The Lamb & Lion
We were able to have a lovely drink from the well kept bar before being shown to a very cosy table for two, by an open log fire. We chose nibbles for starters, warm bread with delicious flavoured butters and deep fried courgette amazing flavours. I had the steak and Ale pie with large chips and a creamed vegetable side, well cooked and beautifully presented. My partner had Chilli beef and he was very impressed with the flavours, very spicy. Highly recommended and will definitely need to return to sample the dessert menu.
Food was very good. Staff was good and attentive. Enjoyed the evening. Recommend this restaurant
Lovely meal and evening, but they didn’t have either of our first choice of red and white wine. Food was good though.
So glad we booked here for New Year. Perfect relaxing atmosphere, gorgeous food and excellent service from John. Would highly recommend.
Always fantastic food and service!
Good food and service. Needed bigger portions of Sunday roast. It needed more meat!
Fantastic service and the food is superb recommend to anyone
The meal was OK but not as good as we expected. The chef seems to like to put crumbs on everything. My hake dish didn't seem to have any chorizo in it.
I booked for a Sunday lunch during our York visit. The pub is very easy to find, very near the Minster. We had a cosy room with a roaring fire. The staff were very friendly and our roast was enormous and very tasty. I recommend the huge Yorkshire puds !
We came here for a Sunday lunch on our wedding anniversary. Food was stunning and setting was cosy.
Wonderful place. Staff are amazing and the food is superb. Thank You
Food, service and everything was perfect a try gem in the heart of a wonderful city.
Lovely room where we had our meal, service was wonderful. Food really good would differently go again.
Warm welcome from the staff, good food and plenty of it at a reasonable price. Recommended
Great quality of food!
Food not good ! staff fantastic !
Absolutely fabulous pub food, great service and would highly recommend visiting this place when in York.. it’s more like a restaurant than a pub Nd the table service is amazing
The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. That should be the theme of this restaurant. We arrived and presented ourselves to the bartender as there was no indication of a host or hostess. He mumbled something about going down a hall and turning left. So we did, but were confronted with a rabbit's warren of hallways leading every which way but to a dining room. Staff walked by and ignored us. Finally a woman who must have been the manager instructed us to check in with the bartender. Back we go. He was still clueless, until she arrived after us, and had to show him how to operate his computer. They eventually figured out that we did indeed have a reservation, and we were lead to a room with one other couple in it.
At 7pm on a Sunday, they were out of roasts, both beef and pork. A group of 5 people were seated after us and upon hearing that, got up and left after the server left the room. My husband and I both ended up having a bowl of bland risotto.
I would never return here or advise anyone to do so. No reservations necessary, no one goes there and they can't serve you when you do.
Oh, we also never got our points for "dining" there and don't expect to. They're clueless.
Very very very slow service
We were a party of 6 and we were seated in our own space. Food was lovely and service was excellent.
Great Sunday dinner. Vegetarian friends in group well taken care of.
Excellent Sunday lunch
Fab food and service, just very very tiny portion (we had lamb and pork). However, that said kids portions were very good
Ordered two signature dishes: Lamb Shank and Pork Belly, Soup of the day, and a must-eat sticky toffee pudding.
After reading the menu on this website we were disappointed to find out that the menu had changed. Therefore had to choose something totally different from what we booked it for and the prices were more expensive.
Booked a table for lunch and am relieved I did as no walk ins were being taken. The food was fantastic and the childrens’ menu Was second to none, proper fish & chips!!! Myself and 2 other adults had the roast dinner, one beef, one lamb and one chicken. All plates were cleared! staff were all very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. Perfect in all respects, definitely will return when next in York.
We wasn't very impressed with the food very pub like food , staff were very good just the food let it down
Arrived very close to last orders for food but they were very accommodating for us. The drink and food were delicious, nice menu and reasonably priced (although bottles of wine were very pricey £35) but was happy to pay it as it was a special occasion. The staff were all great and attentive without being overbearing and I liked the decor and warmth of the place. Highly recommended, we would return.
A very relaxed atmosphere, a good menu choice, and the food is simply delicious. The roast beef was tasty and well cooked (I was asked if I preferred my meat well done or rarer) which was a nice touch. The Yorkshire pudding was definitely homemade, the gravy homemade, and the vegetables were served separately and again, cooked perfectly.
The pudding was superb!
The manager was charismatic without being too much, and took a genuine interest in whether we were enjoying our lamb & Lion visit.
Booked in advance for sunday lunch when on a weekend break in york as had passed by and thought it looked nice. Unfortunately it was raining so had to sit inside but nice room and great food, had sunday roast beef and banana sundae, the normal midweek menu on board also looked great. Friendly service as well.
Lovely dinning room, great pub food and service was really friendly. Will definitely eat here again.
Aaaaaaaaaaa it was ok like but the overall quality was outwork he's by the final price dnicj wig suit tasters fit the a tail office
We had a Sunday roast which unfortunately wasn't great. The serving size was quite small and the potatoes were terrible, as if they had been reheated a few too many times. The outdoor seating area would be great if your were just having drinks. Maybe the rest of the menu is great but sadly not the roast, and for 14.95 I expected more.
Was recommended this pub from the guest house I was staying in. Food was amazing good value and the staff couldn't do enough to help. I was only in York 3 nights but ate there twice.
We enjoyed a lovely bar supper at the Lamb and Lion . my husband had the lamb hot pot which was sensational and I had the steak and ale pie which was massive and delicious
My husband had some of the lovely range of guest ales and \I\ had a very nice rioja
very enjoyable evening
A most enjoyable evening , great food , fabulous service and good location in York.
A pleasant cosy room for dining separate from the bar. Good choices on the menu all of which were well prepared, full of flavour and imaginatively presented. Desserts were particularly impressive. Very friendly staff.
This is a very quaint little pub with lovely quirky decor. On the night we went it was full to bursting so good job we had booked. The waiting staff were very friendly and enthusiastic and the food was amazing. My husband had the soup to start and it was very, very good. We both had steak for main course, my rump steak was one of the best I've had in ages as was his rib-eye. It was huge and although he ate all of his I admit I left some of the chips - I did eat all my onion rings, possibly the best I've ever had. We were both so full we didn't have dessert!!!!!
A word of warning if you order the Clifford's Tower pie, it is huge.
We had great expectations for the Lamb & Lion, the bar itself is a favourite of ours serving excellent quality beers so we thought we would take the plunge & sound out the restaurant as well. My wife had the Duck & I had the steak pie, the pie was fabulous, it stayed unfeasibly hot in the 25mins it took me to eat it, the veg was lovely & there were lashings of gravy, however my wife's duck was not so impressive, it was well presented but her enjoyment was hampered by the duck not being very hot & a wee bit dry we did mention it to the manager who assured us it was cooked to order but my wife felt that this was not the case. By way of compensation she was given a free dessert. The atmosphere was ok, but to be honest the room was way to bright - you need to soften the atmosphere as it didn't feel as intimate as we would have hoped.
Would we go to eat there again? I doubt it & whilst my wife's meal was not up to par it certainly won't stop us using the fabulous bar
Great fresh food. The setting is lovely with an atmosphere to match. Lovely greeting. We will be back for sure.
