The Goring Dining Room Ratings and Reviews
I've had been eating at Tho Goring Dining room literally for decades--in the last few years the quality of the food--which was always fine--has become even more interesting.
The combination of new dishes ( i.e. smoked eel risotto) using splendid produce with the lovely room and impeccable service adds up to a memorable experience. For some of us it has to be a once-in-a-while treat (such quality of course is expensive) but a treat--even a super treat--it is to dine at The Goring.
Overall, an outstanding dining experience we enjoy whenever we are in London. The seasonal menu presents classics of English cuisine with flair and elegance. It's a bit skewed toward seafood, which may be an issue for some. The cheese cart is a continuing marvel - with a glass of vintage port! The wine list is vast and pricey at the upper end, but with plenty of fine choices in the middle range too. Service is skillful and attentive. The decor is a masterpiece of understated, airy sophistication. The Goring also offers an excellent (if expensive) breakfast, and one of the best afternoon teas in London. Reservations are necessary for dinner and preferable for tea.
This is the second time I have eaten lunch at the Goring and I was not disappointed. Sometimes return visits do not live up to the first experience, but not here. From the moment I telephoned to ask if we could change our lunch time to 30 mins earlier to leaving, the service was exemplary. You are made to feel a really valued guest and nothing, but nothing is too much trouble. The food is divine and yes it is extravagant for lunch but worth every penny. The ambience is elegant and sophisticated like being on the Orient Express. Table service was excellent, attentive but not overbearing and this has to be my favourite spot in London. I just love it!
We arrived a bit early for our Tuesday night reservation and decided to have drinks in the bar. It is a comfortably sized space with a number of seating areas to accommodate both couples and larger parties. We mentioned that we had a reservation in the dining room, and, as one would expect , the server told us the cost would be put on our dinner bill. What I did not expect was a visit from the table captain, with the menu, and from the sommelier with the extensive Wine list. The food was delicious, served in a gracious , but comfortable manner by staff who made us feel welcome without being intrusive. From the well thought out prix fixe menu we had a risotto with smoked eel appetizer . I had a dish of lamb chop and wonderfully prepared lamb sweetbreads, while my wife had roast cod served with a lobster dumpling and a lobster bisque sauce. Desserts were imaginative and well presented .The portions were quite satisfying. At 60£ per person, I think it was also an excellent value. My only complaint is that the Goring dining room is in London and not New York.
My wife and I booked a table to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary. We had not previously dined at the Goring but the experience was beyond our expectations. It was a thoroughly enjoyable, memorable experience. The food was outstanding and the service was exemplary. We were looked after from arrival to departure. The staff are a credit to the Hotel and they all made us feel so comfortable. We would not hesitate in recommending The Goring to all our friends and family and would hope to visit again when next in London.
As a regular visitor to the Goring, I am treated as such and very much appreciate the attention. The food is always cooked to perfection and one knows that it will always be cooked to the highest order and presented elegantly. For a long time I always chose the same items but have since moved on and change choices every visit. The cheese board is an absolute delight. Service is so professional and unobtrusive.
Lovely meal with beautifully presented food and attentive staff. The chocolate cake with candle was a nice touch. If you have time, it's worth trying a couple of cocktails in the main bar where Kate Middleton (probably) had one last drink before her wedding...
From entry to exit we always feel well looked after by superb bar, restaurant, door and reception staff. All are unfailingly pleasant, friendly but not familiar and with a professional approach.
The food is beautifully served and one never feels rushed.
This was a special treat for my close friends birthday as she had heard of but not experienced The Goring. She was highly delighted with the whole experience.
Blimey! Great chef! Internationally acclaimed food in a sublimely traditional environment. It warms the heart! The service is impeccable without being intrusive. You feel very very special. I had the Hereford steak tartare, followed by steak and kidney pud and cheese. WOW!
The sommelier agreed that a delightfully fulsome Malbec (and not too expensive) would make a great accompaniment! It was.
My guest was awestruck and will be visiting again. So will I!!!!
I took my 20 and 17 years old nephews to celebrate passing their end of year exams. I was going to take them to a steak house, but wanted the dinner to be more celebratory. This was perfect. All the lovely theatre of a formal dining room with the perfect amount of friendliness from the restaurant staff. The food was wonderful too. ThIs is a perfect place to celebrate a family occasion or for a romantic date. I can't fault the place, but it is not cheap and nor should it be.
Our second visit to The Goring Dining Room in three months, same exacting standards. Had a little issue with a side of chips that had to be sent back twice (asked for no salt, came loaded with the stuff - twice) but the front of house quickly sorted it out to our satisfaction. You can trust them with special occasions
