The Jolly Farmer is a historic pub located in the beautiful countryside of Cookham Dean. The pub dates back to 1788 and many of its original features are still in place. Since 1987, The Jolly Farmer has been owned by the community.
We serve a selection of traditional pub dishes and wood fired pizzas.
If you're longing for a warm fireplace during the cold months, then come and keep warm next to one of our toasty log fires. We also have a stunning beer garden, offering the best spot in Cookham for a refreshing drink or an alfresco meal when the sun is shining.
And for the children, we have our popular play area, so the whole family are welcome to have a Jolly time, even the dog.

                                                                      Large menu (only the crepes were not available this time) and yet delicious food. We’ve had three mains (one shared as a starter) very different each from the other (pizza, ravioli and sausage & mash) and each of them was very good. There is a large garden with even a playground and we could easily book a table on Saturday for Saturday evening which, given the awesome weather yesterday, was a true blessing. However, looking at other reviews, I suspect that this place was not packed with people due to slow service. Indeed for the whole evening there was just one man at the bar taking orders and serving drinks with two young people just washing dishes and serving food. They clearly have a staffing problem but they’re all friendly and we had no rush, so I’d suggest that everyone looks at this minor defect as an opportunity to find a table even at the last minute on a warm and sunny Saturday evening.

                                                                      Worst meal I’ve had in years. Under staffed, rude staff, burnt food that took nearly hour and a half to come. Table booked for 2pm and only half the menu available. Customer service was terrible and it’s not cheap!

Apologies we didn’t meet your expectations. Re menu & food times the only items missing were roast beef & crepes. Otherwise our full menu was available. All tickets sent to kitchen are kept & can confirm your order was placed at 2.29pm & bill paid at 3.27pm..under 1 hr. Agreed, pizza was partly burnt. Offered that you could eat the pizza & cook you a replacement. Refunded the cost of the pizza as requested.

                                                                      My friend and I pre-ordered two locally-sourced sirloin steaks. They were cooked superbly and served with salad, fried courgettes, fried red peppers, a mushroom sauce and fries. Best steak I’ve had in several years! Service very good and Rebellion IPA excellent. (I had the panko king prawns to start which were excellent too!) Would thoroughly recommend a visit! Asked the staff and found out the steaks come from Castleman’s Farm in Wooburn Green (near Odds Farm).

Had an amazing venison meatballs with porcini stroganoff pasta dish. Beer was well kept and the service was excellent. Wish it was my “local” as I’d be here every day!

The lady doing front of house was friendly, polite, quick and knowledgeable. I don't know how she did it as we were only one of many tables. The food was really tasty too.

                                                                      We returned to The Jolly today for some lunch after having been there for Christmas Day and I must say the food was excellent on both occasions! Unfortunately they were short on staff on Christmas Day due to staff illnesses however they coped very well considering the circumstances! We discovered that all of the Christmas meals were provided by just one chef which we couldn’t believe as the pub was full! Thank you so much for making our Christmas Day so enjoyable..:you could easily have closed and cancelled everyone’s Christmas meals as another local pub did apparently. So well done once again and thank you!

                                                                      I have never in my life been so sad this was so awful we were there 1 hour no food or drinks really bad service in the end we had to leave as was there for 2 hours and only had a starter 🙁 everyone was leaving! Nobody new what was happening really unorganised! Will never return !!!!

Cancel or try to cope. Sorry we didn’t meet your expectations. This was not our intention however it didn’t take 2 hrs to receive your starters & your mains were on their way as you were leaving. We do accept and appreciate that the service, due to staff shortages, was not acceptable and it is certainly not what we wanted to offer to our customers.

                                                                      Really enjoyed our visit to this lovely country pub. Had a great lunch and the garden is great. Inside is very cosy too. At the moment they are only serving food & drink outside but this was a lovely sunny day and the garden has spacious shady tables. We booked for 5.45 with our grandchildren and didn’t get food until 6.50. Also children meals came out 10 mns after ours. After I’d gone to see where they were. Luckily, your fantastic play area kept them entertained.
