The Jews House Restaurant
Exquisite modern European fare with some clever Asian inspired twists. The warm bread delivered to the table set expectations high, but still course after course raised the bar.
Lamb was out of stock, given the restaurant’s dedication to expert and possibly local sourcing, only that lamb would do. No problem at all, it was substituted with one of the best beef dishes we’ve ever experienced. Complex and wholesome at the same time.
Dessert and petit fours left a lasting impression, particularly the white chocolate covered orange jelly.
An excellent place to dine in a historic part of Lincoln.
It was a special meal for my wife's birthday and I could not have picked a better restaurant. The whole occasion was perfect, we both enjoyed it very much as it was an unique experience.
We had lovely evening, great food , excellent wine list , and lovely staff. The menu is just right, all freshly cooked
Great food, in real nice interesting part of Lincoln , a real find, hope to be back soon, good value and good balanced portions, could not ask for more. Must mention the excellent service too, it takes dedication and focus to make it as good as this. Great combo of staff and food.
We were warmly welcomed by the staff, we had lovely table, the menu short, but very good, we had all three courses. It was excellent value, very tasty & excellently presented. Would recommend the restaurant to all
A very nice restaurant with interesting food and wine. The setting is welcoming.
My wife & I were in Lincoln for a few days & decided we wanted somewhere to eat that was a cut above most other restaurants & the Jews House was just the place. Its the only restaurant I've been to where the Staff were better dressed that the Clientele?
Really superb evening; this was our third visit to The Jews House and the food keeps getting better. Service was excellent.
Gavin in a superb Chef - and Jew's House is an extraordinary building
Great food, beautifully presented and excellent service.
Booked the Jews House based on reviews as this was our first visit to Lincoln and I prefer not to wander around looking for somewhere suitable on the first night in a new place. The restaurant is cosy and feels quite intimate and my husband and I chose from the a la carte menu. Portions are small, but beautifully cooked and presented, and the warm 'bag' of bread would help those with larger appetites. The sommelier is hugely knowledgeable and very willing to offer suggestions if required. My husband and I eat well and regularly visit lovely restaurants. The Jews House is probably one of the best restaurants we have eaten at and even the filter coffee at the end of the meal was unbelievably good.
Great food. Great service. Great venue. Highly recommended
Great food and ambience in a historic building at the foot of Steep Hill in Lincoln. We celebrated our wedding anniversary there and the service was excellent. Highly recommended, but it is not cheap!
A truly superb restaurant. It is within (we are told) the oldest continuously occupied house (grade I listed) in Europe. The building is, therefore, atmospheric and historic. The food (using many local ingredients) was original and excellent; served by very pleasant and attentive staff. We liked the good selection of English wines (sadly lacking in a number of other restos in Lincoln!) The whole evening (we had our table for as long as we wanted it) was unhurried, relaxing and very enjoyable. We also thought the final bill was reasonable.
Had a wonderful date night with my girlfriend great food great service a real special little find and we will be returning again!!
The food that Gavin prepares and served is outstanding and with thecservice led by Sam , they make for an awsome team.
The atmosphere is wonderful as always and for sure if your looking for a restaurant for that special occasion then this is the place to go. Thanks for a wonderful evening and we will see you soon with your Italian wines.
Amazing location and the lunch menu is excellent value
We had a delicious lunch, there are just three choices for each course so I thought my choices were brave as on paper they sounded incredibly rich - pork belly and truffle croquettes with a leek dressing followed by confit chicken leg and prawn paella with a red pepper and shellfish sauce but not at all both dishes were beautifully presented and were packed with flavour. My husband had the seasonal mushrooms and tarragon cream on toast with celeriac salad to start and like me the Paella to follow. The staff are efficient, knowledgeable and are passionate about food and wine.
We enjoyed wines by glass via the Coravin as we were driving.
Its a pity we don't live nearer!
Great food and pleasant surroundings. Stars to first floor can prove awkward especially for toilets. Disabled access almost impossible due to the many stairs.
Had booked a lovely weekend break in Lincoln. Intrigued both by the name of the restaurant, the history and the fine dining thought we'd give it a go. Extra info from your website form we wrote "birthday dinner for male guest". Irrespective that there was no acknowledgement of any kind regarding this birthday, there was no atmosphere here. Horrendous music piped out. Food ok, waitress ok, wine good. Would not recommend unless you're a larger group of people 6+ then you get the owner slathing over you whilst pouring your wine, giving you her attention but also suggesting different wines you could try with your food.
This was a treat for us - rich food, beautifully presented, efficient service, wonderful ambience, a bit pricey but very enjoyable evening.
Exquisite food, but not a great deal of it. Service annoyingly slow.
Top quality food and excellent service and a beautiful building
We are every last bit of our beautiful meal... Service was attentive without being intrusive... And we thought it was great value for the quality of the meal!! Strongly recommend
It was our first visit to the Jews House and we were most impressed. We have been looking for somewhere of this quality within easy distance from where we live and now we have found it so hopefully we will visit at least once a month.
Thank you for a most enjoyable evening.
Reserved a lunch for one as I was in the area with work. Very pleasant lunch at a reasonable price.
Good ingredients with pork and hake dishes cooked perfectly with a nice a compliment of veg. The bakewell with rhubarb ice cream wasn't as good as it sounds but still pretty decent.
Salubrious main room with Windows onto the steep hill for some people watching.
After an excellent starter, Caesar Salad, the vegetarian option, blue cheese tart with roasted beetroot, was fairly bland and very small for a main dish. Disappointing. Also, the dessert menu listed sticky toffee pudding, my favourite, but it was off the menu when we visited. The service was impeccable.
The food was tasty and fish dishes especially expertly cooked . but for me everything was rather on the salty/ creamy side. More flavour rather than just seasoning would be good. The extras such as home made breads and excellent staff service made the evening seem more special. For the price of meals I would expect some potatoes or extra vegetables on the side. We came away almost hungry. Was definitely quality over quantity!
The building and history of the restaurant are definitely worth a mention and played a part in an enjoyable evening overall.
Spending a weekend in Lincoln, then a visit to Jews House Restaurant will make your weekend special. Food good, staff helpful and friendly and we were NOT rushed, perfect
Stellar Tasting Menu and excellent wine list.
A superb and memorable experience. Would return in a heartbeat !!
This isn't the first time we have dined at Jews House, and on all occasions i have found the waiting staff including Sam, Gavin the chef and their team all very accommodating. This was a special occasion for us and once more both the menu and wines were superb ! We look at this particular restaurant as one for special occasions and Gavin and his team continue to deliver exceptional cuisine ! For sure we will be visiting once more. Thanks for a wonderful evening Sam.
The Jews House is a well known and well respected restaurant in Lincoln with a reputation to match. However the food was good if only ordinary but was not outstanding and certainly did not match the price tag. Unfortunately for us, it did not live up to the expectations and will be choosing to dine elsewhere for our special occasions. The staff were pleasant and the experience "nice" but for the cost, we were hoping for better
The food was imaginative and delicious, portions perfect and presentation exquisite in stylish surroundings. All staff were friendly and helpful, the serving staff informed, charming but unobtrusive. One of the best dining experiences we have ever had, a truly special experience.
As a vegetarian main course was a bit bland and there wasn't another choice
The overall experience at Jews house was perfect! It is certainly a resturant for special occasions and I'm so pleased we saved up to go.We were treated so well and made to feel very special. The food was exceptional, some of the best I've tasted! I was so impressed and can't wait until our next very special occasion to go. The waitress abd waiter we're very attentive and made us feel we we're the only ones in the room, what a perfect evening for our anniversary. Thank you
Great menu which delivered beautiful, tasty food reasonably priced for the artistic presentation. Good, attentive service
The menu was not extensive but adequate and interesting. The food was good. The staff very very attentive and missed nothing. Recommended.
Compact and comfortable dining room in this ancient house. Service was informative, friendly and attentive. The menu offered a well thought-out choice of dishes which were interesting and exciting to eat. We had turbot for the main course, which was perfectly cooked and particularly good. We would visit this restaurant again.
Consistently excellent in service, ambience and particularly ... food. The best restaurant in Lincoln.
Excellent.. Superb food and service. A must visit when in Lincoln, we'll definitely be going again.
Very ordinary dining room, not as advertised. Tables too close for conversation, felt uncomfortable which distracted from the good food.
