Good pub food , we were lateSunday evening so a few things on the menu unavailable which is to be expected .
Very friendly efficient staff ,lovely atmosphere on a balmy evening in the garden by the wall with fairy lights etc
Highly recommend !!
Really wanted to like it here however the service was really slow, wrong drink given. No menus provided until we asked after 25 minutes of sitting down waiting. Then told half the things on the menu weren’t available including Sunday roast on a Sunday so ended up leaving and going for dinner somewhere else. General ambience is great but really let down by slow and unhelpful service.
Lovely food, friendly attentive service. Good atmosphere.
Good dinner with a quiet atmosphere to enjoy. Staff were lovely and super helpful
Visited on a very very busy Sunday lunch service in the beer garden . My 3rd visit . Staff were stretched so service was relatively slow but we were not in a rush . Food not as good as as previous visits . My friend had the Sunday lunch - glad I didn’t beef looked dry and very well done . . We’ll go again but maybe when it’s a bit quieter
The menu was not the same as when I had looked and booked online. Choice was very limited and some items not available. My husband asked if it was possible to have a slice of bread and butter with his fish and chips and they did accommodate with a ciabatta roll which had been warmed up at a cost when the bill came of £3.50!!! You expect to pay a little more for items but we do not like to be ripped off! The actual meal was cooked perfectly and couldn’t fault the waitress. Would I return …probably not!
Enjoyable meal. Friendly staff and good service.
Friendly staff. Really nice hidden beer garden. Food was delicious. Service was fantastic will definitely visit again in the future.
A fantastic place for both lunch and dinner…we did both. Fabulous staff and excellent food and drinks!
The chef doesn’t season adequately, food was a bit bland.
Really good service, great garden area for the evening and heaters took off the chill. Very good tasty food at a good price, enjoyed the experience and would recommend this pub/eatery.
The service was great. Staff were lovely and welcoming. The outdoor area was so nice, I can see why people like coming here. Unfortunately the food wasn’t very good at all. The roast was bland and boring. Two small pieces of beef, a Yorkshire pudding, a few tiny rubbery potatoes, tasteless steamed broccoli and cauliflower all on top of a small bit of gravy. A very disappointing roast. The burger was dry and overcooked. Lovely staff and setting but the food really wasn’t any good at all.
Very poor Sunday Roast lunch. My beef was sinewy and rubbery. Left most of it. Roast potatoes were actually parmentier cubes and anaemic. Watery gravy and flat Yorkshire pudding. Not at all the quality we have experienced there before and so disappointed. Pointed it out to the waitress but no apology or reduction on the bill. Very embarrassed for our guests!
This is the best roast dinner I have had in York so far. The food was just the right amount.
Great food , service is friendly but the staff need better training in customer relations, not very proactive. Tables not cleared & staff standing around chatting with each other.
Lovely place to eat and food was great but could do with more vegan options ☺️
Cosy dining room, good food and wine, friendly and efficient service. Well situated by Bootham Gate, large sunny garden under the city wall.
Lovely views, lovely food and good service, recommend for a few drinks and a meal on a nice summers day.
We sat outside, lovely courtyard garden. Great setting. Good food, great beer and nice wine. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would recommend.
A wonderful beer garden right next to the walls leading off Boothsm Bar. The food is tasty, the atmosphere relaxing. A perfect place for Sunday lunch in York!
One of our meals, the burger, was good. The other was completely tasteless - pasta with what seemed like canned tomatoes and absolutely nothing else for flavour or texture. The dessert, kirsch cherry and amoretti cheesecake had no sign of kirsch or amoretti but looked very nice. No member of staff asked how our meals were or why so much was left uneaten, which seemed to show that they had a good idea themselves. Caught a glimpse of the kitchen on way to toilet, and it appeared to be quite chaotic. May be we got them on a bad evening. But we couldn't return just in case this is normal. Sorry, we don't like to give negative reviews, but a decent establishment will want to know in order to improve.
Lovely meal, change of chef so online menu was not the same as venues menu.
So no Steak unfortunately.
But lovely haddock and home cooked fries instead.
A great place to eat and drink in York. Old world charm, great food and very friendly service. We had lunch here and it did not disappoint. The quality of the food was outstanding - warm, hearty and tasted great. Highly recommended.
Lovely pub near the York Minister with nice food and atmosphere
Lovely staff very friendly and efficient food was really nice would recommend
Bit disappointed the online menu didn't match the menu when we got inside especially as the menu inside was much smaller. Probably would have chosen to eat somewhere else if I realised.
Lovely room good atmosphere staff very helpful all drinks and meal service excellent
6.30pm, the waitress advised us that 2 items on the menu had sold out, which wasn’t a problem. We ordered, 3 Shepherds Pies and 1 Fish & Chips. The waitress came back and said they only had 2 Shepherds Pies available so could we choose another dish bearing in mind there were only 5 main dishes to choose from and 2 had sold out. Anyway we ordered another fish & chips but then tables around us were told they had run out of Fish & Chips. Basically all that was left was a pasta dish and a burger and it was only 7pm, felt sorry for the customers after us.
The waitress was lovely, the food average
This was the second visit to Lamb and Lion in a couple of weeks and the food was excellent both times
Staff very helpful and attentive
Really great atmosphere, service was great.
Even thought the kitchen was backed up a little we didnt have to wait long. Food has good.
If the marscapone cheesecake on offer order three! (Cos it’s amazing!)
Great staff but food was not good. Sunday lunch was terrible. Yorkshire puds were pancakes...I’d be embarrassed to serve them and the roast beef was almost inedible. Such a shame as staff and ambience amazing...🙄🙁
Everything about the Lamb & Lion is excellent. Best pub in York. Great food, drinks and service every time.
Excellent honest good with a twist, excellent courtyard seeing available, all staff were very friendly and especially to my son on his 18th birthday, landlord insisted on providing his first pint and they mustered a birthday desert. Very kind people and a decent beer as well
Well what can say FANTASTIC STAFF. Great food, great service, great place. You all front and back staff are doing a fantastic job.👏👏👏
A wonderful pub meal, service was fantastic and everyone was really friendly towards my father in law who had just lost his wife and was a little out of sorts. Food was great.
The food was excellent. Tables a bit crowded but it is a small listed building.
Slow, inattentive staff that had clearly not been properly trained.
30 mins to get a drink (people around us had waited longer…)
Sunday lunch like your gran used to make. By which I mean your gran that couldn’t cook… over boiled veggies with no flavour, overcooked beef and lamb, watery gravy…
Shame as this used to do one of the best Sunday lunches in York centre.
Standards seem to have dropped since the Fat Badger takeover, which is a shame.
It wasn’t even that busy, so can’t even use the Races or Summer tourism as an excuse.
Hope that they are not just catering to the Tourist trade, who come once and are then gone….
Nice place but incredibly poor service sadly . Wasn’t given the right menus so didn’t know about the Sunday Roast. Waited 50 mins for food with no explanation for the long wait. Also got drinks order wrong. Shame as it looks a nice pub .
