Very pleased with lunch- 3 courses offer. First time I tried who’s restaurant. We both liked the starters (burrata and duck liver parfait). The mains were also good. I particularly liked the sea bream with the risotto (great combination). My friend liked his clam tagliatelle. The desserts were also nice. High ceiling added to the atmosphere. Good service. If you have time for long lunch (about 2 hours), this is a wonderful place to enjoy the experience.
I like the place and we often go to the restaurant but this time we were slightly disappointed by the food. My husband found the rib eye not tender enough and we both share a crème brûlée which did not look like home made at all ( with caramel too sticky and the crème too thick) .
Both glasses of wine were delicious ( I took a white Bourgogne and my husband red Italian) and the carte by the glass offers a great choice.
We both enjoyed our starters I chose the scallop and my husband the lamb dish.
I love coming here with my close friends, everything about the Gilbert Scott is perfect 👌.
Great food. Good portions. Got to meet the man himself, Marcus W, which was an added bonus to our delicious lunch!
The table wasn't great and the food was good but not great. A little disappointed...
Another excellent meal!
Food was nothing special. Grand ambience and some friendly waiters.
Poor value and service was a bit weird. Food was good however.
Food was real. Service was inattentive, we had to work hard to get attention, repeatedly, despite being on a central and visible table.
Our party of 4 had used an OpenTable offer of 3 courses plus a cocktail for £30.
The staff were very welcoming and our cocktail was served very quickly. However it took ages for our starter and subsequently our main courses to arrive. In fact we were there for nearly 3 hours! To be fair we were offered (and accepted) a free drink. However we would have preferred prompter service.
set lunch deal was delicious and affordable in a beautiful setting
Fantastic set menu with fancy cocktail. Lots of choice for vegetarians.
Food and overall service was good, but we ordered a bottle of wine that when served, obviously was bad. It smelled like ammonia, strongly, and tasted like vinegar. All five people at our table agreed. But, the wine server argued with us over the bottle, claiming that the odor and taste was the wine's "style." That was ridiculous and insulting. Finally, the server agreed to take back the bottle and we ordered a different bottle that was good. For a very expensive restaurant, that was shameful service on the part of the staff.
We booked the set menu (having phoned and confirmed that we are able to have this at 18:45) to be told that it was only up to 18:00. We were told ‘terms and conditions’ apply. It was quite embarrassing as it was a group of work colleagues. The waiter agreed to serve the set menu - but did not give us the allocated glass of sparkling wine, despite asking numerous times. There was also no crab left as a starter - and we had to pay a supplement for its ‘replacement’.
I’ve been to the Gilbert Scott multiple times before - including hosting 10 people at the chefs table. I feel this experience fell way short of what I would expect of such an esteemed establishment. The communication has prior to the night was obviously lost - causing great embarrassment.
Wonderful food, great service, highly recommended
good but not particularly innovative food, good and surprisingly well priced wines and a lovely room
Always love GS. Fabulous food and service. Never ever disappointed
My favourite London restaurant. Simply brilliant! For me this place should have a star- much better all round than many with the accolade
Table of four ladies who had been here before on several occasions I the past.
Sadly NOT up to its usual standard particularly the food. Two of the ladies sent back their mains as they were burnt!!!! Service also lacking. Drinks very over priced
Sadly I think Marcus Waring would be very unhappy had he been serve the food we received. Very sad!!!!
Regular visitor... disappointing service, long waits, and excuse of being too busy with half the tables empty...? Mostly enjoyable food except one guests was inedible.. alternative was offered but far too late..
On arrival the coat check girl started taken our coat and then decided we may not be admitted!
The service was extremely professional and friendly. Did like the coat check girl said we needed to give up our table by 8.30!
The food was poor salmon was tasteless, the Ox cheek was really tough and unless you ordered vegetables the plate was empty!! The apple crumble was good except far too much sugar in the apple
Would I eat there again NO, it a shame that the Kitchen and reception let the side down especially when we down just under 500 pounds!
They hide the price of the 'free' cava they give you. We asked for the bottle,.it was £75. Cava. Would never go back.
Met a very good friend I’d not seen in over 15 years and the food, service and ambiance made the occasion even more memorable
It's always a very good experience dining at Gilbert Scott. Excellent dishes cooked to high quality combined with impeccable service. I specially recomme d the lamb and duck mains. I take my friends here when I want to get pampered with a nice meal in a lovely setting.
Lovely to go to GS as usual. As it was Sunday we opted for the Sunday Roast. It was surprising to see ‘Whole Plaice’ as an option, so ordered that in anticipation.
Starters were marvellous (cured salmon x1 and grilled mackerel x1 - both delicious!)
The plaice arrived, on the nine and was served with the usual Roast lunch trimmings: roasted potatoes, yorkshires, roast carrots and broccoli (interestingly dressed with pesto -yum). The trimmings were really good and the fish was moist and lovely but as a lunch combo was a bit challenging to eat as there was no sauce or gravy to moisten the carbs.
We shared the apple crumble dessert, mainly because my cheese loving companion wasn’t excited by the offerings on the cheese plate, nonetheless it was really delicious.
We’ve been to GS on a few occasions before and will happily continue to return
The vegetable that came with all the dishes were bitterly salty! They replaced with some very tough cabbage which was like chewing straws. Slow service even the place was not full and it was difficult to get a waiter or waitress's attention after the main course was served. I have been to this place several time due to being close to King Cross to meet up for meeting. This was the worse experience.
Excellent, as always.
Friendly staff. Really tasty food. One of the best value set menus out there!
Beautiful setting but the food was average and my fish was so under-cooked it was inedible
Great food, attentive service . We had the 3 course menu. Good selection and very good value, with a glass of bubbles included. We’ll be back to dine from the a la cadre menu as there were so many interesting dishes to try.,
Beautiful room, attentive service and lovely food. Wine a little pricey.
The food was great and the staff were incredibly attentive.
We had to send the ox main dish back but we were comped considerably well, I think they were embarrassed.
There was such a lovely ambiance with the stately architecture and high ceilings- beautifully ornate. The food had good flavour but definitely quite calorie dense. The manager was on hand to make sure we were having a good experience and to chat which was nice.
The Gilbert Scott is one of my favourite places. The building is beautiful, the staff attentive & professional & the food is excellent. We used an Open Table offer & had a free glass of a really exceptional Prosecco to start, plus 3 courses of really divine food. As it wasn’t birthday, they also brought a wonderful cake with candle. We had a lovely time. As we arrived early we also enjoyed cocktails in “George’s Bar”—fantastic drinks in a magical room. All highly recommended!
Wonderful food. Beautiful strong. Exceptional service. Would recommend to all
Food was lovely and the waiters who served us were all excellent.
Wonderful friendly service and delicious food; super table for six in semi-circle that was great for conversation.
I thought the setting was outstanding. Don't miss sitting in the bar for a drink first or walking past the grand staircase for a taste of 1930's style. Dinners were very good and not over priced. Wine list with some gems. We had a not so great experience on the service side which by my observation of the dining room was not characteristic of what I saw going on at other tables. Unfortunately this emphasised how uninterested and unfriendly our waitress was. It was like a little bit of France nestled in the middle of a restaurant in London.
Went to celebrate an engagement with family and the staff were great. They were more than happy to accommodate a vegan guest for the set meal, and gave us a celebration plate for the engagement.
