The Laughing Gravy
Relaxed and inviting, we offer an incredible menu of fresh, seasonal dishes with a well-chosen wine list that reflects our attention to detail.
Occupying the ground floor of an original foundry building, the restaurant, which is in walking distance from both the Old and Young Vic, seats up to 50 diners and has a buzzy bar.
This restaurant was found by putting into the net “ good places for lunch near Waterloo station”. The reviews were very good and it definitely lived up to them. We were a party of 4 and all had different main courses and deserts and they were all very tasty and very different. We will tell our friends about it.
One of the reviews said it was a secret place in south London and that is true
Great food.....fish mains superb.
Good service.....attentive, but not overly so.
Soave went perfectly.
Unbelievable cherry bourbon sour! Loved the food and ambience!
Fantastic cocktails. Scrumptious food. Delightful wait staff.
Excellent meal at the Gravy on Saturday evening - delicious sea bream with mussels, very good burger and a really good white chocolate ice cream with coffee liqueur. Staff are happy to answer questions about the food, too !
Having been urged to prebook our meals because we were a party of 8, and being a Friday night the kitchen was going to be very busy, I was disappointed with the several mistakes made with our order. As a result, one of our party didn’t get their main course until the other 7 had finished theirs. Only two of our party had ordered puddings, both of which had been forgotten. Also, the menu online was different to the meals that were available on the night. It’s too pricey to be so slapdash.
Exceptional food-try the scotch egg and venison Wellington for a real treat. Very good service also. I’d highly recommend
A good choice in Central London. Delicious cocktails, food and wine. Will be back to work our way through the menu!
Starter was amazing, but the venison Wellington main was slightly less successful. Could have been steak, however the sauce & supporting veg was good. (Very light on mash potato.)
Absolutely wonderful, the server was attentive, friendly, accommodating and pleasant and the food was incredible! Delicious and beautiful. The drink menu was immense and they have some wonderful wines. Fantastic
Nice surroundings, friendly and efficient staff. The food was excellent. Wanted to show our son a nice place to eat in his new surroundings as he moved in nearby.
Lovely restaurant and decor, Delicious meal, friendly efficient staff, thank you
Top quality food as good as any you'll find in more famous places. It is tasty, presented beautifully and great value. Don't be put off by its unfashionable location.
Food was fantastic and Anna’s customer service was great!
Amazing food and the best waitress ever!!!!!
Love this place
Great night with great food and service. Lovely atmosphere and not too loud. Thanks
We booked online and met friends at the restaurant for a Friday night dinner. Service was very good as was ambience and the food. We had a most enjoyable evening and have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant
Excellent pre theatre dinner. Food as always, very good and well presented. Highly recommended.
Our waiter had zero emotion and almost seemed as if he would have preferred to have been anywhere else but at the restaurant. In other words he had no chat even when asked a question on menu. Food was excellent. Bit pricey esp the starters.
Great food, great service. Really enjoyed the experience.
Place is really nice, nice food (big portions) and the service was excellent. No complaints.
The food was really good and the service and even better!
Wonderful delicious food, which looks amazing. Great chilled atmosphere. Venison Wellington especially recommended.
A great find. Amazing food presentation with taste and menu to match.
One of the waiter gave us a not nice look when he heard my friend was not eating
An outstanding restaurant which offers an imaginative menu of the highest order. Great value
Great service and food. Would happily go again and recommend to anyone.
Fantastic experience overall. Food not only looked beautiful but was delicious. Chilled atmosphere and very friendly staff.
Myself and partner took 4 friends at very short notice on Friday evening
having been let down by another restaurant. We called and spoke to Jason (the manager) who was extremely accomodating and went above and beyond to make sure our visit was great!! The staff were extremely friendly and the food was delicious and I will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and colleagues - thanks again - Paul
Second time here and still very good. Prices of starters and sweet course a little high. 12.5% service charge added to the bill (optional!) Do the staff get it? Is it used to pay their wages? I would definitely recommend and return myself but would seek clarification on the service charge.
The venison Wellington was outstanding and the rabbit pappardella was also delicious.
Always great. Keep it up!
In London for work and wanted a good, casual spot for dinner alone. The bar area is really cozy, but they don't serve food. The ambiance in the dining room was exactly what I needed after a long day! I suggest a reservation, but I made mine same day. Service was great! Nice selection of wines and cocktails, and food is on point. The Scotch Egg was perfectly done, the cauliflower Mac and cheese was so rich and creamy! The venison Wellington was fantastic - really rich but cooked exactly right, tender, and the truffle potatoes served with it really made the dish. I couldn't finish, and didn't even have room for dessert! All in with a glass of wine it was 57£. Already recommended to a friend!
A must eat restaurant
We are from Las Vegas and love food and wine. Talked with the owner who is danstaic
5 star service and excellent food. Definitely recommend this gem of a restaurant. The welcome was warm and friendly and is the perfect place for friends/family dinner as well as couples we’ll be back!
Efficient and discreet service, tasty and beautifully presented food and quiet enough that we could have a conversation. Excellent value.
Wooden seating uncomfortable for any length of time.
Superb food and atmosphere, with delightful and helpful staff.
Always great food and service at The Laughing Gravy, the roasts are particularly delicious .
We were a little disappointed at the dessert menu this visit though as they were very busy looking with overly complicated combinations. Nothing to spoil our lunch as we were very full and satisfied anyway.
Good food short menu
This is a place to be
