The Fox and Grapes
Alongside our Chef's Seasonal Dishes we offer a selection of classic English pub food such as fish and chips and that perennial favourite: the Burger. For a real treat, we recommend you try one of our succulent steaks cooked to perfection in our Josper Oven.
The service and management team are very special. Relaxed, efficient, funny and inclusive. The food for our triple birthday dinner was without fault. We regularly turn to the F and G for important but fun family occasions as they have never let us down.
Yes to a recommendation with a “but”. Booked for 6 online. 2 were late arriving and when they rang to say this, they were advised that we, who sitting in the pub, had gone to the Dog and Fox, also in Wimbledon village!! No idea why. So our meal started rather late.
Food was good. Wines a bit pricey in my opinion. Friendly service. A lot of noise though fortunately we were tucked away. Would go there again but perhaps not as a first choice.
Wonderful location and good food and service. The restaurant was busy but not packed to making it a pleasure to eat in with a friendly atmosphere.
A really nice pub to pop into and have a drink and a bite to eat. You can even bring your dog in as there are always some others in there. Service and food is great and had a good afternoon with the family
The restaurant was very busy but we were extremely well looked after. Our request on booking that we get a table with some space for a pram was arranged and we had an excellent table in a cool part of the venue. The food was excellent and the staff attentive.
A great place to combine a pub lunch with a walk on the common. Fish and chips and shepherds pie were both excellent!
On a busy Bank Holiday Sunday certain things can be overlooked, however the food at The Fox and Grapes on this occasion was somewhat lacking. The bread we ordered arrived with our starters of potted shrimp and pea soup, which were both solidly passable. The mains were where things started to unravel. The roast cauliflower was fine, however the vegan dauphinoise were a real let down - dry and claggy with an aftertaste like powdered macaroni cheese. The crab, saffron and cod rissottpo sounded fantastic, but had been poorly executed. The risotto was cooked on too high a heat, for too short a time leaving the hard rice with a bitter and burnt aftertaste. The beautiful piece of cod placed on top had been overcooked to toughness and potentially left under a heated lamp for too long. This was a real disappointment at £23. Service was, as ever, excellent. However we were not really afforded an opportunity to make a point about the disappointing main, despite the fact that most of it had been left on the plate. With the best part of £80 spent on two courses, thank heavens we didn't opt for wine.
Great food, atmosphere and very friendly service. Can’t wait for our next visit.
What fantastic food. We all had Gressingham Duck, which was absolutely fabulous. Great service and great beer to boot. It’s not cheap for pub grub but don’t let that put you off!
It's a great spot with a lovely atmosphere, but the food was beyond disappointing, verging on gross. I have eaten there before and remember it being lovely.
We were sat in a corner table and the man was so fat at the table opposite that his chair had to be pushed out a fair way, which meant that every time the waiter or waitress had to move between the two tables we got bumped into and brushed past. Not great. Not a relaxing time.
Wine was lovely!
Waitress wasn’t very professional. Didn’t know her menu, ordered incorrect drinks and food was average.
For a place usually booked out for a Sunday it wasn’t up too a standard worthy of such business.
Sadly, this has gone downhill enormously recently. This is my second very disappointing meal in a month. Fox and Grapes used to be THE place for excellent gastro food in the area, but the food is not fresh (and ours was cold) and almost feels like it has been reheated from frozen. It remains a lovely place to visit, and the service is excellent, but for the price it is sadly no longer the place to go.
I've been to this pub a few times over the years + have always found the food to be excellent if expensive. This last time I was very disappointed in the food, 3 sirloin steaks were perfectly pink + tasty but stone cold - the truffle butter stayed as a big lump on top, not even melting slightly. Two of us had the cod, saffron + prawn risotto - again, very good flavour + the cod was well cooked, but the risotto was so overcooked it was like mush. The management re-cooked the steaks + gave us a free bottle of wine but it didn't make up for the disappointing birthday meal which was not cheap.
I love the Fox & Grapes as its a perfect little pub / restaurant & the menu always reads so well. The lunch on Sunday was a little disappointing. The Sunday roast was not as good in the flesh.
I had the rump of lamb which was extremely pink / under cooked. The sinew was still hard white bits and had not had chance to render down, I'm not sure what the mashed veg was but it wasn't that nice & the gravy was dreadful. It was so watery which was a shame as you need a good gravy with a roast.
I think the menu reads better than it is actually delivered.
Great food very helpful staff but not the fastest service probably because so busy. That is probably why it was also so noisy.
Anniversary dinner with the family, food was very good, no complaints at all. Staff were friendly. It is a bit noisy, however it was a busy night, but that is my only complaint.
We go for dinner usually and it’s very very good. Decided to try the brunch as we had visitors in town over the long weekend. The service and coffee was lovely but the English breakfasts were so over cooked - burnt sausages, bacon that had been deep fried until they they resembled the texture of cardboard - even the sunny side eggs had hard yolks. Very disappointing over all considering how good an experience we have had for supper.
Always a great Sunday lunch, the beef was superb.
My favourite Wimbledon pub for Sunday lunch.
Nice gastro pub. Enjoyed the food and drink. Service was good and friendly. Would defiantly go back.
The best sea bass I’ve had. All food was excellent. Only downside is staff made us feel rushed. Plates were clear whilst one guest still chewing on last mouthful !
Great location right next to Wimbledon Common. Nice vibe, mix of groups, couples, families. Friendly staff (service a bit slower than usual on Easter Monday). Nice menu. Dog friendly, which is a big plus.
A terrible Aperol spritz for £10 is a bit rich but food is consistently good. Service is hit and miss. Today our wait staff were flirting so much we felt we were on their date!
Great place to eat, great food and great service. Shame there's nowhere to sit outside.
The extras are extortionately expensive. 4 pounds for a side plate of brocoli for one petson! A small glass of pinot grigio over 7 pounds, chunky chips for one person 4 pounds! It has become a rip off and as you can't seem to have a 1-2 dish meal much under 35 pounds each I won't go back or recommend.
Consistently good food & overall wonderful gastro pub on Wimbledon Common. Had a wonderful lunch today - spring lamb & first of the season new potatoes- heaven
we had a lovely dinner - everyone was super nice -
Dined with a friend on Saturday lunchtime. I have never been to The Fox and Grapes before, what a gorgeous place! Staff were very friendly from the moment we walked through the door, had a drink at the bar to start and then sat shortly after for lunch. The food was wonderful and service was excellent, cannot be faulted. We were recommended wine to match our food choices which was above and beyond.
A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, great food, great service and great company. Thank you to the team at The Fox and Grapes, i will definitely be coming back and will very much be recommending to my friends. Thanks xx
Very disappointing service - requested a glass of wine with food on at least three occasions from 2 separate waiting staff - never delivered and then included on the bill !
Definite deterioration in service level based on recent visits
Good food and service. A very enjoyable lunch on a rainy day!
Menu choice is limited . Food is nice but not exceptional. Nice ambience and staff very helpful.
The food was simply bad. It is very easy to cook a good saffron risotto - this was overcooked and bitter, no seasoning at all. The panna cotta was served with rhubarb compote which was too watery. I am sorry - we had high expectations.
Relaxed atmosphere, very helpful pleasant staff and surroundings. Roast sirloin melted in the mouth all accompaniments perfect companions for the beef. Tiny criticism - the gravy needed to be a little thicker. Plum and pear crumble delicious. An excellent dining experience!
Excellent food, service and ambiance as usual. Always great to take out of town Americans here! Never disappoints.
Delicious Sunday roast. Lovely atmosphere, very cosy.
Food was terrible. Main course was cold & banana bread pudding was stale.
It's a great dog-friendly pub. nice food, friendly service.
Lovely food, but the wooden floors and high ceilings means it is very loud. We waited a very long time for our main courses and then forgot our kids meal. The waitress did apologise and gave us the kids meal and a round of drinks off the bill but it was still very expensive.
Food was good and we love the venue, but service was sub-standard.
