We went for breakfast. Apart from the cup which wasn’t fully clean (this was replaced and a fresh pot of tea provided and some cost taken off the bill as an apology) the only thing that could have been better was the sausage. Whilst it was cooked through it looked anaemic, and this took away the enjoyment of eating it.
I have eaten at this restaurant a few times because i like the quietness of the upstairs.
However, the restaurant upstairs was closed (not sure if this is for refurbishment or not) so we were seated in the bar downstairs, which at the start of our meal was quite quiet. Food as always was nice i had sausages, mash and onion gravy (sausages were quite small, more like skinny sausages and there were 3) there was enough mash potato and the onion gravy in proportion to the meal which was nice. My mum had chargrilled vegetable flatbread which she said was really nice, although it looked like a pizza and my uncle had the burger with sautéed potatoes.
Bar staff were very friendly, and as usual this was good value for money. Would have been nice to have received an email from The Hide to say that the upstairs bar was closed but I will still visit as I like the ambience and service.
Last minute booking as I was delayed getting a train from Liverpool Street station nearby. Hide at the Bull got decent reviews on OpenTable, so i thought it would be a good bet. However I was disappointed with the meal. The halloumi bites were a bit tasteless - frozen meal-standard, and the steak and chips were mediocre; fine for a quick bite, but not for foodies. The upstairs restaurant was empty when i got there - i had to go find someone to take an order, and there was zero ambience. The only saving grace was the waitress who served me was very efficient and well mannered.
A complete disaster! Booked a table via open table for 8.30pm the same night as a surprise valentine meal. Travelled almost an hour to get there to get to find the restaurant empty. I went to the bar and told the barmaid I had a table booked. She walked off to get the manager to which I saw her mouth to a colleague ‘o f#?k’. The manage cams out (extremely arrogant) and said the kitchen is closed. I said I booked a table and he said was it via open table I said yes. He then said well I decide when I close the kitchen so it’s open tables problem. I said it was there problem as he didn’t tell open table then as they are still taking bookings. My booking was clearly on his booking list as he showed me on his iPad. It ruined the one night that me and my partner was able to get out and enjoy ourselves. I’ll never be using open table or going to The Hide at the Bull.
We all had burgers as it was only planned as a light lunch. They were all very good however and I will definitely eat at the Bull again and next time be slightly more adventurous. I marked the ambience down slightly as we ended up eating in the Pub rather then the dining room as the dining room wasn't open for lunch service.
Nice dining for a business dinner. Bar downstairs is very busy but doesn’t interfere with the small but charismatic dining area. We were 5 and only other diners was a table of 2. Good food and good atmosphere.
Second time for Sunday roast - excellent again, as was the rest of the menu. Top service and good selection of drinks
Staff were super attentive, food was swift and very tasty indeed.
Sunday roast was back on the menu - and was excellent - combined with a good choice of beers and wines. Will return
I have been to the Bull and Hide before, and had such a nice experience with my friend we decided to revisit. This time round however was a bit of a let down. The food was average and the service was very inattentive. I hope it was a one off, because I thought this place had potential.
Disappointing night at the Hide and Bull last Thursday. We were the only people in the whole restaurant. We booked an opentable deal with a discount and were initially told we could not have it and offered another less attractive offer. When I insisted we got the deal I had email confirmation of it was then reinstated. It was awkward and embarrassing. The food was Ok but nothing special. The sea bass portions were very small. The wine was not properly chilled. Our waiter tried to provide a good service but unfortunately there were a few misunderstandings down to his linguistic abilities. In view of the fact that it was not an expensive night out, and we did not want anything else to spoil the evening, we decided not to say anything. I regularly dine out and take responsibility for bookings but would be reluctant to book here again.
Had breakfast here - ordered avocado and toast as I wasn't hungry.
It was 2 slices of dry toast with less than half an avocado sliced and placed on top.
Nothing else. Extremely bland and dry.
Although £4.50 would still expect more.
I dined here in September 2016 and the food was very good then, but seems to have dropped in quality and standard. This was disappointing. The meals we had were OK. Of the three shared starters the whitebait was best. Haloumi was over cooked and tasteless unfortunately.
Only booked about a week before we went .
Had a fantastic evening . We weren't rushed . Lots of room decor lovely .
Good an d service were amazing and to top it off had a special offer discount on all food and drink 😀
Will definitely visit again.
We dined with a friend on Valentines Day, it was the perfect spot as it allowed us to chat with little background noise. The food was delicious, the service was great, would definitely go back.
My friend found this place by chance and it was a great find. Moments from Liverpool Street station - a bonus as it was raining - the bar downstairs had a buzzy atmosphere but we went straight upstairs to the restaurant as we'd met somewhere else for pre drinks. We were the first 4 people in the restaurant but that was fine with us, the decor was great and it felt very welcoming. A staff member arrived and was very friendly seating us and giving out menus. We ordered our drinks as a few more diners started arriving and then looked at the menu which had something for everyone, including vegetarians. The service throughout the night was great, the food was lovely and enjoyed by all and reasonably priced. All in all a great night out for 2 couples with a couple of extra guests meeting us there later on for a drink. Would recommend and will definitely be returning soon!
Delicious Sunday lunch at good value, with speedy service
A review on the whole package was not possible.
On arriving at the restaurant there were no staff to greet us. Bearing in mind I had booked a table, for my wife's birthday, we were shocked at the lack of staff in the restaurant. I therefore went to the bar in The Bull to check that we should just go up to the restaurant and was advised yes. We therefore went back up to the restaurant to yet again find no member of staff to show us to our table.
As a result of the lack of staff we decided to leave meaning that I could not treat my wife.
Thursday lunch with a client, only person in the restaurant area. Very disappointed. Food okay, service was excellent as we had the waitress to ourselves.
When I first arrived there was a huge crowd outside the pub and I thought I was never going to be able to hear my friend over a dinner table, but realised the restaurant was upstairs. For a while we were the only ones in the restaurant, the waitress was very pleasant, she didn't hover to take our order or harass us to finish up. The food and service were very good and I will definitely be going back there to eat.
Good service - our group was well taken care of. Lovely setting in the upstairs dining room. Had a lovely evening.
The food was magnificant, staff were friendly & engaging, made us feel welcome - we'll be back next time we're in London
A nice little haven by Liverpool Street in Devonshire Row. Upstairs is quite small and was quiet to start but got busy quickly. Nice menu but I chose Tofu which was odd and I wouldn't order again - but other nice choices. Great venue for business lunch!
I was disappointed with this place. From the existing reviews, i was expecting something much better. The staff was polite but not very efficient, orders took very long and when they finally arrived - we were missing some dishes - moules frites without fries isn't moules frites. The tuna: nicely cooked but 4 tiny pieces and a leaf of pak choi left me unimpressed (and hungry). This was a lunch meeting, at least it was quiet (3 other tables occupied). I won't go back and don't recommend either.
I was dining on the ground floor and expected the first floor, but due to time of the day the upper room was not offered. Everything was fine. I liked the way the menu was structured. The burgers were a bit to rare and the level of grilling wasn't asked. The meat wasn't perfect, but overall fine. I would probably expect a bit more from such place, but with a little improvement it would be a great place to go!
The Bull and Hide was very near to Liverpool Street making it easy access to venture into anywhere in London after leaving the bags. The rooms was absolutely amazing and the bed was so comfy I did not want to get out of it. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We dined in the restaurant and the food was amazing . Overall there is nothing bad to say about the experience at all, it was a fantastic experience and I would not think twice about returning.
Giulia looked after me and my guests very well giving us some good recommendations. The food and service was excellent. My first visit but I will be back b
First time at the Hide but will be sure to return. Reasonably priced meals and friendly and efficient service. Can also get some decent beers too.
The boneless fiery chicken wings are amazing (unless you don't like spicy food of course...)!
Big bull breakfast at The Hide at the Bull is a winner.
Five of us decided to have dinner upstairs at the Bull, chosen because City bars tend to be very noisy on a Friday evening. We were not disappointed with the venue. However, the food was a tad disappointing. I ordered tuna which was covered in too much Soy sauce, hence my fish lost its flavour. A friend and I shared a cheese platter, which meanly gave us four very, very thin crackers each. Others who had a "mini-dessert" were probably mislead by how "mini" it could be. Very small indeed, even described as such. I'm not sure why the desserts had to be "mini" but it was a disappointment. Also, the wine was on the expensive side, albeit we had three bottles of red wine, starting with a Shiraz at £39! Foodies beware!
Four of us enjoyed a (very) long lazy Friday lunch: we started with a drink in the pub downstairs half an hour before our table was booked for (very good ale selection) then headed up for lunch. We had 5 small plates between us for starters and all the dishes were extremely good. For mains we each had our own plate and, again, we were unanimous in our praise - my own 'bacon steak' was fabulous.
Very good, friendly service on top of the excellent food: we will definitely be returning.
We had dinner in the pub area, it was nice, a bit noisy, but the food was good. It would've been even nicer if the waiter actually knew what was on the menu, so that she could say a bit more than just reading out the description written on the menu :)
We had drinks in the bar while watching the Rugby World Cup Final, had dinner for five in the gorgeous restaurant upstairs, stayed the night and had lunch for five in the bar on Sunday. Wonderful location close to Liverpool St. Station yet easy walking distance of the City and areas such as Spitalfields and Columbia Road.
Tremendous atmosphere, great food, delicious English wine, really comfortable room and particularly liked coffee/tea/drinks available in kitchen. Charming waitress, even with her scary Halloween face!
We like this place and will be back.
Only niggle is: service charge should always be voluntary not automatically added to the bill.
My friends and I can recommend The Bull for breakfast, good value for money, excellent service, cheery, helpful and attentive staff. All in all a good way to start the day.
Had a delicious and thoroughly enjoyable lunch with a client who works 5 minutes stroll from here and didn't know the place existed. Tucked away just a few steps back from the hustle of Bishopsgate, lovely relaxing decor and friendly attentive service from our waiter Enrico. We ate main course and dessert from an excellent menu with enough choice without being overwhelming. Will definitely be returning.
A lovely and intimate restaurant, quiet enough for a romantic evening. Food and service was great, and there's a little cool bar too
Great food and nice restaurant, staff could maybe smile a bit more.... I asked if I could have something from the bar menu rather then the main menu and was told NO.
I would go here again as the food was nice and the price was good.
I was not aware we would of been sitting upstairs and had someone who struggles with stairs! Again, this was not the end of the world but would have been nice to of known we would be seating upstairs.
I arranged to meet my manager for lunch. Excellent food and service in a quiet location
The refurbishment has been done to a high standard and is understated classy. Very good menu with some unusual options - the apple, gorgonzola and toasted cashew nut salad was excellent. It was very quiet for a Friday lunch, I suspect it might not have been found yet but I am sure it will be. Very good overall
