The Hare & Hounds
Saturday & Sunday 9am-10.30pm.
We had an amazing lunch here with our daughter ... the quality , presentation and flavour of each dish was superb.
Such great value for money !
Our waiter Jimmy was very attentive , helpful and friendly .
If the weather had been better we would have sat outside and further appreciated the Spectacular views .
All in all thoroughly recommend this place !
Came to H&H for Fathers' Day - late lunch (6pm). Always a good bet , as long as you've booked!.
The kids chose lovely dishes from the small persons menu and hubby tucked into a great plate of Roast Beef with his complimentary FD beer - thank you!
My Roast Chicken equivalent was disappointing - not what we are used to from H&H. Chef had run out of Bread Sauce (one of the reasons I always choose it!) and waiting staff didn't notice/know. Also no stuffing or substitutes available. Waitress was very apologetic and I felt her pain.
I think the chefs were exhausted and had had enough by 6pm - it showed, as our table was opposite the kitchen servery. I will book a much earlier table next time. Drinks all good and service was excellent.
Chequers still holds the title for Best Roast Chicken Sunday Lunch in The Bath Pub Co portfolio.
Great attentive staff and great food
Would return if in the area
The staff were absolutely delightful, the food was beautifully cooked and presented, we had a wonderful evening.
This looked like a busy place so thought we would try it. I had steak with peppercorn sauce..I've never had peppercorn sauce like it..Not the creamy version full of peppercorns, more like dark greasy gravy and i could count the peppercorns on one hand! My husband had fish and chips the fish looked nice but the little dish of tartare sauce looked like it had been sitting there a while as it had that dark film over it. Not very impressed.
I expected my roast salmon salad to have roast salmon in it! I can't get you on the Trade Descriptions Act; there were a few bits but I needed a shovel and a magnifying glass to enjoy them. Pity. The other three in the group enjoyed their food and we all thought it was a lovely location.
Hare and Hounds is located in a beautiful setting just outside of Bath. The food was good and the staff was terrific.
The Hare & Hounds never fails to deliver. I always bring my touring clients here when I visit Bath. Well done.
Thank you for an excellent lunch with a great view of Bath
I took an elderly cousin here for lunch for her birthday. She knew the pub, I didn't. We were seated at a nice table in the window (it was raining). We both opted for the sea bream which was absolutely delicious, and we both had puds, which were totally scrumptious! I was extremely impressed with the standard of food, and only wish I lived nearer!
Definitely recommend this pub which also boasts fantastic views.
We were very pleased with the location, ambience, and menu. We were a party of four and three of our meals were superb. There was a problem, however, with one meal, but it was dealt with very professionally by our table waiter, Nathan. He was always in control of the bar & dining area & is a credit to your business.
The menu is versatile and the food was lovely, 3 of us had the hake croquettes which were yummy but the chicken was on the tough side (the flavours of the overall dish were delicious though). The surroundings including the view over bath are great especially on a sunny day. The only thing that let our experience down was the staff. I thought the service was forced and very transactional, verging on rude.
We met up with friends here for Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, but was let down by the very long wait. It was busy and with a lack of soft furnishings, it was very noisy. Fine for our group with small children, but elderly people or couples might find it too loud. Outside space was great, with the added bonus of a beautiful view for the adults and an small adventure playground for the children. Overall I would recommend and we would visit again to see if they could do better with the service.
Went for Sunday lunch to celebrate a birthday with family. Nice, relaxed atmosphere although acoustics very noisy in the conservatory. Food was mostly good, fish and chips excellent and roast nice enough apart from some very tough beef.
Service was really poor - took 50 minutes for food to be received which is a nightmare with children and had to ask for water and the bill repeatedly before it arrived.
Not as good as on previous visits which have been great and are the reason we went. Wouldn't rush back.
Such a lovely building and view! The food was unbelievably good. Couldn’t recommend enough!
Our beef burgers were excellent but the bream dish looked more like a starter then a main meal at £18 although well cooked.
The best value was the cheese and biscuits which was very good.
Service excellent and our request for a window table made our visit very enjoyable.
The Hare & Hounds is a large pub set at the top of a hill in Bath, with magnificent views over the City and beyond. The staff were warm and welcoming and we sat on the terrace in the sun before moving to the dining area for dinner. We shared a baked camembert and then had the steak which was perfectly cooked. There is a very extensive wine list, reasonably priced. Would very much recommend this pub for just a drink or to eat. It appeared very child friendly.
Excellent service , beautiful setting, delicious food. If you want to wow your visitors, this place is a must!
Service was good, very friendly. The batter on the fish was a bit dark and oily, perhaps the frying oil was a bit old. My son's child burger was a little on the overcooked side and we were surprised that the 'bun' was an English muffin. Would have been nice to have a proper bun. The view as always was amazing and my son loves the play area!
Relaxed environment, fun pub, great views and good food.
Excellent as usual !! Superb views worth a trip , great service
The Hare and Hounds has spectacular views. Food is freshly prepared and of good quality. It is pricey. Also very busy, so leave plenty of time if you're "going on" somewhere!
Food was good although felt it a bit pricey! £17 for a roasted mackerel with some beetroot etc . I usually only ever have a main course which I find sufficient but was still hungry afterwards. Also service slow not enough waiting staff. Have eaten here several times previously and always enjoyed it by unfortunately not on this occasion. My fellow diners who chose a beef dish couldn’t finish theirs, so maybe just wrong choice?!
Waitress who served us was really grumpy! Think it had probably been a long day serving people in the hot but still. We had to ask for table to be wiped even though it hadn’t been cleaned after previous people and she did this relucantly and only did a third of it. Drinks took a while to come. Main course was fab, really lovely and other waitress who brought some meals was friendly and helpful. Didn’t particularly enjoy the sticky toffee as could taste the grains of sugar in the sauce. Would pretty much always leave a tip but her manner was just so grumpy that we didn’t. Have had other lovely meals here so not sure if I’d recommend to friends or not
This is a great location, wonderful after dog walking. Good food, good variety, bit expensive for what it is but typical Bath really. Staff were very helpful and reasonably dynamic, even after a long hard day.
It took so long in between ordering and courses to even get a drink. We were never asked if we needed anything or asked for more drinks, we constantly had to keep getting up to get things etc. When we did say something we were told that they were really busy, I do appreciate this but we had booked so it wasn’t as if we just rocked up and I know that they were turning away people for food so they were aware of what there capacity was. It really made my birthday meal unenjoyable and quite frankly stressful. We are regulars to the hare and hound and it was obvious that they couldn’t really cope. Wish we had gone somewhere else now.
The Hare and Hounds always provides a good menu, good quality food, good atmosphere, friendly bright staff, clean premises. I love going there.
The view is great but the food, value for money and service aren't good.
This is our local ‘Gastro pub’ and we keep going back - walking distance helps though it has a big car park! Always busy with a good family buzz, great views - make sure you ask for a window seat when reserving which you will need to do. Only reason for the lower rating is took my parents there and service was slower than normal and gammon was not great and too salty, rest was lovely. Would recommend especially Sunday lunch though you need to book
Disappointing menu unless you wanted a main course; there was a limited “ starter “ section and no blackboard specials.
Good service and nice atmosphere.
Had the sharing roast platter with a friend which was very generous and good value for money (three meats and all the trimmings). Tasted AMAZING and the views top it all off - all in all the prefect place to go for a Sunday roast 10/10 would recommend !
The food we had was excellent however we booked a table and they had run out of most options on the menu which was a disappointment and better planning probably required on their part. Service was patchy. Had to send back cocktails as they weren’t made correctly at bar. One waitress told us there wasn’t much left on the menu but didn’t make any suggestions about what to have instead or make any concessions which was a bit of a dampener.
Quality of food saved it. Service needs improvement.
Had been looking forward to eating here all week as the venue is lovely with amazing outside space. Disappointed when it came to ordering that there was a few dishes at 6pm no longer available . The waitress didn't point this out when we were seated or when the menu was bought to us. Turns out the starter and main I wanted had run out. I chose another starter the mushroom on sour dough bread and I really didn't like it and neither did my date. The main course of lamb and cous cous was very tasty but not my first choice. Would recommend that the waiting staff let diners knows when being seated what is no longer available on the menu.
Really good food and amazing views. Veey good service and a nice relaxed vibe! Burger and fish and chips were excellent.
Frequent visitor.... v enjoyable as usual . Pleasant service. Well situated table. Good service
I've been the Hare & Hounds many times and it is always a pleasant experience
Fantastic venue, service always great, great view, great kids play area, great atmosphere. Love the new sharing roast!
Stunning views, delicious food and great ambiance
Lovely location for a drink before your meal .Good service and nice food . We will be back .
