The Hare & Hounds
We had a great evening and dinner at the Hare & Hounds. We were a group of 10 and placed on a great table slightly separate from the rest of the restaurant which was perfect for our celebration. The service was excellent and they dealt with all our requests efficiently and with a smile!
Always a great place to eat big steak wasn’t great and chips were dry
Terribly sorry to hear you felt the food let your visit down on this occasion. I have passed your comments on to our chef, to ensure this won't happen again in the future. I would like to thank you for your great scores for service/ambience/value and I hope we will see you again soon here at The Hare and Hounds! Thanks again for taking the time to share your thoughts with us!
We've been here many times over the years but this evening was our worst at H&H. We won't be returning.
Service was abysmal, food mediocre and the noise level in the conservatory where they put us was deafening.
Thanks so much for your review. I'm sorry to hear you were disappointed with your evening and I will feed this back to the whole team to ensure they are aware. I am disheartened we did not manage to meet our usual high standard of service and food on this occasion. We do hope you will reconsider joining us again in the future. We would love to show you how we really do things here at The Hare & Hounds! Thanks again for taking the time to provide your feedback.
Having visited many times for Sunday roast and giving a previous outstanding review. Deeply sadden by Sundays meal, we have had 100s of roast at the hare and hounds and every single one has been exceptional since. This Sunday was massively disappointing, food lacked real flavour or and was warm. Plates were cold usually served piping hot when ordering a sharing roast. It felt very half hearted what was presented. Usually your roasts carry incrediable depth and flavour to each and every single of produce. Beef was chewy and no flavour. Chicken tasted bland with no crispy skin. Potato’s again no flavour. Veg usually taste so fresh again lacked flavour. Red cabbage was incredibly sweet and a lot of acidity. The swede mash contained massive chunks of carrot. Everything was really lacking on a whole. We both didn’t enjoy our food and left the majority. We love visiting this pub especially for a roast but feel that it has massively gone downhill and won’t return anytime soon. It feels as if the kitchen just couldn’t be bothered, which when you pay £17 per person for a roast the simple basics should be there flavour and warmth we’re not
Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent visit. I am sorry you had a disappointing visit, this is rare and clearly, on this occasion, we have fallen short of our usual high standards. We pride ourselves on delicious fresh food and engaging service, so I can only apologise that this wasn’t the case on this occasion. I do hope you will consider us again in the future and allow us to restore your faith in what a wonderful venue the Hare & Hounds is.
Sat in the window over looking am amazing vue ..
Really nice food at good prices ...
Thanks so much for you comments! So pleased your visit was just as nice as the view! See you again soon!
It was a good job we booked as it was very busy. Because of that it was a bit slower service than normal and quite loud but the views and food made up for that.
We apologise for the slower service than usual, but so glad you felt the food made up for it! We will take your comments on board and share them amongst the team! Hope to see you again soon!
Good choice of starters to share between us & enjoyed the goats cheese salad but too many cold French beans. Very good service
Many thanks for your comments, really pleased you enjoyed your visit. We can't wait to see you again!
Excellent place for breakfast, excellent food and great service. I would definitely recommend
Thank you for visiting us and we are so glad you enjoyed yourselves! We hope to see you up at The Hare and Hounds again very soon.
A high standard of food, with spectacular views/scenery.
Great food, excellent service, beautiful views.
Roasts are huge, as are the puds.
Nice selection of wines too.
Overall very good, good food and very good service
Fabulous view from window table- food has improved
A regular visitor here but this was a disappointing visit. Fish and chips sent back once because fish was barely cooked (tepid in middle) and not much better the second time. Putting it down to an off day but the venue and location still a treat.
We had the veggie burgers which were tasteless, solid and dull.
Really lovely place. Good food, nice service and beautiful views.
Slightly disappointed with the standard of food as this had been reviewed as one of the best gastriouba in Bath. My starter of mackerel was fine - overpowered by too much raw onion. My husband’s prawn cocktail with lobster mayonnaise was rather bland but he enjoyed his main if brisket of beef. My slow roasted tomato risotto again was perfectly fine - nothing special and the rice wasn’t really risotto consistency as it was not creamy nor still slightly al dente. Overall perfectly okay. Sitting outside it was the location that sold it but the food on this occasion. Another Bath gastronomic experience that is oversold though luckily it was good value for money.
My wife and I dropped in for a quick evening meal after a day with the grandchildren!!
Great table on the terrace overlooking the valley... good wine and beer ... good sharing dish followed by two excellent fish n chips.
What more can you ask for a great Friday evening!!
Thanks for your fab review
Busy and way understaffed. Service was terrible; slapdash, morose and uncaring. Food tasty but lamb very over cooked. Disappointing except for view
Outstanding setting. Good food and choice of food.
Lovely setting, beutifulnviews, it was disappointing tho, as the service was very poor. They were busy, which was no fault of the stsff, but, we were waiting ages for food, and just felt overlooked. Had to leave our table to ask for more drinks and condiments for the meal, whereas normally, we would be asked if we required anything, or wanred more drinks. By the time we had been served our coffee, there was nobody else left in the place. We were seated in the conservatory, which was maybe a bit out the way, so, werent noticed as much. Disappointing, as it was to celebrate a Bir5hday.
One of the tastiest Sunday roasts I've ever had and amazing views. Come here.
Went for a Sunday lunch with family. The booking service was easy to use and the staff were really accommodating when we asked to add 2 extra adults to our party. Considering our own last minute addition, I do feel bad saying that the only downside considering the lovely venue, stunning views of the Bath countryside and decent Sunday roast was how loud and busy it was in the restaurant. The sheer number of people to serve slowed the food service down considerably, although I can’t fault the staff individually who were polite and friendly. We were sat for around 2hrs for 2 courses, and we are fast eaters! Overall we had a nice experience but if you are looking for a quiet or speedy meal, perhaps prime time Sunday lunch here is not the one.
Great food & fabulous views, nice atmosphere although there were lots of dogs in the restaurant area which was a bit off-putting.
4 of us had evening meal at Hare you come into pub, get the party seated, and then stand at the bar for 10 mins - because there's only one person serving.
Superb service and food in a beautiful setting. Would definitely return and recommend
Casual birthday Dinner. Candle in my cheese board! Staff great with our little boy.
Beautiful location and view. Very slow service (on a sunny Monday evening, which was busy but not so busy I'd expect such relaxed service). Food was fine but not amazing. Fish and chips: good crispy chips, decent mushy peas, batter on fish very thick but crisp, fish well cooked but fairly flavourless. For £14, I'd expect something a bit more special.
Dirty glass on arrival at bar. Shown a couple of tables available, opted for the conservatory as other table had not been cleared. Ordered glass of white wine. Good taste but not chilled enough. Chose 2 Sunday roasts. Both my husbands and my dinner was Luke warm. I had roast chicken which came with bread sauce. Bread sauce cold. Both meals looked over cooked and inedible. Neither of us managed to cut through the shrivelled roast potatoes. My husbands roast beef was tough. After 2 mouthfuls each asked our waitress to remove the food settled our wine bill and left.
Best roast in Bath!
Lovely food, overall let down by service. Slow, understandable as Place was very busy but very offhand service from waitress who would be better employed at back of house.
This place is lovely: gorgeous building, gorgeous views, lovely big terrace, beer garden and great area for children to run around. The food is pretty good too.
However the service is terrible. I can say this as we are regular (we live very close by). There is no continuity of serving staff and they are always new and mostly don’t have a clue. No-one seems to take responsibility for specific tables - so you struggle to get orders taken or plates cleared or extra drinks. And this was on a fairly quiet Saturday evening... The service has been like this for a few years (very high staff turnover).
I hope that the management get things sorted out: this place is so lovely, but you are frustrating customers with the service. Get some good staff and keep them (even if you have to pay a little more.
Lovely spot for an al fresco lunch over looking glorious countryside. Excellent service and atmosphere and delicious well prepared food. Excellent
Bread for prawn cocktail was burnt & so were edges of burgers. Otherwise food was lovely. Disappointed that boule set was not available as had made a note on booking as we would have brought our own.
I like to sit outside! The view is so nice! The food is also very delicious!))
A lovely pub in great location and stunning views. Has always been a favourite of mine. I felt the menu was a little limited but I did enjoy my fish and chips and my partner enjoyed his steak. Would definitely visit again when next in Bath.
It was my friends birthday . The food was good but the service was shocking.. it’s a real shame as it is a lovely pub but I won’t be returning soon as there are many others to use.
Wonderful views from the table but that is all that can be said. Service was very slow (but it was very busy) the menu was not inspiring and the food presentation was poor. A puddle of sauce scattered with lettuce and shrimps dropped on top is not my idea of a prawn salad. A burger in a large bap with a plate more than half full of chips is far too much carbo hydrate for practically anyone. The bill was wrong and had to be corrected. I am sure the experience would have been much better on a quieter day but perhaps a busy Sunday lunchtime in summer is to be avoided.
Staff clearly overwhelmed by demand. Tried to be responsive but service was slow and patchy. Food was fine. Seemed like staff were mostly new and struggling. We are regular visitors and it would be a real shame if standards were to drop.
We had an excellent breakfast and well look after by the friendly staff. We had planned on sitting outside as the weather forecast was good. However, the weather was not as promised and as such a table was set up for us inside with great views of the surrounding countryside. We have dined here before and will come back. We would recommend
