Visited the Ivy Chelsea Garden for a birthday meal with a friend. The service was good and all the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was lovely - especially the chocolate bomb - and attention to detail was great. Asked for a happy birthday message to be written on the dessert plate and they bought a separate ‘birthday’ dessert for my friend which was lovely. Atmosphere is gorgeous - the experience felt special/fancy and relaxed at the same time. The restaurant itself is beautiful. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Love the place and the food. Lovely staff just always seems understaffed so it takes a long time to order / ask for things. They need to manage staff better as they could sell so much more if staff weren’t so pressured.

Lunch time was particularly a busy time and this was the first time we went there for lunch over the weekend, usually its early breakfast when they opened. Such a big difference. We booked this 2 weeks in advance for lunch.
With my wife and our little one in tow, we were allocated the worst table available directly next to the main door and it gets very cold due to the draught. A bit silly of the hostess especially when she saw there is a little one with us, and especially when we found out there were tables available at the back which we did request and apparently they did hold for us but declined to give it to us. This confirmed again how lazy, self absorbed and rude the hostess were - our view is this lady is best placed away from direct customer facing. Anyhow, firm but courteous talking and 10 mins later, we were ushered to the back to a more pleasant environment and area.
In truth, it was the only issue we had and once we were seated, the service was excellent, food was good and ambience was ok - it was busy and noisy but not the fault of the restaurant. Its popular and understandably why.
Although we enjoyed the place and have been going there for some time, likely we would not come back for lunch as its quite busy and we think for a nice quiet meal in a great place like this, early breakfast sessions are best for the weekend if that is what you're after. if people watching and wanting to be watched is your thing and enjoy a buzzing environment, then do lunch and dinner.

The cold food or the mouse? The staff lost interest in our table when I advised that I was not drinking due to being on antibiotics. It was like we had the plague when no champagne or expensive cocktails could be sold. The ambience was nice albeit a bit cold, however when a mouse ran out into the middle of the restaurant and darted back and forth a few times I thought it best to inform the waiter. The waiter was disbelieving of our story but none the less a restaurant manager came over to tell us that it was just one of those things because the doors did not close properly and we could expect to see mice. Hmm I thought I can’t remember seeing a disclaimer on the door as I walked in or remembering when this was par for the course in a £75 per head restaurant. Being good old English though we didn’t shout to other patrons about the mouse or raise our voices in concern, evidently this is just the norm. Looking forward to our delicious main courses though with a free side of mouse droppings it was disappointing to be served the wrong dish of chicken and then be questioned are you sure you didn’t ask for this dish, being an adult I’m pretty sure I know what was ordered but it was good to be thought we may of been lying. Anyhow 10mins later we got the correct chicken dish and my shepherds pie which was correct 10mins ago and I would guess piping hot at that point, but after 10mins sitting on the side was warmish but this may have been the oily gravy that was poured over it used as a heating divice. We did not wait around to taste the delightful desserts but opted to pay and vacate, whatever you do though don’t try and pay with cash and a card as apparently this is also not the done thing. There’s me thinking money is money. Anyway unlike Micky the Mouse we won’t be returning any time soon, if ever at all.

The staff were well dressed and courteous. They paid attention to detail and made us feel very welcome from the moment we entered to the moment we left as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. The food was well prepared, presented and palatable, the atmosphere was lively yet sophisticatedly soothing. A very romantic ambience and decor with perfect sultry lighting and a breath of fresh air coming from the decadent garden. My husband was really impressed by and fully enjoyed the house beer and our wait staff was superb.

This once-trendy place has had its day. RIP The food was terrible - the tuna loin main and courgette fritti were unseasoned and bland. The market salad was overdressed and almost inedible despite the quality of the fresh ingredients. I gave them one star for the exquisite chocolate bombe dessert. Service was fine. I always thought the food was mediocre at these new see-and-be-seen Ivy chain restaurants but now I have downgraded my opinion to terrible. Spend your hard-earned money somewhere else unless you just want to bathe in their sumptuous interiors and have a drink in the bar or brunch in the garden on the weekend.

I like the Ivy Chelsea Garden but on this occasion we were disappointed as it took 75mins for our mains to arrive. Our waiter was very good & apologetic but it felt that she was not surprised about the delay and when the bill came they didn’t charge for the desert. Unfortunately this gesture did not repair the evening. I would have preferred to be given the chance to enjoy our meal and pay for the desert.

After being shown to our table by the customarily snotty front desk staff (who were being their usual arrogant and unhelpful selves with others who were waiting to be shown their tables) the service was very bad all evening. Everything was slow coming out of the kitchen; we didn't get the apperitivi zucchini fritti until our first course arrived (when it was too late and we no longer wanted them); the wine came between the first and main courses. We had to wait 40 mins for the main to actually arrive. And the zucchini fritti appeared on the bill, even though we cancelled them as they arrived too late. The Ivy Chelsea Garden has lots of grand ideas and a high opinion of itself, and doesn't live up to those airs and graces. It's better for lunch.

The Ivy Chelsea Gardens is a true representation of British luxury and glamour. The food is always tasty and the atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The only thing I have to say is that unless you have made a reservation they will be extremely disrespectful. Especially the brunette woman in the entrance. The service inside the restaurant is very kind and helpful. But I really don't approve of that lady's attitude. Overall I would recommend this place but only during weekdays.

When we arrived we were made to wait by the bar for 10 mins someone arrived after us but got a table first..the main atraction was the garden and it was closed...by the time the waitress took our order it was almost end of breakfast service...at 11.30 even though we arrived pretty much on time at 11am ...the juice and food was of a high standard poached eggs cooked perfectly
we were in a bit of a rush nad took awhile to get the bill...I.its was overall a bit disappointing..I have been inbetter Ivy branches maybe it's reflection of the Kings Rd having lost its soul?

Booked a table for 6 people of three generations for Sunday supper. All happy with their choices of food, the menu is varied and has something for everyone. Wine list varied as well. Good puddings.
Noisy and it echoes in the terrace, good people watching, lots of people using their phones (which I HATE) to record the fact that they were AT The Ivy which is annoying. People filming the room so no privacy if needed.
It was better than I had heard but not truly memorable.

Had a really fabulous evening here, having visited many of the Ivy locations this did not disappoint. Waiters were all lovely, only downside is the lady welcoming guests at the front of house was so miserable, didn’t smile or welcome us just instructed us to the bar without looking up. Luckily the rest of the Ivy team made up for it once we are at the bar!

This was my third visit this year to the Ivy Gardens and the food is excellent. However the service on this visit was extremely bad. When you order a bottle of wine at the table it is not put directly next to your table, so your waiter/waitress has to be attentive, we were left with empty glasses. We asked if we could go out to the gardens after the meal, yes we could, we took our glasses we us, not the wine, the waiter said he would bring it. We sat outside for 15 minutes until he came over and that was after reminding him. We then asked for 2 coffee's, we waited for over 30 minutes and we reminded them 4 times. When the bill came we asked for the service charge from the bill outside to removed (not from our bill inside because the food was good). They removed it and when we explained why we were offered a coffee on the house. We said yes and thanked them. We waited yet another 30 minutes for them, and then they were wrong, so we waited another 15 minutes for correct ones which then came up twice. I think this was an off day because I had not experienced that service on my previous 2 occasions and would still go back.

Was very disappointed. Normally the service is amazing, but it took 20 minutes to get served for just a drink. We had to ask two members of staff (both couldn't take our order and one was the manager!) Both said they would get our waiter, neither did and i had to get up to ask someone to finally take our order. We had to ask for everything! And when we told the manager we were very disappointed with the service, she didn't care. Very bad for such an establishment.

We arrived for or reservation and were informed they had overbooked and that our table would be about 30 min (not before the host had finished texting though).

Table actually took 45 min. They gave us some free arancini balls to apologise. Seemed ridiculous to me, so I mentioned our experience.

They then took a small amount off the bill

Went for my wife's 40th birthday. We arrived early but were told that our 9.15pm table would not be ready at the time we booked and that we should come back later. That was fine because we wanted a pre-dinner drink anyway. The bar area was packed so we decided to go elsewhere for a drink. We arrived back at 9.35pm only to be told that our table had been given away as we were late. Some raised voices followed at which point we were directed to wait inside in case anything could be done. Having told them that it was a bit disappointing to have our table given away on the night of my wife's 40th birthday, it would have been the classy thing for them to do to offer us a free drink at the bar, but that didn't happen (never mind though). To be fair, they did find us a table about 10 minutes later which was great. The starters were very good / excellent, however, the mains were extremely ordinary. My wife's steak which was meant to be medium / well was very well done and my miso covered chicken breast (not exactly technically demanding) was dry and had no miso on it. As I walked out, I realised that I had automatically paid the service charge by mistake, but by then, I was desperate to leave and I didn't want to make another scene on what was meant to be a very special occasion. I've never written a restaurant review like this before, but the Ivy really does need to be careful about its reputation.

Annoying in parts but delivers as a whole.

The 'welcome' from a non-smiling 'very important' desk-person is not a good start to any hospitality experience and various Ivy's seem to do this rather too well, which is annoying.

Once at the table all is well and the food always delivers quality and value. Service was a bit slow and we were reminded of when the table was due back when we'd been waiting for a while for someone to come and take our order.

Overall some of the staff need to calm down and remember what business they're in, but it has to be said that Mr Caring and his team have really nailed the zeitgeist for what people want.
