This is a really sub par experience for two reasons: Staff training and food quality:
Our waiter when I enquired about a Californian Chardonnay looked on the RED list (they don't have any...none). No one explained how the credit card wine dispenser system worked, even when I made clear that I was there to sample wines. (I discovered it near the end of the meal.) Many of the wines are not great examples of grape or region.
Chewy squid. Feeble brioche. All pretty forgettable.
Overall a really poor experience. Save your money. Go elsewhere.
good place for a nice Friday dinner, good service.
Kensington Wine rooms was a great discovery. We had the chateau Brian's with wine and it was excellent. Highly recommended.
Third time eating here and this was the best. Duck is not easy to prepare yet mine was perfectly cooked, moist, little fat and perfectly seasoned. Wine choices are broad and reasonably priced. I highly recommend this for those interested in a lovely food and wine experience. Great neighborhood place too. We plan to go back later this week during our stay in London.
Lovely place, great wine and really nice staff. The sea trout main was delicious. I went here for some birthday drinks and food with the girls and will definitely return!
Loved the wine dispensers. Excellent range of red, white and rosé. Highly recommended.
Fantastic selection of wines and the tapas are delicious
A good place for a very enjoyable Sunday brunch with cheese and dessert wine to boot
On a busy evening we walked in looking for dinner. Warm & friendly greeting in bar before going through to the restaurant in the back. Starters of crab & foie gras both fantastic, I matched the foie with a lovely Sauternes and the crab with an equally good English sparkling wine. Iberico pork & Fillet steak to follow perfectly cooked & delicious. I will be returning time & time again!
We visited the restaurant as a group of 4 for a special occasion dinner. Upon arrival we have requested the booth however were told those were specifically requested in advance by other guests. The two booths remained empty until an hour later when our desserts arrived and when the guests finally got there, they have requested not to be seated in the booth and were promptly sat at the other table (the restaurant remained pretty empty for the duration of our stay). We were not introduced to the wines on offer and steak, even though requested medium, was well done and dry. The portions were small and no vegetables to accompany the meat on offer. Hugely overpriced and disappointing experience, especially as we are familiar with the Fulham branch, which cannot be faulted and is worth recommending.
The food was a little disappointing, but the fun experience with the many different wines you could taste and a fair price, made the experience good.
It can be recommended for a fun night out with colleagues and friends.
Price is not reasonable but unique system for serving wine bring memorial time to us.
Another excellent meal here. Really lovely food, always paired with interesting and unusual wines
My Colleague and I ordered two specials which were £10 for steak and chips. What turned up at our table was two "specials of the day - Fish pie" We told the waiter that the order was wrong and they were quite rude about it. We were told that we should of asked for steak specifically - which we did. Considering it wasn't our mistake it was theirs I think they could of been more polite.
Great food and wine... Perfect for a birthday lunch
A nice evening nice food nice service go and enjoy it yourself
Go there quiet often and normally it's very good. However, this time the service was not good and the food only average.
I discovered this restaurant several years ago and coming to London august 2015 With a Group of friends I wanted to give them a Nice experience. The Kensington Wine Room lived up to my expectations and my frieds were overjoyed :-)
Visited the Wine Rooms for brunch on Sunday. Had previously been here for drinks in the evening. Very good selection of brunch favourites with a twist. Excellent service. And the cherry on top is the prices which you will find hard to beat anywhere else in the neighbourhood. A new Sunday spot.
I have visited here several times before and always found the serving staff to be very proactive and knowledgable about the wines. Not so this time- there was little to no advice, no suggestions and all in all a very lacklustre approach to their jobs. Given the whole point of this place is the. " great wines by the glass " concept the lack of interest, help and advice was a great disappointment.
Food in the tapas section was, as ever, very good.
fantastic service, fantastic food, fantastic place. Will definitely be coming back for more.
We especially loved loading the card after our meal and using the self service wine machines.
A really lovely night was had
Nice to have many choices for wine by glass as I prefer to try different wine in a dinner, especially for eating out with no-alcoholic drinkers.
I can also enjoy differen wine depends on the meal I ordered.
Food is also nice & tasty.
Amazing wine selection, the staff were very friendly and isn't pricey. Highly recommend it!
The seabass carpaccio, chargrilled calamari and halibut were all delicious with a lovely bottle of Sancerre. The service was friendly and the staff made some great recommendations. Also located a short walk from Notting Hill tube station. The blueberry crème brulee was to die for if you have room for dessert!
The Kensington Wine Rooms is a delightful setting that has a good feel and atmosphere about it. Good selection of wine accompanied by a knowledgeable sommelier. We tried the tapas menu which was good but sadly the waitress got the order wrong (she didn't write anything down) which slightly dampened our appetites.
The food was great as usual, and wine selection is wide as you can expect.
We had to wait for a very long time for our food as they were completely overwhelmed in the kitchen. The waitress apologised and offered nibbles while we were waiting.
All in the title really, this place is great, very good wine on offer, the food was amazing, service great, very friendly and warm atmosphere. I'll definitely go back and recommend it to more people.
Normal tapas and good vine but incredible prices
Food good. Service excellent. Loved the wine list. Would recommend.
This is a really good idea to propose the wine matching with the dish you are served.
Nice ambience and attentive, friendly service. The wine list has many high points (love the fact there is an orange wines section!) and prices seem fair. We really enjoyed our Hatzidakis Assrytico (from Santorini) and a divine Pouilly-Fuisse, fairly priced at £47.
A shame about the food. The menu reads well, but everything was stodgy, lacking in elegance or freshness and unattractively presented. My sea-trout looked like it had been reheated, and the gnocchi was pretty much a write-off. The Smoked haddock hash was however tasty.
Helpful staffs, fun atmosphere, and good selection of wines by the glass as well as sampling. Perfect place to hang out with friends after work. Wish there was a brief discretion of each wine at the dispenser.
We love the ambiance here and it is a great idea to buy a card and sample different wines.
Food is good and so is their wine selection. Only thing is that their charcuterie platter is really not worth £12 it should be way lower priced apart from that had a nice experience.
Service was very scatty. Maybe the waitress was new.
Even though I had booked a table, they had 'locals' on our table who did not leave till 45 minutes later. We ordered two glasses of champagne which were off and only on asking a second waiter did this get changed.
We were then shown to the table which had not been wiped down - spilt drink on table and banquettes. We had to ask them to clean it.
On a positive though, once all this was sorted we had great service from a different waiter. The food was excellent and the wine recommendation delicious.
We will definitely return but they should perhaps train their new staff for a bit longer before letting them loose on customers.
I've been to Kensington Wine rooms a couple of times before and found the food and service quite good. So I took my out of town guest there last weekend. We were there around 7ish on a Tuesday. Whilst the starters were good and the service attentive, the mains were all wrong. The venison was over cooked. What a shame. The waiter seemed oblivious when I showed him how overdone the venison was. The manager much more helpful and they recooked it and offered nibbles while I waited. To my horror, when after a trip to the wine selection and my my new (delicious) venison arrived, I asked my companion why she hadn't eaten her risotto -- She invited me to try and it was very, very under cooked. She was too embarassed to say anything so, unfortunately the restaurant was unable to make this right. The staff was good, the manager in particular.
A warm, cosy space with a really great, welcoming set of staff selling wine off one of the best (and certainly biggest) wines by the glass lists I've ever seen. The food is as good as I can remember it now too, with inspiration for dishes coming from continental Europe. A place to keep coming back too.
Good selection of wines but a little bit overpriced :( I loved the ambiance and service was very good. The down side for me was bread, it could have been a way better especially if we try to replicate French style and perhaps should be for free, at least as entre.
I would definitely come back and would recommend to other on special occasions.
Absolutely AMAZING Sea Bass!! The service was excellent, and the staff were extremely accommodating of my nut allergy, providing options and alternatives that exceeded expectations.
I've been raving about this dining experience for ages and highly recommend it to the foodies of Central London
Had a lovely evening here. Service was excellent and the bar and restaurant ambience is really good. The food was good, the soft shell crab I had was overpowered by the coating, but the veggie options and cote de Beouf were delicious. Great to have so many wines on tap. Will definitely be returning.
