The Hare & Hounds
Saturday & Sunday 9am-10.30pm.
Fantastic lunch as always. My favourite place to eat in Bath
Recently visited for Sunday lunch; every element of the lunch was delicious - tender meat, tasty and unusual vegetables, great yorshire puds and roast potatoes had crispy exteriors and fluffy interiors. Our empty plates were testaments to how much we all enjoyed our food.
Always a great place to eat - we bought our dog along for the first time, which was a bit nerve racking as he can be very excitable. Thanks to all the staff (and other customers) who made a huge fuss of him, making him relaxed and well behaved, leaving us to be able to enjoy the evening.
It was good but the food either used to be better or because it was very busy wasnt very good. Its still one of my favourite places in the area and next time will order something different.
In Bath for a weekend .We always stop at the Hare and Hounds for lunching the way down as a great spot and great start to break .
Food and service always great .
Disappointed with the food, not up to their usual standard.
This place is fantastic. We went in the early evening and were treated to a wonderful view out of the gorgeous large windows. The place itself has a wonderfully warm, homely feel. The food was simply incredible. Good veggie options and a vegan special option made the place perfect for me and my partner. Service was attentive and wonderfully friendly and the bill was incredibly reasonable for the amount of food. Portion sizes were fab and the creme brule dessert was a real highlight.
With family,we chose the Hare and Hounds as being convenient for the racecourse. The pub fish and chips was excellent and the sole special was good but because we did not see a menu for this option as it was a special for that day, had no idea it would have crab sauce all over it. This was fine for one of us but I am very allergic to shell fish of any kind and we had to send it back. The staff were friendly and helpful and the views from the window table we had were spectacular. Although we did not sample it, the snack food looked good value. Will probably try it again but stick to the main menu.
Sadly, this is the second disappointing experience at the Hare and Hounds. The slowness of service - especially to get drinks - was exasperating, the noise levels impossible to talk over (we had two older ladies with us for a treat Sunday lunch) and my roast beef too tough to cut without a steak knife. To make things worse, the table behind us had a yappy dog which the owners let bark away, making everyone wince and jump. We tut-tutted very loudly, as did other neighbours, suggesting the dog should be outside/in the car, but really the staff should have asked this of them.
The roast potatoes were obviously cooked early in the day and simply microwaved - very hard and tasteless. No extra gravy, no ramekins for sauces (they swirled around on a plate), no water offered or brought until we asked, dirty glasses.... I'm afraid this will be our last visit.
Dining area near the bar is very noisy (due to lack of soft furnishings) so we retired to the decked patio away from a particularly boisterous party - staff transitioned our order without fuss and kept our table open to return if the weather deteriorated.
Roast dinner was good especially the beef and supersized Yorkshire Pudding.
Hadn’t been for a while so decided to try the new seasonal menu and as ever we had a very good choice of dishes and both dishes were expertly cooked with good presentation the staff were bright and friendly the wine menu covers all bases and the vista is exceptional so all in all a very enjoyable early dinner and definitely would recommend.
An enjoyable meal with a wonderful view. Attentive service even if they did completely forget our starters.
Lovely views over Bath. Friendly staff, good food, maybe a little pricey, but overall lovely venue and food good.
Loved the food here, great setting too despite the rain and lack of views!
My two niggles were the poor knife given to us, really struggled to cut through the beef (even with the beef being nice and tender) could have really used a proper steak knife or similar.
The other small problem was a large group of people who had finished lunch and held what seemed like a family gathering in the middle of the restaurant. Very loud and very close to the table stood right next to our table. Not really the setting for that kind of gathering.
Other than that, exceptional Sunday lunch!
My family (including 2 dogs) came for Sunday lunch on a very wet day - the food was great as always and the service friendly.
The food was lovely and all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. It was a shame it was raining as the views are spectacular, would definitely go back for a Sunday lunch.
Fabulous views, go on a sunny day. Breakfast is average.
Wow! This place ticks all the boxes for me! The food was amazing and the gin cocktails were lovely! The staff were lovely and attentive and the view is spectacular! Highly recommend!
Lovely food, great service, always a favourite place for a drink, food or both!
Incredible views. Delicious food at a reasonable price. Highly recommend!
Very nicely presented food was badly let down by excessive delay( only explained as we left) and surly service.
We have been 4 times before but this time two meals were pretty bad. beef shin pie as a special but very salty and pastry burnt. Shame.
Great place, we went here for a engagement dinner.
This is a really pretty looking pub on the hill coming out of Bath. The views from the outdoor seating are stunning. There is a decent sized car park which is a bonus in the area.
The food is generally good and averaged priced for Bath.
Service can be slow and unengaging -not unusual in busy Bath.
Thank you for being so helpful and ensuring vegan options. Food a delight in equally delightful surroundings.
Food was very good. Very noisy in conservatory could hardly hear yourself talk. Spoilt our romantic anniversary meal.
Great for easy lunchtime Sunday dinner with friends
An excellent meal at the end of a long day travelling. We were an hour late, and when we rang to tell them (on route), they said to not hurry but drive safely and that they would hold the reservation for us. When we arrived they genuinely welcomed us and seated us at a lovely table by the window overlooking Bath. The waitress was so helpful to our daughter, who can't have gluten and must have run to the kitchen at least five times during the meal to check with the chef about options. The chef delivered lovely plates of food adapted from the menu for her (and ours was superb). A simply faultless meal from start to finish. Only our second visit, but I haven't found a finer pub for views, hospitality, food or service anywhere (and I'm no spring chicken)
This was a disappointing visit to a venue we have used regularly over the years. The menu felt more limited and uninspiring than in the past. We were seated at a drafty table (the door was open for free flow onto the terrace but it was not as warm as it has been recently). My chicken schnitzel was very tough and I left half of it. I reported this to the waitress which elicited very little response. It felt like we were dining at a popular venue that is riding on its previous good reputation . A shame .
Genuinely warm service and welcome.
Very good 3 starters for £10 deal.
The Hare & Hounds is in a brilliant location overlooking beautiful countryside. The staff are attentive without being too "pushy" and were happy to leave us to natter! The food was plentiful, fresh, well cooked and creative as well as being delicious. Looking forward to going again.
We enjoyed our food especially as it was a beautiful evening and the view was fabulous. However it was a Sunday and had obviously been very busy as the restaurant and outside area looked as it needed a good clean/clear up. Seeing food on the floor and empty glasses etc left on tables is not what I want to see.
Such a shame as this let the place down.
The waitress in charge of the area we were sat in was on break but no other member of staff covered her area for her so we had to wait ages to be seated and I had to prompt staff for menus which after 15 minutes I just fetched myself. I then had to prompt staff to come and serve us which took another 15 minutes so it was was more of a waiting game than a lovely meal out. Drinks we ordered before food showed up 20 minutes after we’d all finished eating. It just seemed like a huge breakdown in communication from the start and I’m pretty disappointed with the entire affair. Nice view.
Can’t get enough of this place!! Took my friends from London and they said one of the best pubs they have been to! Also has celiac options! Love it
The service at this venue was very welcoming and friendly, that coupled with the views across the valley make this a safe choice venue. There was a group of 6 of us and overall we voted the food above average....but only just. The ribs are a good sized starter but they could have done with more of a sauce or something to liven them up. The steak was OK, but not special. The Fish and Chips main was very good as were all of the starters.
Lovely food, amazing views. Kids enjoyed playing in the garden after lunch. Service slow.
Fantastic food, great service from warm and welcoming staff. But the location steals the show, such an breathtaking view from the terrace.
Always very good but this time my Pork Schnitzel coating was a little burnt.
Rubbish food, poor service.
Nice location and views but doesn’t make up for everything else
Great food but pricey. Amazing view. Good service.
