Delicious food, new chef & would be happy to come back! We had 2 toddlers & an early table. Despite no kids menu they were happy to amend adult menu to suit kids needs. Great European food.
Far to expensive. Small portions. Very expensive for what you get
Have visited many times over many years and the food is always amazing. Had 3 courses and every one was both beautiful to look at and full of flavour. Introduced a friend and she was so impressed and will be back. Lively, warm atmosphere and very friendly staff. Would highly recommend.
Love eating at the Garrison. Great wine list, fantastic food and wonderful atmosphere
Everything was great except despite having pre-booked a table, and not being informed of this beforehand after we finished eating mains (which at which point we had only been on the table for an hour) we weren't offered dessert menus, instead told they would need the table back in 10 minutes.
Luckily it wasn't actually an issue for us as we had been planning on going anyway, however think it's bad form that if they needed the table turned around in only an hour they should inform us at the point of booking, or at least when we first sat down.
I arrived at 10.25, just ahead of my booking time of 10.30. Having waited by the door for a while I realised that the 'reception' was at the bar where one man was making drinks and another seemingly the only waiter for the day. Having been acknowledged I was asked to wait whilst he took food and drink to a few tables. Once he had time he seated me in a nice booth and left me to peruse the menu. After 10 minutes i realised that to get any service I would need to flag him down, which I did, and ordered a pot of tea and a glass of water whilst I waited for my friend to arrive (her train had been delayed). 20 minutes later, when my friend arrived, I was still waiting for the water and the tea (yet other tables had been brought water) so we left, dissatisfied, and then enjoyed a fabulous breakfast, and great service, at the nearby The Loyal.
Food was uncooked and had to be sent back but staff were apologetic and took off the bill. Really lovely pub but we were stuck in the corner so didn't experience the ambience. Shame as food was delicious.
Great good and vibes. Service not great and was rushed out at the end even though we were seated late.
Other than some options being unavailable due to ours being a late table, though that doesn’t explain the wine running out?
Table by the door which is never my first choice
The food was very good indeed
The staff could not be more helpful
We had a great night
In a city of so much great choice The Garrison remains one destination we return to and will continue to do so.
Food was lovely and service great, will definitely be returning!
Really lovely. Only minor comment is that the fish & chips came with fries not chunky chips.
Quality has declined since frst visit a few years ago. Waitress was no good, think it may have been her first day and didn't know much about the dishes. Clueless in fact - lack of training. Service slow and food very ordinary.
This was our first visit to the Garrison in trendy Bermondsey. A very busy buzzy shabby chic pub, obviously popular. We had the Sunday lunch. The service was a little slow but we didn’t mind too much. I had chicken with all the trimmings and my partner ordered the beef. The food was nicely cooked but disappointingly just warm. We expected the food to be hot. I think they’re over stretching themselves at the expense of quality, which is a pity. I’m not sure we’d return.
The food is fantastic as usual, but prices have gone up and the portion of the lamb main was ridiculous for the price. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to pay £22 for good food, but at least it should be more on the plate. The portion of the Courgette carpaccio was also on the stingy side for the price of £8. Delicious but overpriced for the portion.
Shame! Plates are presented beautifully and the service is great as usual.
Dessert was excellent!
Good food in a friendly neighbourhood... The Garrison is a local favourite.
Good food, well presented and friendly, professional service.
I always enjoy visiting the Garrison - consistently good food and friendly service - my go to place for lunch or supper when I’m near London Bridge.
Very nice atmosphere and tasty food. The desert was delicious!
Delicious food, service relatively slow, but it was very busy - the bottomless Prosecco lunch seemed very popular. Quite loud.
The service food, wine and cocktails were all excellent. I hadn't been for a few years and would definitely return.
Service was extremely slow. Terrible dessert that was recommended by the waitress.
Really cute pub and great atmosphere. Service was excellent. There was no vegetarian option for the Sunday roast and the only vegetarian main was really small and expensive for what it was.
Another great meal here - though you need to be prepared for the high noise level.
Seating for is a bit cramped but excellent service and food. We went out for a birthday meal and were not disappointed. Delicious fresh ingredients with unusual combinations.
Sadly our table was literally right at the front door. Frustrating every time the door opened and guest crowded around us, not to mention the chill of cold air on our backs.
The food and service was excellent.
The roast had changed. The sirloin was big, thick chunks of medium rare but tough meat. The veggies were good but given on a separate plate. The waiter was a bit rude and we spent quite a bit of money in there. I won’t be coming back.
Very slow service (15 mins to bring coffees and OJ, with one being forgotten completely), despite it being virtually empty (10am on a Sunday). Had to ask several times for butter etc. Full English breakfast was one of the worst I've had in a long time, with limp fatty bacon and sausage that had not been browned at all. My friends were equally disappointed. At £15 per breakfast this was particularly bad. I would not recommend the Garrison, it seriously needs to up its game.
I had lunch at The Garrison last weekend. The burger was great and the ambience was spot on. It’s a lovely pub, great music in the background and a nice group of people. I’ve scored four out of five instead of five because I thought the wine list was a bit overpriced for what it was. Overall, a nice place to have a glass of wine and some nice pub food at the weekend.
Over the years I’d been to The Garrison a number of times and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the pub. I’d booked a table to meet some friends and the night went well until one of our party realised her handbag was missing. It had been swiped from between her legs. We reported it to the staff who checked their cctv footage and confirmed someone had come into the restaurant, dragged my friends purse with their foot and left the restaurant.
Now clearly this is not the fault of the staff, however it became clear this was not the first time and the shrugging “oh well, pass my details to the police so they can retrieve the footage” didn’t land too well.
If this is a known problem then some signs to remain vigilant, hooks under the table or just the staff watching the door. We were well into the restaurant and did not expect to have to watch our belongings to such an extent.
Then the bill was delivered. Again I did wonder if the woman who had no means to pay might have been let off but no, we split her bill so they were not out of pocket and we left to assist our friend with reporting the theft and getting her home.
They can’t stop crime but if it’s a regular problem they could of at least made us aware.
Hi, Thank you for writing to us and completely understand how this ruined your evening. However we do have security bag hooks on every table and a sign at the entrance. It isn't something the restaurant experiences often but unfortunately in London, something we all need to be aware of. As explained on the day, with the laws surrounding CCTV we can only give you a certain amount of information, but gave you all our details so that we can fully work with the police on this matter.
A classic London Gastropub. It’s been a great pub before the term was even invented. Menu is small and changes regularly as well as three or four specials each day. Can be noisy when really busy but that’s all part of the charm.
Delicious (if not exactly cheap) food, good wine selection, great service, cosy atmosphere - always a hit, and cut above other places on bermondsey Street.
Friendly service though a little slow. The chips were too salty but the burger was perfect (and I'm fussy)!
Will be back.
My friend loved the sea bream!
We used to visit the Garrison really often and we were always satisfied. However, we had not been there the last 9 months and the difference was tremendous! The prices increased a lot whereas the dishes were just ok and definitely not worth their price. Disappointed
It has a really cosy, neighbourhood feel. Try and book one of the booth tables so you're not too close to the door and bar. The waiters were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious. I recommend it for a nice meal catching up with friends! Will definitely go back.
Overall the food was lovely and interesting choices. However it was a bit more expensive than I would've expected. It was good but not that good for what we paid. Also open table booking limited options on booking times by chance we arrived 30 minutes earlier than booked & there were lots of empty tables. Recommend you liaise with them on managing booking choices more accurately.
Excellent, everything lovely, made better by getting a last minute appointment.
But why serve sticky toffee pudding with almonds!?!? Especially without asking or yelling the customer!
The vibe is great and food is British but contemporary and we’ll prepared. Been going for years and always consistently a great overall experience
Wow. I am a local resident and have been to the Garrison on multiple occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the food. However, when we went for breakfast/brunch this Sunday, I unfortunately ended up having a very poor experience and as a result will not be coming back for food any time soon.
Having booked a table for 9:45am, our waitress finally came over at 10am to take our coffee and drinks order. I had to be away by 11:15am to go to an appointment and assumed 1.5 hours should be ample time to have a coffee and some avocado toast. Apparently not. We ordered coffee, juice (tap water which had been forgotten and which i had to go and get myself), and food for 4. (One fry up, 2 veggie fry ups, 1 avocado and chilli on toast).
I should mention at this point that we were put on a table in the corner away from the main area and the lights weren't switched on. I asked at 9:45 for the lights to be turned on. They figured out how to do it at 10:30...
20 minutes after ordering our food and drinks, after trying to catch the eyes of the 2 waitresses who seemed to not notice us being there, we were served our coffees, they had forgotten the juice.
After 50 minutes, we were served our food - the avocado a thin brown layer on some dry sourdough bread. All of the eggs were hard and rubbery and one of the dishes was completely incorrect. We ended up returning everything and offering to pay for the drinks but we had neither the time nor willpower to wait for the food to be corrected. The one positive is that we were told we didn't have to pay for the coffee and juice. An hour and a half not very well spent!
I hope that this is a blip for the Garrison, honestly we have had some great meals there. But we did not feel at all looked after this time and it's a real shame. I'm afraid that with all of the other options in the area where I've enjoyed impeccable service and food, you will not be seeing me in the Garrison any time soon. Very sad :(
Typical London pub. Good tasty although pok belly was just a little chewy for my taste.
Lovely venue, great service & accommodated my request for a quiet table. Mixed food experience, pasta was ok, mussels a little chewy, but lamb very delicious.
