What Insiders Are Saying
Close to Victoria station, the Goring Dining Room is an upmarket British restaurant that’s a good bet for afternoon tea or a very posh lunch.
Disappointing experience. It is supposed to be a Michelen starred restaurant, and they served our starter with human hair in it. Service is poor, and dishes take for ever to be served. We started our Sunday lunch at 13:30, and finally finished (without tea/coffee because it was already taking too long) at 17:30. They were already out of sunday roast when we ordered. They were out of our preferred desert (when we finally got to ordering it around 16:00). The waiters were by then busy setting up the empty tables for dinner rather than serving the few remaining parties still waiting for their orders to come out. I told the manager to consider the fact that there was human hair in our starter before billing me; he charged for a 2 course meal instead of 3 course meal for 1 person who had the hair, and took 2 bottles of still water off our bill. I would have expected that he would take off the entire meal for 1 person as a way of showing apology! Not what you would expect from a Michelen starred restaurant. Very disappointing.
Food excellent. Service very professional, but got slow in the late stages.
The Goring is very English, genteel, refined and above all has wonderful food.
We all had the same things (Eggs Drumkilbo and Lobster omelette both of which are house specialities) and dod not regret it. Each dish was spot on.
A good but expensive wine list provided a good accompaniment which worked well.
Very very good.
Our favorite restaurant in London! Fantastic food, service and ambiance. I highly recommend it!
The sommelier was excellent, as was the entire staff. Of particular note was the lamb - it was perfection.
We had dinner pre-theater at the Goring and it was terrific. We were a few minutes early and they sat us at a beautiful table in bar overlooking the garden. They brought us menus while we enjoyed our cocktails so that we could look before we were seated since we only had an hour. Right at 6:00 they came to fetch us and showed us to a lovely table where food and service were flawless. We were stepping out the door at 7:00 on the dot and off to the theater. Well done!
Lovely room with top notch service and a smallish but very good menu. The room is slightly nicer for winter dining but always a pleasure
Practically perfect in every way
a very nice setting very cosy and comfort for any special occasion.
Beautiful hotel close to Victoria station. I had the two specialities of the house - eggs Drumkilbo and lobster omelette, both of which were tasty
Wonderful meal in one of the finest dining spaces in London. Great value.
The Goring is always a treat with wonderful food and first-class service - diners are made to feel very special
Second visit and both have been first class. From the minute the porters open the door for you to the minute you leave, you feel you are being looked after and made welcome. The food was again excellent and not overly expensive for what is served up.
All the staff are friendly, but professional and helpful, the table service is faultless and the dining room itself is a super venue. In error, we were given soda instead of tonic with our pre-meal gin, but it was replaced immediately and without fuss.
We have been dining at th Goring for many years now and it never disappoints. This is dining at its best. The staff are so attentuve and cannot do enough to give you the Goring experience. I thoroughly recommend you try it and you will not dissapointed.
This Michelin starred restaurant does not disappoint! The traditional service is impeccable and the Edwardian ambiance is elegant. Our table for two ordered the eggs drumkilbo appetizer and the beef wellington entree on the fixed price menu. We had never heard of eggs drumkilbo but were told it was a favorite of many diners. It was fabulous and filled with lobster, hard boiled egg, and topped with a bit of caviar. The beef wellington was equally fabulous and paired nicely with the bottle of Georgian red wine we ordered. As Americans visiting London, we wanted a traditionally British meal and The Goring Dining Room delivered!
A very special restaurant that lives up to its reputation. Good for business and social outings. Perfect for those special occasions. Atmosphere is classy and calm without being stuffy. Impeccable service; Great wine list; Food was very good- I made wrong choices but my colleague thought it was one of the best meals he had ever eaten. The cheese board was to die for- and they were very generous with portions. It is expensive ..but worth it.
Mother’s Day treat
For the first time booked a restaurant for birthday, no special arrangements at all. Food was alright, with quite chewy venison as my main. My friend had a virgin mojito and quoted as the worst in her life... My waiter poured still water into my sparking glass but apologised until I pointed it out after three times. The desserts were also disappointing, very bland and boring. Would not consider to go back and please improve and catch up with other first-class restaurants in London.
It was a very nice come back in this glorious room and I enjoyed every minute of my time.
Great food and choice for a change in the lunch of the day. The dover sole was superb !
Had Sunday Lunch. Was excellent in every respect and will certainly go again. I had the roast and my wife the halibut. Both were superb.
Certainly not for those on a budget but even then may be considered for a special occasion
We celebrated my goddaughter's 30th birthday at the Goring.
Service was friendly and welcoming.
The food was delicious , provided complimentary flavours and textures and was attractively plated.
The meal lived up to its reputation and provided value for money.
I look forward to my next celebration there.
The service is always impeccable at The Goring and the food is delicious too!
food was very tasty. the eel risotto was the standout dish, the onion bread a close second. service was incredible.
This place is special because the people are great. The food is good, it isn’t the most memorable but it doesn’t matter because the staff are lovely, the atmosphere is great and you feel really well looked after.
We love coming here in the winter. Just a perfect room for a cold winter night. The cod is our favorite. The preparation changes but the fish is always perfect. Service is always top notch and all the tables are great.
Having made a reservation for 6pm we were not allowed into the dining room at that time. After explaining this was a pre theatre meal and that as a result of my wife's incapacity we would need to leave at 7pm we were encouraged to have at least two courses when at last a waiter attended to us. Food finally arrived at 6.42pm! Even getting the bill proved a challenge, with the waiter from whom it was requested prioritising sweeping the4 table over meeting our request.
I have been coming to the Goring for years, love the room, have used private rooms many times, but I will not be coming back after this experience.
Perfect meal in tasteful surroundings, would highly recommend
Outstanding food, service and atmosphere. Such a special evening in a very special restaurant.
The dining experience was disappointing. It was difficult for me as I had recommended the restaurant having had an excellent meal there on a previous occasion. In particular the main dishes served were lukewarm and had clearly been hanging around. The rib of beef was tough and the Yorkshire pudding dry. This was pointed out to the waiter who commented he would let the chef know but there was no follow up with ourselves from anyone. Not acceptable for this calibre of restaurant.
3rd time I have been to the Goring & always find it wonderful the service is impeccable as is the food !!
Excellent lunch. Delicious food. Great service
This is the third time we have visited The Goring for lunch and each time is just as good as the last.
Lovely place go lunch and very attentive staff. A large table of Chinese in the centre of the room who were taking photos, selfies etc slightly undermined the ambrience. A mobile phone policy might be in order!
Great food. Great service. Pleasant, civilized atmosphere. An extensive and appropriately priced wine list. Expensive, yes, but about as good a restaurant as you can find anywhere.
Lovely room. The menu might be a little limited for some but everything is really good and the service is fabulous
Another delightful evening dining at the Goring. Good food, excellent service and a pleasant atmosphere. Thank you
I've had been eating at Tho Goring Dining room literally for decades--in the last few years the quality of the food--which was always fine--has become even more interesting.
The combination of new dishes ( i.e. smoked eel risotto) using splendid produce with the lovely room and impeccable service adds up to a memorable experience. For some of us it has to be a once-in-a-while treat (such quality of course is expensive) but a treat--even a super treat--it is to dine at The Goring.
Overall, an outstanding dining experience we enjoy whenever we are in London. The seasonal menu presents classics of English cuisine with flair and elegance. It's a bit skewed toward seafood, which may be an issue for some. The cheese cart is a continuing marvel - with a glass of vintage port! The wine list is vast and pricey at the upper end, but with plenty of fine choices in the middle range too. Service is skillful and attentive. The decor is a masterpiece of understated, airy sophistication. The Goring also offers an excellent (if expensive) breakfast, and one of the best afternoon teas in London. Reservations are necessary for dinner and preferable for tea.
This is the second time I have eaten lunch at the Goring and I was not disappointed. Sometimes return visits do not live up to the first experience, but not here. From the moment I telephoned to ask if we could change our lunch time to 30 mins earlier to leaving, the service was exemplary. You are made to feel a really valued guest and nothing, but nothing is too much trouble. The food is divine and yes it is extravagant for lunch but worth every penny. The ambience is elegant and sophisticated like being on the Orient Express. Table service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing and this has to be my favourite spot in London. I just love it!
Second time this summer: every bit as good as the first time
