About The Idle Rocks
Voted ‘Best Restaurant’ AND ‘Best Hotel Restaurant of the Year’ in the prestigious Cornwall Life Food & Drink Awards 2017!
Head Chef Guy Owens’ culinary style is refined, imaginative cuisine with French and Asian influences. Flavour, texture and presentation all play an integral part in creating the perfect dish.
Whilst we are very serious about the sourcing and preparation of our menu, the setting is relaxed, and the hospitality is genuine and engaging.
The Restaurant is open 7 days a week, with dining on the terrace when the sun shines. We offer a welcoming and lively atmosphere, with music playing, guests chattering, cocktails being created and a great organic wine list to mull over and enjoy.

The second is slightly further in the main St Mawes car park but we do have a concierge who will happily park it for you.

The Idle Rocks Ratings and Reviews
The food was of an exceptional quality, the service and their knowledge was so in depth and made to feel at ease throughout the whole night. Guy and his kitchen are smashing it here, the front of house staff are just as incredible, Will be back soon guys thanks!x
Excellent dinner. Started with a couple of cocktails served in the lounge which had a lovely ambience to it. We chose the Goats Cheese Ravioli and the Pork Belly to start and we both had the curried cod for mains - all fabulous ! Service and the dining area was excellent . Highly recommended.
Wonderful restaurant with stunning views, attentive staff and fabulous food. Exceeded our expectations and was the highlight of our trip. You can't get better than sitting at a table outside on the veranda watching the sun setting over St Mawes harbour. We would thoroughly recommend it for a special night out.
We were looking for somewhere special for an end of holiday treat with friends ( but not children!)! And boy did we find it !! The service was utterly outstanding but at the same time not at all intrusive. They knew the dishes they were offering inside and out and were extremely friendly and courteous in their delivery without being overly friendly. The food was simply divine and full of the mist delicious flavours .... perhaps a bit on the small side if I had any criticism at all. Crab tortellini was amazing ... would have loved it as a main course! And I loved the fact they had a cheese menu too! The wine was fabulous- we treated ourselves to a bottle of camel valley brut Pinot noir .... out of this world and then enjoyed 2 bottles of picpol with our meal ... one of the best I've ever tasted . Just perfect 👌! Thank you idle rocks ... you certainly do rock ❤️
Truly exceptional cooking by Guy, Head Chef. It was seafood Saturday and we ate a whole fresh John Dory, which was cooked to perfection. The starters of crab and scallops were sophisticated yet unfussy, allowing the ingredients to shine through. The setting is perfect, with commanding views of St Mawes harbour.
Fabulous location on seafront at St Mawes, with option of eating outside or in the stylish but unfussy dining room. Staff were friendly attentive and efficient. Sunday lunch menu offers a limited, but adequate, choice. The vegetables which accompanied our roast beef were perfectly cooked and varied, while the beef was good quality and well cooked. Will try a la carts menu next time we are in Cornwall.
Lovely Sunday lunch.
I received vouchers for my birthday as my parents knew we were spending a week in Cornwall not far from St Mawes. We did a bit of research and decided to book in for Sunday lunch. The weather was lovely so we sat outside on the terrace with an aperitif while we looked sat the menu. Olives and nuts were a lovely touch as we did this. We were then taken inside to a lovely table with a fantastic view. Breads were served and the rosemary mini loaf was delicious. The staff were attentive but not intrusive, the food was of excellent quality with plenty of vegetables with super crispy roast potatoes to accompany the beef. The wine list was comprehensive although a little pricey. We then returned to the terrace to finish our drinks and make the most of the glorious view.
Definitely a Sunday lunch to remember.
We recently stayed at Idle Rocks for three nights and we had Sunday lunch there plus evening meal. The scenery is beautiful and the food was amazing. The service was perfect and we were well looked after. We also had our breakfast at this place and it was just bliss, calm and peaceful. Thank you for looking after us.
Brilliant restaurant right on the water at St Mawes. Clever design means that all tables feel as though they are in prime position. Service of very good food is friendly, yet professional. Wine list is interesting and contains choices to satisfy most palates and wallets. We enjoyed the dinner so much that we were tempted to return the very next night. We resisted but we will surely return.
