday lunch - although we were curtailed from getting a taxi from the station to the Fox & Grapes due to the London Bike Ride. On arrival greeted by the manager and seated at a lovely table for 3 (2 adults and a child). Food was fresh and tasty, service was friendly and efficient. Would definitely return to the Fox & Grapes and can highly recommend for Sunday lunch.
We had a very enjoyable family lunch on Saturday. A spacious table, varied menu and excellent service.
