I asked the server what were the best choices on the menu, followed his lead . . . awesome. Just awesome!
We had a wonderful time, dining in a nice restaurant after sheltering for so long and waiting for vaccines to take effect. The space was beautiful, quiet, and clean. The food was outstanding and the service exemplary. I can't recommend The Grill enough and if we could afford to eat there often, we definitely would!
Steak, salmon and cheeseburger were all delicious! Steak done to perfection!
It is one of our favorite restaurants. The lobster bisque is the very best!
Service was poor, food just ok, and weird being there with only 1 other table in that giant room. We have always loved your restaurant but yesterday it felt creepy being there. Like a ghost town feel. Sad to say as I mentioned we have spent many occasions and parties there.
Best old-school restaurant with private booths, great food, and excellent service. Has been a frequent return-to-restaurant over the years.
Excellent service, fantastic steaks!
It was my first visit and my wife's second visit. The location, atmosphere, service, food/drink, were excellent. We highly recommend it.
I was pleasantly pleased with the service, the wine, cocktails, and the food. I went away very zen like.
It was near empty so it felt a little odd. But the server Eric was excellent. And so is my French onion soup.
Still great, even post shutdown. Yummy cocktails!
Waiter Dylan was terrific! Huge burger and great fries, and Brussels sprouts. Only complaint is everything was a bit over salted.
The service was great and dining indoors was wonderful. My rib eye steak really sub par. About 1/2 thick and overdone. No flavor.
Ambience was great, staff were very attentive but not intrusive, food was delicious. We were celebrating several events, and they made it a special night for us. I look forward to the next time I get to go back.
Perfect place for dining. Service is excellent from greeting to food serving. Love it.
My date’s salad was not to her liking, but she did not want to send it back. After discussing the issue, she will be more vocal in the future. The dressing was spicy and she expected it to be sweeter/ tangy blend
It is special place to take a date.
The food was excellent and the service was well timed
Went there early on a Thursday evening to dine inside not too long after indoor dining was allowed. Restaurant was mostly empty, but well configured for distance between tables. The food and service were excellent.
Jesus was great, very polite and great service! I miss Daily Grill in SF, but I’m glad I could come to visit the San Jose Grill on the Alley location. Loved the seating and ambiance. Everything was great. Thank you!
was my 60th birthday, we arrived early for 5pm reservation. they were not busy, there were maybe 2 other tables there. service was extremely slow, our table was not given any bread at all. main dishes were amazing but side dishes were cold & servings were small. our bill was close to $1000 so i thing it was unacceptable but because of covid i tipped generously.
Service was invincible. My New York Strip was not impressive but everyone else was impressed with the ribeye. I thought the prices were very high considering the portions of the sides and such. Service was impeccable and I think I might return again.
Great service and delicious steaks!
Very quiet for one of the first nights after indoor dining was allowed to resume. Food was very good. Very pricey!
Decent. Not impressed
Always great food and service! My favorite place to go downtown SJ!
The grill on the alley was very nice. The waiter was very attentive. For being outside in the evening, it was actually very warm and cozy.
Our waiter, Jesus, was excellent! I've always loved The Grill and I'll be back!
Our waiter was super gracious really made our experience pleasant. Meat was overcooked, we did not return we actually ordered new steak and it was rushed so not very good.
We will give it another try once indoor dining resumes and see if our food experience is a little different. But overall very nice restaurant with nice employees. We understand everyone has an off night so we would definitely try again.
We had the ribeye and porterhouse. Both steaks were done to perfection! Their Wedge salad with bleu cheese dressing is the best! As was the sauteed spinach and grilled broccoli. Service was excellent! (The only reason I gave Ambience a low rating is because of the COVID-19 Outdoor Dining requirement, and that the lighting was horrible in the tent. We are looking forward to the "Newsome Lockdown" being OVER as The Grill on the Alley has one of the nicest dining rooms in the South Bay Area) We'll be back! :)
Indoor dining ambiance - excellent! Covid outdoor dining ambiance - average.
Food & service is first rate.
It was during COVID and cold, that didn’t stop the great service! Heat lamps were great, and food was excellent!
The food was okay, a little bit pricey though its Valentine's Day. The food was lackluster in its presentation. Service was outstanding.
Service and food was awesome.
Giving that we are just off a shut down...
It was very calm and the service and food was excellent!
Service was fine; no complaints. Getting the food from the kitchen to the outdoor patio must have been a challenge; main course items were fine , but all side dishes were Luke warm.
Our Thanksgiving Dinner at the Grill was excellent. Server Dylan was great. COVID protocols strictly followed. The food was great. This is an excellent place to dine in spite of the virus
had no taste, no oil or spices on the ahi, was covered with some avocado cream with too much cream cheese
had the structure of mashed potatoes, again no spices, for price it should have been hand cut, felt like it was some left over meat ground 5 times
Porterhouse steak was excellent, sauces lousy
Asparagus side: o boy please cut of the end to remove the end that are not eatable, otherwise well prepared and spiced
Sautéd spinach, well prepared, almost no spice though.
Bread pudding with whipped cream, not fresh prepared, no fluffiness, watery fruit sauce
Drinks were ok
Overall way overpriced for food that one can cook better at home, the steak somehow saved our anniversary evening.
15 year anniversary
The service was great but the food was not on the mark. Mainly most items were not hot and everything was rewarmed. Sorry to see this decline.
The food was absolutely delicious! Better than we imagined. I asked one of the servers to thank the Latino cooks who are doing an amazing job of serving up delicious meals!
Paul is the best! He makes our visit feel special every time. The wait staff is great too. Food is always an A plus!
