My family took me to the goldsmith for father's day & it was a real treat
Had really enjoyable meal
Staff were professional & very warm and welcoming
Will definitely be back soon
Overall as expected. A lovely little pub and dining room, nice decor, atmosphere and staff. Nothing special, but perfect for a sunday lunch or family meal with a decent offer of vege options too. Only one issue - the meal I received was different to what was described on the menu (missing some items), however, the staff were lovely and very quickly rectified this. They also kindly accommodated food swaps on menu. Possibly a little overpriced as the food was average pub grub. I hear the thai menu items are better since the head chef is thai so may go back to try that too!
The roast dinners were as good as you can get in a pub. The lamb and beef were not overcooked and the pork had decent crackling.
The choice and quality of real ale was good, but the pints were slightly short and would not have come up to CAMRA standards.
Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Overall, a very pleasant experience.
Years ago I worked in the area and would never go to this pub. Good to see the transformation.
Average food, came out on the cold side and the seating arrangements were all over the place.
Based on other reviews we decided to grab pre-theatre Sunday lunch here and found the pub to be atmospheric and have friendly staff. The food was good and the recommended wine was a good choice and reasonably priced. Will definitely remember to come back.
I had the pleasure of dining at The Goldsmith with my brother, partner and best friends for my birthday on Tuesday and I couldn't recommend the pub enough.
The food was outstanding, definitely worth another perusal through the menu for me and they really treated us well.
It's a cosy pub and we really liked that, the staff took great care of us and made a special fuss of my birthday. It was a lovely night!
We had a pre-Christmas Sunday lunch at the Goldsmith. The place was - as expected - extremely busy and the food took very long to arrive. When it did arrive, opinions were mixed: i really enjoyed my fish and chips while my husband and friends were far less impressed of their beef roast. Also a bit expensive.
Six family members from around London had a great evening at The Goldsmith last Monday. Conveniently near London Bridge and Southwark but off the beaten track enough not to be jam packed. Comfortable, easy ambience, good choice of ales, wines and menu options, delicious and generous food, convivial atmosphere and great service. Really impressed and will certainly re-visit.
NIce ambiance for a neighborhood pub. Had the split roast - half pork belly/ half nut - wasn't impressed. All the veggies tasted the same and the sauce wasn't very flavorful. No chicken roast option as well which is odd. Would return for drinks but not a proper meal
Booked for a group of 12 for a Sunday roast as some friends were in town from Aus. Most people ordered the various roasts (lamb, beef etc) and very quickly remarked that it was one of the best roasts they'd had in London. One friend even said her and her partner had been having Sunday roasts in various pubs for the past six weeks straight and this was by far the best. One friend had the goats cheese salad which looked amazing, I had the mushroom and halloumi burger which was sadly the only disappointing thing we ordered but I'm glad my friends were all happy with their food, they all complimented me on my choice of gastro pub for the group! Thanks Goldsmith.
We really enjoyed our meal at the Goldsmith. The spring roll starter was so tasty, and HUGE! Good for sharing... My burger was very nice, cooked rare as requested, and the chips were delicious, My partner had the gammon and egg which he enjoyed. Prices are very reasonable, and the service was extremely friendly. I would definitely go back.
Venue picked for a relaxed Sunday evening dinner. Great menu with a good mix of traditional roast offerings and a delicious seafood thai curry. Food on the whole delivered and service was very attentive. A great local find that is off the Bermondsey Street trail!
Had a lovely birthday lunch here to start off our day even though we arrived late our table was still available. My partner had the ham egg and chips
it was excellent ,delicious ham. I had the chicken/ chorizo skewers and two salads equally as good . The lady who served us was efficient and friendly
Pleasant food and friendly service. It was a shame we had to ask for the loud music to be turned down (the bar was practically empty but we couldn't hear each other speak) and then the music was later replaced by football shown on a big screen adjacent to our table halfway through our dinner - not really conducive to a quiet meal with friends and a bit irritating when we could have been seated elsewhere had we known. However, the staff were charming throughout.
I'd eaten at the Goldsmith before and on the strength of that rebooked. The ambience is lovely and relaxed, and earthy, simple styling and wooden tables and eclectic mix of chairs very homely.
The food was good all round - bread and olives, burgers for the kids, satay chicken and a selection of fresh vegetables and salad. No complaints. As it was Fathers' Day they were offering a free pint to dads, which went down well!
The sticky toffee pudding and custard and scoops of ice cream, all quality.
Would definitely recommend to friends and go back again.
Excellent pub that does Thai and English food equally well
A pleasant evening with a couple of friends. The food was ok but not fantastic. The best food by far was the starter of prawn crackers. The fish and chips was not as spectacular as it looked - the fish was too wet. One of our party ordered the sharing platter as a main and was very pleased but the two Thai dishes ordered by the rest of the party were wildly varied - the chicken stir fry was tasty where the vegetable curry was unpleasantly hot. We are unlikely to return.
We booked for a friends birthday, who was visiting London and staying in Southwark . The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a very good meal , good atmosphere and the pub had a 'local' feel to it. When in that area would visit again.
The Goldsmith is a lovely little pub with excellent food, and friendly and efficient staff. The only problem was that the place was very empty. Perhaps it's because it was a Sunday and it's a bit out of the way. But all in all a nice little place.
The food was excellent, really tasty. It is a pub with a real atmosphere and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening,
Went with a group of friends pre theatre. We were made very welcome. All struggled to sketch dinner because there was so much we wanted to try. When the food came we were not disappointed. Delicious! I would definitely go back there.
We ate a 2 course meal here on New Year's Eve before watching the fireworks. Very friendly service, good pub grub menu and chilled out atmosphere. Would go again for a chilled night out
We went to the Goldsmith after the Menier Sunday matinee, and the staff were warm welcoming and helpful. The good was tasty and varied! A very pleasant experience!
Every pub or restaurant was packed around borough market, so I looked on top table for somewhere to eat with some friends without 1-2 hours of waiting time. The goldsmith is out of the usual circuit. Very kind staff. The options in the menu are not so many, but a fair variety of British and curry recipes. My pork belly was ok. No bad, no super good. The waitress helped me a lot with my intolerances and has been very kind. Prices are fair. It is not a sophisticated gastro-pub, as the food is not specially good, but not disappointing at all. Fair.
...nice place too. What more do you want? Very handy for the Menier Chocolate Factory Theatre too.
We use this place regularly but particularly enjoy Sunday lunch. Good selection of options and very decently priced good wines to help the food along. Like most of the pubs in SE1, great and friendly staff.
This little black pub looks like any other South London boozer from the outside, especially on a quiet Sunday evening when I had chosen this pub from this website as a place to go for dinner with family after seeing a show at the nearby Menier Chocolate Factory.
Inside was a friendly welcome, a relaxed atmosphere and a very tempting menu. Crispy duck and noodle salad, pork belly roast and mushroom and halloumi burger were enjoyed by my party. Followed by proper ice cream, pear and apple crumble all washed down with quality wine. Would definitely recommend.
Good local pub with a high standard of food
Lovely local pub and dining, dog friendly (great for me), food freshly cooked with interesting mix of traditional and Asian Choices. Welcoming staff and chef is an Asian lady who uses her handed down recipes who came to our table and checked we loved her food which we did! Home made turkey & leek pie and sesame chicken toast both sublime.
The Goldsmiths has been decked out in an eclectic, shabby chic style and looks great. The staff were friendly and chatty and everything was served within a reasonable time. The food was decent rather than spectacular, which was a bit of a letdown as the menu sounded great. Price wise it was pretty much what you'd expect for the area.
If I lived locally I'd probably come back for a pint every now and again, but am unlikely to travel to come here again.
