Very happy with our visit... our food was sublime always a lovely atmosphere in this lovely pub/ restaurant couldn’t fault anything.
Fantastic service and food as ever. Lovely atmosphere.
Overall a good experience, one small complaint, it was not made clear to me when I called to confirm if the venue was dog friendly, that dogs are not allowed in the main restaurant.
Apart from that miscommunication, a very pleasant experience.
Never disappoints! Always great service, friendly accommodating staff and a vast and interesting menu. Lovely place - we hope to go again very soon.
Nice meal in a lovely public house. However,£15 for a burger and a few chips is too much in my view.
Amazing venue, starters and pizzas were very good but everything else was disappointing and over cooked wasn’t good value for money
Family get together , we got there 15 minutes early and our table was ready
Really friendly staff and lovely food!
Lovely food again as always. Will definitely return soon
Really enjoyed our night, atmosphere was great, service pretty good, though at times a little slow, but when we were interacting they were polite, smiled and courteous. So all in a minor point.
Really interested in going again. The food was fabulous and I had food-envy of my friends meals!
We have not been to the Gun at Gun Hill since a refurbishment but the Freshly Cooked Pizza was excellent, the best Pizza I have had for a while, we sat near the open fire which was cosy and the Gun has a nice authentic feel. I should imagine it is nice in the summer when you can sit outside in the garden.
Keep returning to The Gun always good food good service and nice atmosphere
Another very enjoyable meal at The Gun. Staff very friendly and food excellent.
Great food great atmosphere, we eat here regularly and the food has always been good. Worth a visit, staff very friendly and service is good. Also a lovely place to go in the summer, plenty of seating outside with stunning views of the countryside.
A very nice country pub. A lovely and historic building. Excellent food served by efficient and friendly staff. Have no reservations about recommending The Gun for any family or social meal.
Eaten at The Gun a few times. Always had a good meal, lovely at Christmas aswell. Nice variety on the menu. Definately recommend the Roast dinners on sunday. All in all a nice pub, with a very nice garden to sit in, in the summer. Staff are friendly and accommodating.
Lovely food, pleasant servers and a great atmosphere
Food very good but menu rarely changes apart from the odd special. We usually bring the dog and would prefer not to be confined to the “dogs’ room.”
Overall the evening was v good, the only thing i felt not happy with was a very small baby crying,i want to be able to talk and here my partner talking without hearing a very small child making a noise, why parents take v small children to restaurants at that time of night amazes me??
I know it is impossible to stop this but a baby crying on an anniversary celebration i did not need,i did notice also another couple were also perplexed. people want peace and quiet when out,we have been through this in our life many years ago having had our own children.
i would still recommend The Gun as this is an awkward situation, Rant is now over!!!
Saturday lunch in January, nice table, log fire burning. Food: One main, from specials, was really nice, the other unfortunately not so great, fish overcooked, jerusalem artichoke a bit bland, not the standard I've come to expect from this group. Deserts were delicious though. I really like this Pub Group, they serve local wines and I love the fact that you can purchase really good locally produced fizz by the glass. We've enjoyed many a good meal at the sister pub The Great House, and also held a graduation lunch at The Gun, which is a favourite place for lunch. Hopefully, this was a one off with the main dish.
Consistently excellent food and service. Lovely setting in a quiet location - in the summer it is lovely to sit out in the garden and in winter lovely tables by the fire in a well laid out restaurant or bar area. There are 8 walks you can do that start and finish at the pub - a good way to work up an appetite. I find the staff are always attentive, polite and professional - it is always a pleasure to come back and bring friends and family. Keep up the excellent team work
Very nice Pub , good menu would highly recommend the food , very friendly and nice ambiance
Brilliant for Sunday lunch and well worth the drive.
The food,as always was fresh and very tasty. The service can be a bit slow at times but did not spoil the overall experience. Will definitely return.
Consistently good food, great service every time we have visited.
I love the gun and the food is always exceptional. Service on my last visit was slow but I will still go back.
Been here on many occasions and always receive good food and service.
Not offered specials menu, thought choices were poor, only when saw food plates coming out of the kitchen we wondered how this food was available. When the desert menu was offered we were given a Specials menu whereby we noticed the other main options. We chose the fish and chips which was only average. The chips were very thick cut and dry. Wish we had seen the additional offers.
Out meal at the gun was really nice and the service was wonderful. Only one disappointment was when we ordered the Camembert it came with two tiny bits of bread which were eaten quickly and ended up having lots of cheese left but no bread so unfortunately had to order money and wait for it, for then the Camembert to turn cold and stodgy. My pizza was very plain, not a lot of taste to it and very oily.
Apart from that it was a very lovely environment, staff made us feel welcome and service was quick.
Crammed us into a corner between to other tables when there was plenty of other space in the restaurant. Was in no rush to take our food order 15-20 minutes later after being seated, but then half way through our starter that we had not even finished our mains arrived which was below average after that just wanted leave didn’t bother with a dessert.
We spent our New Year’s Eve eating early evening meal with the family. Good choice was excellent. Good great
Staff attentive, kids enjoyed kids menu
Good variety of choices, although it seems the menu rarely changes, but nevertheless always presented and cooked well. Looking forward to the opening of the burger bar and children’s play area for when we bring the grandchildren.
Well worth going to The Gun. Very warm welcome from the professional and friendly staff. The restaurant is cosy and very well laid out, suiting couples wanting a romantic meal or groups alike. If I was in the area again, I would definitely go back.
Great food and they catered for our large table very well with prompt service that was helpful but not intrusive. Great gluten free and vegetarian options available to and clear on the menu.
Went for my birthday and overall very very good however disappointed with the vegetarian option very limited. Atmosphere lovely and cosy, would definitely go back
Very high quality food and excellent service in a friendly environment. Summer outside seating a good choice for views.
Splendid post Christmas family meal for four. Excellent service, lovely food and reasonably priced with options ranging from snacks and sharing plates to an extensive a la carte menu with dishes to suit all pockets including pizzas cooked to order in their pizza oven (pizzas available as GF too).
The Gun has a good range of beers, wines, cocktails and spirits and maintains a happy balance between being a pub and a restaurant.
Excellent food and staff were both helpful and friendly. Thank you.
A last minute booking but a great table in the large, light dining room. Very friendly and efficient service from all the front of house staff we encountered, even though it was towards the end of a busy Sunday lunchtime and they must of been getting tired. Food was piping hot and delicious with the perfect size portions, although my desert did beat me. The pub is a 10min drive from home so I will definitely be making several return visits. Couldn't fault the experience.
We had a lovely meal on Friday with our friends always pleased with the choice for me as I am coeliac I know I am safe eating there.See you all soon.
