The Great House
The mediterranean-style stone terrace is the ideal place to enjoy summer evenings.
Our menu is made up of traditional English cuisine, regional French brasserie-style cuisine created by our chef as well as local seasonal game.
You can also choose from a fine selection of ales and wine.
Nice atmosphere, cosy pub. Pizza seemed to take long time & disappointed had missed off the pine nuts, but happily gave us some in a dish to sprinkle on, but it was quite bland, being goats cheese & beetroot, but really missed the tomato base. Lovely deserts but as most places, a little over priced. Pretty little garden to sit in weather permitting. Not really a place I would take children.
My favourite place for Sunday lunch . Helpful , friendly yet professional staff. The food is consistently good. I am always recommending people to visit
The Great House has such a lovely ambiance, the staff are all so friendly and Gina our waitress was exceptional! The food was delicious, two of us had a pizza for a main course absolutely great!! Well done
Very Enjoyable, Nice Venue and Good Food. Would recommend to friends and family.
We have been to the Great House a few times for Lunch This time was as usual very good, and was pleased to find that the Fish and Chips was on offer. Cheese board allows you to select chees by pottion, I selected 3, very nice but so generous took some home
Soggy pizza, ribeye steak small and chewy and the chip were definitely not hand cut more like out of a pack overall very disappointing
Very pleasant evening
Great atmosphere and fab menu. The menu was excellent. Definitely book though as it is very busy.
Wonderful food, fantastic staff & hoping to go back again very soon.
Lovely food very trustworthy staff reported we had accidentally given a £10 note too many very impressed will definitely be back
Really enjoyed our family meal together.
Nice to be able to go somewhere and have choices for one of our party who is a celiac and vegetarian.
Only disappointment was that two of us had a large glass of Zinfandel rose and wanted a second glass. Waiter brought second glass which was obviously not the same wine as the original, colour was different and not as a sweet ( I’m sure a superior wine but not to our taste)
Asked the waiter if it was the same and he said yes, clearly not interested, so asked another waiter who found out that restaurant had run out of original and this was replacement. None of which really mattered except we would have chosen a different second drink had we known and felt that it would have been churlish not to have accepted replacement.
Food and service generally very good.
Excellent food as usual. We are regulars at The Great House and it is consistently good.
Had heard great reviews so was expecting a lot. The inside is still very much like a warm, comfortable pub with a roaring fire rather than just a restaurant or too modern.
The food was ok, we both felt that the fries had been cooked in old oil leaving a funny taste.
The service was good especially the young lady behind the bar. We had a nice flatbread for an appetizer and will definitely be coming for pizza from their pizza oven. The main courses were just average, desserts were nice if not predictable (chocolate molten cake and ice cream and sticky toffee pudding)
We will be back and give it another go, I would be interested to try afternoon tea or sunday lunch too.
a warm welcome on arrival ,Norbert couldn't have been kinder. A great menu and the food was beautifully prepared.
Excellent food and the mix up at ordering was swiftly sorted out. A lovely evening out!
Having enjoyed eating at various of the sister establishments, we were looking forward to a Sunday roast at The Great House. We ordered the lamb, pork and the beef. The lamb was inedible, full of sinews and very fatty. So tough even a requested steak knife couldn't cut it. It was replaced with the pork after a 15 minute wait. The pork and the beef were average at best and such a surprise since the Elite Pubs brand are renowned for using local Kent produce. 50% was taken off the food bill but not the point, we wanted to enjoy some great ingredients and they were sadly lacking. The chef should have known better (or cared more) than to serve such tough meat. Disappointing.
Always good at The Great House - Mirella looked after us very well indeed.
Good food and great service. Been here a few times and pretty consistent
A very enjoyable evening that had been for a birthday celebration. The staff are knowledgeable and efficient, the house menu being varied and should suite most tastes.
The table seating is well spread out for a party of people, while equally suitable for couples, we shall most certainly visit again.
Staff were great, always a great selection of food, we had the sharing seafood platter to start and ended up skipping straight to pudding as it was so filling.
Fantastic service. Waiter was great with my 6 year old. The smugglers piggy pizza was to die for.
The second I walked in all I could smell bleach/ dettol. I have the nose of a blood hound and could smell the embers from a bbq 20 miles away so i wasn’t surprised when my other table guests couldn’t! it’s a good thing they’re clean but with the decor of tiles upon entering and the scent of bleach you immediate think... public toilet!
The menu, like in all of their chains is a little fussy! It reminds me of TGI Fridays trying to appease everyone by offering everything and I actually struggle more trying to find something I want.
We visited for a birthday and found the service a bit slow. It was a little busy but it took 3 hours + for just a starter, main and a birthday cake to come out for 6 people! A few of us ordered a steak ciabatta, the bread was a little tough even for a ciabatta but otherwise nice. The bathrooms were below par, broken seats, unclean... disappointing given the ambience and decor of the restaurant.
I’ve now visited all of the chains restaurants and like all the others which i have only frequented once I don’t think I would return. Not because it was terrible just average.
We decided to book for a late lunch/early dinner on Sunday. The food was delicious but the service could be improved. During our visit none of the staff smiled or engaged with us.
Great location and food for our works Christmas night out. Entertainment too which was an unexpected bonus.
Great food and service. I visited another of their establishments, The Vineyard, a few days before. A similar menu but the service level of The Great House really shone through. Good singer in bar but it was loud for some people to hear even furthest table away
Thank you! We had a great meal and a lovely time in a beautiful pub. We will return.
Good food, a shame we were not warned about road closure & diversion to get there!
Managed to book a table for 8 on a Sunday with relatively short notice. Lucky we managed to get in. 4 adults and 4 children (two very young) and what a treat.
Friendly staff, fantastic decor, great atmosphere.
The kids were tended to and their food was so good they all cleared their plates. Adults starters and Sundays roasts were simply delicious.
Would highly recommend. Pricier than some establishments, but you get what you pay for.
Will definitely be visiting again.
Outstanding food thank you. Would highly recommend
Service was terrible, we ordered drinks and recieved our food before the drinks and ended up going to the bar ourselves to get drinks, staff wernt very friendly or welcoming and it was hard to tell who was staff and who wasn’t because of their appearance and lack of care for table service. Food was ok but not worth visiting again for
Unfortunately, though we had booked, we were put in the bar NOT the restaurant. A busy bar didn't help. Turkey meal was disappointing especially the over cooked potato and vegetables.
The whole experience was disappointing as on first arrival it gave the impression it would be good.
Service was polite but very slow with a long wait for each course - 2.75 hours for a 2 course meal!
The food was distinctly average and included overcooked turkey, very undercooked roast potatoes and dry pie crusts, well clear of the meat underneath.
Luckily the desserts were really good.
Drinks were pretty pricey, and the beer in my 'bitter' shandy tasted more like a light hophead ale.
We drove over 40 miles to meet relations here for a meal, and by the end of the evening we wished we had not bothered.
Disappointed. Having eaten there before, we found on Sunday evening having booked a few weeks in advance, we were told our table would not be ready for around 15 minutes - 10 minutes after our booked time. We happily ordered drinks by the bar and waited.. we were told there was a delay. Then asked if we would like to eat in The Barn - an area beyond the main building, as due to extra guests being booked last minute onto a large group booking, there was actually no table for us at all. We declined to move and ate our meal on our laps near the bar. Our reservation had been made well in advance for a family outing with friends. Very disappointed as restaurant was greedy for numbers and should honour all bookings.
Great food, service and atmosphere! The Great House was recommended to us and its lived up to its reputation!
I’ve been to The Great House on several occasions but was blown away on this visit by the superb menu and the excellent cooking. Service is always good but the food for the three is us was wonderful.
First time at the a Great House (though a regular to the Elite Pubs chain) and much like its sister pubs, very similar theme and ambiance throughout, though with its own unique characteristics of the lovely old pub that it’s taken over.
Good, inviting bar and cosy lounge area, friendly staff and lovely lighting throughout. Food menu classic Elite Pubs, decent if not staggering, and always nice to have a pizza oven nearby!
Only thing that let it down was that no one came over for the bill, so we went up to the bar to pay, but that may have been because we were still chatting and staff didn’t want to disturb us!
Overall a nice experience and would easily recommend if you’re in the area!
We met for lunch at the Great House and had a lovely meal, everything was well cooked with fresh and seasonal ingredients.
Parking was a nightmare due to road works but this wasn't the fault of the pub.
Definitely would recommend!
Food was really lovely! Service was good great selection of drinks! Will defiantly be back!
Really lovely Sunday lunch. We booked it really late in the day and wasn’t excepting to get a table. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
