The Gate Hammersmith
Lovely restaurant and staff but the food was average , we ordered plantain to find it came in 2 small dry balls , small portions and overpriced wine , it certainly wasn't a £100 meal but great for a lunch or after work dinner .
Went for dinner before a show - food was incredible! Would highly recommend.
Great vegetarian restaurant, food is amazing and very filling. Service is a bit slow but overall staff are very friendly and would definitely visit again.
Sadly the vegetarian Sunday Roast was already off the menu by 6.30 in the evening and the alternative vegetarian red thai curry although very tasty very lacking in vegetables, more like a broth. Assume whoever orders the food not ordering enough or they are pushing the margin by reducing the content which won't encourage repeat custom. Shame as everything very tasty and service excellent
I booked a table at The Gate through Open Table, and only one hour before the booked time, I was informed by the restaurant that there was a problem with the communication from Open Table, and that there was not a table available for me at the time booked. Very disappointing, and will not use Open Table again. In future I will communicate with any restaurant directly.
Didn’t start well when the restaurant didn’t have our reservation made through Open Table and the staff were initially quite dismissive.
We requested to sit at a table for 2 on the side as there were plenty empty but they said we must sit in the middle for no apparent reason.
My partners food was overly charred but generally the food was tasty.
I might return but not in a hurry.
I found this on google as one of the top 10 places to eat near the Hammersmith Apollo and it did not disappoint. Great lively atmosphere and the food was fantastic! The service was a little inconsistent and it was clear they were a little stretched which I understand as I work in the industry myself. Great little find! Loved it.
The platter of starters was minute for £11pp and @ £22 for 2 thought it excessive. However, the red Thai curry was to die for and my friends enjoyed the tacos and the pad Thai immensely. The presentation of all food was excellent.
Went with two good friends and food and flavours were amazing. Great variety and hearty options. Staff were all lovely and accommodating for any special requests. Have already recommended to friends and will go back!
Best Vegan this side of London, wonderful staff.
Outside dining space could do with creativity and attention!
Excellent cocktails and food, highly recommend and will be back!
Excellent meal at The Gate. Lovely menu, great staff and location. We will definitely return!
Great vegan meal!
Love the sangria on new menu!
Arancini and strawberry mousse also delicious.
friendly service but a little bit slow at busy time.
overall excellent place!
Was so disappointed with my visit to The Gate Hammersmith. I've been here a few times over the years and have always raved about it but this time was so disappointing. First of all I asked for a table outside - but was told that you couldn't reserve a table outside as they were first come/first served. Was happy when I arrived so see no one sitting outside (though it didn't look ready for service and was looking a bit sad for itself). Went in and asked to be seated outside (it was a really hot evening with no forecast of rain) but was told that they didn't have staff to have people sit outside - and that rain was forecast (the latter not true - we're having a heatwave!). If they'd have told me that when I booked or when I spoke to them about 2 hours earlier to confirm - I would never have gone there. There are 100s of restaurants I could have chosen to go to in London where I could sit outside - so was really annoyed about this. Also one of our number was a child around 4 years old - so outside would have been so much better for them too. The table we were given inside was butted right up again a wall so as we were 6 people would have meant everyone having to get up from one side of the table if someone wanted to get out. I asked to move table which they happily did - but why set up a table for 6 like that in the first place? The food was OK - I liked mine (had the aubergine starter and main) but other people said there's was OK - but nothing to rave about. They'd run out of orange juice (why they couldn't go and buy some from the local shop is utterly beyond me) and also I think carrot juice and one other. Overall - a really unsatisfactory experience. I really hope you sort yourselves out The Gate - and return to the form I know you have in you. X
We know the brand of The Gate, having been twice to the one at the Angel Islington. We enjoyed being outside in the courtyard, we enjoyed having a real choice of vegetarian meals and we enjoyed the presentation of each course. We found the serving staff very friendly, helpful and prompt.
It was slightly hard to find the venue, tucked away in a side street of Hammersmith. The food was quite pricey for the amount on the plate but probably fair enough given the postcode.
Amazing food and lovely location. Service was a little slow but professional and friendly. Would recommend.
Unusual idea of vegetarian menu only but the dishes we chose were nicely presented and tasty. Only gripe is drinks seem expensive, my bottled beer was more than five pounds and actually was served at room temp on a warm sunny evening. Otherwise good.
We had a brilliant meal, the waitresses were very friendly and presumably the chefs, we also on form. Very pleasant experience
This is one of the best vegetarian/ vegan restaurants in London. Wonderful inventive dishes that you will enjoy even if you are not a vegetarian or vegan. Highly recommend the Green Dragon salad - delicious. Helpful friendly staff, lovely room and perfect location for pre-show supper, 2 mins walk from Eventim Apollo. My only complaint is with the acoustics it can get quite noisy when full.
I hope they were just having an off day! 16th May, we went for our anniversary and it was a total shambles. Waited at least 10 mins to be seated, waited 30 mins to order, food arrived 1.5 hrs after we arrived. Plates on top of plates, no one clearing tables. None of our sides ever appeared, even after repeatedly chasing. All the diners were having to leave tables to ask to order/pay/chase food, drinks, cutlery. The staff kept their eyes down and bolted past the tables before you could grab them to ask to order. They didn't seem to care much. If they had just apologised to everyone and explained they were having problems people wouldn't have been a bit more understanding and everyone would not have gotten so peeved.
I really like the food at The Gate and I hope that the issues they were experiencing will be resolved if I ever go again. We just had to laugh by the end of it and we agreed it was the worst anniversary experience we'd ever had. Food was alright though, when it came (minus the sides!)
First rate meals. Great presentation and great taste
Excellent selection of dishes on the menu and food is excellent. Service was very good too.
Stunning food and impressive service with a genuine intention to please every diner. The restaurant was completely full- 52 covers- yet the staff smiled throughout, attended swiftly, arranged alternatives to cater for allergies and wholly supported the phenomenal kitchen. The chef and team work from a tiny space and produced absolutely delicious and inventive vegetarian works of art. Worth a trip from Wiltshire!
I had an awful experience here. When we arrived we were ignored by 3 members of staff, all of whom gave eye contact and just chose to carry on about their business. When we finally were noticed we were seated and given two of the correct menus and two incorrect ones. When a waiter came over to assist he went away to get the two correct menus and then proceeded to have a conversation with his colleagues while we waited for said menus. We moved on and ordered our food, we ordered all three courses at the same time. The starter arrived and was lovely, we then waiter a whole hour for our main course. I alerted a male waiter, I asked how long for our main and he shrugged and said soon. I wqs so upset I asked for a manager and he replied I am the supervisor in charge. I was so angry that this gut who didn't seem to care at all about the disasters we had encountered, was in the guy in charge. Moving on, our main courses arrrived and we ate those. We then patiently waited for our dessert. It took a while so once again I asked the waiter that took the complete order. He denied ever having put all three courses through. The entire meal from start to finish was a shambles. In the end I just asked for the bill as I wanted to leave, the guy insisted the dessert would arrive in 2 mins and that it would be complimentary. We stayed and ate the dessert. After dessert we asked for the bill, to wrap all this up in a messy bow; we paid the full amount only to be accused in front of other diners that we were £20 short. I assure you we wasn't, the waiter that made the accusation was so sure. To save face I just gave him £20. He took it away, went to the till and realised his mistake. He didn't have the common decency to apologise himself, instead he sent his female co-worker to hand me the £20 back along with an apology. It is safe to say I am mortified by what I experienced on Sunday 30th April at this restaurant and on this basis I don't feel I could return.
The whole concept of the restaurant is brilliant - airy with big windows that make the place friendly even on a cloudy day.
I attended the Sunday lunch with my friends who are omni eaters, but they enjoyed the food - the highlights were miso glazed aubergine, mushroom risotto for me and Sunday Wellington roast for the others and caramelised pear with meringue dessert. The other dishes we tried were equally lovely, but the ones mentioned above blew our mind.
Service was kind and tact, they made us enjoy the beautiful food even more!
Very good vegetarian. Mushroom risotto is our favourite. Never disappoints.
Fresh and inspired food that I want to recreate! Just lovely to have so many choices in one place
A great restaurant that I have been visiting for the last 20 years.
Excellent food, as always!!!
I usually avoid vegetarian food as it always seems to be "ok but better with meat" but the food at the Gate surprised me, the dishes stand on their own, they don't need meat because the combination of ingredients provides such flavour that you don't miss it and at the end I didn't feel like a glutton.
Lovely. This must be one of the best veggie/vegan restaurants in London. Delicious, imaginative food. Service was a bit slow on our night - they were busy with a mostly full house and a birthday party , but very friendly.
One word, delicious!
We had an amazing NYE dinner. Everything was perfect from the service to the food & wine. Thank you so much! Have a happy 2018!
Our time was lovely. Food and service was fantastic.
We had a family supper. Our daughter and I loved the food which was vegetarian but inventive and delicious. My husband being a meat or fish man was not so impressed but he agreed the dishes he selected were delicious.
The decor is simple and a bit severe for the evening so perhaps nicer at lunchtime. But the wine list had some good wines at all prices and we had a nice evening.
All fine - nice veggie restaurant!
Excellent food and great value!!
Loved it - everything was really good!
need to go there more often!
Can be a bit pricey but worth it still
Dessert was the weakest link. Do not use the word cheesecake because the customer is expecting a certain texture and mouth feel when the coffee cheesecake on offer only feels like whipping cream. Such a disappointment to end the meal.
There were a lot of small tables rammed into what would otherwise be a pleasant space, making it very tight and noisy. We felt that meals were very overpriced (albeit tasty) based almost entirely on vegetables with almost no protein (e.g. beans, lentils, cheese) in sight. My tasty curry was billed as containing tofu. I found two tiny cubes. The net result was that I was starving and hour later!
