As usual a great experience, friendly staff, good food and nice surroundings.
We had a lovely meal with friends (on neighbouring tables) and it was almost as if Covid had never happened. There is a great selection of wines, spirits the sommelier is on hand for questions. All staff were polite, helpful & friendly and the food is fantastic (the potatoes were particularly delicious). I’d like more dessert options, but otherwise it was a super night out. Thank you!
Very nice meal. Not rushed. Had to ask for the set menu which was a bit naughty but good value overall.
Amazing food, first class service and beautiful setting. Would highly recommend.
Excellent fine dining experience as anticipated. Stunning room in a magnificient building.
Excellent food, great atmosphere. Helpful and friendly service. Cocktails at the bar-amazing! Every effort made to be COVID safe.
Beautiful Victorian dining room with a really high ceiling so perfect in these ties. Great value £35 menu including a cocktail. We had celeriac soup, duck parfait (this was really good), sea bream, steak, espresso sort serve and salted caramel tart. All delicious. Service was top notch.
Excellent five course dinner with nice mix in the flight of wines to add some interest. Friendly attentive service. Bravo.
Not been in some time, and a solo visit as the first seating for lunch in the midst of a pandemic was probably not the *best* time to return. The food was lovely and service attentive. The celeriac and pear soup was delicious. I will probably wait until after the pandemic to return again though.
Good food, attentive but un-obtrusive service, all dishes introduced and explained. great architecture and decor.
Came here for friends dinner. The ambience is always very nice but sadly the 3 course for £30 deal is very poor value and tasteless. The salmon starter consisted of a the tiniest thinnest piece of salmon atop of some sort of Philadelphia cheese (that’s al!) the main was beef, it was almost boiled and pretty tasteless (seemed sous vide but still pretty joyless). Ordered extra vegetables for side but again very STINGY portions.
The service was quite distracted. Avoid if you are looking fr good value for money..
A fabulous lunch to celebrate a birthday. The set menu is excellent cake. Delicious food, very friendly attentive service and great ambiance. A really delightful experience and highly recommended
Once again a fantastic meal, two Sundays in a row and already contemplating next week.
Food was delicious, staff very attentive and the reception gave a very warm and friendly welcome baring in mind we had changed our table time 3 times.
Wonderful food, wine and service.
We really enjoy our experience and we thank the staff for their great services
Great place. good value. I will go there again.
The service is good
I have eaten Sunday Lunch many times at the Gilbert Scott and the food last Sunday was exceptional. We had the prix fixe. The staff are super professional, the wine selection excellent and fairly priced and the dining room with its yellow walls a bastion of old England. A particular thanks to our young waiter Alfie who went out of his way to make sure our meal was perfect.
I felt the table of four was strange, they had removed the big round tables which would be perfect for helping with social distancing. Instead we were on a small rectangular table which felt too small and in each other’s faces too much.
Felt very safe the staff have worked very hard - as usual - great food and wine and took advantage of the 3 course set menu and the eat out offer
We had a wonderful evening at The Gilbert Scott, opting for the set menu (3 courses and a cocktail) which was incredible value for money. The restaurant itself is beautiful, and the staff were very friendly and professional. Our food was delicious and had an element of excitement in the presentation (starters of cured salmon and pork terrine were particularly spectacular). We will definitely go back. We felt we had a high quality restaurant experience at a really affordable price.
Excellent food with plenty of choice for my daughter who is vegan. Great cocktails. Attentive and knowledgable staff
Excellent service and delicious food which was well presented. The set menu with additional discount was very good value. The staff were obviously well-trained. All in all a perfect lunch.
Great service and food - dined both on Saturday
Evening and Sunday lunch. Best roast lunch I have had to date
Good food , nice atmosphere
Wonderful room, but a little bit lacking in ambience. We went for the set menu, really nice cocktail, we both chose pork and chicken terrine and smoked haddock gratin. Both were very good. Desserts, salted caramel tart and espresso soft serve also very nice. Couple of glasses of white were very drinkable. Service very efficient and attentive. A nice lunch but lacked a bit of oomph!
We found the staff very attentive and the food was outstanding, but there were a few issues at the beginning with the knife and fork placed wrongly, but this was a minor niggle.
There also no toilet paper in the women's toilet. Another small niggle.
Sometimes it's the little things that make it 5 stars.
A disappointing evening unfortunately.
On first impressions this place is classy & the building is stunning. Unfortunately this was the highlight of our 10th Anniversary evening at the Gilbert Scott.
You will need to take a mobile phone with you ( which I did not, as I can survive without a phone on me at all times ) as the restaurant would rather you look at the menu after scanning a barcode on the table. An A4 card menu for the food & a small selection of wines is available although not encouraged.
There were just a few red wines on the menu, none of which appealed to us, so I asked for the full wine list, where I was again told to scan the barcode to see the full list.
When I reminded the waitress that I did not have a phone on me I asked to see the paper version but was told that the wine list was so extensive that they did not have a paper version & then she walked away from the table. No wine for this table then !
My Partner ordered the lamb main dish which could not be faulted & I ordered a rare steak. The steak arrived at the table medium rare/medium. I explained to the waitress that the steak was not how I ordered it & she said that she would "let the kitchen know". I am a meat eater & can eat meat however it is cooked, so I ate it, but any self respecting restaurant would have taken the plate of food away, apologised & replaced the plate of food with the correct dish.
I wanted this to be a special evening & with the restaurant being endorsed by Marcus Wearing I was expecting more, much more.
Despite a reduced menu due to the current situation, the food was great, the staff friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere relaxed. A lovely lunch.
A lovely meal. Informed and professional staff. Sadly a few nights before COVID19 shut down so generally weird for all. Good luck and see you at the other side xx
Everything was amazing about the meal and the service. The food was absolutely delicious, better than expected and the service was brilliant, they gave us a little surprise for our anniversary meal, it was such a nice gesture and they didn’t have to do it but they went above and beyond, we were very impressed. Will definitely come back again.
We came here for my partners 40th birthday with his family travelling down as a surprise. They accommodated my toddler son with high chair and a colouring pad as well as serving his food straight away. The fixed menu was great especially with the free cocktail. I would definitely recommend, who doesn’t love a Marcus restaurant. Food and service were perfect.
A last minute choice but an excellent one. The food was superb
Three course menu with cocktail for £30.
Service and food exemplary.
Back on Saturday
Very good food
3 course lunch with cocktail for £30. Excellent value. Beautiful surroundings. Service was very attentive. Will definitely return.
The restaurant and the building in which it is housed are beautiful. We had the fixed menu which was incredible value and lovely food. It lacked a bit of atmosphere as it was quite empty but not sure if lots of restaurants are suffering due to current circumstances. Wine a bit expensive but combined with the food deal it was well worth it. Very impressed
My guests thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our food was good, and it’s a lovely place. Excellent service
Saturday lunch occasion celebration. The set menu is great value and includes a cocktail - great value for money. Atmosphere is very special.
It’s alway a great experience when being served by a knowledgable waiter. That coupled with excellent food and great ambience leads to an over all great experience here at The Gilbert Scott.
Dinner with a work colleague. We picked the good value fixed price menu with 3 courses plus a cocktail for £30. Lovely service. Sea Bream for mains and egg custard for dessert both highlights. Will definitely come again.
