Booked the table for the Wednesday afternoon session, as a treat for my friend. The service , the tea and the ambiance were excellent. Unfortunately, the sandwiches were very poor quality and spoiled the afternoon.
It was obvious, that they had been pre-prepared and had been kept in the fridge. The bread was beginning to get hard and they were too cold.
The cakes were nice.
Food was delicious and our server was very attentive, making it a very special afternoon tea. Many thanks.
My wife and I have had afternoon teas at many places in London, but this one rates top. The attentiveness of the staff, the quaility of the food and drink, and the absolutely splendid environment and surroundings make it stand out.
We were there midweek and mid afternoon and had the "with champagne" option.
The sandwiches were really good, especially the mini brioche buns, and once your plate was empty you were offered more - but with the freshly baled (still hot) scones and most impressive selection of "treats" I doubt more would be needed. At all times we were encourages to linger and take our time, which was very easy to do as the leather armchairs were most comfortable.
The service was really bad unfortunately which is a shame with a nice venue like that. It took a really long time for us to get someone to take our food order, they served the wrong drink not just once but a second time as well and when we had to ask the staff for coffee menu after we had finished our lunch, no one cam to ask how the food was or asked if we wanted dessert. When we had finally got attention and asked for coffee menus we were given the afternoon tea menu - wrong menu. So we asked again and just got a whole bunch or different menus shoved at our table, wine lists, lunch menus, afternoon tea menus, story of the hansom lounge folder and the one thing we asked for - coffee menu. By that time we felt so disappointed so we skipped the £5 coffee and left. Another thing was that one tiny, tiny bottle of coke was £4, very overpriced.
Beautiful airy room. Attentive service. Attractive, tasty food.
one of the worst 5 star hotel service iv ever been. will not recommend the place to anyone. the lounge was noisy and not suitable for a cozy and romantic afternoon tea.
Apart from the lack of Lapsang Souchong (surely one of essential tea choices in a £55 tea!), our meal exceeded expectations, especially due to excellent and personable service. We relaxed into a long languid afternoon of delicious morsels and rolling discourse, inspired by the history of our surroundings and the changing nature of Kings Cross. The tea bordered on inspirational from traditional scones to innovative breads and and sweet (as in pretty as well as scrumptious) cakes. Not cheap, but definitely special and memorable.
Having previously been for afternoon tea here, I decided to bring my parents and boyfriend back for a Sunday treat. As usual - the lounge area is beautiful and relaxing. However, the food this time around seemed lacklustre and old - the lemon drizzle cake and a few sandwiches to name a few were very dry. Still edible- but not as good as the first time I visited. Another note I would like to make was that it took forever to actually pay our bill. Our waitress (who had been wonderful throughout) had disappeared so we had to flag down another woman who brought us the check but never came back to charge my card. I had to get up and chase a further two people down to actually pay for our tea, which shouldn't happen. Probably won't be returning as I believe there are much better places to have a memorable afternoon tea.
Afternoon tea was lovely, however, I am intrigued to know why it didn't appear to match what was stated in the menu. It mentioned the sandwiches were brioche. The sandwiches were normal sandwiches and not brioche. A shame because I was looking forward to them. I also think that bringing out the sandwiches on a separate plate for each person before anything else is a bit odd for afternoon tea. Usually everything is brought out on a tiered platter at the same time along with the tea.
Afternoon tea was great in a gorgeous place but there were 2 seriously different issues we had with the place. Firstly trying to find where the afternoon tea and reception was difficult. Wandered around and no one asked us could they help. Not until we finally found someone to assist. The welcome desk was horrendous. Girl on there was really rude, arrogant and totally off putting. When we sat down we were placed behind a long reception desk so hidden away from the rest of the room. It was like being in the naughty corner and seeing the back of the staff all the time. The positive was the serving waitress was fantastic and the food was amazing. Environment looked great from what we could see behind the counter.
Great selection of rolls and sandwiches. Cakes also excellent.Cater for dietary requirements. Environment is quite busy but we were fine with that. Very generous servings. Highly recommend.
Visited for afternoon tea and although the waitress was very sweet service was very slow and pretty much non-existent whenever we needed something. Sandwiches were given on a plate in front of us, rather than on a table or tier so it felt a bit overwhelming to have all of the food in our faces. Some of the bread had been left out for too long so was a bit stale. Tea was replenished when we eventually got somebody's attention but they did not bring fresh cups, just poured fresh tea into the old, cold cups. Not really what I would expect for £35 per head. The room itself is stunning thanks to the amazing Victorian architecture but not enough to make me want to go back.
Very nice, relaxing atmosphere. Not rushed at any point. Helpful & attentive staff. Good choice of sandwiches, traditional but with added extras to set them above the usual offerings. Delicious deserts & unique choice of cocktails.
Really delicious and attractive afternoon tea. Good service and table for 3 with comfy armchairs set ready for us.
There was nothing to fault about our experience. We were offered more sandwiches as well as a doggy bag for any not eaten cakes. All of the cakes were tasty and fresh. The service was helpful and efficient but not imposing.
Is a definate to do again in the future.
My mum and I have a brilliant time celebrating our birthdays. It was perfect
On a day trip to London, our visit to St Pancras Hotel was great. After a
lovely cocktail in the bar we moved to the Hansom Lounge and had a most delicious afternoon tea. The food and service were faultless although being in the foyer meant a rather busy and somewhat noisy environment. However I would definitely recommend a visit. Fab!!
5 stars for everything except the waiter was too softly spoken and we could hardly hear what he was saying.
Afternoon tea at the The Hansom Lounge - St. Pancras Renaissance Hotel was special. Service was excellent, the food was very good and the ambience helped make it a great afternoon. Not cheap but also not ridiculously expensive - the Hansom Lounge has go it right.
My daughter and I spent a wonderful couple of hours here enjoying afternoon tea, although there were people around it was still a very peaceful environment. The food was of a very high standard and my daughter who is a vegetarian had plenty to enjoy. Service is exemplary without being overbearing. It is expensive and we only do it every few months but it is a lovely extravagant treat, thoroughly recommend.
Fabulouss selection, wonderful helpful staff, perfect atmosphere amid stunning surroundings
Lovely classsy atmosphere with great service & food. Great option for afternoon tea away from the busy usual spots.
A very pleasent experience with good service and selection of sandwiches and cakes. Dissapointed by the added service charge. If I had known this was going to be added I would not have booked. I suspect the staff see little or none of it. I much prefer to tip in cash to the member of staff who deserves it rather than have it added automatically to the bill. Sharp practice.
An open lobby with people checking in and out is NOT a restful place for an afternoon tea. If we had known it would be like this, we would not have gone -- not worth it for the price.
I would highly recommend afternoon tea at the St Pancras Hotel. The service was excellent and staff were very friendly. The afternoon tea itself was delicious and I liked the fact they offered you more sandwiches without having to ask. Also, it was my friend's birthday & they very kindly presented her with a little cake & candle. All in all a great experience & I would definitely go back again!
My daughter and I came here to end our Harry Potter walking tour. We had Afternoon Tea and we sat in the lounge which was a novel expirence as it was, I assume, once part of the station. The staff were extremely attentive and the sandwiches, patisseries and scones were of an excellent standard. I thoroughly enjoyable time for both of us
The afternoon tea at the Hansom Lounge is an excellent culinary experience. The service was particularly nice.
An attractive, comfortable and historically interesting venue for afternoon tea. Beautifully presented but some of the food just missed the mark. Beautiful and generous smoked salmon ruined by a sweet brioche bun, a scraping of egg in a sweet bread sandwich, excellent scones but poor jam then the piece de resistance. Five chocolate things. A great idea to serve a chocolate shell filled with white chocolate mousse and an apricot centre as the yolk with a toast 'soldier' except it was inedible. We couldn't eat any more. At least we were given a smart box to take the rest home. Decaf Tea was not listed on the menu but was available. Then poured too soon-it could have been dishwater. The champagne was great.
Very genuine welcome and obvious that staff really like people and want to give a great experience.
Full description of all the sandwiches and cakes and constant refills of tea. As this was near Easter ALL the cakes were chocolate and even for a chocoholic like me it was too rich, a fruit tart would have been very welcome. This was remedied by a very smart "doggy bag"!
Would go again and happy to reccomend to friends - particularly due to the staff.
The afternoon tea was of a high quality and the portions were generous. The tea menu was very good and they have an excellent cellist playing on Saturday afternoon.
The waitress did leave us alone for long periods - this was only a problem when we wanted to leave and pay. Also bear in mind that the wine list is quite pricey and you will pay a lot for a decent glass.
Overall a nice experience and great atmosphere.
Expensive for sandwiches, scones and cakes, but I think the quality of ingredients, excellent service and relaxed atmosphere are what you pay for, and it is in a beautiful building. The sandwiches are on different breads and they replenish them too which was unexpected, overall a great special treat, but not worth spending the money just to pass the afternoon away, unless you have lots to spare.
Meet three friends for Afternoon Tea the place was busy but it felt calm and relaxed
Food presented beautiful the service was helpful and friendly
I would recommend a visit to any one
Good value for money Extra sandwich was offered and as much tea as you could drink
We all said it was worth the money and we will all be back again
Thank you such a lovely afternoon
The food was exquisite and the service was first class. You weren't rushed and the tea and sandwiches kept coming as much as you wanted
I came across The Hansom Lounge as an afternoon tea venue following a search on the internet and I have to say I'm so pleased I did! The venue is in a stunning Victorian building and the décor and ambience inside is beautiful. The afternoon tea was excellent with a great selection of sandwiches, plain and fruit scones (with jam and clotted cream) and then finally a selection of about half a dozen pastries. We weren't able to finish it all so took some of the pastries home to enjoy later! We also had an extensive choice of teas or coffee and received as many refills as required. Along with first class service the whole afternoon tea was very enjoyable. I have already recommended it to friends and would definitely revisit in the future!
This is hands down the best classic afternoon tea I have had. Everything from the speciality bread, innovative fillings and sumptuous scones and cakes made this a culinary experience to be rivalled. Amply replenished tea and sandwiches meant we had to take our cakes home. Great value for money.
Service was faultless and totally made the experience. We were a party of five with a couple of dietary requirements happily catered for.
The harpist was incredibly talented and was the icing on the cake for the afternoon.
We arrived at 2:30 and didn't leave until after dinner time. At no point were we made to feel unwelcome. The ambience was relaxed. The only minus is the location for afternoon tea is effectively the hotel lobby, we were reminded of this every time a spa guest walked through in a white robe. That said we easily forget where we were sitting because everything else about the experience was perfect. I will definitely return.
I am sorry but I believe that I got food posion from the afternoon tea sandwiches, I believe it was the fish :( my friend that I was with we swapped sandwiches as I love fish. Plus the bread wasn't fresh. Overall the place was beautiful, the host was lovely, everything was perfect apart from the food posion that set in that night.
Great service, lovely setting, great food (and lots of it), beautiful harp playing to accompany our experience - couldn't have been better. We even got to take home the cakes we were too full to eat. Perfect.
We went for Valentine's Day, there was a fantastic harpist and the food was excellent. They hurried the courses a little but we took our time and really enjoyed ourselves.
I booked afternoon tea for my mother's 70th birthday. The food and service were excellent. Of particular note was the attention to detail with 70th birthday treats being presented by the staff.
Will definitely book again!
