The Hot Stove Restaurant is an elegant space that retains many of its original features. An old stove oven glows at the heart of the restaurant giving you a truly comfortable and warming experience while an amazing private outdoor courtyard ensures dining al-fresco is a real treat.
We look forward to welcoming you at The Hot Stove Restaurant!
The Hot Stove never disappoints! I've visited five times in the past year and each meal has been an occasion worth remembering. Their beetroot risotto is delicious and the provision of a completely separate vegetarian menu much appreciated. The more traditional meat main courses are impeccably presented and cooked, and the service is always superb.
Very sorry to see this gem closing, but hopefully back soon in a new form.
Fantastic food, ambience and service Would definitely recommend and looking forward to a return visit
My husband and I arrived in Dublin from Canada for a 2 week holiday. I knew we would be tired on our first day after the overnight flight so I wanted to arrange a place to eat ahead of time near our hotel at Croak Park so we wouldn't be trying to find something at the last minute. I had read good things about The Hot Stove so I made a reservation. Overall the restaurant was lovely and I would certainly return if I am back in Dublin. The ambiance is elegant but overdone and I love the exposed brick. We were there for the 2-course pre-theatre menu. My husband started with the chorizo croquettes which were to die for. I wish I had chosen them! Followed by the braised brisket, which was also fantastic. I started with a pea risotto which was very good and the pea flavour was forefront to the dish and very fresh. My only issue with the whole meal was my slow-roasted wild boar shoulder. While it had good flavour and seasoning, it was exceptionally tough. When I read "Slow-roasted" on the menu, I expected almost fork-tenderness. However, it was a bit like an overdone pork-chop. It was so hard to cut through I had to ask for a steak knife which only slightly improved by ability to slice it. I was trying to look at other diners to see if anyone was struggling as much as me! The duck fat chips we got were great and overall the meal was excellent but I hope my main course to be better prepared next time.
We were a party of 4 with food intolerances - garlic being the main one. Regrettably despite asking for an alternative sauce for the steak, none was forthcoming. We were assured that one of the starters was without garlic - courgette flower, but when it arrived it came without the main ingredient. In place of the courgette flower was a pile of lettuce; a bit much for 10€! We answered the inquiry about the food by advising that we found the steak to be tough. Rather than apologising for even empathising, they inferred that it was attributable to a blunt knife! A replacement knife didn't mitigate its poor quality. I appreciate any restaurant can have an "off night" but if handled with dignity and courtesy, the overall experience can be a favourable one. However the poor service and blatant superiority we experienced from the staff was inexcusable. As a frequent diner who's been fortunate to have experienced many a fine meal, I most certainly would not recommend this restaurant.
Returned with my wife for our second visit on Friday, 26th August.
Can't say anything bad about it.
The food was amazing, The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive without standing over the table the entire time and as it was a nice evening we ate outside, which was nice and quiet.
Will definitely be back and highly recommend it.
Slow roasted shoulder of boar was meltingly good and an excellent follow on from an exquisite pea risotto starter
A real case of hit and miss. The starters were amazing. My main course was inedible. The staff were friendly but untrained. All dishes were scraped down on a table in the middle of the dining area - very strange. The dining room and bar are lovely but the owners need to take a serious look at how they are charging prices for fine fining, but not following through.
The restaurangs location feels a little of from city center but we got a nice suprise when we went down the stairs. We rang the bell and the waiter open and we got a warm welcome. The restaurang had a very good atmospher. The service was very good and the food and wine was excellent. You really got good value for the money.
Beautiful food, excellent service with a good selection of wines. And not over priced...
We visited Ireland for a week with our college kids. I researched restaurants for our visit and this restaurant appeared in several articles. It is located on a charming street just around the corner from a vibrant city plaza. The restaurant is modern Irish and very charming. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable . The food was really delicious.
Best meal we had in Dublin. Every course was excellent. Downstairs location. Near the Gate Theatre.
Went for a pre-theater dinner. A very warm welcome with a satisfying cocktail. Gracious service. Food was inventive and fabulous. Almost a Dublin must.
Great location for gate theatre. Very good food. Fresh and served quickly. We were pre theatre so this was important. Service not great. Unsure who our waiter was. Staff seemed not to know what was going on. Manager a bit brash. One waiter did not know what he was doing. Menu a little limited and we were only given pre theatre. Had to ask for a la carte and this was a big deal! Despite partial order from a la carte timing was fine. Good value for money. Would go again.
Absolutely lovely, food excellent and staff very helpful and friendly. I did note on email when booking it was my friend's birthday, it would have been nice if this had been recognised, however overall very good and will definitely be making a return visit!
Went for a pre theatre treat. Food amazing, staff very polite and courteous and decor beautiful. I have a severe shellfish allergy so eating out can be difficult but the
Hot Stove allowed me to relax and enjoy my food. Have highly recommend the Hot Stove to friends and family. Enjoy your meal
A very enjoyable experience, the food met all expectations. The staff were efficient and friendly. We booked for 9:00 and when we arrived the restaurant was reasonably full with the earlier sitting. However, by 10:00 we were the only people in the restaurant, not too sure if this was because of the Bank holiday weekend, but credit to the staff we were not rushed to leave. I would certainly go back again but at an earlier time.
Service and seating was good. Food was great nothing fancy just tasty and filling.
Potato salad was a bit on the dry side but chicken was juicy and moist
Nice atmosphere and decor
Drinks were great
Good restaurant Friendly and efficent staff
Nicely decorated restaurant clver use of lighting as it is in a basement
Well priced menu Good choices on menu
Excellent for pre theatre dinner
Nice little extras given ie Petit fours with coffee
Would defnitely reccommend to others
It was my wifes birthday we'd tried other restaurants in the area but had heard about the hot stove so decided to give it a try we were welcomed and shown to our table service was attentive food very good wine list although not extensive was good and reasonably priced the overall rxperience was good and will definitely be going back and telling our friends about this little gem
Food was poor, we felt there was little thought put into whether each dish worked rather than just being components on a plate. Service was stilted, not at all what you would expect considering the prices.
This was my first time in The Hot Stove for a birthday celebration. Excellent service, food, comfortable seating not too close to other diners. Well appointed table linen etc. Definitely will go again. My guests expressed similar views.
Excellent food served with style and friendlieness.
Great find in an easy to get to location in Dublin. Fantastic service (and cocktails!) and delicious food. Would go again if I returned to Dublin. Thank you!
Picked this restaurant by chance and we were amazed by the food. Can't understand why it wasn't packed out, excellent restaurant for a romantic night out
Second time in Hot Stove, first was remarkable second not so much. It was below average and over priced for the quality. The boar that should have been slow cooked was a piece of meat imbedded in fat with a side that didn't necessarily improve at all the dish. Simply disappointed
The restaurant was very accommodating to our large party (and to the numerous additions that almost doubled the size of our initial booking), and the food and service were both very good. Both starters and desserts rate a special mention. I would definitely return.
Lovely staff great food wish i could afford to eat here all the time
The food was very good, though service was a bit slow. At the time, I didn't appreciate being charged in sterling without being given the option to pay in euros. This is a notorious rip-off, made even worse when they do it without asking. But the joke was on them: see the date -- brexit referendum. Before they could process the bill, the pound had plummeted against the euro. Cheers!
Excellent service, lovely ambience and decor. Pricey, but no more so than other Dublin restaurants of a similar calibre.
Booked it for my other halfs birthday. From the moment we arrived, the staff were could not do enough for us. They really striked the perfect balance between being attentive and friendly, but also leaving us to enjoy our night. The cocktails were perfect and the food divine. G&T dessert.......perfect for Summer
Great food, great service, and a short walk from our hotel, a real hidden gem. Great take on Irish food.
Found this place on TripAdvisor as I was catching up with my twin brother after a few years and we met in Dublin. I was looking for something a bit different and away from the madding crowds. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. It was just what I was looking for to celebrate our birthday in terms of food, wine and ambience. The service was excellent and I was very impressed with their outside area for us social lepers who enjoy a smoke. You have to go down the stairs and ring the bell for entry and then you are escorted to your table. It is a far bigger restaurant than I expected and it well laid out. Highly recommend this for many different occasions.
I booked the table a week in advance, knowing that there would be a high demand. I picked The Hot Stove as it was date night and I wanted the both of us to have a special treat. I find it very hard to find nice restaurants that do a variety of dishes really well. You see I like fish and he likes meat so it is very hard to find a restaurant that caters well for both. The Hot Stove not only caters for both they do it in style. The flavours, presentation and attention to detail were remarkable not to speak of the service. Our every need was attended to from the moment we entered. I couldn't recommend The Hot Stove more to anyone. I have been talking about our wonderful experience all week and I am just counting down the days until we go again...I just need to think of an excuse.
Everything is perfect. The seating is comfortable, all the décor is charming, clean, tidy. Even the toilets are above average. Don't let the neighborhood discourage you. Selections are delicious, exactly what was advertised appeared on the plate. Loved our amuse bouche. Loved the wine list, too. Great selections, not too pricey.
Our first visit was for a quick bite pre theatre, great menu and the service was wonderful. We had hake with quinoa which was perfect. It was a beautiful evening and we sat outside in their delightful courtyard. We went to order desserts and coffee and our lovely waiter kindly suggested we might be late and advised us to just get out coffees (which arrived with an exquisite macaroon .. Our only disappointment was we had to leave to go the the theatre ... Definitely will return for a longer visit
The food was very good and the service was friendly and smart. The wines were very drinkable and the four of us didn't notice the time passing. The atmosphere is conducive to lazy meals - it was a pleasant experience. I would recommend the fish (bream) which was tasty and ideal for evening dining. For a north side venue it is one of the best.
Booked the Hot Stove as a pre-theatre dinner. Booking was easy and follow up confirmation and reminder was excellent.
Great value and excellent service, we both had different meals really enjoyed the dinner, not rushed and perfect timing to get to the Gate Theatre. Will come back again.
The eating out starts with a warm welcome by the restaurant owner and the head chef herself and we definitely feel home. During our whole stay the service members were all very, very polite and their way how they treat their guests were absolutely exemplary and humorous. We really enjoyed the young guys caring for us.
The food was very delicious and can be recommended as one of the top locations to go when you are in Dublin! Everything was cooked perfectly and the serving of the food was outstanding, like art!
When we will travel to Dublin next time we definitely won't omit the hot stove!
We had a lovely meal in the Hot Stove. Staff so nice and attentive but relaxed too. Pre-theatre menu was a little restrictive in that there was only hake, venison and some other unusual meat (Guinea fowl?), I would have liked a chicken, beef, lamb, duck or veggie (more usual) choice. Bread before meal was yummy and the Sauvignon blanch from pre-theatre menu was amazing. They brought out a lovely personalised plate of little teeny sweets for my mam's birthday- all in all a lovely experience
Food wasn't very nice at all. Was removed from the bill but no other discount or option such as a bit of customer service was added. Service was reasonable and the people were nice though. Good wine.
The Hot Stove is rated 4.2 stars by 200 OpenTable diners.
