We booked a meal for two for our wedding anniversary.
We had to ask for our shared starter, as it had not arrived after an hour of ordering it.
It appeared that our order had not been sent to the kitchen.
The waiter gave us a free drink each as an apology.
We also received complimentary desserts, as again, we were forgotten.
We appreciated the gesture, but the restaurant wasn’t busy enough to warrant the mistakes made.
Beautiful pub though.
I would absolutely recommend - great food and great location
You know it’s a good pub when the doggy visitors are given a warmer welcome than the humans.
And the food was superb too!
We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal service good staff very friendly , was a bit dark where we were
seated but everthing else was great, will definitely be back.
Not as good as our first visit. Ordered ribeye and was told they only had sirloin. Peppercorn sauce tasted like gravy and was replaced by exactly the same sauce when raised.
When bill arrived, we were charged for ribeye steak. When queried, got told sirloin was more expensive. Funny as they didn’t even offer sirloin on the menu, so unable to compare??? Genuinely didn’t feel the size of the sirloin we received was worth £22.
I appreciate it’s a family pub and I am a parent myself, but noisy toddlers running around at 9:30pm on a Saturday night, not what I expect or want.
Lovely snacks for lunch, very friendly and helpful staff. Good weather meant we could sit outside and admire the view. Good for dogs, too
A late booking on a Sunday caused no problem for the staff. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Just what we needed
We had a bit of a drive out to the Hawk but it was worth it. Greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table. Nice area at the back of the bar although you may want to ask to be in the separate room if you wanted a quiet meal. Food was very good quality and nicely presented. Overall we really liked it !
Went here with my adult son. He had the calves liver and I had the halibut. Absolutely gorgeous food. Good selection of gin and alcohol free beer. Service very good although it did take a long time for the food to come out but that's the deal when meals are prepared fresh. Desserts didn't tempt us.
Recommended! Great evening, food and warm welcome. Will definitely go again.
Good quality food served with very good humoured staff, highly recommended for lunch
Great location and atmosphere, only left down due to the lack of airflow through the building. On warm days with hot food being brought out the old buildings inside temperature becomes unbearable.
However great outside seating if space is available.
We would highly recommend
Lovely place to eat food is always great and thoroughly enjoyed my birthday meal.
Wanted somewhere different to our usual places to eat, found the Hawk online and figured why not!
Food was immense, everything was perfectly cooked, and the staff were lovely
Not somewhere we'd go ALL the time but only because its a little above the amount we could regularly afford to pay for a meal. Worth every penny though!
Cannot fault a single thing about the evening. Will be returning as soon as possible
Delicious food, friend staff, pretty pub setting in a lovely village.
Excellent food and the staff were really accommodating of a number of allergies. They were really swept up and dealt with them really well.
The service was very slow and communication was poor! I certainly know how many staff was working because I was told and that the kitchen was ‘slammed’ however this was not communicated in any other way!
Might I suggest if the kitchen is busy you tell people when they order and manage it.... as a customer I don’t need or want to know your staffing issues!!!
Fantastic food. Wonderfully flavoured rare roast beef dinner.
Met with a friend to take her out to lunch nearby. The whole experience was great will definitely book again.
Very friendly and helpful staff
Food good and reasonably priced
Only downside was the "toasted croutons" supplied with the parfait, so hard they were in danger of breaking teeth, readily replaced by waiter with bread
Great looking pub, friendly efficient staff, amazing burger!
Great find, lovely sunday roasts and beef burgers. Friendly staff. Only comments were that families are mixed with couples, so if you want a peaceful meal, maybe not for you.
Some things about eating at the hawk were great, lovely ambience, 1 (sardine starter) of the four dishes we had was superb. Unfortunately 2 were average (pate and ceaser salad) and the steak was downright disappointing. Service was slow even though it was quiet.
Our most fave place to eat and drink. Staff are so lovely too.
The food was decent although the service was a bit strange since I had a pork chop (on the bone) served in a bowl which made it difficult to cut the chop. Also, I ordered a bottle of wine from the "Bin ends List" and was served a different bottle, which I didn't realize until the wine had been poured. Normally, this wouldn't be a big issue but they make a point of offering a special list of limited items and had no idea they had served the wrong wine. There was no apology just blank looks. I assume they do not expect a big crowd on Sunday night so several items were not available. Overall, it was nothing to write home about about, and definitely not as good as previous visits. Not sure I'll go back since there are plenty of other options.
Lovely country pub with a good atmosphere. We were seated in a side room next to a lovely fire which would be lovely in the winter. All members of staff were really welcoming, friendly and could see they were happy working there. The food was brilliant and didn’t have to wait to long between courses. Can’t wait to go back to try the Sunday roasts and the live music evenings.
I really love the Hawk, but I would love to see some greater variation on the menu, which does not seem to change month on month. The food is delicious but I’d like things see more options without chips or cheese.
Very impressed with the friendly service at the Hawk. They happily accommodated my daughters request for a smaller portion of the soup off the main menu to suit her 9 year old sized tummy! Chef was more than happy and so was she. Tomato soup was delicious too!
Really love the hawk. Have been several times over the years, decided to go back for Fathers Day. We were welcomed quickly although you could see it had been very busy. We got here at 2:45pm and quite a few people had already finished. We were quickly seated at the back of the bar in a separate room with other tables, immediately I saw the mess on the carpet. Wasn’t a very good impression for me, it should have been swept after people had finished because to me it looked dirty. The tables were ok not fantastic I have to say. They were clean though. Waited about 15 mins to be served which was fine as I know how busy it was. The menu to be honest didn’t wow me or my husband. Very selective menu to be honest not a great choice of food, whether that was because being Sunday and main point was Sunday roasts I don’t know but other then this you had burger, chicken burger, fish/chips, fish in an orange sauce and to me looked too runny and sloppy. He wasn’t that impressed with it ate as much as he could but would say that needs looking at. Starters were ok, I had the chicken pate which I found very bland, deserts were good. Can’t go wrong with these.
Staff were very attentive, could not fault anyone, polite, happy, chatty.
The hawk is such a lovely place but I would say needs a refurb. Just looks dirty, the carpet needs replacing with wood as this would be much easier to clean. The spot lights they have need changing as they are that strong the ceiling has burnt. Definitely lacking something, very dark, needs brightening up, make it very more welcome like the entrance to where the rooms are
Eccellente service switch friendly staff, food selection is limited but good quality.
Exceptional service and delicious, interesting food. Fabulous!
Lovely pub, good atmosphere, friendly staff & good service. We have been here a couple of times now and enjoy it each time we come!
Great food and hospitality as always.
The Hawk at Amport is a good local restaurant/ pub. It was very busy when we went so it's better to have an early reservation on a Saturday as parking can be challenging. The food was well presented and the fish and chips were a large portion so good value for money. Staff are friendly and we didn't have to wait long for our meals.
Very good food and service. Expensive beer. Attractive building. Plenty of outside seating.
Sea bream and Pork Tomahawk were lovely. Eaton mess was ok but rather smallish and nothing special. Service was wonderful, friendly and attentive.
Everything was great food awesome only slight issue was when we arrived we stood at the bar for nearly 15mins without being acknowledged
I appreciate they were busy but no-one said hello or said they were busy and would be there in a minute which was a bit annoying
We went for lunch, midweek, so unsurprisingly the place was virtually empty, but that was okay for us. Having been there before in the evening on several occasions, I know it’s usually packed. On this particular occasion, everything felt a bit low key, quite on the relaxed side - the food was nice enough, but I have had much better there on previous occasions, so I think it was just a one off due to the fact that it was a late lunch in the middle of the week - however altogether we were happy and I wouldn’t hesitate recommending The Hawk, based on my previous experiences and friends’ comments, as it’s usually excellent!
Great pub, wonderful food and super service. I will go back again for sure!!
