The Garrison is a restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to their friendly neighbours and nearby businesses. The rustic modern British menu and casual atmosphere makes for the perfect place for a get-together – either for up to 30 for dinner in the Cinema Room, or at the Kitchen Table for 10View Private Dining Details
The service food, wine and cocktails were all excellent. I hadn't been for a few years and would definitely return.
Service was extremely slow. Terrible dessert that was recommended by the waitress.
Really cute pub and great atmosphere. Service was excellent. There was no vegetarian option for the Sunday roast and the only vegetarian main was really small and expensive for what it was.
Another great meal here - though you need to be prepared for the high noise level.
Seating for is a bit cramped but excellent service and food. We went out for a birthday meal and were not disappointed. Delicious fresh ingredients with unusual combinations.
Sadly our table was literally right at the front door. Frustrating every time the door opened and guest crowded around us, not to mention the chill of cold air on our backs.
The food and service was excellent.
The roast had changed. The sirloin was big, thick chunks of medium rare but tough meat. The veggies were good but given on a separate plate. The waiter was a bit rude and we spent quite a bit of money in there. I won’t be coming back.
Very slow service (15 mins to bring coffees and OJ, with one being forgotten completely), despite it being virtually empty (10am on a Sunday). Had to ask several times for butter etc. Full English breakfast was one of the worst I've had in a long time, with limp fatty bacon and sausage that had not been browned at all. My friends were equally disappointed. At £15 per breakfast this was particularly bad. I would not recommend the Garrison, it seriously needs to up its game.
I had lunch at The Garrison last weekend. The burger was great and the ambience was spot on. It’s a lovely pub, great music in the background and a nice group of people. I’ve scored four out of five instead of five because I thought the wine list was a bit overpriced for what it was. Overall, a nice place to have a glass of wine and some nice pub food at the weekend.
Over the years I’d been to The Garrison a number of times and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the pub. I’d booked a table to meet some friends and the night went well until one of our party realised her handbag was missing. It had been swiped from between her legs. We reported it to the staff who checked their cctv footage and confirmed someone had come into the restaurant, dragged my friends purse with their foot and left the restaurant.
Now clearly this is not the fault of the staff, however it became clear this was not the first time and the shrugging “oh well, pass my details to the police so they can retrieve the footage” didn’t land too well.
If this is a known problem then some signs to remain vigilant, hooks under the table or just the staff watching the door. We were well into the restaurant and did not expect to have to watch our belongings to such an extent.
Then the bill was delivered. Again I did wonder if the woman who had no means to pay might have been let off but no, we split her bill so they were not out of pocket and we left to assist our friend with reporting the theft and getting her home.
They can’t stop crime but if it’s a regular problem they could of at least made us aware.
Hi, Thank you for writing to us and completely understand how this ruined your evening. However we do have security bag hooks on every table and a sign at the entrance. It isn't something the restaurant experiences often but unfortunately in London, something we all need to be aware of. As explained on the day, with the laws surrounding CCTV we can only give you a certain amount of information, but gave you all our details so that we can fully work with the police on this matter.
A classic London Gastropub. It’s been a great pub before the term was even invented. Menu is small and changes regularly as well as three or four specials each day. Can be noisy when really busy but that’s all part of the charm.
Delicious (if not exactly cheap) food, good wine selection, great service, cosy atmosphere - always a hit, and cut above other places on bermondsey Street.
Friendly service though a little slow. The chips were too salty but the burger was perfect (and I'm fussy)!
Will be back.
My friend loved the sea bream!
We used to visit the Garrison really often and we were always satisfied. However, we had not been there the last 9 months and the difference was tremendous! The prices increased a lot whereas the dishes were just ok and definitely not worth their price. Disappointed
It has a really cosy, neighbourhood feel. Try and book one of the booth tables so you're not too close to the door and bar. The waiters were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. I recommend it for a nice meal catching up with friends! Will definitely go back.
Overall the food was lovely and interesting choices. However it was a bit more expensive than I would've expected. It was good but not that good for what we paid. Also open table booking limited options on booking times by chance we arrived 30 minutes earlier than booked & there were lots of empty tables. Recommend you liaise with them on managing booking choices more accurately.
Excellent, everything lovely, made better by getting a last minute appointment.
But why serve sticky toffee pudding with almonds!?!? Especially without asking or yelling the customer!
The vibe is great and food is British but contemporary and we’ll prepared. Been going for years and always consistently a great overall experience
Wow. I am a local resident and have been to the Garrison on multiple occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the food. However, when we went for breakfast/brunch this Sunday, I unfortunately ended up having a very poor experience and as a result will not be coming back for food any time soon.
Having booked a table for 9:45am, our waitress finally came over at 10am to take our coffee and drinks order. I had to be away by 11:15am to go to an appointment and assumed 1.5 hours should be ample time to have a coffee and some avocado toast. Apparently not. We ordered coffee, juice (tap water which had been forgotten and which i had to go and get myself), and food for 4. (One fry up, 2 veggie fry ups, 1 avocado and chilli on toast).
I should mention at this point that we were put on a table in the corner away from the main area and the lights weren't switched on. I asked at 9:45 for the lights to be turned on. They figured out how to do it at 10:30...
20 minutes after ordering our food and drinks, after trying to catch the eyes of the 2 waitresses who seemed to not notice us being there, we were served our coffees, they had forgotten the juice.
After 50 minutes, we were served our food - the avocado a thin brown layer on some dry sourdough bread. All of the eggs were hard and rubbery and one of the dishes was completely incorrect. We ended up returning everything and offering to pay for the drinks but we had neither the time nor willpower to wait for the food to be corrected. The one positive is that we were told we didn't have to pay for the coffee and juice. An hour and a half not very well spent!
I hope that this is a blip for the Garrison, honestly we have had some great meals there. But we did not feel at all looked after this time and it's a real shame. I'm afraid that with all of the other options in the area where I've enjoyed impeccable service and food, you will not be seeing me in the Garrison any time soon. Very sad :(
Typical London pub. Good tasty although pok belly was just a little chewy for my taste.
Lovely venue, great service & accommodated my request for a quiet table. Mixed food experience, pasta was ok, mussels a little chewy, but lamb very delicious.
Not at all impressed with the food
i've been to this restaurant 5/6 times and it has been consistently good. Great atmosphere, great staff, lovely but simple unpretentious food.
A lovely evening - perfect venue for catching up with a good friend. Ambience and service were perfect - bustling but not too loud. The food was good, especially the burrata starter.
The Garrison is not a pub - it's better. Great food and ambiance with an attentive staff. We had dinner and the fish was perfectly cooked. Starters were delicious and our waiter was extremely attentive
A favourite place to dine, we have never been disappointed with our choices. The food is well prepared and very tasty. It’s good to see an open kitchen.
The staff are welcoming and helpful.
It can sometimes be a little noisy, but that’s probably because it’s a popular venue, and this would not put me off.
A local favourite
Not great. The staff were lovely but very slow and inept. The roast dinner had overcooked beef when I requested medium rare, dry stale roast potatoes and undercooked carrots, plus the wine is overpriced. The desserts were amazing however. Cost £120 for three roast dinners, a bottle of wine and three desserts. Disappointed
Lovely food and great friendly and attentive service.
A little hot in there with quite a bit of bright low hanging lighting but overall a nice atmosphere.
Will definitely be back!
Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the roast and specials. Ambience was perfect and service as expected from a nearly full house establishment
Lovely Sunday roast :)
We booked here at the last minute for a quick lunch on a Saturday. The place was very busy but we were shown to a high table straight away. The service was very attentive and the speed of delivery was superb. Good choice of food and drink and all very well and freshly cooked. The restaurant has a very good atmosphere and is great for a social lunch for larger groups. Will definitely be back
Exceptional service and delicious food, second visit to this little gem and will definitely return.
The grass fed beef was truly excellent. Service a little off tonight but we can let you guys off just this once
Great restaurant in the heart of Bermondsey St. Service, ambiance always great, food very good- always delicious and innovative menu options. Very pricey for the overall experience.
We used to live in the neighborhood and frequented the Garrison. This was before Bermondsey became a really big night out, apparently. The neighborhood has a change, more hipster, and the Garrison went in that direction. We used to love this place but I don't think we'll be making the trip again.
We visited for lunch on Saturday and our order (table of 4) took 45 mins to arrive which we thought was rather long.. when we asked half hour after waiting they said it was because one of us was having a well done steak (cooking guidelines are approximately 6-7 mins for a well done steak). The food was good and overall the Garrison is good but were disappointed we had to wait that long and had to rush our food.
Really disappointing. Last visited several years ago and was looking forward to going back but was so underwhelming.
We had to ask three times for the special 3 course menu.
The kale salad with avocado aubergine and pomegranate was missing two of the three- and was basically spinach leaves and pomegranate. And the flank steak was practically inedible.
Waiter was friendly but had very limited English.
Desserts thankfully were pretty good so something finally went Ok.
Such a shame
Had a lovely evening but I was hoping for classic / more traditional gastro pub menu. What on earth is a London Burrata with pesto!? Just ridiculous. Service is OK
Very poor service had to wait over 30 mins for mains and dessert
Very noisy and not enough waiters for the restaurant
