It was cold, no background music, rushed, steak and ale pie was completely dry inside and the dauphinois potatoes were bland and looked like they had been hanging around in a fridge for days, not the usual here but have seen the place decline over the past 18 months

Great location at Bootham Bar. The pub is a lot larger than it looks at first glance. Welcoming staff throughout and the food was quite decent, if a little overpriced for a pub, but hey it’s Covid times! No chips available which made a couple of meals less likely to choose - how do you run out of chips, go buy some potatoes and cut them up!

Great place to eat, good food and drink, the staff are outstanding, will go again.

Difficult to be too judgemental coming straight out of lockdown 2.0. Staff were extremely attentive and very friendly.

Ridiculously limited vegetarian options on the menu and mash potato was a not smooth.

After being closed for a month, you might also expect a once over that all fixtures and fittings were in place and working correctly.

We were the only people in the restaurant so no atmosphere at all , due to lockdown so that’s fine . The food was just okay . The pie was good but the chips tasted as if they had been finished in too cool fat , had a funny taste . Staff were okay . The lady who served had a face mask on but wasn’t wearing it over the nose . Asked if we wanted more gravy but at this point we didn’t know as we hadn’t started to eat . Didn’t come back and ask again .
We have eaten in lamb and Lion many times in the past and always enjoyed very much .

Enjoyable environment in this old english hotel that is close to the centre of York. Service polite and friendly and food nicely cooked, arriving hot and well proportioned. Plenty of room between tables.

Very good Covid system in place. Temperature and track and trace details taken. Service was very good, polite and quick. We sat outside in the garden which was nice. The food was brought quickly and was all hot and tasty. Toilets were clean and hand gel provided.

Meal was very nice, iust not a lot of it, we ordered steak pie which in the past has been lovely and came in a large pot, this time it was half the size, also we had a over zealous waiter who was hovering over us all the time, it felt like we were being rushed, he was a nice guy but just too attentive, we like to relax enjoy the meal and surroundings and enjoy being together, sorry we just don't like being rushed.

Booked for dining after it was recommended to us but the food was very poor .. we had the Sunday beef roast . The beef was dripping with blood asked if we could have no blood and we got the plate back ,the beef had been zapped in microwave so was so tough couldn't cut it and the same veg had been left on plate so was cold when we received it back still had salt crystals on .Yorkshire pub was so hard couldn't cut. We left the meal ..we told the lady serving and all they said was sorry and the bill ...no one came to see us and we had to pay the full amount ...very unhappy with this place and will not recommend...disgrace

Birthday lunch with my wife and son, and his partner. Staff very friendly and efficient as ever, lovely ambience, and great food.

No issues with the food, but we had a table for 8.30pm (the only one we could get) and there weren’t many other diners in there so was quite quiet. Had to change a glass as it was dirty.
The one way system was good and fully respected Covid19 guidelines so a plus on that score.

Really enjoyed eating here the food was excellent as well as the service. The staff were very attentive nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend

Food was ok, not much on the menu to choose from!!
Social distancing in the restaurant is appalling we were virtually sitting on top of the next tables, disgusting.
Also it was so dark in the restaurant had a job to see the food.
Didn’t finish what was in the dish and left drinks, found it a very odd place

We have eaten here on a number of occasions and always had a enjoyable experience.
We attended on Sunday last for Sunday Lunch.
Everything regarding the staff and service was as good as we have come to expect.
However we were disappointed in the food we had served, the quality and quantity not to the standard we have enjoyed in the past.

Disappointed as on your website said you were still going to eat out scheme and yet we paid full price. We only booked for the offer. The food was very average.

Lovely relaxed atmosphere with polite and helpful staff. Also, the food is exceptionally good value for money!
