The Laughing Gravy
Relaxed and inviting, we offer an incredible menu of fresh, seasonal dishes with a well-chosen wine list that reflects our attention to detail.
Occupying the ground floor of an original foundry building, the restaurant, which is in walking distance from both the Old and Young Vic, seats up to 50 diners and has a buzzy bar.
The ambience was fancy and the place looked great, but the food did not meet the expectations. After waiting for a more than reasonable amount of time, my friend’s burger was overcooked while the bacon was raw; my poached egged were barely cooked and the chips were not at all crispy, not to say that they were cold too.
Before ordering, the waitress was extremely insistent and tried to have us ordering something different than what we already wanted.
Recommended by my son who comes often. Loved it and the food was delicious
A beautiful restaurant, comfortable & beautifully decorated with lovely pretty and warm lighting. I could not complain about he food at all, every bit was delicious. The service was perfect and very friendly. My rum old fashioned was not as tasty as the one at Leicester Square Kitchen or The Coal Shed but it certainly did not tarnish our experience. It did get very loud once full but we still love it. We have been many times and will continue to visit as it seems to be maintaining its very high standards. Thanks for a lovely evening!
Excelelnt meal, service and wonderful ambiance. Looking forward already to our next visit
Quiet lunch, good service with really tasty food
Have been before and was very good again. Good food, reasonable priced.
A medium-size cozy restaurant, very nice at night with the candles and the dim lights. Very good service and the food is just excellent. Don't be put back by the somewhat unconvential recipes and trust the chef, you will not regret it.
Will definetly come back.
Not cheap, but not ridiculously pricey either. Food was excellent and service friendly. Nice smallish restaurant and was busy (which I like).
This was our second visit to the The Laughing Gravy in the last fortnight, and we loved it, as a restaurant it offers excellent food, service and ambience, and we are looking forward to returning again!
A neighborhood gem!
Staff are friendly and provide a great service. The restaurant it’s self it relaxed with a lovely ambience with fantastic food. We didn’t feel rushed at any stage and really enjoyed our meal and lovely cocktails
The food was indulgent but healthy too - so there were options for everyone. Really delicious fresh ingredients and the staff were all really friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be back!
I love this place, the food is delicious, the atmostphere and staff are relaxed and friendly. We went for a working lunch and I would definitely go back.
Second time here and very good again, roast lamb slightly fatty and would have liked another potato otherwise all very good!
My second visit for Sunday Lunch and I plan to return. Based in Suffolk we don't often have an opportunity to visit and so it has always been special. Lovely food and excellent service. I hope to explore opportunities for an evening visit. A slight, although constructive I hope, feedback would be a review of the cheese board.
The staff were lovely and you felt looked after. The venue is quaint and the decor is simple but effective. The quality of the food was great but £20 for a Sunday roast is a little steep and the portion size was meagre. I had to order chips afterwards to fill myself up - my friend had to ask for more meat. The staff did remedy it but don’t go in if you’re really hungry.
Amazing people and made us feel like we’re at home.
I visited this restaurant booked by friends and immediately booked to take another group of friends a week later. Great food, friendly service.
Food is scrumptious and service excellent - just a bit noisy in the main restaurant - fine by the bar.
Amazing food, great atmosphere and friendly service. The best Sunday roast in London.
Everything about our visit to The Laughing Gravy was fabulous! On a cold, wet London evening it was just the cheerful place to be! The food was so delicious, especially the gluten free options and the service was so friendly! Will definitely recommend to friends and family and will come again ourselves! A truly great find!
Over a year ago, my boyfriend and I happened to stumble upon the Laughing Gravy by accident - and we're so glad that we did. After our recent return for our 1-year anniversary, we were pleased that the charm and ambiance of the restaurant had not disappeared, nor the attentiveness and excellent service by the host and wait staff. We both appreciated the change in menu, as it gave us a chance to try something new and it meant seasonal food was being prepared, something I find is very important to me when dining. I especially enjoyed the Braised Rabbit Pappardelle Ragout which was flavourful and surprisingly light. My boyfriend tried the Casareccia pasta with cheddar pesto which was gorgeous. We will certainly not wait another year to come back as we thoroughly enjoyed the experience once again!
The atmosphere was very relaxing, warm and welcoming. The colours and light were soft and matching well. The food - from presentation to taste - was excellent. Real sweet and savoury journey. Service was very good.
Overall great spot for a date or a dinner with friends or family. Would definitely return back soon!
Being French we are aware that we are quite difficult in terms of restaurant. The laughing gravy is really a very good restaurant. The food is good and the service is more than adequate. In addition to finding us a place a little further back in the restaurant as we requested on the site Opentable, the staff offered us two glasses of champagne on the occasion of the marriage proposal that took place in the afternoon, thank you again it was really very nice of them! We will be back during our next trip to London.
Quirky and friendly, the staff are attentive and interested in helping you enjoy your evening. The food is excellent.
Fabulous food, unusual original combinations
Great for pre theatre
Prompt friendly service, great food and drinks. A pre-theatre must
Beautiful roast beef! Slightly on the pricier side but lovely for a treat! Really enjoyed it and would reccomend to anyone wanting a delicious Sunday lunch.
Excellent food, fantastic wine list. staff friendly.
Lovely food, nice ambience, great service. Every time we vist Londen, we at least pass by once during our visit.
Met up with friends to catch up and really enjoyed it. Food etc was great, just a bit noisy but we are all getting on so all a bit deaf!
the laughing Gravy got us in at short notice, I only booked in the morning and we were lucky to get in. lovely atmosphere and the staff were attentive and polite. We had a roast dinner which was amazing but I would liked the beef to be a bit more done because it makes it difficult to cut. It was still lovely though, so next time I will ask for that. That would make it absolutely perfect for me.
thank you for a nice experience and we will definitely be coming back.
Very tasty food, great friendly service. Well worth a visit.
I always like the Laughing Gravy - food is good and it works well for a pre Old Vic early dinner and drink. Only feedback is - the first thing out of the staff's mouth shouldnt be "You only have your table for two hours"-
This is a wonderful restaurant with innovative dishes served up with beautiful presentation. Who would have thought to serve up scotch eggs made from scallops, shrimp and crayfish!! And to serve them on a plate that was as great on the eyes as on the palate. Everything was delicious and yet reasonably priced. Highly recommended.
This in my fourth (or fifth?) visit to the Laughing Gravy in the last three years and it is always a pleasure to walk in the door.
As I walk in, I am always struck by the ambiance and the immediate feeling of being comfortable. The staff are always welcoming and all the tables are well positioned. I have no preference about particular seats.
There is always an interesting choice of food and wine and I will not make any comment about particular dishes because I have sampled an interesting selection since the summer months of 2016.
My only concern with my last visit in November 2019 was that prices appeared to have increased noticeably. That said, all the food and wine were of a fine quality. The various guests whom I have taken there in the last three years have always enjoyed themselves and been very complimentary of the establishment.
My compliments to you.
I would defintiely have a Sunday lunch here again. It was loud enough for children not to be an issue but quiet enough to talk. The menu is not that children freindly but they were accomodating and honestly I was not that concerned. I would perhaps go with adults only next time as it is more that sort of restaurant.
Best roast I’ve had in London! Great value and friendly service, would highly recommend
The Gravy is always delicious. I plan to come every tine I’m in London. Delicious food! I had the Venison Wellington and it was delicious. Highly recommend!
Lovely food with really good options for a non-meat eater. Very helpful staff with personality. Appreciated the query regarding our need to depart in time for a show and managing our reservation accordingly.
